NEW VESVAI BROADCASTING
The National Renewal (NR) party is still in the lead in the opinion polls. The NR party was founded and is led by Adi Letago who was the leader of the protests that had escalated into the Silver Revolution and overthrew the previous AIT-led government. Letago was also the one who coined the term: “Silver Revolution.” Letago declared the Silver Revolution in New Vesvai after the collapse of talks between him, his followers and the government at the time. Adi Letago is currently the most popular person in New Vesvai as a politician and just an individual so experts are predicting big wins for him. Letago was not a politician but rather a member of the worlds of journalism and the arts. He became a politician after the Silver Revolution when he founded the NR party to run in this general election. The NR party is also called: “The Party of the Revolution.”
The opponents not far behind the NR party in the polls are the Break Out Alliance (BOA). It is a political alliance of two political parties in New Vesvai: the Nationalist Bloc (NB) and the Pro-Independence Coalition (PIC). Both parties are of nationalist views and have been in the opposition during the reign of the AIT coalition before the revolution. The Nationalist Bloc (NB), the Pro-Independence Coalition (PIC) and the United Conservatives (UC) were behind the idea of New Vesvai building a modernized border wall to secure itself from the Dominion of Vesvai. The project gained much public support over time and is expected to gain even more after the recent war. NB, PIC and UC parties have also been part of the current transitional government in New Vesvai which is formed out of opposition parties after the AIT governing coalition was deposed. The transitional government has been seen as doing a good job at leading New Vesvai through its transitional period after the revolution and also effectively handling the war with the Dominion of Vesvai and its allies. All these accomplishments have boosted the ratings of the NB, PIC and UC parties. But only NB and PIC have formed the Break Out Alliance without UC. The party of United Conservatives has been seen as a good political ally by NB and PIC. But both parties felt that the United Conservatives (as the name suggests) holds too “old-fashioned conservative” views for the tastes of NB and PIC. That is why UC was not invited to join the Break Out Alliance. The United Conservatives have been left to run on their own but opinion polls show that the party has been doing very well in the opinion polls. The UC party is in the third place behind NR and BOA at the moment.
The United Conservatives (UC) have outrun the Democratic Progressives (DP) who had fallen to the fourth place according to opinion polls. At first UC and DP parties were wrestling for third place by a small margin and kept pushing each other back and forth from third place to fourth and vice versa. Now UC is in the third place on stable ground. The left-leaning People’s Power Party (PPP) is in fifth place and has not really been moving higher than that in any polls. New Vesvai’s branch of the Vesvaian Homeland Union (VHU) (Vesvaian Homeland Union (VHU) is the ruling majority-holding party in the Dominion of Vesvai) remains at the bottom of the list in all major opinion polls holding sixth place. The AIT coalition is not participating in this general election because since being deposed in the Silver Revolution the coalition has dissolved itself into separate parties that it was made up of. Neither of those parties have decided to participate in the general election either and the vast majority of their members have fled New Vesvai for probable asylum abroad. It’s hard to say if the parties themselves even still exist and maybe operate from abroad. There have been no news on their further status. New Vesvai’s branch of AIT was the last branch of the coalition after AIT in the Dominion of Vesvai (which was in the opposition in that nation) dissolved itself earlier. The parties that made up the Dominion’s branch of AIT settled their differences with the Dominion’s government and now are seen as systemic opposition loyal to the government in the neighboring state.
There was pressure to forcefully reincorporate New Vesvai into the Dominion of Vesvai and get rid of the whole “One State, Two Systems” structure. The biggest advocate of stripping New Vesvai of its self-governance and practically destroying it was Vesvai’s Governor-General Andrew Gaileta who is still in office today. The rest of Vesvai’s government was also not to pleased with the existence of New Vesvai as “parallel Vesvai” to the Dominion of Vesvai. New Vesvai was seen as a twisted mirror image of the Dominion and a demonstration of what all of Vesvai could be. New Vesvai which was free and democratic was a polar opposite of the Dominion of Vesvai which was becoming increasingly authoritarian and today is a one-party dictatorship. New Vesvai was setting a bad example for the rest of the island and threatened the uncontested power of Vesvai’s government. New Vesvai itself did not deny that it was positioning itself as the “correct Vesvai” and a symbol of hope for all Vesvaians. Cold breeze and military pressure were constantly being projected towards New Vesvai from the center.
Feeling threatened New Vesvai held an independent general election outside of the law of the Dominion of Vesvai. The now-infamous and no-longer-existing Alliance for Independent Tomorrow (AIT) coalition won at that time. It was the primary opposition force in all of the Dominion of Vesvai. The new government with AIT the governing coalition holding a majority then declared an independence referendum. The referendum passed with 52% in favor of independence and 48% against independence. New Vesvai declared independence the next day. The new sovereign nation was prepared that the Dominion might somehow react including with military force but the Vesvaian Revolutionary Army stood ready to defend. Fortunately the worst possible scenario did not happen but it does not seem like the Dominion of Vesvai has accepted the new reality to this day.
The AIT governing coalition that led New Vesvai’s first independent government were seen as Independence Pioneers and the Founding Fathers. But the AIT coalition eventually betrayed New Vesvai’s government with its own inhumane, self-fishing and power-grabbing schemes. The citizens of New Vesvai rose up all across the nation and ousted the AIT-led government in what became known as the peaceful Silver Revolution. Today in a new landmark in New Vesvai’s short history the citizens will elected the first democratically elected government (a revolutionary government) in the first general election since the Silver Revolution. Democratic elections and a right to vote for your own government is a right that New Vesvai’s citizens nearly lost to AIT’s scheme but managed to save it through a national uprising.
