Belantica And Allies Conduct Drills, With The Focus On Invasions
Due to recent tensions throughout the world, top officials within the government and the military have organized war games to be conducted by several branches of the Belantic military. Not only would our own troops and equipment be present, but they would be alongside others from the allies of Belantica-including Rhodevus, Rezua, Aznazia, Allentyr, and Umbrellya in perhaps the largest drill in the nation's history. This was prompted after recent completions on other military drills around the general area, and due the government's concern for the safety and sovereignty of the nation, organized with her allies these drills to be completed over the next week. These drills are important, as they are meant to simulate an invasion of Belantica, and how Belantic and allied forces will respond to stop and push back an invading force quickly and effectively. Since the December Uprsing, both Parliament and the queen have stressed the importance of reassuring the public's confidence in our nation's defense capabilities, and show that Belantica has supportive allies that know the importance of cooperation to create a better future for all. The idea is the simulation would involved all forces participating, and then they would be divided up into groups serving as the "defenders" and the "invaders", balancing out by making sure each force has troops in both roles for the drills. The idea is that the drill would start at a certain distance from the coast, and the goal is to drive the invaders towards a specified beach using whatever assets available. Once this part is complete, the teams would be reshuffled, and start the process on how to prevent an invading force from landing in the first place.

On top of practicing defense protocols and doctrines to deter and prevent invasions, the drills also focused on the offensive side as well. "Not only do we need to make sure we can defend, but also go on the offense when needed," quoted Brigadier General Mary-Ann Souley, "think of it as a two-sided sword that has to be wielded with both confidence and care, a fine balance. It's also important to show those wishing to inflict harm or grief towards us and our allies that it will not happen on the shores or land that we work constantly to remain free from the grasps of our enemies, and to show that we're at a critical point in determining how our defense and offense doctrines are carried out." When asked about why there is also drills relating to offensive invasions, Souley responded, "One of our fellow Commonwealth partners and their neighbor state (being The Bohin and Molenston) are constantly having skirmishes over both land and the right to water, something that everyone in the world deserves. Neither side seems to be willing to meet with one another, and would rather commit acts of terrorism without any thought of improving the situation. It is also known that aside from preventing our enemies from coming in the first place, we need to have a plan ready for when we need to go to their doorstep as well." When asked about what the Rhodeve Commonwealth will do she respond, "I personally do not know, but all I can say is that this is a concern for the organization as a whole, however, my judgement on the situation is only based on observations, as I do not dwell within Commonwealth affairs, therefore I do not have an answer to that question."

Aside from that, the army is pleased to say that these drills will also push the new Type 17 MBTs to the test, as it is the latest and most advanced tank at the MoD's disposal, packing features such as infrared targeting, hydraulic suspension, reactive armoring, night vision cameras, and a whole array of sensors to help crews detect possible hostiles. "It's really a pinnacle of our military technology, quoted Lieutenant Chris Greeves, an officer specializins in electronics, " it [the Type 17] is a MBT that has been designed for Belantica from the ground up, and all the parts associated with it have been produced and assembled here as well. It's really the only tank that is tailored fit for Belantica in the days of modern combat, making earlier generations such as the Type 78 and Type 94 look like they were made in the stone age. We are incredibly proud of the time and effort we've put in developing the newest tank to keep the country safe."

Rezuan Empire Goes to War
Eastern Breeze

It was 82% yes and 18% no. Over the past few weeks, Rezua has been preparing for war. After a national poll, the Rezuan people voted to go to war after Parliament's vote was a close 52-48. Currently, 1,160 Rezuans are on their way to Konetya to fight Union forces. These soldiers were all volunteers and several more trips are expected. In total, between 5,000 to 15,000 troops are anticipated to be joining the war.

Acting Empress Christina has expressed her regret that no peaceful solution could be found but said that the "Union's iron fisted attitude" left Rezua with no choice if it wanted to protect Konetyan civilian lives. The main objective of this war is to defend the ethnic groups that Azovkaya had wanted to destroy. In addition, Rezuan troops will support Konetya in breaking away from their military dictatorship. In the sea, Rezuan ships have not gotten closer to Soviet fleets and do not intend to. Rezua's war is with the cruel and cold-hearted Union dictator, not with the Soviet people.

Kashiharese National Railways Re-Consolidate Into Kashihara Rail
Image
A Kashiharese Shinkansen running rounds to Teito.

Kashiharese National Railways, the government-owned railway management company, has undergone a severe reorganization effort.

Salaries have been changed, budgets have been shuffled, and regional headquarers have been moved.

The name of the company has been changed to "Kashihara Rail" to reflect these large changes.

These events have occurred after widespread allegations of corruption, inefficiencies, and train delays longer than two minutes.

PM Tōru Hideyoshi praised the changes, and visited a new Shinkansen line from Hōmei to Teito opening in honor of these changes.

He gave a speech hoping the era of the efficient train line shall continue forever into Kashihara's future.

Tao proposes Suijin accords

Today, Aina Miyako , UST's head military attaché, departed to Belatica to propose the newly written Suijin accords. She departed from Neshito, and is supposed to arrive in Albany city. Aina served the UST in the civil war. Becoming a ace after earning her 25th kill, she was offered command of the 2nd air force. She accepted the command, and formed the Emperors air guard, one of the most disciplined fighting squadrons in the east. After the civil war she became a Diplomat tasked with representing the UST military as a whole. The Suijin accords is essentially a pact of non-aggression with other agreements.

News Bulletin: Soviet Forces Redeploy to Rezuan Boarder

News Bulletin: General Petya Vikenti, commanding the 3rd People's Field Army, has announced that his forces have been ordered to re-deploy to the Communist Reich along the Rezuan boarder. The move, stated to be a result of recent military provocations by the Rezuan goverment, is a sudden reversal in the de-militarization of the Reich/Rezuan boarder. Ten armored brigades, in addition to two mechanized infantry divisions and two motorized infantry divisions will be deployed along the boarder in conjunction with Reich forces. The General announced that all leaves, vacations, and absences have been terminated, instructing that all applied men go to their mobilization points and prepare to move. It is expected that the force, moving by train, will arrive within the next week.

The move has erupted outrage in the Supreme Soviet, which is still locked in gridlock. Many pundints are speculating that Mortimer will have a tough time getting approval for more military actions. The Ophion Coalition has applauded the move, but the Communist Party has not supported the President on this manner.

Intervention in Konetya Halted, Troops Flood Eastern Border
RezNews

The recent re-deployment of Soviet troops to the Communist Reich's border has halted troop flow to Konetya. One transport plane was able to reach Konetya, but all others were turned back. Currently, one hundred and sixty-six Rezuan troops are within Konetya. For now, no more troops will be joining them. Instead, Parliament has declared a state of emergency and given Acting-Empress Christina the office of High Military Commander. This means that all of Rezua's armed forces are now under the command of the Acting-Empress. With this power, Acting-Empress Christina has ordered the deployment of 100,000 troops to the Rezuan-Reichian border. She commented that she does not want the Communist Reich to be caught in the crossfire of Rezua and the USJR if war breaks out.

While she has armed the border, she has asked the USJR to consider revoking their re-deployment. Rezua and the USJR would agree on an exact time in which all new troops will leave the Rezuan-Reichian border. Acting-Empress Christina has urged Primer Richtofen to support this plan of troop withdrawal. She did say, however, that if the USJR does not remove its troops either would she. Still, air patrols in Eastern Rezua have tripled and all civilians within ten miles of the border are being forced to evacuate. Empress Ymira has been ordered to return back to Rezua, and will be back in Rezua by the evening, if not earlier.

The Augustus Everen and its fleet near Avozkaya have been ordered to blockade the Soviet blockade and assume the highest alertness. However, they are under orders to not fire upon Soviet forces unless they are fired on first or if the Soviets try to run their blockade. Naval units near Eomeria have been ordered to blockade Soviet passage from the Northern Pass but will allow other nation's ships. In Kurzera, naval units have been ordered to leave port and to sail closer to the mainland and act with extreme alertness.

Acting-Empress Christina has also requested a meeting with the leader of the USJR, President Mortimer. She has also asked that the meeting be held in a neutral nation where both sides do not feel like there is bias against them. The meeting, however, will only allow Rezuan and Soviet officials. The Acting-Empress stated that she does not wish to have war with the USJR.

University of Teito Releases Info on Sex-for-Grades Scandal
Image
Main Hall of Teito University's Bunkyō Campus

A staffer in the Internal Services at the University of Teito has released documents correlating to a massive scandal revealed last Saturday.

The scandal was first brought to light by a former student athlete during an interview with KHK news recently.

The athlete, kept anonymous for privacy reasons, revealed that teachers would exploit students for sex in exchange for inflated grades.

The new documents reveal communications between teachers that implicate which teachers were and weren't involved in the scandal.

The President of the University has refused to comment as of now, and a statement has not been released.

The National Police are beginning a sweeping investigation of the University and its staff using this information.

Carter Act passed 425 votes to 356 with military placed on immedate availability. Immediate funds (+1%) added to Commiss Army coffers

The controversial Carter Act was passed today 425 votes to 356 splitting all parties except for the UNP in half on voting yes, or no to passing the act which was made in 1984 to put the Commiss Army on immediate readiness. Michelle Ahina had came outside of Unitary Parliament under the hot Corentian dry-season sun after the act was passed to speak.

"Today I have put forward the Carter Act for the first time since 1992. The Act for some who may not know immediately puts our military into notice, that they are ready to deploy or defend their country within 48 hours. The Carter Act also increases funding to the military by 1% over a undisclosed space of time. The reason we have done this is very simple, the world is unstable. We have illegitimate governments waging war in the Ophion Tundra while in Ziambian a cocky dictatorship bombs the other country without a response. Not only this, but the USJR deployed troops to the Communist Reichs border with Rezua. Rezua, doing the same to their border with The Communist Reich. The starter pistol for World War 3 is in the hands of these two nations and Sunalaya is watching closely. The Carter Act can be in use for over five years, and should the world stay the way it is we will keep it in action for this length of time, and even more if needs be."

The decision to throw this act into the middle of Parliament session caused surprise within all of the parties. Soldurs Des voted unanimously for while the other parties, without discussing the matter due to the surprise of the act being put to vote, they were split in half. The only party which voted one hundred percent in one favour, that being against, was the United Nationalist Party. Though this comes to no surprise, they will be willing to vote against anything and everything Soldurs Des and the Democrats put forward in Unitary Parliament as is the quota for the largest opposition anti-union party in Unitary Parliament.

Commissioner Ahina also said that the Carter Act wasn't used since 1992. This is correct. In 1992 the Troubles were happening, with pro independence groups rioting and protesting in the far West and East. These troubles coincided with a troubling home-grown recession which thrown the Union nearly into anarchy. The Alternative Liberal Commissioner James Time put forward the Carter Act to put the military in notice incase of an attempted coup or uprising in one of the states. While this did not happen, it was very close and the situation got worse until in 1995 Montedoran was given a devolved regional parliament instead of direct rule from The Unitary Commission which denied a regional parliament in the past due to scares that it would break up The Union, even though all the rest of the states had a working regional parliament and electoral system for themselves. The Carter Act was scrapped and placed back into submission in 1996 when things started subsiding to the modern day peace that we enjoy today thanks to The Union.

Hart Point Governor, Hon. Gov. Adi Beauchene's Liberal-Progressive Government wins 13th straight election.

Image

Yesterdays election in Hart Point saw that Adi Beauchene won her 13th election which means her government will have a record-breaking 26 straight years if she makes it to the end of this term (2017-2019). She was first elected in 1993 at the age of 31, now that she's 55 her popularity has hit a all time low at 35% but her party still squeaked through with her 1st minority government since she got elected. The Green Party has got just one less seat then her Liberal-Progressives.Many people are thinking that an alliance will happen between the Green Party and the Independent Members of Territorial Assembly Group. If they do make an alliance to block Governor, Beauchene's parties bills for her term or put forward a motion for a vote of no-confidence and it's passed another election will ensue.

Diana on the Road

The Queen Diana Wolff is still on tour around the mainland along with the young prince, Bellami. The entire trip is being done by car and the two have been stopping in cities and towns big and small at random, to the delight of the locals. Diana was last in Short River, Cundas visiting the Short River military base. When asked what she was missing now that she was on tour with her son, she responded by saying, "I do miss kayaking the Short, but having my Bel along is wonderful. I think he's more popular than me."

Diana refused to comment on any questions regarding the current world state, including the war in Azovaskaya, the Molenston-Bohin crisis and the new development along the Rezuan-Communist Reich border. "I am currently on maternity leave and all questions and comments regarding world politics should be taken to the Rhodeve government, the acting queen and my assistant."

University Treaty signed: Eubatu

Relations with the Commonwealth country of Eubatu have always been spotty. The tiny island nation is home to less than 1 million people and one of Sunalaya's only technocracies. Acting Queen, the Princess Heir Sierra Everen-Abrams spent the last two weeks in Eubatu meeting with the various Eubatian councils in order to sign a military arms treaty dubbed the University Treaty. This proposed treaty has been debated off and on for the past year by various members of parliament, always being slowed down by those in Eubatu who do not wish to increase trade with Rhodevus.

But finally, the treaty was signed, with the added clause that it will be renegotiated in two years depending on the success or failure of the treaty. Mss. Everen-Abrams will be returning to the mainland soon, but will have very little time to herself as she will be thrown right back into meetings with national and international leaders.

Konetya Missions Expanded

Today will mark the departure of the final four supply missions to Konetya in Operation Blackwing. The Rhodeve government passed an extension bill which will increase the number of supply missions to Konetya from 17 to 67 planes.

"The Konetyan aid missions were a massive success. We have sent over tons of food, water, blankets and medical supplies, along with those items donated by the amazing people of this country. These extra 50 supply missions will be a great relief to those starving people people in Konetya as they wage their civil war."

Tanto 1 heading to Molenston

At the request of the Malesti government, the Royal Rhodeve Navy has activated the aircraft carrier, Tanto 1. This carrier is Rhodevus's one and only Maya Angellos class carrier and the largest aircraft carrier in the Rhodeve fleet. The Tanto 1 will be heading to Molenston and act as extra air support in case the Bohin tries another aerial bombing raid on the country again.

C-Day: What to Expect

C-Day is one of the flukes of the Rhodeve election schedule. Standing for Commons-Day, C-Day will see the upcoming election of 185 House of Common seats, 88 Senate seats, both territory governorships and ICR's and Wyle's premierships all on the same day. This accounts for 54% of HoC seats and 72% of senate seats, making it the largest single day election in Rhodevus since 1944.

Currently, the Liberal Party holds a minority control in the Senate, but, working closely with the Environmentalist Party controls half the assembly. The Conservative party holds the official opposition with a quarter of the total seats. It is expected for the conservative party to win a strong minority in the Senate, stealing most of its seats from the Liberal, Royalist and Imperialist Parties.

In the HoC, the Liberals control nearly half the total seats, again with the conservative party as the official opposition. It is expected for the Liberals to lose seats, but it is predicted that they will still retain leading control of the house.

Unsurprisingly, both territory governships are predicted to go to the Environmentalist Party whom have had near unanimous control of the governor council and territory-wide support since 1960.

The final positions up for grabs is the Premierships of the Imperial City of Rhode and Wyle, which is currently in the hands of the Conservative and Royalist Parties respectively. It is expected for the Royalists to lose their hold on the premierships to the Conservative Party, whom have been gaining support in the province.

BREAKING NEWS: The Communist Reich expresses frustration towards the Empire of Rezua, the United Soviet Jason Republic, and the Azovskayan Civil War
What was supposed to be Chancellor Maxis' Sunday Press Conference has turned into a harsh government response, not only towards the Empire of Rezua, but also towards the Communist Reich's longtime ally, the United Soviet Jason Republic. Having maintained a stance of relatively uninterrupted neutrality for nearly two years after the Summer War, the Communist Reich of Kiez has found it's stance of international neutrality under fire due to the ongoing Konetyan Independence War, a conflict that has seen the involvement of the United Soviet Jason Republic, and most recently, the Empire of Rezua. In an emergency session of the Reichstag called to order by Premier Richtofen himself outrage over not only the Azovskayan Civil War itself was voiced, but also the involvement of the United Soviet Jason Republic and the Rezuan Empire and the blatant inability for either side to come to a diplomatic and peaceful resolution.

"Far too much blood has been spilled on our soil, ranging from the Summer War that was waged primarily between a Joint Task Force of Reichian and Republican Forces against the Empire of Rezua, but also the Attempted Coup of 2016, a conflict that resulted in the spilling of blood not against foreigners, but against our own citizens." Premier Richtofen said to his colleagues within the Reichstag. "Since the Attempted Coup of 2016, the Reich has tried to maintain a stance of neutrality while we embark on a long road to recovery over our blood being spilled in the streets of our own cities and now today, we find our neutrality at risk, not by the cause of the Empire of Rezua nor the United Soviet Jason Republic, but rather over the ongoing Azovskayan Civil War. I swore an oath to the people of Kiez, promising I would serve not by my own agenda, but rather serve faithfully the will of the people and protect the sovereignty of the Communist Reich of Kiez, I will not put the interests of other nations, even if they are our allies ahead of the interests of my people."

"In the interests of the people of the Communist Reich of Kiez, I, Premier Edward Richtofen will not let this threat of our nation's neutrality be tolerated, and with the support of my administration will be enacting the following: A nationwide moratorium on all foreign military traffic in and around the territories Communist Reich shall be implemented in accordance with the Emergency Legislation Act. Secondly, the borders of both the Eastern and Western quadrants of Kiez shall be reinforced by 300 army personnel and managed accordingly by a Joint Initiative managed by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Defense. We would like to take this time in reiterating that this nationwide moratorium affects only the travel of foreign military units both inside and outside of our country, civilian and dignitary movements will not be affected by this decree. In order to further express our frustration with the Azovskayan Civil War, we are formally issuing a request to the Azovskayan Union and the Empire of Pantorrum to find a reasonable and diplomatic way to end this paralyzing conflict." In what then appeared to be in response to Premier Richtofen's statement, the movement of numerous military units from bases nearest to the Eastern and Western Borders of the Country had been announced by members of the Ministry of Defense, who cited that these orders had been issued directly from high level officials within the Ministry of Defense as well as officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In Other News:
- Chancellor Maxis' Press Conference delayed until further notice.
- Members of the Ophion Unification Party express concern with Premier Richtofen's statement: Believes it may impede relations with the USJR.

Left: Kdradski at the FUP celebration Right: Results of the FUP Primaries

The end of the FUP Primary resulting in a stunning upset and big victory for outsider businessman Andzrej Kdradski, especially against Prime Minister Haley Hovena who came in second and barely beat Kdradski, even with the polls showing her in the lead. He has announced that his Vice-Presidential candidate will be Karl Gorshnakoff, and Prime Minister candidate will be a anti-establishment Representative Svetlana Panachenko, a anti-establishment PM candidate is rare, last time this happened was over 40 years ago. Kdradski on stage at the FUP celebration burnt a flag with a sickle and hammer on it, this has caused anger from the prolotariat party. The Liberal party's Gregoria Sevlov has been chosen as their candidate and has won the LRP primaries yesterday. The race this year is way tighter and could possibly go both ways, but Kdradski is in the lead over the LRP candidate as of today.

General Election Polls:
Kdradski: 44%
Sevlov: 41%
Rushmochenko: 13%
Ugiochenko: 1%
Others: 1%

Former President Mélior Vîttá Disowns The North From The Civil War: Past Sunrisian Leader Says The Republic Was Already Dead Back Then

Image

In an exclusive interview to SBN24, the last President of the First Republic Mélior Vîttá shared his viewpoint on the historical events that led to what many call the Sunrisian Civil War. This fragment consists entirely of the former President’s answers to the interviewer’s questions:

The mindset that I had at the time was based on ideology. When our administration was overthrown, it was more than just a change in government. It was a reformation of Sunrisia into a whole different country. Absolute Democracy, as it was called, replaced the Republic. I and my affiliates, as patriots, thought that we were doing what we had to do – save our country. I gave an oath to the Republic of Sunrisia, when I came into office and that was the country that I, as a patriot, saw as my homeland. I was ready to fight in order to secure our Republic, the one that Sunrisians established after peacefully transitioning from a monarchy. Absolute Democracy tried to forcefully bring us back to the past with a coup, in fact, not even bringing back the monarchy, but instead creating a theocracy. As the elected national leader, I was willing to lead the battle for the country that many people at the time already saw as their homeland. The Kingdom was left in the past and the theocratic Absolute Democracy would have only been an imitator, but not a true successor or restoration of the old monarchy. That is the judgment I made at the time, based on what I saw the Absolute Democracy “revolutionaries” doing and the country they were building on the ashes of the Republic.

The nation was already divided, even before the actual physical partition of our land happened. The revolutionary changes were received differently in Sunrisia. Many were excited to welcome the original country back, because they indeed thought that the Absolute Democracy was going to be a successor to the Kingdom, with contemporary touches. People were afraid that “westernization” was coming and that’s what Sunrisia’s foreign policy was hinting towards through closer cooperation with Dogmanan and Ventismarien states. That is why Sunrisians were willing to fight, in order to stop this course. They wanted to secure our culture, our customs, our traditions, our way of life. They saw the Absolute Democracy as the new theocratic system that seemed like it was going to blend elements from the Kingdom and the Republic in a perfect combination. Sunrisia would have an absolute divine ruler in a form of the Supreme Leader again, instead of a King, yet, we would also have a Prime Minister to lead the government, one that we would continue to elect. I think that the visual fact of the Absolute Democracy bringing back Sunrisia’s original platinum-colored flag with 3 suns, as our national flag again, also psychologically had an impact on a lot of people, because that was the flag of the Kingdom. For those that missed the Kingdom and thought that a contemporary democratic system was not working, it really did seem like the golden age of history was coming back in a new form. Not all Sunrisians were for the Republic, which is why I knew that not everyone would support me. It indeed seemed like the nation was split down the middle. However, for us “Republicans”, who did not support the Absolute Democracy and for our followers, it was crucial to prevent the new leadership from eliminating all the remaining traits of the Republic. Even if we were not going to resume the fight for control again, we at least tried to keep the old system alive in at least some parts of the country. Sure, it might have been simpler to go into exile abroad, like in Creperia, but we were not cowards. We wanted to stand our ground till the end.

We all know what happened next. A contingent of the Sunrisian army broke away in support of our old pro-Republic government, Creperian troops secretly swooped in across the border to help us and all of us together held our ground long enough for the cease-fire to start. The people of Sunrisia then chose peace over ideology and decided to seek the ultimate compromise – split the country equally in half, with the North being led by one system and the South by another. All of that quickly turned into a complete fiasco. Both South Sunrisia and North Sunrisia still wanted to absorb each other and reunify the country under their own governance. Both saw themselves as the successor of Sunrisia, at least the governments did, because the people knew the actual truth. I hoped that North Sunrisia would at least be the successor of the old Republic, because that was what we intended by creating it. I and my old followers sought that with the North’s inception, but our dreams failed. I was only an interim leader at the time, but my successors then showed that North, like the South, was not the same as what Sunrisia was. Both, the North and the South were two completely different countries, with neither resembling our past homeland. However, our people still secured our divine values, which cannot be removed from Sunrisian mindset in any way. Both, the North and the South still did fight to save lives overseas and battled evil ideologies, but that was probably the only positive thing left over from united Sunrisia. Everything else was completely different. So of course, I was very disappointed in the situation and condemned both the North, which we helped to create as an intended, but failed successor of the Republic, and the South, which presented itself as the successor of the Kingdom. In reality, not only were neither of the two new states successors of the Republic or the Kingdom, but they were not even the successors of Sunrisia.

So of course, when the day came, I stood with millions of our people on the streets and demanded to put an end to North Sunrisia and South Sunrisia and simply bring back united and true Sunrisia in any form. We also felt like the Sunrisian fight for our homeland was more special, because we still had foreign forces occupying our land and we also had two leaderships in the North and the South that threatened nuclear apocalypse. We were fighting for ourselves and for the world, is what we felt, which is why our spirits were only burning much more and we were not willing to surrender. We won. All these centuries of struggles against internal and foreign enemies and our country is still here today. We were broken in half, which practically signaled our destruction and yet we are here once again, same as we were before. The country that we had built, was reborn from the ashes.

I don’t want to outright condemn those that fought for Absolute Democracy. I believe that those Sunrisians considered themselves patriots as well and they fought for what they thought was right. On our side, we fought for what we thought was right. I just want to thank the Sunrisian people for being so nice to me. I was never called a traitor, but I was also never called a rebel, who resisted what many called a revolution at the time. I am also glad that I am not associated with the North, because when the moment came, I wanted proved that my allegiance was no longer to any particular form of government or ideology, but to our country, which did not exist anymore and we wanted to bring back together. If I could make an analogy from nature, the Democratic Union was the cocoon, but the Second Republic is the beautiful butterfly.

BREAKING NEWS 13:00: St. Paulsburg- After days of small protests by a medium sized group of citizens, clashes have started with police officers. After an attempt was made to clear the Winter Palace Square, protesters erected barricades with cars over several main bridges in the city and nearby streets. Due to the location of the Republic's Naval Office and Army offices, the police made a firm effort to dislodge the protesters with water cannons and riot police. It appears that several small protests in other communities were also responded to by police. In total, roughly one hundred people have been arrested for illegal demonstrations and resisting arrest. President Mortimer has denounced the protests, which spoke out against the slow economy of the USJR and corruption.

The Election Cycle of C-Day has begun

Today saw the first campaign advertisement in the Imperial City of Rhode for the Imperial Premiership. This first ad of the election cycle comes from the Royalist Party candidate Ivan Bronson promising to create completely free education as well as reduce military and police spending. These three campaign promises are staples of the Royalist Party along with increased welfare spending. Ivan Bronson was the previous Royalist candidate in last season’s election as well. Of the five primary parties, Mr. Bronson and the Royalists have the farthest to go, as they have a tendency to rank last among the voters in the ICR. Last election saw the Royalists only hold 2% of the popular vote.

Other candidates include Maria Swantina, representing the Imperialist Party for the first time. Ms. Swantina is the daughter of an Aznazian Immigrant and Eastern Rhodevan Native. Her party’s primary focus is to greatly increase medical, military and police spending and completely overhauling the infrastructure in the province. All these issues sit well with Imperial voters, but the Yellow Party’s tendency to try and decrease welfare and remove environmental agencies and greenspace places them in a negative light. They are however, holding a 15% of the popular vote since last election, thanks to Maria Swantina’s very outgoing speeches.

Of the Big Three; that is Green, Red and Blue, the Environmentalist Party has seen a dip in public approval following the scandal of its still main candidate, Ashton Brey. Mr Brey had been accused of taking money from the party’s received donations. Although he has been acquitted of all charges, the scandal is still fresh in the public’s mind. Just like the name suggests, the Green Party wishes to increase environmental spending in the Province, increase parks and green spaces as well as cut down the use of oil and production of coal. They sit at a 24% favourability among Imperial voters.

The Liberal Party is the official opposition in the ICR with 25% of current public support. They are still campaigning under the promise to lower taxes and completely overhauling the healthcare system in the province. The lead candidate is Ania Tanner, who is once again representing the party and has been for the last two election cycles.

The current Imperial Premier, is His Humble Leader, Lord Benjamin Butang, Ketua of Laaban, Premier of the Imperial City of Rhode, High Magistrate, Consul to the Queen, Imperial Adviser to the Queen and Imperial Chief of the Southern Tribes. The full title of the Imperial Premier is so rarely used that most forget about it. Mr. Butang is the current premier, representing the Conservative Party in the province. With a current support of about 34%, they rank the highest in public support of the major parties. Mr. Butang has already said that following the election he will be stepping down from politics and retiring, having served the province and country for 40 years in various positions. Taking his place is Edwin Buoecen, the up and coming leader of the conservative party in the ICR. He plans to continue with many of his predecessor’s policies, including expanding the green energy initiative and corporation promotion, but also plans to slightly boost military and police spending. Mr. Buoecen has said to the conservative party that he hopes to revamp the ICR highway infrastructure during his potential term.

In Wyle, the political situation is much simpler, with far less people to worry about and a Royalist premier who has been losing ground to the conservative party for the last year. The environmentalist party has seen minor growth in the province while all three of the Imperialist, Royalist and Liberal parties have seen a decline

West Corentia And Ophion: Will State Mergers Still Happen In The Future?

Image

Sunrisian historians and political analysts have taken a joint interest in the topic of state mergers. In their analysis, they have taken two examples of sovereign confederations, which were West Corentia and Ophion. The former was a developing state merger of Sunrisia, Creperia and Edereon, while the latter was a state merger of the United Soviet Jason Republic, the Communist Reich of Kiez and a number of Ophionite countries. The former existed briefly as it did not fully complete its formation, because Sunrisia backed out and others soon followed as well, while the latter was successful in its full formation and integration, yet also did not exist as long as sovereign states usually do. Historians are taking a look at the large historical picture that has developed over Sunalaya’s entire evolution so far, while political analysts are looking at the perspectives of the future. Bringing their joint observations together from different angles, they are forming their own interesting new image.

The conclusion that many historians and political analysts make is that state mergers are definitely not the thing of the past, though free-willed state mergers have not been too common in history either. Many countries, nations and cultures will still naturally want to secure their sovereignty to the maximum. Whether more state mergers should be seen in the near future remains doubtful, according to the joint conclusion of the experts. In regards to West Corentia and Ophion, and whether these unions of different countries might be reborn in the future, historians and political analysts say that they should not be perceived from a long-term perspective. Instead, they encourage not to speculate with the sensitive sovereignty subject, even if these speculations are not ill-intended, but are simple historical and political analysis. Other than West Corentia and Ophion as examples, historians and political analysts have also proposed taking a look at the current Commonwealths of different countries as possible future state mergers. However, they had also similarly suggested not to speculate on the topic too much, for the same reasons. One Sunrisian political analyst, who also lectures in one of Lucera’s universities, said the following:

Sunrisia, Creperia and Edereon remain the closest of allies and neighbors, yet, we are still different nations and cultures, which is why we stopped and reversed the integration process into West Corentia. Based solely on the political relations and even interactions between our people, it might seem that united West Corentia was entirely possible, however, our final choice was not to merge after all. Despite what the situation seems to be on the outside, that key historical choice immediately reverses all doubts a 180 degrees. Our nations want to live as neighbors in our own nation states and that is perfectly natural and even beautiful in its own sense.

In terms of Ophion, I think an identical situation is there, yet it currently does not seem like there would be as many Ophionite countries willing to unite, as before, since many of them went separate ways or withdrew from the world’s attention and much international activity. The USJR and the Communist Reich of Kiez still remain close partners, yet, their relations are currently in a new phase as well from what it seems, and the USJR is internally going through some sort of a political and ideological transformation. That does not really conclude anything, because talks of the united sovereign state of Ophion coming back, have been heard many times before, although not necessarily on an official level.

The situation with the Commonwealths around the world is also interesting, since they as well seem to be formations that are only steps away from transforming into large new united sovereign states stretching across oceans and continents. The fact that they are usually united culturally and historically, really leaves that possibility open. But, Commonwealths have also served in some cases, as alternatives to state mergers, where countries can integrate as separate sovereign entities and create a united formation, but retain their statehood. The hegemony question in these kind of situations is a whole different story on its own. In terms of state mergers, you can never really know it with the Commonwealths, since they really seem to be half-way from either of the two extremes – retaining separate statehood on one side and merging into one union state on the other.

Again, there is no definitive yes or no answer and the conclusion I make, along with many of my colleagues around the country and abroad, is that history is going to be taking the course that it needs to take and we should not be trying to make a blue print for it, at least not in these kind of questions.

Belantica Signs Suijin Accords To Build Relations With The UST
A few days ago before departing on a much needed holiday to Eubatu with her wife, Queen Karen met with Aina Miyako, a representative sent from the United States of the Tao to officially sign the Suijin Accrods. These were passed by Parliament almost unanimously with slight opposition from more isolationist MPs. These accords are set to build a stronger bond between the two nations, and make trading between the wteo much easier and quicker. Many believe this will help both nations in the long run. The Accords were signed by the queen in the the city of Niishiba, which has been long known to be one of the earliest known colonies, and believed that it was settled by a group of ronin, their families, and other migrants back in the early 1600's, making it a prominent Japanese community outside of their native lands, and somehow, it lasted despite the constant figthing between colonial powers and natives during that time in Belantica's history. Many say this is a way to show friendship between the two nations, especially in uncertain times.

Princess Cindy To Serve As Queen While Her Sister Is On Her Honeymoon
Today, as the queen and her recently wedded wife departed on their honeymoon, Princess Cindy has been appointed to serve as "Acting Queen" for the duration of the couple's travels. It is expected that Princess Cindy will serve as the head of state for the next month, and plans to continue with the policies put in place by her sister. It is known that Cindy will also be given training while on the job to effectivley lead the Royal States in her sister's absence, and is taking courses on military leadership in the very unlikely event of the nation being attacked. What's more is that Princess Cindy said that she will continue to "honor our alliances" with Belantica's allies. She also mentioned the Azvoskayan situation, which is "basically a unorganized mess with those involved acting like chickens with their heads chopped off" and stated that she will do her best to keep Belantic involvement at a minimum. Some wonder why the queen chose her twin, a scientist, to run Belantica in her absence, but the queen said that "She has the same blood that runs through me, and even though we went down different paths, we know it's important to look after each other, and I can say that I can trust her more than most people to fill in for me while I'm gone."

Central Artery Expressway To Be Toll-Free By Late September
The Belantic Expressway Agency, commonly known as BEXA, released a report today stating that now, after 25 years of the Central Artery Expressway (E1) being fully paid for, that the toll barriers will be removed from all sections of the E1. This process will involve the reconstruction of several junctions along the route, as new plazas need to be put into place where he E1 connects with other expressways, and more efficient junctions with untolled highways. This process is expected to last until late September, when BEXA stated that tolling along the E1 will be ended. As a result, BEXA is reducing rates for travelers on the E1 to compensate for delays due to construction and traffic pattern changes, as well as speed limits that have been put in place for the time being to ensure the safety of workers along the route. The E1 is the oldest expressway in the country, and it takes drivers between the capital region and the Southern Belt, a major center for industry and trade. BEXA also stated that they are planning to make other expressways toll-free over the next few years, as the system is now at a state where it will be paid off within the next two decades. So for now, watch your speed along the E1, as the RHP will be out in force to make sure driver are obeying for the safety of those working to imporve the most famous expressway in the nation.

President Nóv Fáustîtár To Host President William Pearce Of Pantorrum In Aestin: Presidents To Discuss Konetya, Trade And Pantorrum’s MDAA Accession

Image

As President Jackson Perrin of Smoya departs Sunrisia following a productive state visit, President Nóv Fáustîtár is already preparing to host the next foreign leader – President William Pearce of Pantorrum. The two leaders are set to discuss the situation in Konetya and bilateral cooperation in regards to Azovskaya’s civil conflict. Also, the Presidents would discuss trade between Sunrisia and Pantorrum, as well as deals that could be made to develop an economic partnership that will result in correlating economic growth for both nations. Another big topic that is definitely expected to be touched on, is Pantorrum integration path into MDAA. The country resumes its accession path into the alliance, while MDAA member states are in progress of approving a new member. The Sunrisian government has already expressed support for Pantorrum’s membership in MDAA and it is likely that President Fáustîtár will personally reiterate that support to President Pearce in their meeting.

Vesvai‘s Role In The Rhodeve Commonwealth Army (RCA)

Vesvai’s PM Matthew Praeterit continues Aznazia–Rhodevus tour. Right now the Prime Minister is in Rhodevus with a historic trip that symbolizes the Commonwealth unity. Military cooperation among Commonwealth members is especially important in these times and PM believes that supporting the Rhodeve Commonwealth Army (RCA) plays a leading role in that. PM will likely discuss that topic with the leaders of Rhodevus. Vesvai’s individual contribution to RCA is 800 troops for the army, 600 for the navy and 900 for the air forces. Without Vesvai’s input, the RCA still collectively has 10,616 troops in the army, 12,670 in the navy and 4,464 in the air force. PM’s tour is seeing its final days right now and the Head of Government is awaited back in Vesvai from his trip.

Victory in Konetya

Last week, Pantorran forces in Azovskaya scored a reassuring victory against the Union. A Pantorran led coalition, consisting also of Federation and Militia forces, captured 16,000 Union troops. 3,500 union troops lost their lives in the bloodiest battle in decades. 1,100 brave Pantorran men and women gave their own lives in defense of Konetya. The vast majority of casualties were dealt to Militia Forces, who lost 2,100 troops. We will never forget the lives of those who died, and we will honor them in our memories as heroes and defenders of freedom.

The Defense Department has already expressed plans to further its operations in Konetya, with the deployment of nearly 10,000 additional troops over the next week. The Vice President stated in a press conference that the deployment of additional forces has been on the table for some time, and was only recently approved following the victory over Union Forces.

"We have been talking about deploying more troops for the past two weeks, but the President kind of held back the Defense Department on that. He didn't want to risk the lives of Pantorran men and women to enemy aircraft. The decision to deploy additional forces comes only after we have secured the city and much of the air around it. Though enemy aircraft persist in the skies above, we now have reason to believe that the majority of Union Forces are retreating to the city of Sainkt Petersburg. We perceive no risk now, and that is why the deployment will finally be going through."

He would go on to discourage military intervention by other nations, a sharp contrast from early calls by the Administration for more international efforts to help Konetya.

"I urge members of the international community, keep your troops at home with their families. We've fought the only battle that needed to be fought, and we are hopeful that the union will open up to peace negotiations involving the independence of Konetya. If international interests deploy forces in Konetya, we could compromise the efforts to end the war. We fight battles only when they need to be fought, and use diplomacy only when diplomacy can be effective. Before was the time to fight, and the world has missed it. Now is the time to be diplomatic."

The war, from a more political aspect, has finally gained public support. The President, who deployed troops without the consent of Congress, saw his approval ratings fall to an all time low. They bottomed out at 41%, until the resounding victory over Union Forces. A wave of nationalism is now sweeping the nations, and the President has regained considerable ground. In the latest approval polls, the President finds himself back at 52%, while support for the war has climbed to 59%.

Election Update: Conservatives Gaining Ground

With considerable success on foreign policy, the President has regained much of the support he had lost in recent weeks to Liberal Democratic Congressman Williams, who had peaked in the polls at 44%. Last week, polls indicated a 44-44 split between both candidates.

With the switch in public support for the war, President Pearce has regained his lead. Dropping Oil prices, stabilizing markets, and unemployment dropping to 7.8% all helped the President, as well, who has been enjoying the benefits of new found public praise. Poll's put Pearce at 48%, with Williams having dropped to 42%. A large number of undecided voters could easily swing the election in William's favor, and a lot of time remains between now and election day. A lot could change before the President enjoys re-election for his 2nd 3 year term.

Conference in Sunrisia

President Pearce is set to spend the next few days in Sunrisia, discussing a number of key issues with Sunrisian President Nóv Fáustîtár. They are set to negotiate a revolutionary trade deal, which is expected to spur economic prosperity amid stagnant 2% GDP growth in Pantorrum last year. The details of the deal, and what specifics are already set in stone, were not released by the State Department yet.

Another key issue scheduled for discussion is Pantorran accession into the MDAA, or Miraya Defense Assistance Alignment. The inclusion of Pantorrum in the MDAA is expected to greatly increase the alliances viability as a serious international influence. With Pantorran forces and nuclear arsenal dedicated to the mutual defense of pact members, the alliance would gain a considerably powerful member.
Regardless of what Pantorrum would offer from inclusion, we stand to gain much more. Close military connections with dozens of nations around the world would greatly increase international security for Pantorran interests. The alliance helps to level the international playing field, and ensures that Pantorrum would be defended against aggressive attacks from hostile powers.

Perhaps one of the most important discussion topics, the two Presidents are set to talk about Azovskaya, and how the two states could cooperate in securing Konetya and ending the conflict. Despite the Vice President's calls for foreign powers to let the situation run its course, the President seems more than open to the idea of military cooperation with Sunrisia. The Press Secretary spoke at a news conference on the topic early, addressing allegations of a contradiction between the Vice President and President's statements. He seemed to single out Rezua, noting that the Vice President didn't want to call them out himself.

"No, the President and Vice President are not in disagreement. The President is simply open to the idea of Sunrisia helping to end the war with the Union because they have requested to sit down and discuss how we could do it together, as a team effort. They didn't just say they were going to send out troops. In fact, military deployment may not even be on the roster for discussion. They could be discussing efforts to achieve peace without more troops, the media cannot just assume otherwise. To be more pointed, the Vice President wasn't saying we don't want foreign help. He was trying to say, in a nicer way, that Rezua should stay out of the conflict. Their escalation with the USJR would only make our efforts in Azovskaya more difficult."

The meeting with the Sunrisian President will likely be very productive, given the level of agreement on most topics that the two men share. Despite their agreement, the true challenge will rest in getting any deals passed through Congress. The Speaker has already stated that he won't bring a trade deal to vote if he perceives that it will hurt the Pantorran economy.

Modern Equipment testing began

After a rise in tensions between many different nations across the world, the Rangers have looked into upgrading their infantry systems from common bolt action rifles in larger calibers to auto-loading, selective fire assault rifles. Many different small arms have been proposed and tested however two rifles are currently stuck in first place. The X540 and the LVOA rifles the X540 offers standard performance and a cheap price while the LVOA offers great performance but is extremely expensive. As of now the X540 is winning and debates are still ongoing across the nation on whether or not a modernized military is what the country needs. The Manuian Rangers boast a history completely free of foreign deployment and are mostly used serve the public (much like police officers).

Along with this modernization in the military, many pro-industry movements have been organizing around the nation demanding that Manuia shed their former skin of depending on nations for manufactured good and switching to begin to create jobs while building up the nations industry. Around 6% of the nations formerly protected land has been sold to private companies to fulfill their corporate dreams. All of the land sold was formerly reserved for farming but was never used.

A New Record: Tulpen I Fastest Formed Coalition in Lindian History
Artwingen -- After 21 days of negotiations the Liberal Party, Green Progressives and Union of Democrats announced that they had come to an agreement on how to govern the country in the next four years. They announced that they had made compromises concerning economic policies by, quote 'averaging the numbers out'. Minister of Security Armăs Fórtídâ Begins Visit To Lindenholt And Umbrellya: Sunrisian Military Preparing For Drills With Lindian And Umbrelliet Forces

Image

Sunrisian Minister of Security Armăs Fórtídâ has travelled to Ventismar for a dual visit to the countries of Lindenholt and Umbrellya. Lindenholt would be the first country that the Minister would visit, with the specific destination being the nation’s capital Artwingen. The Minister of Security would be the first Sunrisian official from the current administration to meet with the new coalition government of Lindenholt, which is why the visit holds more weight than the common state visit. Minister Fórtídâ and his interactions with the new national leadership of Lindenholt would lay the foundation for the deepening ties between Sunrisia and Lindenholt, with more Sunrisian officials, including the President himself, expected to communicate with the new Lindian government more often from that point on. Personal congratulations and faith in a developing productive Sunrisian–Lindian relationship is what the Minister is definitely expected to talk about, as the representative of official Aestin.

In terms of personal tasks of the Minister of Security in his own field, he is scheduled to meet with the new Prime Minister of Lindenholt, as well as with his Lindian counterpart – the country’s defense minister. Meeting with more officials within the Lindian government is a possibility as well. Security cooperation and Lindenholt’s developing role as a partner state of MDAA are expected to be amongst the biggest topics. In addition to that, Minister Armăs Fórtídâ would visit Sunrisian and Lindian soldiers, who are jointly looking after the Sunrisian missile defense system stationed in Lindenholt. After that, the Sunrisian and Lindian forces would be conducting joint military exercises and war games in Lindenholt, which the Minister of Security would observe along with Lindian officials and colleagues.

After concluding the visit to Lindenholt, the Sunrisian Minister of Security would immediately head to Umbrellya, more specifically to the country’s capital city of Czeskawa. The visit’s schedule and course of progression would practically be identical as in Lindenholt, with Minister Fórtídâ scheduled to meet with the officials of the government of Umbrellya, along with his Umbrelliet counterpart – the country’s defense minister, as well as visit the Sunrisian and Umbrelliet troops jointly looking after the Sunrisian missile defense system in Umbrellya. Afterwards, Minister Armăs Fórtídâ would observe joint Sunrisian–Umbrelliet drills in Umbrellya, as well as visit the headquarters of the Sunrisian Ventismarien Command (SUNVENCOM) based in Umbrellya and also responsible for all Sunrisian military operations on the continent of Ventismar.

Tulpen: The Pergen Confederation is a Threat to Ventismar

Image

Artwingen -- In a surprise press conference this morning at the Lindian States General Building the prime minister, Jasper Tulpen, announced that after negotiations with his D'Fleuvien counterpart and after a parliamentary debate last Friday the government has decided to send a part of the Royal Lindian Armed Forces towards the D'Fleuvien-Pergen border to preform security duties in the border area.

The size of the force being sent is not known, however eyewitnesses report that on the A19 highway there was a large amount of Allentyrian made Lindian Rasmussen tanks and CV-2000 armoured personnel carriers heading in the direction of D'Fleuves. Furthermore, troops close to the Lindian-Fleuvien border were reportedly put on high alert, and extra preparations were made to dispatch a larger force on a moment's notice.

The website of the Lindian ministry of defence has stated that reservists, soldiers on leave and conscripts would not be called for duty, as the deployment of troops is merely a defensive measure at this point.

In the press conference prime minister Tulpen said:

'Terrorist organisations such as the Confederation should not be in control of the border areas of the Ventismar Union, and as a member state of the VU we find that it is our duty to protect our fellow members, and to protect the peace on our continent. Active combat along our borders is unacceptable, and we will do our best to make combat cease along the Fleuvien border with all the means that are available to us. I have spoken with my colleagues in D'Fleuves and we have both promised each other that we will stand against atrocities happening right in front of our noses.'

The new policy on Pergen by the Lindian government is not surprising. During the cabinet's formation period Liberal Party MPs urged the previous cabinet to do something about the situation in order to secure the VU's borders and to follow the example of the Umbrelliet government, who erected a fence on their border with Pergen earlier in this year.

It is assumed that one of the compromises the Union of Democrats and the Green Progressives had to make in order to form a cabinet was to allow Lindenholt to get involved in the Pergen conflict. This theory is further legitimised by the fact that after the press conference party leaders of the coalition partners both stated to be supportive of Tulpen's actions concerning Pergen, even though the UD and GP had campaigned with the promise to only play a humanitarian role in the conflict.

Whether troops will be deployed on the Umbrelliet and Felsinean parts of Pergen's borders or if other countries will join the operation remains unclear.
