Franta, Feylara- On May 16th Shastara Party leaders and hundreds of native Shastarans marched on the Feylara state Capitol in Franta in a peaceful march protesting the results of last weeks state elections that Shastara Party leaders have claimed were rigged against them. The protest turned violent when police officers armed with fire hoses and batons pushed the crowd back and arrested roughly 350 people. First Minister Gordon Glendall has said
“I am stunned and disgusted in the way that the Feylara state government handled the situation. In this day and age treatment of anybody like this is unacceptable.”
Feylara State Minister David Henderson claims that the protesters were blocking the stairs to the Capitol and refused to move and were verbally harassing state employees entering and leaving the buildings main enterance. The claims were not unfounded as there were reports that the protesters refused to relocate to the park across the street and were planting themselves in traffic and were indeed harassing pedestrians in the area. However most people can agree the police brutality was far from needed in this instance. This is just the latest in a new surge of racism against Native Shastans whom make up about 30% of the population and there are concerns that violance may continue to escalate, especially in Feylara and Centrallia where race relations have historically been tenuous at best.
