A historic change takes place in Creperia, as the nation shows its’ acceptance of LGBT communities as equal members of the common nation within the free world, following a national referendum on same-sex marriage

History has been made in Creperia today. With the results of the recently-held national referendum on same-sex marriage having been revealed and 84% of registered voters having chosen the “Yes” option, Creperia would officially be legalizing same-sex marriage. The very moment when the results were revealed and broadcast live across the nation and even the world, it has caused a country-wide euphoria, rather than a clash of values, showing that the majority of our people consist of those speaking in favor of equality. Tears of joy and outburst of emotions can still be seen all across Creperia, wherever you go, showing that tonight the long wish of many people in this country has finally become a reality.
With the official outcome of the referendum, the government has taken steps that it had promised to take in case the referendum results with support for same-sex marriage. The Supreme Court has approved the legalization of same-sex unions and recognition of such marriages as newest additions to the Creperian Constitution, while the National Assembly has officially passed a legislation making same-sex marriage legal within the sovereign borders of Creperia, while also giving recognition by the state to those same-sex marriages that took place outside Creperia, as valid in our country. Soon after the revelation of the results, other major political parties and social activist groups did not hesitate or wait long to give their opinions on the outcome of the referendum and this historic change that has occurred in our country.
The Democratic Party, the Reformist Party and the Union Party have all expressed their support and respect for the decision made by the Creperian people and the government’s quick adoption and implementation of laws in accordance with the choice that the society has made. All 3 parties expressed their official recognition of Creperia becoming a country, where same-sex marriage is legal and said that they would respect and protect the new law as the official newest addition to the Constitution. The more conservative Homeland Party and the Socialist Party expressed disagreement with the decision that Creperians had made and further preserved their position that marriage can only be between a man and a woman, however, due to the nation having given the official verdict on the issue via a democratic referendum, the parties have expressed their obligation to comply with the new law and identically protect it as the newest addition to the Constitution. The majority of social activist groups have embraced the outcome and said that Creperia has made a gigantic leap in its’ civil rights progress, while a number of more conservative movements have stated that with respect to same-sex marriage becoming an official law, these groups would speak and fight for the rights of religious freedom and preservation of traditional believes, all in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, amid this historical day in Creperia, President Vidd Āmore has come out in front of the nation and the world for an official address:”Our people have made history here tonight. Fellow Creperians have shown to each other that our nation consists of wonderful people, who all wish the same right of maximum happiness to each other, a right to take everything that each of us is entitled to out of life and live happily together, enjoying our mutual freedom on which this nation has been founded on and continues existing under today. Thanks to you, the people of Creperia, every single person in this country will now have the right to marry whom they love, no matter what gender they are and no matter whether certain portions of society find it legitimate. With today’s change in the course of history of our country, Creperia is only a few steps away from becoming a fully-equal society. Of course, thanks to the emotions caused by tonight’s events, many might say that Creperia has already reached that point, but we all know the saying that there is always room for improvement and that we should never cease the pursuit of perfection, even if it might just sound like a dream sometimes.
To that portion of our society that might not agree with what has happened tonight, I want to say that this reformation in the way our community functions does not mean that traditional values will be neglected. Sure, our values are changing with time, but it is not our pursuit to forcefully persuade our citizens to adopt a certain set of new values, even if they do not believe in them. As I said, our focus is to create an equal society, where all ideas and beliefs can prosper and coexist, without one being suppressed or neglected in favor of the other. Sure, the idea of creating a fully-equal society might not entirely sound realistic, as there are incompatible views within society that cannot be implemented jointly into our system and only one straight path can be chosen, however, that is exactly why our government will continue working hard to make sure that any and all rights of all citizens are preserved and can coexist within our truly free and democratic community.
The reality is that these changing values still exist as a form of radical ideas in certain parts of the world and the preservationists of traditional values develop a conspiring view that these social changes are directed against traditions. I can’t speak for other parts of Sunalaya, but as President of this country, I can only say that it is not the case in Creperia. These social changes are not a form of direction which we are trying to implement, but rather a form of tools that we are trying to give our citizens, so that each of them may freely go their own direction without restrictions. To put it more simply, by legalizing same-sex marriage, we are not trying to forcefully propagate any type of lifestyle among our citizens, but rather get rid of any social restrictions that prohibit certain parts of our society from leading their life the way they want to. This law does not mean that our goal is to make homosexual families replace the traditional families, but rather show that they can coexist and that is what our society knows and wants and thus has demonstrated it by making the choice that they did in this referendum.
Arguments may still arise that by adopting such a law, Creperia as a nation is going against what the Greater Force has been teaching us, but if we look back at those teachings, we were also taught that we are not in a position to judge, only the Greater Force did. Therefore, by having laws restricting people from living their lives any way they want as long as it does not harm anybody around them, is a form of judgement, which we are not in a position to make. Therefore, if we look from a more traditional perspective, our nation has on a contrary taken a right step and removed all boundaries, giving every individual the right to live his or her life the way they want to as long as it does not harm anyone, without fear of judgement, which we are not in a position to give. We must remember that the Greater Force loves all of its’ creations and encourages us to love and respect each other and embrace the fact that we are all free spirits, that can only be guided, but cannot be lead down a certain path by force. And even then, no matter what path that free spirit goes, the Greater Force remains by the side of each of us, no matter what kind of people we are.
In conclusion, if there is still anyone out there, who might still not entirely believe of what has taken place here tonight and whether it is a reality, I think that it is better for them to hear this one more time from the words of the President. Following the results of the official referendum on same-sex marriage, where 84% of registered voters have spoken in favor of its’ legalization, the Supreme Court has approved a legislation enacting and recognizing same-sex unions as official equal-status marriages and making the new law an official newest addition to the national Constitution. This was followed by the final vote within the National Assembly, where an identical law was passed with a majority, borderline unanimous votes, making same-sex marriages legal and valid within the sovereign territory of the Democratic Republic of Creperia, including both – marriages that took place in Creperia and outside the country, in such sovereign states, where identical laws are in place. It might sound like a cliché comment or a cheesy comment, but I will end by saying that love has prevailed tonight and true love is what helped us reach this point. Thank you.”
