Muslim Dirkhiz Soldiers begin showing support for an Islamic Dirkhizistan

Dirkhiz Soldiers posting picture showing support for a Islamic Dirkhizistan

The Dirkhiz Ministry of Defense has noticed that the Dirkhiz Federal Army's muslims are starting to show support for a Islamic ruled Dirkhizistan. Some soldiers started posting pictures on Sunatwitter showing support and waving Islamic Dirkhizistan Flags. Some even were advocating for a coup d'etat of the Dirkhiz Federation and replacing it. There are even rumors going through the military of generals planning one. The Military has said they will find any possible coup planning by any generals as soon as possible, this is concerning to the Dirkhiz Government, Dirkhiz non-muslims and reform muslims, and the military, especially the nuclear missile base commanders.

Parliament Encourages Dirkhizstan to Respect Freedom of Religion, Deals with Taoist States Still in Works, Asks Bohin to Seek Peace with Moleston

Saint Claresburg Gazette

There has been growing concern that Dirkhizstan is heading towards becoming an Islamic State. Dirkhizstani soldiers have been seen proclaiming their support of an islamic state and rumors of a coup have even been heard. Parliament would like to remind Dirkhizstan that the government represents everyone. Creating an islamic state is simply not fair to those who are not Muslim. Unless a free and fair election is held and non-Muslims are not discriminated against legally, Rezua will not support Dirkhizstan's transformation into an islamic state. Parliament hopes that the Dirkhizstani government can avoid this issue without an outbreak of violence. In addition, Rezua will be accepting non-Muslim refugees.

After almost a week of waiting, Rezuan officials have yet to hear if the Taoist States have accept the jointly made deal between Rezua and the Taoist States. Currently, Tao has halted its invasions and has met with Rezuan officials to make a set of terms. This deal will remove Tao's EMPs, stop Taoist invasions, and will grant Rengo autonomy again. In return, Rezua shall sell non-military goods to Tao at a discounted priced. Rezua will also buy military equipment from the Taoist states. Parliament urges Taoist officials to accept the deal to ensure peace.

Once again, issues with Moleston and the Bohin resulted in violence. These most recent are squarely the fault of the Bohin for launching unprovoked attacks. Parliament and Empress Ymira have told Molenstoni leaders that Rezua will stand with Moleston and help in anyway requested (within reason) should the Bohin take a hostile action again. Rezua also says it will help Molestoni officials resist foreign nations who wish to help Moleston but do not get permission from Molestoni officials. The reason is, Rezua wants to ensure Moleston feels in control and able to defend its people. The Rezuan Empire also wishes to limit the bloodshed, should it come to that. Bohin has once again been asked to meet with Molestoni officials.

(Shot of the eclipse)

Half of the nation stops for over an hour to watch solar eclipse
By: Barry Harris

UPDATED: 3 Pm August 21th

For just under 2 hours the nation looked to the sky to watch as our Moon crossed in front of the Sun during a once in a lifetime experience. The path of this year's eclipse brought it over 4 major cities in Aznazia and within a day's driving distance for half of the nation. On the mid Pohaki Islands, thousands made their way to the coastal beaches for the first peak of the eclipse. From the islands it traveled a few hundred miles to the outer Andevica and South Suavio islands and then over the Capital of Pacifica City. Members of the Government including the Chancellor donned scarce protective glasses to watch the eclipse at around 11:00 Am Western time before heading back to vote on legislature related to Sunrisia. At 11:34 Central time, the former capital of Endeavor witnessed a near total eclipse for two minutes. A few minutes later at 1:05 Pm Eastern time the most populous city of Crawford witnessed a 100% total eclipse with over 5 million people pouring into the streets and front yards to get a look at the point of totality. In less urban areas citizens noted that fireflies, bats and morning birds became active believing that it was evening or dawn. Listed below is the level of obscuration for the top 7 major cities across the nation.

Cities in Aznazia ranked by Obscuration %
 • Crawford: 100%
 • Griswold: 93%
 • Endeavor: 92%
 • Pacifica City: 89%
 • Santa Elva: 87%
 • Phillipsburg: 81%

Aznazia raises tariffs on Sunrisia and reduces number of diplomats with Sunrisia
By: Nathan Boreman

UPDATED: 4 Pm August 21th

After observing the partial solar eclipse, the legislative and executive branches responded to the recent tariffs against Dogmana by Sunrisia. The National Assembly approved the bill passed by the senate last week that will reduce the number of foreign exchange programs as well as cut the number of diplomats by half between the two nations. The final 70% approval came to a shock to some analysts who predicted the vote to be lower than the 46 to 31 vote (67% approval) by the Senate. The Senate and National Assembly have both agreed to maintain Counter-Terrorist cooperation with Sunrisia. Meanwhile the Chancellor signed an executive order that raised tariffs on Sunrisian made products to match those that Sunrisia had placed on Dogmana. This comes after the Chancellor privately spoke to the President of Oblaren and Queen of Rhodevus before voting on the matter. "I have spoken with other leaders of the Dogmana continent to gauge their nations responses to Sunrisia's decision. We are not raising tariffs in retaliation, but are doing so to ensure equal treatment of goods flowing between our countries". It is rumored that Oblaren and Rhodevus will also raise tariffs on Sunrisian goods in order to protect their markets.

Rhodeve Diplomats Arrive Home Safely

A few days ago, The Bohin removed all Rhodeve diplomats from the country, along with those with Rhodeve, Rezuan, Molenstoni and Sunrisian citizenship. The 33 diplomatic staff in the Rhodeve embassy in the Bohi capital along with over 100 individuals from the four countries crossed through the Molenstoni-Bohi border and brought to Molenston City, the capitol of Molenston. After brief interviews and discussions with Molenstoni officials, everyone was sent back home to their respective nations of origin.

The Rhodeve diplomats were first brought to the Ile du Fleurs where they could speak and be debriefed on the various situations surrounding the Bohin and for the authorities to hear their interpretations of the events of the past few weeks.

"Only a short amount of time was given to all of us to leave The Bohin. but, I am pleased to say that nobody was injured or harmed by the Bohi people or military. They were true to their word, and for that at least, I can express my gratitude." Said Lead Ambassador to the Bohin, James McKinon.

The Trident gets Hot, Hot and Hotter this year / Michelle Ahina stays quiet on Aznazian tariff increase on Sunrisia and viceversa / Third Runway at Aygon?

Image

Today temperatures in Celstead, the capital city of The Trident has hit 42 degrees celsius, closing many public beaches. The weather is blamed on the high pressure circulating around the region which has trapped hot and dry air in The Trident, an area renowned for its hot baking dry seasons, though this is a new meaning. Seven United meteorologist company SunalayanMetOffice has gave an amber weather warning for Celstead, Glanamaday and Rosciona while issuing a red weather warning for Nenahay and Atheneray, in these two cities temperatures could hit fourty seven degrees today in the heart of the dust bowl state. This unusual turn of weather has also caused major issues on the rivers originating from the Baitrlidican mountains. The dry season has been so hot this year that all the hardened snow on the region has melted quickly, leaving the rivers with nothing left to flow on, there is no doubt this will have a hugely adverse effect on the already struggling west Tridecian farmers whom are already living on the tusk of too hot and too dry to grow crops or grazing animals. While all this happens in The Trident, Montedoran and western regions are feeling cool and cloudy, though no sign of rain yet.

Michelle Ahina today has been quiet on the beef between Aznazia and Sunrisia. The two nations have been duelling eachother, and today Aznazia will increase tariffs and lower diplomatic presence in Sunrisia. Michelle Ahina recently made a new trade deal with Aznazia, and as such, she refuses to comment much on the situation. Instead, she said "It is quite disappointing what is happening, though I can't comment much." Instead, she was outlining plans to upgrade Aygon International Airport to have three runways, instead of the two. The Department of Infrastructure said that the plan won't be damaging to nearby environmental life as the region is quite "desolate anyway" though environmental critics have called the plan disastrous, costly and damaging to the local wildlife that live in the perfectly untouched desolation. The plan, if gone ahead will harbour borrowed money though the cost of the project has not been disclosed yet. Aygon International was originally built with one runway in 1983, upgraded to two runways and three terminals in 2004, the airport has been very busy and is reaching its "maximum limit" says the chief of the airports timetable, Deivn Horikez, the reason for this is the airport is in a perfect position to reach all of Corentia, from Dogmana to Aygon to Sunrisia, its in a peak position. The plan is in the early stages of development and will go through more public consultations later this year and the next year to come.

Capsland's Growing Population Problem

Image
A busy street in downtown Burton

Capsland currently faces the worst housing crisis since The War. It's expected that the population will grow by about a percentage this year, up drastically from the 0.8% increase last year. Capsland will gain roughly 860,000 people this coming year and some experts say that the current housing budget is not enough to accommodate the increases in population leading to a possible poverty crisis.

Currently the government has pledged to build and finish 600,000 new houses this year and every year until the next parliament. However, the government has promised this before and fallen short every time. Currently the practical increases in housing numbers are roughly 230,000 a year - far smaller than the planned number of houses.

The housing crisis, combined with the growth in population, is starting to seriously strain both the health and welfare budget as well as putting pressure on public and private housing firms to build more houses.

"There is just not enough resources or money available for the houses to be built and made affordable for the new generation. We can build the houses, yeah, but that's not enough. We need to funnel resources into them in order to make them more affordable and practical for first time buyers." one Rubicon contractor mentioned.

The average cost for a house in downtown Burton is about ₡827,000. This is far larger than the available budgets for the younger generation looking to buy their first house. Contrast this with a house in Calindra which is about ₡340,000, and the price tag becomes a lot more affordable; why is this?

Burton's housing project is currently funded by the private sector in order to accommodate the densely packed and urbanised landscape. However Calindra's housing is operated by the State of Calindra and funded using public funds. This way, the cost of a house is shared with the tenants and the tax payer. The government has said there is simply not enough money for housing to be transferred to the public sector despite the current ₡1.7bn surplus in the budget.

The housing crisis continues to grow and young people are petitioning the government to do something about it. Perhaps this will alter the results of the upcoming Senate elections.

Government And Opposition Clash Over Tariff Proposal Against Sunrisia

Image

While campaigning ahead of September general election, PM Matthew Praeterit‘s ruling party with a government majority has found itself in a fierce conflict with its rival opposition coalition. This time the basis for the conflict was not their domestic or foreign policy differences voiced in their campaigns. The conservative government of Vesvai along with campaigning still has time to rule the country and its recent foreign and economic policy proposition has sparked some fires. The fires have only worsened the situation in what has already been a tense election race, the most intense in years. The government of Vesvai has proposed joining the current so-called “tariff war” between Dogmana and Sunrisia in support of Vesvai’s allies in the rest of Dogmana. Such move would be meant to show unity and solidarity. The opposition has condemned the proposition as self-sabotaging and wrong in every other way. The fight has been raging on ever since and has found its place in Vesvai’s election.

The so-called “tariff war” between Sunrisia and Dogmanan countries is one of the current news on the international radar. To distance itself economically from northern neighbors, Sunrisia has imposed higher tariffs on imports from Dogmanan states, while boosting trade with other countries. By doing this Sunrisian officials say that they want for Dogmana to play a smaller role in their market, while other more special trading partners would benefit from their enlarged role in the Sunrisian market. The countries that the larger tariffs specifically targeted were: Aznazia, Oblaren and Rhodevus. The tariffs were presented as being against Dogmana, but one country was missing from the equation. That country was Vesvai. It is because Vesvai makes it to the list of Sunrisia’s more special trading partners mentioned earlier.

Vesvai and Sunrisia have a trade treaty called the Sunrisia–Vesvai Trade Promotion Agreement. It is a treaty that has boosted Vesvai–Sunrisia trade. Tariffs had been dropping annually, both states had begun playing larger roles in each other’s markets and economic growth for both is a promised result. The government opposed signing the deal, calling it a Sunrisian incursion into the Rhodeve Commonwealth market and the common markets of other trade alliances that Vesvai is part of. The opposition supported the deal because it would lower Vesvai’s dependence on Dogmanan and other Commonwealth countries. Vesvai would also establish a multi-vector foreign policy, according to the opposition. In the end, the opposition won, because the government gave into the pressure and signed the deal. The opposition hailed it as a huge victory.

In a recent campaign rally, PM Matthew Praeterit said: “If I may, I’d like to take some time to discuss global affairs, in fact affairs in our region. I was contacted recently by our colleagues in Aznazia and they had stated the obvious which I want to tell publicly. I think it is something we should really listen into. Even though Sunrisia exceptionally excluded Vesvai from its tariff increase list, it has still aimed at the rest of our brethren, our allies in ROVAA, WeSTO, Rhodeve Commonwealth. You can’t make a “friendly” gesture towards Vesvai and a hostile one towards Dogmana, because we are all in this together. And also, let us not forget that after ROVAA held military drills, the MDAA bloc immediately held drills of their own, in fact, dangerously close to Vesvai. It was obviously a response to ROVAA training, almost as if our regional Dogmanan defense alliance was threatening Corentians. What we wanted was to train together with our new military allies after joining the organization and to see if we can work together as a team to defend Dogmana. Finally we wanted to feel as a family member. There is obvious hostility coming from the south and it affects all of Dogmana. MDAA drills were aimed against 100% of Dogmana and increased tariffs are aimed against 99%, but it is still against Dogmana as a whole. Sunrisia just wants Vesvai to let down its guard. We stand united with our family in ROVAA, WeSTO and the Rhodeve Commonwealth. An attack on them of any sort, will be considered an attack on Vesvai. There can be no rifts made between us. We opposed a trade deal with Sunrisia from the start and we were foolish to give into the pressure of the national traitors in the opposition by signing it. It is a leash that Sunrisia wants to put on Vesvai’s neck. Other Dogmanan countries had decided to retaliate with their own increased tariffs and Vesvai is going to follow suit. Unfortunately, because of this trade deal that the traitorous opposition has dragged Vesvai into, we cannot do it as easily as Aznazia or Rhodevus. At the moment, our economy is linked with Sunrisia’s, so imposing tariffs on our own or suspending the treaty entirely will hurt Vesvai. Also, we would be violating our signatory obligations and smearing our national image. So, we are going to gather in a parliamentary session tomorrow and vote to send Vesvai’s representatives to Sunrisia or invite Sunrisian representatives to Vesvai to renegotiate the tariff part. Or, maybe we will after all be able to agree on the agreement’s suspension or withdrawing from the treaty entirely. Sure, some recovery will be needed, but it will be worth it.”

In the campaign rally of the opposition coalition, the loudest voices fired back: “You know, we have always remained respectful and did not insult anybody, but if the Prime Minister allows himself to call us “national traitors”, then we are allowed to call their government puppet, pro-colonial, collaborationist sell-outs sitting in Aznazian and Rhodeve pockets. People, who are instruments of Vesvai’s external control. We are not rejoicing over Sunrisia firing tariffs at other Dogmanans. We are not going to laugh at other’s misfortunes, but that does not mean that in order to make them feel better we have to make ourselves misfortunate. We can help others to get better, not make ourselves worse so others could feel better. It makes no sense. We understand what solidarity is, but this is not one of those cases. As patriots, we should be happy that Vesvai was excluded from the tariff increase. If anyone’s a “national traitor” it’s our current government run by PM Matthew Praeterit. They want Vesvai to shoot itself in the foot and jump into a sinking boat. The Prime Minister literally admitted to having received an order from Aznazians to harm Vesvai with our own hands. He said that we are going to be considering tariffs at a parliamentary session. That is going to be the end of it. Once we jump off the bridge along with others, it will be our own fault entirely. Other Dogmanans will have their hands clean, because Vesvai will have done it itself with free will. This trade deal was the best foreign and economic policy achievement in Vesvai in years. Vesvai has received the best of both worlds and has become a bridge between two worlds. I understand that the Prime Minister didn’t say that we had to get rid of the deal entirely. He talked about changing parts of it, but messing with this agreement will ruin it. The deal is in its perfect condition. The rest of Dogmanan countries are getting squeezed out of Sunrisia’s market and Sunrisian officials have said that there will be more room in their market for closer trading partners. That includes us. More room will open for us and the government wants to sabotage this. The reality is that Dogmanan countries among ourselves are still competitors in trade like all other countries in the world. Vesvai competes with Aznazia, Rhodevus and Oblaren. Obstacles put in front of Aznazia, Rhodevus and Oblaren, but not in front of us, gives us a great advantage in the Sunrisian market. It’s a fact, we are not rejoicing over their misfortune. It also lowers our dependence on certain countries and organizations. And now the government wants to destroy all this. I understand why Aznazians might be interested in this, but it’s not going to be them who will ruin things for Vesvai. Not directly. It is going to be our sell-out government that will sabotage Vesvai’s success, while we are ahead.”

Public polling has yet to be disclosed on whom the voters in Vesvai sympathize with.

Konetyan Elections

The Konetyan Election process is in full swing now, with the State Department declining to impose any sort of diplomatic sanctions against the Union for their assassination of Candidate Petrov. The Secretary of State did, though, release a statement this morning as the government finally prepared to respond. She would go on to talk about how fragile peace is in Azovskaya, and the risk diplomatic sanctions would create.

“Azovskaya is at peace, a rocky and uneasy peace. But Peace, regardless of the stability of its foundation, is something that we must strive for. We should work towards maintaining long lasting stability in Azovskaya and in turn, most of Northern Ophion. These are good people, people who are wary and knowledgeable on the perils of war. Most of us in the Western World have little knowledge of the hardships a people endure in a war among their own homes and on their own streets. It would be wrong and irresponsible of us to take such measures as would compromise the peace that everyone in Azovskaya deserves. Despite this, we cannot let this assassination go without ridicule. Without reprimand. We are shocked and disturbed that Azovskayan Union Troops would cross into sovereign Konetyan Territory and assassinate a potential leader of a nation. They have done this with the hopes of destabilizing Konetya and undermining the integrity of the elections. They seek to destroy what fragile peace we have built, and to arouse a violent and powerful response from the Pantorran Military. But a say resoundingly that no action, short of an invasion of Konetya, will arouse such a response. We will not give up peace. The death of candidate Petrov has not, and will not be forgotten. We have taken measures to ensure the protection of all Konetyan Presidential Candidates, with each remaining candidate now under the protection of their own Company of military personnel. They will travel in military escorts and under heavily armed guard. To the Union I say this. If you dare attack these troops, then that is an attack on Pantorrum. And you may get the response you’re looking for.”

The Secretary of State has said many times that the President is interested in building a firmer peace in Konetya after elections take place. The plan was for State Department Diplomats to attempt and negotiate an official Treaty with the Union. We do not know for certain whether these plans are still in action, or if the assassination has changed the administrations agenda. One thing is clear, though. The President is already getting tired of the Union.

Deal with Belantica Reached, Capsland next?

Last week the President negotiated a rather well received trade agreement with the Belantican government, opening their market to Pantorran Vehicle manufacturers and Fruit Farmers. The deal is expected to help generate thousands of jobs in Pantorrum with the expansion of the automotive and fruit sectors into yet another major global economy. The Deal won’t officially take effect until Congress approves, and if they do this will be the first commerce agreements between Pantorrum and Belantica.

Already the President has negotiated two rather popular trade agreements with major international powers. Which raises the question, who’s next? Well, you might not be surprised to hear that the President is now on his way to Capsland, one of Pantorrum’s closest trade partners. He won’t be there to discuss trade, though. He will be there to negotiate a defense agreement between Pantorrum and the major VU member. As usual, the State Department refused to share any preconceived notions as to what the deal might contain, saying little more than other than the President is going there with open ears and an open mind.

PNS Resolute Deployed near Bohin

Yesterday afternoon, the newly finished Zumwalt Destroyer PNS Resolute set sail for international waters 200 miles from Bohin. The vessel is there to observe any military actions taken by the increasingly hostile government of Bohin, and to project Pantorran Naval Power in the region. The warship, upon completing its Sea trials last week, is now one of the largest and most advanced Destroyer’s in the entire world. The stealth vessel has advanced communication and weapons systems, and appears as little more than a Fishing Boat on Radar even though the immense ship is 600 feet long.

The Destroyer, should it be switched into a combat role, would be able to deliver over 70 Tomahawk Cruise Missiles into the heart of Bohin, striking major targets and softening the countries defenses in preparation for an allied invasion. The hypothetical scenario is unlikely, per the Secretary of Defense, who said the deployment is just to keep watch and deter any threats against Pantorrum itself. The Vice President re-iterated the same thing just an hour ago, clearly stating that we do not want to get involved in the war in Bohin unless circumstances demand us to.

Regardless, by next week the Destroyer will have reached its position in international waters where it will stay for the next 2 months. The deployment will, per the Vice President, remind the world that we are serious about international stability, and we’ll go anywhere and risk anything for the safety of people around the globe.

Rezua, what now?

Once again, the Rezuan Foreign ministry has been at work to undermine the President’s foreign policy. The country has endeavored on yet another peace brigade, utilizing diplomacy to work with the Tao to end their development of EMP weapons and to deter an invasion of Divergia. The move comes after the USA rejected a Resolution to outlaw EMP weapons. The Vice President has voiced criticism of the Rezuan plan for peace, stating that the Tao cannot be trusted to uphold their end of the bargain.

“Sure, the Rezuan Government has its heart in the right place. But they’re missing a key component. The honor of the country their negotiating with. A country that has developed a WMD and which has taken an aggressive stance against Divergia. We will not accept any deal that does not allow for observes to oversee the end of the EMP program and the destruction of any that currently exist. We never have trusted the Tao, and until these EMP’s are gone for certain, we will not back down. Should these EMP weapons remain and development continue, let this serve as a solemn warning. We will do everything we must for the security of Divergia and for the world. Disarm these weapons and allow for observers to oversee, or face devastating sanctions.”

Elections Closing In

The Senate

The Senate contains 52 seats, of which 44 Senators are likely safe from being defeated. Political Analysts predict that Liberals will take 2 seats from Conservatives, and lose 5 of their own. They also anticipate that the Nationalist Alliance Senator will lose his seat to a Conservatives. The Conservatives are also expected to take 5 seats from Liberals, giving them a net change of +4. The Liberals will have a net loss of -3, while the Nationalist Alliance has a net loss of -1. Conservatives may even take enough seats to obtain an outright majority without forming a coalition with the Nationalist Alliance.

The House

The House of Representatives and its 446 seats are all up for election, with a huge number being in serious contention. 49 seats are set to change parties should circumstances dictate it. In total, Conservatives are set to gain an amazing 42 seats and lose 7. Liberals are posed to lose 40 seats and gain 4. The Social Union is posed to lose 2 and gain 3, while the Nationalist Alliance is likely going to neither lose nor gain any seats.

The Presidency

President Pearce leads in the polls with 48%, compared to 22% for his Liberal Challenger, 12% for the Nationalist Alliance Candidate, and 5% for the Social Union nominee. The remaining 15% are undecided. If all 15% side with Liberal’s, the President would still win a commanding victory, with over an 11-point margin to the nearest competitor. Analysts expect at least 7% of undecided voters to vote with the President, giving him 55% of all votes cast.

The incredibly strong showing by Conservative Candidates, especially the President, comes amid growing support for the party. After the victory in Konetya and the now recovered Pantorran Economy, many voters pin both successes to the President and by extension his party. Polling finds that 76% of Pantorran’s are happy with president’s Domestic Policies, while 66% approve of his Foreign Policies. Among registered voters, his approval rating has peaked at 60%.

Aznazia vs. Sunrisia: Where do we stand?

Aznazia and Sunrisia have been engaged in what some would describe as a “Tariff War”. Both sides have raised tariff’s against the other, increasing the price of trade between the two nations and creating potential for a major crisis. The Vice President laid out our government’s position on the trade conflict today.

“We aren’t ‘chosing a side’. Sunrisia is one of our closest allies, and so is Aznazia. We are friends with each of them, and excuse ourselves from any quarrels that they might have with one another. Many of our allies are at odds with our other allies, this is a reality that we in Pantorrum have faced for decades. It is the official policy of the Federal Government to refrain from involvement in disputes among our allies. I would, however, caution both the Aznazian and Sunrisian Governments. Raising Tariff’s on one another will only result in escalation by the opposing side, and thus trade will become so heavily burdened that it can no longer exist on any considerable scale. And withdrawing diplomatic staff from a country over such menial things is far from helping the cause of peace. If you continue down this road, you will destroy any economic agreements you share. This would not be beneficial to either of you, and we do not want to see either of our allies compromise their economy for the sake of petty disagreements. I would advise Sunrisia and Aznazia to mutually agree upon A rate that both countries would need to stick to for a defined time before they are allowed to change the tariff. Otherwise, this trade dispute will lead to other disputes, which lead to increasingly worse disputes. Aznazian withdrawl of Diplomatic Personnel is only the beginning of what might be a slippery and deadly slope. This escalation will continue, until eventually, peaceful coexistence is no longer a viable option. Let’s reverse course now, as obviously neither of you have anything to gain by tariff hikes on the other, even if only to keep balance. Not to mention that we, here in Pantorrum, stand to lose a great deal as well. When our allies fight, we feel the backlash. We feel it in all the goods we trade, and in all the commerce we do together. For the betterment of the world, I encourage you to be civil and reasonable.”

The State Department said it is committed to maintaining a Tariff rate equal to whatever tariff is imposed on Pantorran Imports to the receiving country, something Aznazia was trying to do in response to the raising of Tariff's by Sunrisia. The Vice President has high hopes that both sides will reduce tariff's to prior rates, and put this issue to bed.

PM Matthew Praeterit Travels To Sunrisia To Renegotiate TPA: Opposition Supporters Stage Protest Demonstrations

The promised parliamentary session to discuss Vesvai–Sunrisia trade and Dogmana tariff dilemma has been held this early morning. Members of the opposition parties did not attend as a sign of protest, which is why PM Matthew Praeterit’s ruling party literally had the entire parliament to themselves. The opposition coalition instead continued campaigning. In the parliamentary session, it was decided that Vesvai’s and Sunrisia’s leaders and officials needed to meet to renegotiate the Sunrisia–Vesvai Trade Promotion Agreement. After the session, PM Praeterit called Sunrisian President Nóv Fáustîtár telling the leader that they needed to meet. The Sunrisian President invited Vesvai’s Prime Minister to Aestin along with his delegation. As PM had begun preparing to leave for Sunrisia, the opposition block did not stay silent for long and accused the Prime Minister and his government of “political prostitution.” Supporters of the opposition coalition had begun staging massive street protests against the trade deal’s renegotiation. The masses had an ocean of Vesvai’s national flags hovering over their heads as they carried them and marched forward or gathered in large numbers without moving further. But within that dark red, gold and black ocean, flags of MDAA, the national flags of Sunrisia, Creperia, Edereon, The Seven United, Pantorrum and Alyria could also be spotted along with ancient symbols of Vesvai’s civilization and current symbols used by non-radical nationalists. The protesters had remained peaceful, but the authorities have mobilized police units and other non-military forces to control public order. All of this craziness is taking place simultaneously with the further campaigning for the September general election. During his departure, PM Matthew Praeterit left a Deputy Prime Minister to run the government and the campaign for their party, while opposition leaders try to balance between campaigning and controlling their protesting supporters. Public polling on who is receiving the most support has still not been disclosed.

Waste-to-Energy Incineration in Rhodevus

Rhodevus is a proud user of biomass plants and other energy plants which can be labelled internationally as energy incinerators. Many biomass plants around Rhodevus use discarded bio-waste such as thrown out or rotting food to gain electricity. So, the concept of using Rhodeve waste to produce energy is not a new concept. But, next week the town of Willemshtir, located nearby Brevin will be gaining Rhodevus's first true garbage waste to energy recycling and incineration plant. The hope of the W2E Incinerator is to reduce the amount of garbage in Rhodeve landfills.

"This will not be replacing recycling. This will be used on top of it. Landfills around this country are filling up. They are filled with microbes which are polluting the air constantly. What is needed is for us to reduce their size dramatically. This will hopefully be the first of many waste to energy incinerators around Rhodevus." Queen Diana said in a press conference when the plans were initially laid out three years ago.

Many in Brevin are demonstrating outside the nearly operation plant, demanding it be torn down. Their reasons being that incineration releases harmful chemicals into the atmosphere, leading to such things as acid rain.

Dr. John Franks, a scientist which helped to develop the incineration system told the press, "99.9% of the smoke that will be created by the incinerator is non-toxic carbon dioxide and water. The garbage ends up reducing to ash about 15% of the original size and can be used for other things such as a road concrete layer and to fill up abandoned mines. There will be no chance of toxic rain fall or radiation or any other unfounded fears. There are going to be CO2 scrubbers and other environmental precautions to add as redundant safeguards just in case to quash any fears."

Algae: A Year Later

It has already been a year since the implementation of EnviroTECH's Algae Lamp System (ALS) began it's testing in the Acadia Military College, Reuters Point, Bauview and an Aznazian desert. Finally, the research has been compiled and all the information has been recorded to determine the future of this technology.

"It is promising." States co-founder and inventor of the ALS, Steve Harroway. "This technology works fairly well in multiple different climates we tested it in. What we have discovered is that while nearly double the number of Light Systems are required than the old street lights, in places where these systems have been introduced, there is a noticeable decrease in night-time car crashes as well as suicides. Some 23% decrease in major car crashes and 11% decrease in minor car accidents. Along with a 8.5% reduction in suicide rates. Over time, we hope to have more testing done and to improve the efficiency and luminosity of the algae systems to be on par with current lighting ways."

Another major advancement in algae technology was the Algae Tent, developed by Father/Daughter Duo Mike and Mary Shamill. A year ago, their tent won international acclaim for this technology which comverted huge amounts of CO2 into oxygen and biomass. About 441 lbs of biomass produced every day as well as accomplished the same amount of CO2 conversion each day as 50,000 square meters of forest. The systems have been continuously studied and built on, as well as used in major cities around Rhodevus. They have so far performed spectacularly and Rhodevus is considering buying more in the coming months

Sunrisian Tariff Proposal Goes Through

Earlier today the Rhodeve government passed the Sunrisian Equilibrium Bill. This bill allows for the automatic set of Rhodevus's tariff laws with Sunrisia to increase to whatever the tariffs Sunrisia has on Rhodevus are set to. So, if Sunrisia charges a 15% fee on trade for example, Rhodevus's tariff will immediately increase to 15% as well. This law has been passed to ensure equal exchange between Sunrisia and Rhodevus after their increase of tariffs on Dogmanan countries.

"We are not going to have a tariff war as many in the international community are saying. We will not be raising tariffs over that which the Sunrisian government has placed on us, but instead looking to find an equilibrium that works well for both our government and our counterparts in Sunrisia. We hope to continue to maintain stable relations with the country into the foreseeable future."

Former Sunrisian President Mélior Vîttá Enlists In The Sunrisian Defense Force

There used to be times when kings, emperors and national leaders would march and fight alongside their troops in the battlefields. The tradition has still lived on in many countries, but has become a dying trend, as contemporary world leaders usually give orders, while not standing shoulder to shoulder with the army. That might be the case with rebels, militias and guerillas, but not so much with the regular armed forces of sovereign states anymore. Leaders might have a history of military service and even direct war service earlier in life, but engaging in that, while in the position of the head of state, is not as common anymore. That is understandable, since times have changed. However, this old historical trend has been echoed in Sunrisia again to a certain extent.

Former President and last leader of the First Sunrisian Republic Mélior Vîttá, has announced that he would be enlisting in the Sunrisian Defense Force. The announcement came as an unusual yet positive surprise, as the former President is opening a chapter in his life, which usually happens in the younger years. But Vîttá believes that it is never too late. Having not served in the Sunrisian Defense Force in the First Republic during his youth, the former President has decided to take on that duty now. It is still not the same as having an acting national leader serving alongside the troops and being ready to join them in the field. Rather, it is a former President of a former incarnation of Sunrisia. Still, it has that nostalgic, historical, romanticized flavor to it. When asked further about his plans on which military branch would he be choosing, Vîttá said that he would be enlisting in the army and move towards becoming an officer, high ranking or not. He did have some plans of returning to Sunrisian politics in the past.

During the civil war or the Sunrisian Confrontation, Vîttá associated himself with the North Sunrisian opposition, one of the victorious sides that along with its equivalents in the South, achieved regime change, as well as reunification. There were times, when Vîttá thought about returning to the political scene in the Democratic Union and in the Second Republic. He considered joining the Democrats again or become an independent, which would give him more flexibility, more middle ground and more chances of possibly working in the administration’s cabinet, even if the Democrats weren’t in power, rather than being in the opposition due to affiliations. The citizens were not against him rejoining the political scene, rather keeping a neutral attitude towards it. In the end, Vîttá’s thoughts remained exactly that – thoughts and considerations that were never turned into actions. He admitted to still retaining a sense of guilt over being an overthrown national leader, even if any grudges against him went away with time and he was rehabilitated as a historical figure. Vîttá’s final choice was swift – let the new generations govern and build new Sunrisia.

Even without being in politics, there are other ways to serve your country and the former President is following one of them. He governed from an office, now he will defend on the field. This is what the former President said in an interview on one of the new networks:

You know, some people make achievements in life, like enter a certain position or gain a rank and in that position they have specific functions. They have their duty. Usually they just continue fulfilling that one function continuously and if it’s important or brings benefit to others, that’s great. Usually it’s just part of how society is built and functions. However, these people still picture a point at which all of this is going to conclude and by that time they will either have accumulated positive or negative legacy. And during this journey with a clear beginning and an end, they will just stay in that same position, because they had either found comfort or because they are just good at what they do. They want stability, rather than stretching themselves too thin and there is nothing wrong with, sometimes it is even necessary depending on what you do. But what I’m trying to put a focus on, is what comes after. You will have people that will have completed their journey’s from a beginning to an end and then say that they are done, they have done what they needed to do, they had made accomplishments, they deserve to put an end to it and retire. Meanwhile, you will have others, who will feel like there is so much more they still have left to give, not just because of a moral obligation, but because of a natural sense of duty. They still have steam left in them and they need to let it out somewhere. That’s where my thinking comes in.

I want to dedicate my life to serving Sunrisia. I was a President and even if I had not been overthrown and we would have preserved the First Republic, if I had completed my terms or all terms I would be allowed to serve under the Constitution if I were re-elected, I would still most likely have that feeling like I’m not done yet. Most likely I would have stayed in politics or had found additional functions on the side, since I’m not afraid to stretch myself thin. However, because things have turned out the way they did, I would not be comfortable being a politician anymore. I was and remain an overthrown leader and that’s the end of my political career. I associated myself with the opposition against the leadership in North during the civil war and I stood with the protesters on the streets during the Revolution of Rebirth, but at that point I was a civilian. I had thoughts about returning to politics during the Democratic Union times and the present times, but those were just thoughts that I never acted on. I will not be a politician anymore, but I will continue serving Sunrisia in others ways that I can, because I still have the sense of obligation in me. I will not be trying to improve my image or climb any career latters anymore, as they say in some cultures. This is strictly my personal calling, my allegiance, my wish to give all that I still have to give and as much as I will have to give. I will not hide the fact I have a longing for redemption before myself and before all Sunrisians. Under my leadership our country was lost once and I want to guarantee with my own life this time that it will not happen again.

Former President Mélior Vîttá also said that his service will not consist just of the protection of Sunrisia’s borders, as he will be willing to serve our country in any other necessary ways. He will be ready to defend Sunrisia, Sunrisia’s allies and participate in our country’s humanitarian, anti-terror and other efforts and ventures. Vîttá stated that it’s part of his beliefs and his faith in the Sunrisian way.

Links of defunct Oculus to the Bannerless Brotherhood under investigation

Image

Ederi intelligence and special services are taking a closer look at the former domestic terrorist group Oculus and what ties it might have had to the global Bannerless Brotherhood. Many terrorist groups around the world have been found to have some sort of a link or cooperation with the BB even if they were or are operating under their own brand. That was the case with the Black Sun terrorist group that emerged in Ventismar. They seemed to be entirely independent, but ties to the Bannerless Brotherhood were soon discovered. That has as well mostly been the case with many terror groups in Corentia. Creperia is the brightest example. The country has exterminated many internal terrorist groups in its autonomies. Basically all groups were found to have had some sort of a link to the BB. In Dogmana, the Red Hand terrorist group in Aznazia operates independently with its own agenda, but Bannerless Brotherhood support or influence is a possibility. In Rhodevus, there is no other brand or a new terrorist group created. BB outright possesses active cells in that country. Due to its global presence, the Bannerless Brotherhood appeared to consolidate many separate terrorist groups of the world into one big team of terrorist groups under BB leadership.

With many similar cases, the Ederi government has taken an interest in whether the defunct Oculus was part of the deal. As it is known in Edereon, Oculus was a domestic terrorist group that surfaced after a coup in Edereon and the rise of a nationalist dictatorship. The group became truly active during a liberation war of Edereon by MDAA, where Oculus tried to wage an insurgency for power in a weakened Edereon. Oculus faced defeat and was declared defunct, because it has not been active anywhere since. Ederi special services said that the group was luckily in its premature state and thus was easily eliminated by joint Ederi, Sunrisian and Creperian forces. Early investigations concluded that the ethnic make-up of Oculus practically did not have ethnic Ederis or Ederi citizens. Instead, they were international mercenaries, making them an artificial terrorist group manufactured for Edereon. They established a presence in the country during the short-lived rule of the nationalist dictatorship. Edereon concluded that the nationalist dictatorship made a pact with Oculus or might have even supported the group. Such events would have turned Edereon into a safe haven for terrorists, but luckily that was averted with swift allied action. Similar cases have been seen in other countries in Corentia and around the globe.

Ederi government says that the intelligence and special services would be teaming up with MDAA counterparts to investigate possible Oculus and Bannerless Brotherhood link. The findings might hopefully uncover the technologies or tools that BB has used to create “spin-off” terrorist groups or recruit existing terrorist groups into a global network. If obtained, such information would be a significant Ederi contribution to the regional and global anti-terror struggle. The intelligence and special services additionally want to make sure that Oculus is truly finished with and keep up the successful pattern of anti-terrorist partnership. Close anti-terrorist cooperation internationally has kept recent times terror-free in a large portion of the world.

Sunrisia: Brace Yourself, Tariffs Are Coming

Fortwel Gazette

Recently, the government of Sunrisia enacted an unprovoked tariff rise upon the nations of ROVAA. Currently, diplomatic relations with Sunrisia have somehow slipped to the point where the nations of ROVAA aren't considered ally nations. President Harrisburg announced his shock to the nation today over this tariff raise:

My fellow Oblarenites,

Today, I have decided to follow the examples of Aznazia and Rhodevus and have signed a bill passing new tariffs on Sunrisia. This action is not only fair to our businesses, but absolutely necessary if they wish to have a fighting chance in global trade. I must admit, however, I am horrified that our relations with Sunrisia have somehow slipped so much.

A few years ago, Creperia was acting with hostility towards the people of Sunrisia. During that dark time, Oblarenite soldiers rushed up the coasts of Creperia to help the Sunrisian military reach the capital. Ours was not a glorious fight. The war was not won by us alone. But our blood stained the sand of Creperia. The lives of our people were forfeit to help protect the people of Sunrisia. As the Bible tells us "There is no greater love than this: to lie down your life for a friend."

I do not often quote religious texts but I could find no greater definition of friendship than what I just said before. Our people, Oblarenites and Sunrisians, are bonded together in blood. It wasn't just our blood either. Creperians were also killed, Creperian families also devastated. Despite that bloodshed in war, Creperia and Sunrisia became allies and friends.

So I ask myself 'How can Sunrisia believe that we would not do that again?' We have already shown them what these tiny islands of ours can do. We are not a powerful nation. We are not an influential nation. But that doesn't mean we are not a strong nation. We are a nation of steel hard forged into a blade. We are a people united in bonds of kinship. And we are a complete people because of our liberty. Ours is not the path of the faint of heart. Ours is the path of right and wrong. Where democracy stands, our people's values live. We may not be Sunrisian but we are democratic citizens!

I ask for all nations involved to come to meet me in Fortwel this week to remember our friendship. These tariffs serve to break us apart, even if we tell ourselves it's not. Because it will happen. Unless we stop and think this out, our problems will only compound.

These passionate words from President Harrisburg received an overall positive feedback. There are some, however, who have demanded stronger actions against Sunrisia, such as more tariffs, even sanctions. This, however, is estimated to be only 14% of the public, while there are more undecided with 29%.

PM Matthew Praeterit Returns From Sunrisia Having Renegotiated TPA: Opposition Protests Grow

After 4 days, Prime Minister Matthew Praeterit has returned to Vesvai with news of a renegotiated Sunrisia–Vesvai Trade Promotion Agreement. PM said that he and the Sunrisian President had signed a new altered version, but the treaty stays in place. During his absence, Praeterit left a Deputy PM to lead the election campaign in Vesvai, but now PM would be back to lead it again.

Before taking back the charge at the campaign PM Praeterit spoke at the Parliament to explain what has changed now: “At renegotiations with the Sunrisians, we primarily focused on the tariff part. Under the old version of the agreement, tariffs between Vesvai and Sunrisia would have continued to drop annually. Once they would have dropped low enough, Vesvai and Sunrisia would then decide if we get rid of tariffs entirely and move on to free trade or stop at a certain point saving low tariffs. In renegotiations, I proposed to stop the tariff drop and keep them at the point that they are now, which is balanced enough. It’s Vesvai’s small sanction in a way. TPA is not that old of an agreement, so tariffs between Vesvai and Sunrisia did not have enough time to drop very low. If the Sunrisian side were not to agree to my proposition, I said that Vesvai would have to cut the existing treaty entirely and we would do it on our own. Yes, it would have hurt the economy, but Vesvai thought of solidarity with other Dogmanans, our allies first. We did not fear self-sacrifice. We are still attached more to Dogmanan countries in many more ways, than to Sunrisia or Corentia or any other part of the world. The Sunrisians agreed to my terms. I and President Fáustîtár signed the new version, which we will ratify at the Parliament here today. The treaty is still staying, but with necessary changes to support our Dogmanan brothers. As you might know, Oblaren increased tariffs on Sunrisia yesterday and now comes Vesvai’s turn to do what we can. At this point, the tariffs will not be dropping anymore. The trade flow will stay as usual. I think it is the best middle-ground for everybody.”

Some of the Prime Minister’s ruling party members criticized the renegotiations. They said that he should have withdrawn from the treaty entirely or at least suspended it, because the government never supported TPA. The government of Vesvai still considers TPA an agreement burdened on Vesvai by the stubborn Opposition. The ruling party believes that leaving TPA would have given Vesvai the necessary opportunity to increase tariffs on Sunrisia like all other Dogmanan countries. Others in the government said that keeping the same level of trade flow, but change the tariff part is also bad. That is because Vesvai will still trade a lot with Sunrisia, but pay more. Analysts say that PM is simply trying to win over some of the Opposition’s electorate and the population in general, because things have not been going well recently.

Many in Vesvai were very unhappy with the renegotiations of TPA, because they supported the deal. Protests by Opposition supporters were angry that the government might suspend the treaty and make Vesvai even more dependent on the rest of Dogmana. It would have also hurt Vesvai’s economy and be a step back in Vesvai’s progress of trading across the world. Many also said that the government was simply following orders of Vesvai’s larger neighbors that wanted to drag Vesvai down with them in the “tariff war” and increase Vesvai’s reliance on them. Others talked about Vesvai’s national pride and said that Vesvai, as a former colony, should just change course entirely and divorce itself from larger neighbors that were once colonizers. Analysts commented that PM would not have gotten rid of the deal, because at this point, the government was risking to either loose an election or cause a revolution. Instead an attempt at a middle ground was made. So far it does not seem to have worked in calming down protests, because they have been growing. Opposition supporters are not happy with TPA renegotiations and the altered version does not work for them. Polls on who is leading in terms of popularity have still not been released and agencies responsible for surveying voters were criticized for it.

In a recent campaign rally, the opposition coalition reacted to the renegotiated TPA: “We stand by what we said before and we are happy that more people are supporting our patriotic stance. The renegotiated deal is absurd, it will still harm Vesvai and it is nothing, but a gesture to satisfy foreign powers. It literally brings no benefit to our country, because we will trade the same way, but pay more for it. It makes no sense. Being forced to shoot ourselves in the foot like that is kind of embarrassing. It’s not just about the money, because we are not a materialistic or greedy nation. It’s the principal, it’s how Vesvai interacts with the world. People have been wanting for the Opposition to win a multi-vector foreign policy for Vesvai, but now we will be cornered in Dogmana again under Aznazian and Rhodeve feet. Good ol’ colonial days, so nostalgic. But in all seriousness, protests should be allowed to continue to show that democracy is not yet dead in Vesvai. I only encourage all our supporters and other protesters to stay calm and not do something “stupid.” The authorities, the police, other forces have been increasing presence on Vesvai’s streets for public order, so just stay peaceful. The election is right around the corner and you will have a chance to legally tell our leaders what you want.”

The Governor-General of Vesvai said that he would be addressing the population via live transmission to call for national solidarity.

Parliament In Gridlock Over Sunrisian Situation
With the recent wave of sanctions and tariff increases on Sunrisia, and interests of business wanted to re-establish ties with the country, the Parliament of Belantica is now in a gridlock and how to act. As of not too long ago, a majority of business and diplomatic ties between Sunrisia and Belantica were severed due to our nation's change in government, and despite tensions between certain factions, the queen has attempted to make efforts towards at least friendlier relations. However, despite Parliament wanting to create new legislation that re-opens trade between the two nations, recent actions by Belantica's allies that are against Sunrisia have put the brakes on that plan, in order to maintain healthy relations with our long-standing allies such as Rhodevus, Aznazia, and other Dogmanan nations. As a result, Parliament is now spit on what to do with the Sunrisian trade bill. One group says that the bill needs to be passed in order to repair already cold relations, well another group claims that the bill should be scrapped entirely to appeal to allies and anti-Sunrisian/MDAA groups within Belantica. One group said that Belantica should "end trying to improve relations" as they claim it will "hand over our country to them, and they no right to meddle in our affairs, and trade agreements as a way to let them sneak in". Queen Karen has yet to comment, but many suspect that she will either go ahead with continuing talks, or wait for Parliament to make a formal decision on how to handle the current trade agreement being proposed. Currently, tariffs on Sunrisian goods, like all nations who haven't signed a trade agreement, sits at 12% of the good's value, the bill is set to reduce it down to 8.5%. But due to recent actions by allies and nations more aligned with Belantica's views, a reduction in tariffs for Sunrisia might be off the table. However, Belantic officials cites that Sunrisia should begin the process of engaging in diplomatic talks with the Dogmanan nations, as well as Belantica, to see if there is a solution, if not, economic experts believe that increased pressure on their nation may hurt their economy.

Surge In Gang Violence Might Have Links To Cartels
In many major cities, there are gangs that like to cause trouble. With cartel activity picking up, gangsters all over are starting to shake the winter blues and are stirring up trouble in inner-city areas. Last night, the Montego Police Department responded to a gang "turf war" in the city's southside, and unfortunately, it got way out of hand that resulted in the deaths of 3 police officers, 2 bystanders, and 12 gang members, most of there deaths were caused by gang members themselves, with an estimated 500 shots being fired. It was believed that this gang war had connections with the drug trade, as cartel activity has been on the rise. Aside from the fatalities, 20 people were injured by gunfire, and 36 gangsters were taken into custody by the MPD's Gangs Task Force and SWAT units. After the area was secured, police found several trucks full of various narcotics that are believed to be heading for the ports or up north, and as a result, the VFA was contacted to conduct an investigation, believe that the cartels had their hand in this. The MPD suspects that this was a "major drug deal that went south very quickly" and is now begun a search for those who have definite connections to this deal gone wrong. The MPD also encourages visitors and residents to take extra care when traveling within the city limits and encourages those who can to report similar activity to the department, the Saint Francis County Sheriff's Office, or the state highway patrol in order to crack down on cartels.

Radical Military Clique seizes power
Today Zilveren Berg City was the site of chaos today as elements of the city under the control of Mathies van Velzen, grandson of former dictator Arjan van Velzen, locked down the streets and seized government buildings. Similar scenes Played out in other major cites as solders loyal to the coup arrest civilian and military leaders across the nation. Mathies took to the television and radio announce the formation of the "Provisional Military Government of the Social Union of Zilveren Berg", with himself as Chairmen. Mathies was also careful to distance himself from his grandfathers saying that he would not "Supt down to the level of barbarity that characterized his Arjan's final years". He has also made it clear he seeks to improve relations with socialist and communist countries across Sunalaya.

Chancellor Pudikov Arrives in Belantica to "Normalize" Relations
By: Edward Zitzner

UPDATED: 12 Pm August 29th

After months of planning with Belantica, Chancellor Pudikov flew to Center City to meet with Queen Karen after ties were strained during the political upheaval in Belantica. It is unknown how the meeting will go since Pudikov did at one point condemn the change in Government from a Representative Democracy into a Constitutional Monarchy similar to Rhodevus. At the time the reaction lead to a chilling in ties with most Constitutional Monarchies around the world who felt that Pudikov was accusing them of being more "authoritarian". As a result, investors from Aznazia and Belantica reacted by reversing investments and cancelling orders. However many analysts have said that Pudikov looks to reverse this after ties between the Sunrisia and ROVAA chiller to their lowest in decades.

Chancellor Pudikov addressed reporters at the airport saying that he would like to apologize for his comments that he made before meeting Queen Karen. "She has demonstrated herself to be a capable sovereign that her people support", he said while making his way to the waiting car with a Belantica military welcome ceremony. When asked if this meeting was in relation to Sunrisia's tariffs he responded, "This meeting has been in the works for months and is not related to Sunrisia. Aznazian and Belantica have many similar social and economic goals that can be achieved through stronger political cooperation".

Foreign Minister Accuses Sunrisia of "Trying to Dismantle ROVAA"
By: Kathryn Miller

UPDATED: 12:30 Pm August 29th

Aznazian Foreign Minister Juliet Travis has stated that "Sunrisia is actively trying to dismantle ROVAA by targeting only specific nations in Dogmana". Her comments come as the government in Vesvai debates over whether it should raise tariffs on Sunrisian goods after being asked by other members of ROVAA to do so in a show of unity. "Aznazia and the rest of ROVAA are more than willing to give Sunrisia the socio-economic 'space' that it wants in order to maintain friendly relations. However we can not stand by as Sunrisia looks to replace us in the Western Hemisphere and drive apart our economic, political and military alliance with the MDAA. Thankfully, many other nations of the MDAA have good ties with the nations of ROVAA since they see that both alliances can cooperate but that nations should also be able to maintain their sovereignty from other member states". For now, the question of whether Vesvai should be aligned with ROVAA or Sunrisia will remain up in the air until the Prime minister makes a decision.

Sunrisian Minister of Security Armăs Fórtídâ Calls Military Coups A “Resurging Epidemic”

The Department of Security has given attention to the recent resurgence of military coups around the world, a procedure where democracy and elections become obsolete and power is simply taken by force. Officials of the Department call it a big step back, which is starting to reflect older, more primitive and brutal times either of the Middle Ages or the 20th century. Nevertheless, the 21st century has also seen its share. The discussion was sparked by a fresh coup in Zilveren Berg, with PRC, Azovskaya, Cafleu and others also being brought into the conversation, along with reflections on past identical situations. Minister of Security Armăs Fórtídâ said the following:

The President and the Department of International Relations of Sunrisia have made it clear earlier that Sunrisia condemns the coup in Zilveren Berg. We do not want to give into conspiracy theories before anything is proven, but we are looking at the possibility of the coup in Zilveren Berg being linked to the coup in PRC. Both of these states are neighboring countries and coups in them practically have an identical scenario, where they had ended up with communist regimes installed in power. The time difference between these coups is not really a factor that rules out the link between them.

In the past, we would have immediately looked at the USJR as a possible orchestrator or a country that has relation or influence on the coup. The Soviets had taken part in many coups, communist and non-communist, even if they had denied their participation. The coup in PRC immediately saw the USJR establish a military base there to secure strategic positions and also deter other countries from containing the spread of communism. The coup in Azovskaya was a non-communist one, yet the situation was identical. A government was overthrown, new regime installed, the USJR secures a military base. The interest was non-ideological, but a strategic and imperialist one. The USJR secured influence over a nearby country and would now have that country “willingly” merge with the USJR’s successor Ophioneus. An annexation is presented as a merge with consent. It’s early to judge contemporary Ophioneus, because they have moved on from the communist past of the USJR, but they might still play a role in supporting international communist forces for strategic purposes. Maybe ideology does not even matter anymore, as long as there is a possibility to use those forces for gain. We are also looking at the possibility of the Bannerless Brotherhood having a hand in the coup in Zilveren Berg and possibly many coups around the world, because they are not concerned with ideology, as long as they can overthrow governments and install proxies. We cannot say anything about who is responsible until proof is found, but right now we are speculating.

The coups do not necessarily have to have an outside force involved in them, but they usually have a lot to win from them or can influence. They can be isolated incidents, entirely caused by internal forces. Coups are a historical global trend and have been for a long time. It is an illegal armed change in power and like any trend it can simply spread across countries naturally, rather than be brought there directly externally on a silver platter. The coup in Zilveren Berg might have entirely been an isolated spillover of what happened in PRC and a communist takeover had simply spread into the neighboring state. However, because of our weak response to the coup in PRC, an outside distant power with geopolitical ambitions might have still orchestrated it. The communist regime in PRC might have also orchestrated it to control a neighboring country. The Bannerless Brotherhood could have orchestrated it or traitorous marginal forces in Zilveren Berg might have done it inspired by what had happened in PRC. Our country and our immediate neighbors have all experienced coups and coup attempts in our modern history. We have recovered and with common efforts we had built a system and structures to ensure peace, security, stability and self-sufficiency. This has worked at least for Western Corentia, but not for the rest of the continent, with coups and drug wars still continuing.

Sunrisia has been committed to doing what it can to ensure stability for all of Corentia with cooperation from the continent’s countries, as well as guarantee the same kind of stability for the rest of the world. Rogue states, violent ideologies, terrorism – we have been fighting and trying to contain it all. Sunrisia will try not to unilaterally meddle in the affairs of other countries, but the Department of Security and the President have been discussing the necessity to contain the spread of previously mentioned threats, because sitting back out of fear of being called a hegemon or an imperialist, is creating a dangerous world. As Sunrisians, we know that our heart is in the right place and we have no ambitions. We will do the best we can to fight and contain threats to regional and international stability, while upholding international law.

Minister Fórtídâ went on to talk about the active role of the Department of Security and the Prime Intelligence Division (PID) in fighting cartels in Corentia, making sure that the terrorist group Oculus remains defunct in Edereon and elsewhere, as well as resume exposure and crackdown on international terrorism. The Convet is expected to vote on sanctions against the new post-coup leadership in Zilveren Berg, an initiative supported by President Nóv Fáustîtár.

In other news:

 • President Nóv Fáustîtár and Prime Minister Matthew Praeterit of Vesvai renegotiate the Sunrisia–Vesvai Trade Promotion Agreement, signing an altered version. Larger trade flow is not expected to take a hit in the near future, even though tariffs would stop dropping and remain as they are.

 • Minister of Finance and Economic Development Pârsīn Sîlvá: “Tariffs have helped us equalize Sunrisia–Dogmana and Sunrisia–Ophion trade flows. Our trade flow is growing with the rest of Corentia and most of Ventismar, especially VU. We are adding new countries from different regions to our list of intensified trade partners regularly.

 • Sunrisian historian: “President Nathaniel Harrisbur either has her facts wrong or is engaging in historical revisionism. The second military campaign in Creperia was about a good-willed re-installment of a recent democratic government in that country and not defending ourselves. Sunrisian self-defense is where the first campaign started from. The Oblarenites partook in the second campaign and so did others. Their input was not ignored, but the situation was different than what President Harrisbur described and I think guilt-tripping our country in regards to the way things are today, is just wrong.

 • Minister of International Relations Ectrăr Álienan: “Aznazian officials are just expressing their position. Sunrisia does consider itself to be in conflict with anybody, so remarks from Dogmanans are not hurtful to us. We do not want anything from anybody, so there is no basis to feel hurt. Other parts of the world have an equal standing with Sunrisia and nobody is taking a special place in our hearts, except for our individual allies.

 • The Seven United has called for another MDAA consultation. The purpose is yet to be disclosed.

 • Sunrisia offers humanitarian aid in the Calva–Austine crisis.

 • A phenomena similar to northern lights had painted the skies over parts of Sunrisia, despite not being thought geographically possible.

 • More Sunrisians are choosing vegetarianism over meat-eating or veganism. Famous chefs question whether scientists would be able to develop a healthy artificial equivalent of meat in the future.

 • President Nóv Fáustîtár and the First Family adopt a Chocolate Labrador puppy. The name is still being chosen by the President’s children.

 • Sunrisian government is preparing to set a goal for a complete transition towards electric cars nationwide.

 • Emo rock band Raven admits that their dark gothic image is just a style choice, but does not reflect their mental state. The message was most likely PR targeted at parents, though band mates swear they are just being honest.

 • Ucinda plans grand festivals to celebrate the city’s birthday, according to the mayor.

New Economic Plan Unveiled

Following a study conducted by the Royal Economic Inquiry Board in early 2016 identified a sharp increase in the rate of unemployment and a widening income gap between the upper and middle class, the Government has officially announced a new economic plan to address this growing issue. Titled the "Economic Revitalization Strategy" the new plan will increase the powers of the Economic Inquiry Board to issue greater government investments into certain sectors of the economy, or "areas of interest" as outlined by the plan.

While specific economic sectors were not yet named, it was stated by the President of the Economic Inquiry Board, Nervan Ilstig, that a comprehensive study was underway to determine the priority of these areas of interest. Once identified, these areas of interest will be given heavy government subsidies in order to expand or revitalize these sectors as needed. Furthermore, this plan will also provide additional allocation of funds to repairing and expanding the national infrastructure. It further outlines the national policy on increasing international trade with Eikangaards neighbors.

The plan has only just been announced and already many prominent members of the National Parliament have criticized the plan. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Altr Whid, has been quoted as saying; "The Economic Revitalization Strategy does not aim to reform and revitalize our economic policies and systems. Rather, it simply consolidates additional economic powers with the EIB, and its policies removes the ability of various sectors to respond to changes in demand within the free market. In layman's terms, it amounts to outright theft of private Eikangaardi enterprises and will only succeed in widening the income gap."

Others were far kinder to the plan, with Senator Kein Verdmiin stating that he was strongly in favor of the plan. "I think that it's just what we needed." He says. "The naysayers believe that this plan isn't founded in reality, that it's just the way for the government to quash civil rights. Well the reality is that our businesses are content to hoard their wealth and do nothing with it. Our country has so much potential, and we need to put that into action. This is the way to do it."
