Stuff marked in <<>> is not openly known

Name: Yasashii Tanaka
Gender: Male
Age: 54
Nationality: Kagetorian
Personality: Curt, strict, blunt, realistic
Physical Description/Pic: Like this, except with short cropped hair and no beard. Image
2 points if you recognize the picture. If you do, the rest will make more sense
Occupation: Warden of Keiji Kyōsei Shisetsu
Attire: Often seen wearing a grey overcoat, white shirt, grey pants, and a tie. Never seen without his necklace <<with a key on the end of it>>.
Brief Bio: Tanaka is Kagetorian by birth, and lived in one of the poorer districts of Edo. Criminal activity, despite the best efforts of the Kempeitai, was still rampant. Watching the streets of the capital, Tanaka grew up, going to the best schools and getting a full scholarship to the Imperial University, where he majored in psychology.

After leaving the university, he joined the KPT to bring back order to the streets. During his career, he was known to have sympathies with the convicts from the poor areas of town, and due to his avid support of Locke's Tabula Rasa, constantly voiced his support for rehabilitation programs. As such, Kagetora began to provide centers for criminals who had committed minor crimes.

<<Also during this time, Tanaka joined the KPT's obscure Unit 731. There, he conducted research into psychological effects of different drugs, at first hoping to find a cure to common mental ailments like egomania.>>

About 10 years ago, Tanaka opened the Keiji Kyōsei Shisetsu, or Criminal Correctional Facility, with his own funds and those raised from supporters. A few months later, the KKS was used by the KPT to house the criminally insane, who were too important in Kagetorian society to simply execute. Rumors have begun circulating of the Warden's sadism and cruel treatment of his patients.

Bad Kage, Bad! no biscuit. *Shudder* thats a evil, Evil man! And now I will be very wary of him.

Warning possibly hard link to handle

We re 60 plus years, and a generation or two, removed - and the words sanitize, time flattens, makes less real, less important, less daunting and the horror ebbs. But it shouldn't - for if we forget, if we don't learn from and let ourselves acknowlefge - well there lies the road to it happening again.

Most of you out there are in your 20's, maybe your 30's and have never heard the horror in your grandfathers voices as they speak ( or in sad actuality mostly Don't speak ) of what they lived through, saw with their own eyes, or heard directly from those it happened to.

We mourn and rage over our troops dead and wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan and the civilian casualities of the actions - and justly howl over the evil at Abu Graib -

but we also need to remember the horrors of WWII and be thankful that things like the Rape of Nanking have NOT been committed in our time by our hands - though I must say that the 'ethical' cleansing' that has occured in the balkans and else where falls under the pervue of attrocity that should never be allowed to happen.

NANKING MASSACRE (December, 1937)

Known historically as the 'Rape of Nanking'. In 1937 (the real start of World War II) the Chinese capital had a population of just over one million, including over 100,000 refugees. On December 13, the city fell to the invading Japanese troops. For the next six weeks the soldiers indulged in an orgy of indiscriminate killing, rape and looting. They shot at everyone on sight, whether out on the streets or peeking out of windows. The streets were soon littered with corpses, on one street a survivor counted 500 bodies. Girls as young as twelve, and women of all ages were raped by gangs of 15 or 20 soldiers, crazed by alcohol, who roamed the town in search of women. At the Jingling Women's University, students were carted away in trucks to work in Japanese army brothels. Over a thousand men were rounded up and marched to the banks of the Yangtze river where they were lined up and gunned to death to give practice in machine-gun traversing fire. Thousands of captured Chinese soldiers, many wounded, were simililary murdered. In the following six weeks, the Nanking Red Cross units alone, buried around 43,000 bodies. About 20,000 women and girls had been raped, most were then murdered. Department stores, shops, churches and houses were set on fire while drunken soldiers indulged in wholesale looting and bayoneting of Chinese civilians for sport. It is estimated that over 150,000 Chinese civilians and soldiers were killed in this, the most infamous atrocity committed by the Japanese army. In charge of the troops during this time was General Iwane Matsui. At the Tokyo War Crimes Trial, Matsui was found guilty of a war crime unrelated to Nanking and sentenced to death. He was hanged in 1948. After the war, China tried about 800 persons for war crimes including those responsible for the Nanking andShanghai massacres. The death penalty was given to 149 defendants. (It is known that one of the commanders during the atrocity was Prince Asaka, an uncle of Emperor Hirohito, but none of the Emperor's family was ever tried for war crimes).

I had hoped someone would notice that. But from the outside perspective he is indeed a horrible person despite his cover. However, he truly believed/s he was/is doing good (both the character and the person). There are always 2 sides to a story, 2 cultural viewpoints, and you have to take the good with the bad.

The experiments/atrocities/pillaging/whatever you want to call the work done by the IJA, have to be seen from both the victims' and criminals' perspective, and their respective cultures. You can't form an unbiased opinion on a subject until you do.

(This is not an endorsement of what the Japanese Army did, just a statement of facts.)

Oh I know Kage - but what he did was Evil - I understand the rational behind such but I still can and will call Evil when I see it.

evil done in the name of Good is still evil
and good done in the name of Evil is still good.

Editing to add:

Erm, I thought the only thing built/ allowed on the island was the prison - Kovasckitz has posted that he's living / has a house on the island - am I misunderstanding what all is on the island

Good and evil are subjective terms, but I'll respect your opinion with just one thing to add. I don't believe that there is good and evil, only different perspectives. (A good example is Napoleon, hated internationally, but beloved by the French people)

@Kova: That's a big no no. The only buildings on the island are the compound, a lighthouse, and a rotting wooden boathouse (with no boat). And a helipad, but that's not much of a building.

I demand you edit that post.

My next IC post will be tomorrow afternoon (PST), regardless of whether everyone else has posted. Really that only means Acacia and Goias

Thank you and I respect yours

I'll very much agree that good and evil Can be subjective - but I also believe that they can be absolutes, that Evil and Good do exist ( my personal religion is very Wiccan influenced but also includes much from many other religions ( but nothing specifically from the Big Three. Parents tried to raise me Roman Catholic and fortunately it "'didn't take'" - I got away from it as soon as possible and in all honesty it was only surface pseudo skin any way )

But each person's path and understandings are their own. I refuse to proselytize.

But for in game, me having that data will help me view that character through the proper lens. Thank you for the additional layers that make a character 'real'

have to add - I don't know if your example is a good one, because many basically good men have been hated y man, and many basically bad men had been loved by man. Napoleon was not, in my eyes, an intrinsically evil man. Now you look at Tomas de Torquemada, Mengele, Pol Pot, Mao and any number of todays 'serial killers' and I say that they are intriniscally evil.

But this is just my opinion.

Okay, I am going to jump in despite not having any idea what I'm doing.

(actually, since this is exactly what I do all the time with RPs, does that mean that I know that I don't know what I'm doing?)

I'm only saying this because, unlike other RPs, I was stumped for a bit as to how to actually start.

I thought the paranthesis was kind of clear that it was mostly self-depreciating humour with a bit of truth in it. :)

Apologies then, I'm just not used to the O_O/o_O/O_o type smileys, so I interpret them as being a kind of shock/suprise/WTF reaction. :)

Well there is no house on the island your character can be interested in / buying - so why don't you redo your post to have your character sitting quitely in the copter - say in a shadowed corner farthest from the door -and like most of us- not interact with the others -- you can make the bulk of the post your character's observations of the other people and his thoughts about them.

That would give us ( players not characters ) good insight in to him, making him more real for us.

Your post doesn't have to be a long one either - three well done paragraphs would handle his first post I think.

When I post a quick little post like that, it usually means either I didn't make something clear enough, forgot to write something, or it was misread. In any case, if I post just a little snippet like that, go ahead and tack on another post.
