BREAKING: Chancellor Friedrich Schäfer submits resolution to the State Council to withdraw from agreements with SOWEFTA and MDAA
Chancellor Friedrich Schäfer has submitted a controversial but expected law proposal to the State Council of the Daredi Confederacy. The law proposal calls for Daredland to withdraw from existing agreements with SOWEFTA and MDAA which Daredland has achieved during the tenure of ex-Chancellor Calvin Aigner. The agreements include: a free trade agreement with SOWEFTA, the MDAA–Daredland Action Plan, Daredland‘s observer status in MDAA and a partnership agreement between Daredland and MDAA (security cooperation and humanitarianism in world crises areas).
With his submission Chancellor Friedrich Schäfer has overstepped his powers as Chancellor and intervened in the work of lawmakers and the current President of the State Council Terran Schmidt. But neither the President of the State Council nor the lawmakers appear to mind this too much and voice sympathies to the Chancellor’s law proposal. This venture outside the powers of the office could be called out as unconstitutional but the new government already has a list of constitution violations in their disposal. The State Constitutional Court cannot call out the new government for their actions because the serving members and judges had been dismissed. The new government said it would appoint new people but the State Council does not appear to rush with that process. Other legislative priorities are in order.
Anti-government protest in Freihat, Daredland.
The Chancellor’s law proposal related to SOWEFTA and MDAA was expected by many ever since the government changes in the Daredi Confederacy, Schäfer’s succession to Chancellor and the Legion of Germanic Daredland (LGD) party members claiming top offices. There is even a slight surprise that withdrawing from agreements with SOWEFTA and MDAA was not called for on the first day. The pan-Germanic orientation of the new government is a reality and this appears to be the moment for which Friedrich Schäfer and the LGD party were aiming for. Their climb upwards on the political career latter has now given the LGD the possibility of achieving pan-Germanic policies for Daredland.
Members of the State Council from the Party for Central Approach (PCA) have suggested not to rush with this law and instead work on appointing the new State Constitutional Court. But President of the State Council Terran Schmidt said that the SOWEFTA/MDAA vote will be held first. The success of leaving agreements with SOWEFTA and MDAA is expected to lead to a new pro-Eastern Corentian foreign policy and a pursuit to join the Englean Imperial Commonwealth. The Englean Kaiserreich has already issued an invitation for the Daredi Confederacy to join the Englean Imperial Commonwealth after Englean officials congratulated the new Daredi government.
Early reactions of Daredi citizens are highly negative. Protest demonstrations in major cities were already gathering after the new government took over. But the proposal to turn away from SOWEFTA and MDAA is currently inspiring a new wave of anti-government demonstrations. The gathering protesters back a pro-Western Corentian orientation for Daredland and are angry at the new government for exploiting constitutional flaws which helped them achieve power. The police around the nation has been ordered to be ready for containment.
