BREAKING: Chancellor Friedrich Schäfer, Vice Chancellor Jan Müller, President of the State Council Terran Schmidt, Vice President of the State Council Jan Mayr and new cabinet all announce resignation
The mystery of Daredi government officials disappearing has now been solved. The Chancellor’s new cabinet, State Council leadership and many lawmakers have all been hiding in the private mansion of Chancellor Friedrich Schäfer. The territory of the mansion has been barricaded and guarded by vast private security. The new Chancellor’s access to this kind of money raises a whole lot of new questions and will might lead to corruption charges. But that is not the news of the hour. The news of the hour is that the short-lived new government of Daredland has announced its resignation. This announcement has been given in a surprise press conference which Chancellor Friedrich Schäfer asked for and announced his home as the location. An agreement was reached with protest leaders that nobody but the journalists would be given access to the barricaded mansion. Journalists from top news companies and independent journalists had arrived at the press conference. It was no so much a question and answer session but an opportunity for journalists to broadcast a historic moment to the public and leave no questions. Chancellor Friedrich Schäfer announced his decision in front of a row of microphones and multiple cameras.
[Spoken in German]: “You have to be fair and give me credit that I did not use the military or the police to end all this chaos. I did not shed blood and allowed our people to exercise their freedom of speech as I promised. It could have gone a lot of worse so it should be recognized that I had averted a civil war. And believe me that a civil war was definitely ahead of us. And this civil war would have still remained a reality today and tomorrow and a week from now and a month from now. A year from now even. But in order for that not to happen I will now take this step and hopefully save many with it. I hereby announce my resignation as the Chancellor of the Daredi Confederacy. I announce my resignation from the government and politics of Daredland for the time being. I might return some day but not now.”
The announcement by now ex-Chancellor Friedrich Schäfer was followed by Vice Chancellor Jan Müller, President of the State Council Terran Schmidt and Vice President of the State Council Jan Mayr pretty much giving the same speech. They announced their own resignation from their posts but not their withdrawal from politics like ex-Chancellor Friedrich Schäfer. They still intend to run in the next national elections within their parties. After their resignation the cabinet picks of ex-Chancellor Friedrich Schäfer confirmed that they would still try to advance in Daredi politics within their own parties. But their current bids in ministerial positions will not be possible for approval because of Schäfer’s resignation as Chancellor.
The press conference with the resignation announcements were broadcast on large screens in Freihat and other cities around the Daredi Confederacy. It is no surprise that loud cheers was the reaction. The remainder of the State Council will now have to call up an emergency session together and appoint interim officials. Because many members of the State Council have fled Freihat it is unknown if the Daredi government will have enough people to fill the empty seats. Members of the Western Corentian Nationalists of Daredland (WCND) party have invited back the lawmakers that fled Freihat during protests out of fear of public anger. These lawmakers are needed to fill the empty seats. Some have already responded to the invitation and announced that they would return if security was guaranteed to them.
