President Válîd Sâlúbĕr Congratulates The People Of West Zilveren Berg On Elections: ACREFOR Peacekeepers And “Counter-Radiation” Special Forces Redeployed Under A New Mandate

Image

The historical first democratic elections in the State of West Zilveren Berg have commenced. The people of West Zilveren Berg have finally elected a government they can call their own. Nevertheless, some of the key elections have resulted in a tie among multiple parties, so all hopes are now that the parties which had ended up on top, will be able to form a coalition. That is the moment when the West Zilveren people will truly have a formed government that they can call their own.

The key elections that had ended up in a tie, were the general election and the Senate election. Both of them were aimed at electing the upper house and lower house chambers of the West Zilveren legislature – the House of Representatives and the Senate. In both elections, the same 4 parties have apparently ended up on top and will now have the responsibility of forming legislative part of the government for starters. Those 4 parties that tied the race are – Alliance of New West Zilveren Berg (ANWZB), the Union of National Liberals and National Democrats (UNLND), the National Movement for West Zilveren Progress (NMWZP) and the Alternative Democratic Liberal Party of West Zilveren Berg (ADLPWZB). These 4 parties will now have the responsibility of forming a coalition so that West Zilveren Berg does not have to go through a re-vote, which is not guaranteed to bring different results and which the citizens are not enthusiastic about because of longing for an elected government as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the results of the provincial and municipal elections in West Zilveren Berg are being counted. The result of the provincial elections will have influence on the composition of the Senate, because regional parliaments will appoint a large portion of the Senate officials, whereas the others were elected in the Senate election.

President Válîd Sâlúbĕr congratulated the people of West Zilveren Berg with the very first democratic elections in their country’s history and wished them luck along with a happy, peaceful and prosperous future. The President had also congratulated the leading parties in the West Zilveren elections, referring to the aforementioned 4 parties. Yesterday, during the elections in West Zilveren Berg, President Válîd Sâlúbĕr and Chairman Shou Vedder of the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly of the State of West Zilveren Berg in honor of West Zilveren elections. Today, President Válîd Sâlúbĕr and Chairman Shou Vedder of West Zilveren Berg spoke on the phone again, this time with the President wanting to pay respects to the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly for leading West Zilveren Berg through the transition. President Sâlúbĕr and Chairman Vedder of West Zilveren Berg also discussed the request by the West Zilveren side not to withdraw the so-called “counter-radiation” special forces from West Zilveren Berg, because the Sâlúbĕr administration rushed with the conclusion that the radiation threat has been neutralized. The President responded by saying that Sunrisia was not planning on prematurely ending the counter-radiation and clean-up efforts, rather planning to transfer the work to other military elements. President Válîd Sâlúbĕr and Chairman Shou Vedder of West Zilveren Berg also talked about the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) regarding Sunrisian forces in West Zilveren Berg and how that agreement would further be handled by the Sunrisian government and the newly-elected West Zilveren government when it is formed. For now, the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly, as a provisional authority, still uses its’ interim powers to invite Sunrisian forces in West Zilveren Berg, until the power transfer.

Minister of Security Vírân Spêctér has announced that ACREFOR peacekeepers have returned to West Zilveren Berg in the following day after the West Zilveren elections, this time under the mandate of ACREFOR Mission in West Zilveren Berg (ACREFORMIWZB), which replaces the previous ACREFOR Mission in Zilveren Berg (ACREFORMIZB) to finish what it started and has been doing. Together with the peacekeepers of a new and succeeding ACREFOR mission, the so-called “counter-radiation” special forces are returning to West Zilveren Berg at the request of the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly of the State of West Zilveren Berg. Minister of Security Vírân Spêctér said that he, National Defense Consultant Clîpăs Dépúlsên and the generals of the Sunrisian Defense Force (SDF) have been discussing the potential integration of the so-called “counter-radiation” special forces into the ACREFOR contingent and making them part of the ACREFOR mission, rather than operating separately. National Defense Consultant Clîpăs Dépúlsên said that President Válîd Sâlúbĕr may have to call-up a National Defense Council meeting to discuss a transitional strategy how Sunrisia can help West Zilveren Berg take over the radiation clean-up after time eventually comes to end the current ACREFOR Mission in West Zilveren Berg (ACREFORMIWZB).

Io Touts Strength Prior to Election Day

Jamestown President Io announced several policy initiates prior to the Federation's elections on July 1st. Several of these policies announced by Io seem to take a step back from the free market ideals the former General has touted in the past year. Indeed, several of these initiatives are considered 'hound outs' by capitalist punits. Several political talkshows stated that these policy goals were designed to attract attention to the Ophioneus United Party, which despite polling strongly in recent weeks, is attempting to swell it ranks during the final weeks of the election cycle. Alexander Karev called the policy measures "bribes" for the public, and stated that the Union Coalition supports green policy measures, they seek to promote 'natural economic growth' and not 'fake growth.'

Io stated that he will work with the next National Assembly and Continental Congress to support green initiatives and support the right to "free electricity to family and small businesses." The President continued to explain that he would seek funding to revamp the nation's nuclear power plants, build new power plants, and promote solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. "These sources," the President expressed to reporters "would help bring down the price of electricity, address green house emissions, and in time enable power to be free for families and small businesses." Io added that the government would also promote the construction of electric vehicle chargers around the country.

In addition to electricity, Io stated that access to free, uncensored internet should be deemed a "right for all citizens in the Federation." Indeed, cellular and broadband services has been one of the few industries not privatized by the Federation. Many have speculated that this is due to the former USJR's and Ophion's dependence on the network for continuity of government and networking. The President stated that he would seek funding to upgrade the nation's network to 5G for "all citizens, all over the country," and make it "secure, unlimited, and free for families and businesses."

Many were quick to criticize the plan, suggesting the costs and logistics for making such promises viable. However, Io has stated that he seeks to modernize the country and bring it on par with other nations that have "promoted social good" for longer.

Leading Parties In The Tied General And Senate Elections Already Holding Early Meetings To Negotiate The Formation Of A Governing Coalition

Image

Yesterday, the results of the general and Senate elections were announced and both ended with a tie. The option was to have a re-vote held almost immediately or schedule early elections. Nobody in West Zilveren Berg was too enthusiastic about that idea neither in the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly of the State of West Zilveren Berg and among citizens. Everyone just wanted to finally have the first elected government in the country’s history since its’ proclamation of statehood. Moreover, political scientists, analysts and experts said that early elections so short after the current ones would not doubtfully bring a different result. Everyone opted to go by the result of these elections. The 4 top parties have since been encouraged to negotiate and form the next governing coalition together. The parties have complied.

Leading parties in tied general and Senate elections that are expected to form a governing coalition together:

  • Alliance of New West Zilveren Berg (ANWZB)

  • Union of National Liberals and National Democrats (UNLND)

  • National Movement for West Zilveren Progress (NMWZP)

  • Alternative Democratic Liberal Party of West Zilveren Berg (ADLPWZB)

Today was the first day when members of Alliance of New West Zilveren Berg (ANWZB), Union of National Liberals and National Democrats (UNLND), National Movement for West Zilveren Progress (NMWZP) and Alternative Democratic Liberal Party of West Zilveren Berg (ADLPWZB) have gathered together and held their first meeting in a series of negotiations that would follow. Experts say that if a governing coalition would be formed, then the first democratically-elected government of West Zilveren Berg would be very ideologically diverse, combining democratic values and healthy nationalism in support of sovereignty. That is the conclusion that experts are making based on what kind of parties with what kind of leanings had ended up in the lead and would end up in the new governing coalition. Until the governing coalition and the new government are formed, West Zilveren Berg would remain under the leadership of the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly of the State of West Zilveren Berg.

Premier Mikkelsen On Defensive Over 5 Year Plan Rollback

Premier Mikkelsen has been placed on the defensive in recent days, with a growing camp of critics going after his planned cancellation of the current 5 Year Economic Development Plan. With a number of critical infrastructure projects promised under the previous Maass administration now put on indefinite hold or outright canceled, he's already drawn the ire of plenty of people. Greenhouses that were under construction to alleviate the EUSRs reliance on foreign imports at the supermarket, new roads and rail lines, water filtration and sanitation plants, all have been impacted. And the now out of work workers are justifiably angry at his new policy of shifting public funds towards the rebuilding of the military for a war with the Republic.

"The fact is, people here are tired enough of war." Said Political Commentator. "We're still rebuilding from the first one, and now we're being asked to not only gear up for a new one but go on the offensive. Meanwhile, the infrastructure projects that we were promised, the ones that were supposed to improve our lives, and have in the places they've been completed, have now been canceled to free up further funds to refurbish the army."

And apparently, even the People's National Defense Army isn't looking upon these reforms favorably either. When a full-on riot began in the city of Reschergaad, the Premier ordered the Army into the city to disperse the crowd. Instead, the Army reportedly observed the proceedings but did nothing to intervene. We attempted to reach out to the Army for an interview, but they responded with: "We are not at liberty to discuss the proceedings in the City of Reschergaad at this time. When we have more information, we will make a public announcement." Meanwhile, the riot in Reschergaad continues, and it's reported that similar inklings of unrest are growing in cities across the Socialist Republic.

We shall continue to monitor this situation, and report to you as it develops.

Convet Votes To Legalize Polygamous Marriage In Sunrisia Nationwide, Effective From July 1

LIVE BROADCAST

Image

Pride flag of Polyamory

The Convet of the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia has obliged with the second ruling of the Superior Court of the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia on polygamy. The second ruling reaffirmed that polygamy does not come into conflict with the Civil Code and with the Constitution of the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia. The first ruling came to this conclusion the first time around and soon led to the Convet legalizing polygamous unions/partnerships in Sunrisia to an identical level as 2-person marriages when it came to rights, however, marriage practice had not yet been legalized at that time. Sunrisia only legally recognized and gave rights to those in a polygamous marriage/union, who might have married in a country, where polygamy is in practice, like in some parts of the Islamic world. On the territory of Sunrisia, polygamy in civil unions or in marriage had not yet been legally practiced, even with the recognition.

Following the second ruling by the Superior Court, which again concluded that polygamy does not come into conflict with the Civil Code and with the Constitution of the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia, the Convet has taken note. Today, lawmakers had finally gathered to make the move and put the debate to rest. With a majority in favor, the Convet has passed a law legalizing polygamous marriage nationwide in Sunrisia. After Speaker of the Convet Prémăs Dîcéra announced the passage of the law and displayed the results, the lawmakers respectfully applauded. The minority that voted against legalizing polygamous marriage in Sunrisia, were opposition Conservatives, who say that they support a traditional 2-person union, while learning to accept the LGBTQ+ rights. With legalization of polygamous marriage by the Convet, the bill would now have to travel to the desk of President Válîd Sâlúbĕr to be signed into law. The President has previously stated that he is a supporter of polygamous marriage being legal in Sunrisia, therefore, there is no doubt that the head of state will place his required signature. The legalization of polygamous marriage nationwide in Sunrisia will have an effective date of July 1.

Outside the building of the Convet, pro-polygamy demonstrators an civil rights activists are rejoicing on this historic day in honor of another gigantic leap forward in civil rights. The municipal authority of Orentan is already being contacted to allow a celebration march to be held in the national capital. An identical request is already being sent to other municipal authorities across the country, thus emphasizing the nationwide importance and care for what has occurred in the Convet today.

Abwehr Releases Evidence of DCZR Shoot-Down, as well as Harbouring Wilhelm S. Keitel

Image

Freie Reichsstadt Engelberg, Englean Kaiserreich -- Days after the crash of Imperial Airways Flight 2345, killing 508 passengers and crew, details have emerged from the Abwehr regarding the Democratic Central Ziamban Republic. These details were stated to have been collected over a period of months prior to the crash of Flight 2345, citing requests from concerned individuals immigrating from the nation to Kleinaruscha to investigate. Within the release of information, the Abwehr also provided evidence of the DCZR's involvement within the crash of Flight 2345 through a series of photographs taken by satellites passing over the area as well as photo reconnaissance aircraft dispatched following the incident to the area.

In a press event hosted by Abwehr press manager Oskar Hasselvander, the agency provided its official stance on the Flight 2345 incident. The most surprising portion of the entire press event was the introduction by Mr. Hasselvander, who began the entire event with answering a reporter's question as to if the DCZR was guilty: "They are undoubtedly guilty." Following this statement, Mr. Hasselvander continued through the presentation of various reconnaissance pictures taken from Englean satellites and aircraft before, from, and after the event. These pictures depicted what looked like a vehicle with four missiles prominently present on the top of the machine, which was later identified as a LSDS-4 surface-to-air missile system originating from Librira during the Cold War. In the photographs taken "during" the event, the vehicle was seen raising the missiles into its firing position and then promptly firing nearly 50 seconds later. Mr. Hasselvander stated that "it was obvious" that this vehicle was responsible for the attack on Flight 2345, as it was the "only vehicle within the reconnaissance zone recorded firing its weapons" along with the fact that the vehicle "fired within the period of time known for the LSDS-4 system's missiles to reach their target at 30,000 feet."

Also within the presentation was the discovery by the agency of multiple crimes against humanity by the government of the DCZR, specifically the usage of chemical weapons against its populace. Using similar aerial reconnaissance, Mr. Hasselvander presented the discovery of multiple factories labeled "chemical refinement centres" as well as villages showing "telltale signs" of "large scale weapon usage." Concurrently t agency also presented multiple eyewitness accounts, including one by an unnamed source who stated that one attack by the DCZR government was like "Hell had come to Earth, with the screams of the entire village as the government troops continued to fire without hesitation." Mr. Hasselvander continued with the presentation by stating the primary suspect in the attacks, the notorious wanted General Wilhelm S. Keitel of the "Black Sun" group. General Keitel was a former Kaiserliche Heer special operations commander who was dismissed in late 1993 for reasons of insanity, who later disappeared in the late 1990s. It was discovered in 2015 that General Keitel had indeed created a "world operations" group with many SUNINTERPOL criminals within the organisation. Currently, it is believed by the Abwehr that General Keitel is currently being harboured by the DCZR government as a "sadistic operations commander" charged with heinous crimes against the DCZR populace in order to "combat rebel groups."

Mr. Hasselvander would not respond to questions about the next steps that the Kaiserreich would take in response to these discoveries, stating that he "could not speak for the Imperial Government, only the Abwehr." It is believed that the government will move forward with condemnations against the DCZR, as well as a possible military strike in retaliation for the crash of Flight 2345. Today multiple aircraft at Fliegerhorst Aruscha were spotted conducting military drills, including three Neßerschmidt Ne-707 supersonic bomber aircraft. According to sources on Kleinaruscha, these aircraft will be used in a strike against the DCZR if it is approved by His Imperial Majesty.

Upon questioning, a representative for the Kaiser stated that "His Imperial Majesty has made it clear to his staff and myself that if the DCZR wishes to attempt to hide their crimes and refuse international investigation and justice, then they shall instead receive justice delivered from the Englean armed forces. He has made it clear that the DCZR will not escape the might of the Empire."

Satellite surveillance: Now available to the common man

Image

VAASTERGAAD -- With rumours about a secretive VU missile plan, the whistle blower of those plans being violently arrested and the Missileman allegedly being taken in to custody by Bewind agents rather than regular law enforcement, the Tulpen government has yet an other scandal that they have to either justify or deny.

Several weeks ago the Capslandian tech giant Gigahard released an update for its online map service: gMaps. The update allowed for more frequent updates of Sunalayan satellite imagery that is freely accessible to the public. This lead to the quick growth of an internet based community of arm-chair-explorers. Users of internet forum Sawwit were "exploring" the northwestern part of the Republic of Eikangaard. They found what they first expected to be a construction site in the forests. Imagery that was updated a week later revealed that the construction site had expanded significantly and that two long strips of asphalt were being laid. As the asphalt strips were nowhere near other paved roads, suspicions arose of it being a secret air base.

An Eikangaardi forum user who goes by the onscreen alias of "TheIronArchon" explains he lives approximately 50 kilometres away from the site. His Sawwit post details him going to the construction site to see what it is that's being built. "Once there", he writes, "I expected regular construction workers, but what I found was men in uniforms, military uniforms, with construction helmets on. Army engineers basically. Building what is very clearly a base. Their patches clearly showed Lindian markings." The user referred to a picture album for proof.

If TheIronArchon's account is to be trusted, it seems as though the Lindian military is building an airbase in the Republic of Eikangaard. That Lindenholt and ROE are cooperating militarily is no secret. The South wants to arm themselves against the North, who have made threats of an invasion in the past. The discounted sale of several Allentyrian-made tanks that the Lindian armed forces had no use for, the stationing of a small contingent of troops in the Republic and the recent Kiez-VU diplomatic squabble have made it very obvious as to which side Lindenholt is on. What is unsettling though is that the construction of the base was not announced to the public. According to GreenProgressives MP Fred Gerardsen, the ministry of defence did not even notify parliament. Gerardsen is quoted as saying: "In essence, it's a secret base."

The reason for this secrecy is a guessing game, especially since the ministry of defence has denied the existence of the base when our reporters reached out to them. The MoD consistently claims that the only Lindian operations in Eikangaard are peacekeeping forces stationed around Nentergaad. When asked if Lindenholt had any fighter aircraft in Eikangaard the answer was a simple no. Despite this, the two 800 metre runways being built by Lindian military personnel are clearly meant for the operation of fighter aircraft, as larger aircraft need a longer runway to take off from and land on.

Defence expert Jasper Kleins says that the base is a clear example of a FOB, a forward operating base. His full quote:

Kleins: "Just looking at the satellite imagery, it is clear that this is some sort of large forward operating base. What is typical is that it has been constructed in a matter of days; over the course of two weeks. Usually stuff like this is expensive and doesn't last very long. The asphalt for those runways will crack next winter; especially in an Eikangaardi climate, and by next summer the base will be useless. What this is, is something the military wants to use for the very short term at a very short notice. It could be the military just needed something really quickly so they have time to build a proper base, but it could also be that the short life span of the base is intentional. What I mean is, that it's meant to be used within 6 months."

Interviewer: "So, again, why would anyone build this if it breaks?"

Kleins: "You build this because you need to house your troops and operate your aircraft out of somewhere fast, or because you are going to war and it will be destroyed anyway."

According to Kleins, the type of base that is being built in the Eikangaardi pine forests is something meant to use and discard afterwards. Given the tensions between the VU, Kiez, the ROE and the EUSR, it might even be a hint that Lindenholt is preparing to go to war in Eikangaard. While the consequences of such a war remain unforeseen, the effects of the government's recent secretive behaviour has caused an uproar in Lindian politics. The GreenProgressives had requested a parliamentary inquiry in to the missile plan and Missileman affairs. Those enquiries were turned down however, on the basis of national security. It remains to be seen how the government will deal with this revelation.

Defending Layfet causes tension between Keiz and the VU

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Keiz has been Layfet's oldest current military ally, and ever since the beginning of the Grey Wolf Crisis the two nations have been long time supporters both economically and in terms of defense. The trust between these two nations is unparalleled, proved true that when Layfet retired its feeble 10 missle strong nuclear arsenal, it gave all the bombs to Keiz in 1990. Thus it was only natural that when Sunrisia and Layfet's defense deal fell apart that Keiz would take their place. Since the Sunrisian Nuclear Crisis between 20,000 and 40,000 Keizian troops have been deployed to protect Layfet, her territories, and her 4.3 million citizens. However since the deployment of these troops last month, tensions have arose between Layfet and the Ventismarian Union

Prime Minister: Andrzej Gdańsk of Umbrellya was the first of the VU to give concern followed by the government of Capsland asking Layfet to remove the troops before Layfet finishes siging the final treaty documents on Monday. Layfet has already signalled some compermises to the VU in order to ease the union's leaders minds, including declaring to the United Intelligence Network that Layfet will not spy or report VU/VU member states activities. Other compermises are in the works with the government of Capsland stating that the Capslandian military can take over Keiz's defense obligations. The worry about Keiz is not ill-intentend nor misconstrued as the VU is worried about Keiz due to the tension between the Republic of Eikengaard and the EUSR.

Fortunately, despite the tension, this situation will not prevent Layfet joining the VU but can prevent it from having access to the VU's aid services, especially economic ones that would really help in this current recession. Thus the government has to make a choice. Between it's oldest ally and it's economy, in the meantime - the people suffer. This surely will not look good on Polster's record.

"Kiezan Troops in Layfet are Non-Negotiable" Says Executive Chancellor

EC David George talked about his frustration with the Socialist Republic of Kiez in a recent Democracy Party conference

Image

David George told 2,500 Democracy party members in a crowded conference hall that he will seek to take a "harder line" when it comes to the Socialist Republic of Kiez and their "meddling in liberal democracies in Ventismar". David George unleashed the scathing attack on Premier Edward Richtofen, saying that he was deliberately trying to provoke the Republic of Eikangaard into open warfare with the EUSR calling it "upsetting" and "regretable" that Premier Richtofen felt the need to "continuously supply and support illegal and aggressive regimes in the name of ideology".

Answering a question about the on-going negotiations with the Republic of Layfet and whether the Executive Chancellor would stop Layfet joining the Union, David George answered:
"Layfet is a key partner in Ventismar. It'd be short-sighted of any administration to take such a heavy decision lightly. I will not block Layfet's entry just due to concerns with the Socialist Republic of Kiez - that is not a rightful justification - nor will the government alienate a close ally. However, I will make it very clear to Layfet negotiator's, the government's concerns with the Kiezan military presence and the actions of the United Intelligence Network which has close links to Kiez."

With the Layfet Tunnel being developed in Goldwyn, the government announced two days ago that funding for the construction project would be "up for review" should negotiations with Layfet fail something that would be "unfortunate" a Goldwyn government spokesman said.

Even though David George announced he was taking a hardline approach to Premier Richtofen, the Executive Chancellor said he'd be willing to directly sort the matter should the outcome of the Layfet negotiations be unfavourable. This stance of possible direct negotiations with Premier Richtofen raised some criticism from some Democracy Party activists with prominent member, Mathew-Howard Margót MP (DP), stating that any talks with Premier Richtofen should be "in a court of international justice" suggesting the Premier should be arrested for war crimes.

Even with the distraction that the Layfet situation provided for the Executive Chancellor, David George still couldn't escape questions about suspected whistleblower William "Missileman" Scott and the leak of the "Missile Plan". For the first time acknowledging the arrests in Lindenholt and the "Missile Plan" itself David George responded:
"Well, the whistleblower hasn't been verified yet. There's actually little in the way of obtaining useful knowledge of who could have released such sensitive information to the public with blatant disregard for public safety. As of the arrests in Lindenholt, we naturally work very closely with Lindian authorities therefore we are constantly in communication regardless of the situation, I cannot say as of yet about any arrests due to the nature of the situation and for courtesy reasons however I can say that my government is working to maximise public security on the matter. The 'Missile Plans' were actually decades old plans from when Capsland was experimenting with missile technology in the 90s. They're still classified due to requests from the Military Intelligence Service."

The Executive Chancellor went on further to announce plans for green energy and an international aid programme designed to help Corentian, Ziamban and Ophionese states invest in green technologies.

The Republic Announces Major Reforms to the Army

The Republican Army has announced a major restructuring program, which would allow for a more effective useage of funds in a prospective war against the Eikangaard United Socialist Republic. However, something has proven surprising. The number of soldiers in service will shrink slightly over the next two months. The projected shrink is about 17,000 troops, from 268 thousand troops, to 251 thousand, despite an overall increase in budget. This is, according to the Army, will allow for more funds to be diverted towards the purchase of new vehicles to enhance the offensive maneuvering capabilities of those units in the field.

"Currently, the Republic of Eikangaard lacks the capability to effectuate a quick and decisive conflict against the Terrorist State of the EUSR." Said Army Chief of Staff, Gerard Steffanson. "Without this capability, the odds of quickly reclaiming the illegally occupied northern stretches of our nation with minimal bloodshed remains slim. With our country still recovering from the previous war against the Monarchists, we must achieve victory in a prospective war against the EUSR quickly. To that end, we are sacrificing troop numbers in the short-term to begin building a stockpile of motorized and armored equipment to build a more effective army in the long-term."

Sunrisian, Creperian And Ederi Forces Begin “Fire Wall” Military Exercise In Western Corentia

Image

The Department of Security of the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia has announced the armed forces of Creperia, Edereon and Sunrisia had begun a large military exercise – “Fire Wall”, in Western Corentia. This was confirmed by Minister of Security Vírân Spêctér personally, who will be observing the exercise on Sunrisian behalf, with National Defense Consultant Clîpăs Dépúlsên possibly joining later as well. The “Fire Wall” military exercise sees the participation of 3 out of 4 full member states of MDAA and all 3 full members states of SOWEFTA. The later joining of The Seven United (Damsmar) into the exercise is being discussed on unofficial grounds, but there have been no official statements confirming or denying that from government or military ranks.

In a traditional manner tested in the distant past, the military exercise would be comprehensive. It would include the armies, the air forces, the navies and other branches of the armed forces of the participating states. The exercise would test the teamwork of the armies of the participating countries on the ground, the teamwork of the air forces in aerial battles against a common threat, as well as how well can the warships of the participating countries “mesh” together in battle. In another “dusted off” trend, the militaries would test out the different battle combinations of different military branches – Army/Air Force, Army/Navy, Air Force/Navy, etc.

Minister of Security Vírân Spêctér said that the “Fire Wall” military exercise is expected to last throughout a large portion of July, if not for the majority of the month. The Minister also said that this was the first out of 4 military exercises and war games that Sunrisia plans to propose to its’ military allies within MDAA and outside MDAA, referring to associate states and partner states of the military alliance and of Sunrisia personally. At that time, Sunrisia also has plans for more individual military drills on its’ own soil that it could hold in parallel to the multinational exercises mentioned previously. The number of personnel engaged in the “Fire Wall” military exercise does not exceed the minimal amount that would require for a in-advance notice to the globalist organization USA before beginning any drill. However, the future ones may actually involve a larger number of soldiers and thus require a rare engagement with the USA, despite the Nationalist sentiment in Sunrisia believing that countries should transition towards individual self-control and taking responsibility for their own proper behavior management, instead of submitting to USA policing and “globalist babysitting.”

Minister of Security Vírân Spêctér issued the following statement on the military exercise:

The codename – “Fire Wall” reflects the exclusively defensive and not offensive character of this military exercise. It is aimed at training for the defense of Western Corentia from threats coming out of the east, the north, the south and all other directions.

Empress Sora Miroyu offers diplomatic solution to the DCZR

A little over a week ago, on June 22, 2019, Imperial Airways Flight 2345 crashed in the countryside of the Democratic Central Ziamban Republic (DCZR). The cause of the crash is still unknown and is actually the cause of quite a lot of controversy.
Flight 2345 was traveling form Engelberg, Englean Kaiserreich, to the city of Ein, Empire of the Tao. Whilst traveling over the DCZR, all communications with the aircraft were lost at roughly 20:00 (8:00 pm) Taoist time. While despite their best efforts, traffic control, and military communication crews from the Empire of the Tao, and the Englean Kaiserreich were never able to regain any form of communications. This had prompted the Englean government to immediately dispatch a military investigative team which specializes in aircraft, and aircraft-related crashes.

The investigative team had done fairly extensive research into the crash that day, questioning the locals and evaluating the weather and geographic conditions of the area. After their initial research, the team had already come to an early suspicion that the crash was an intentional military shoot down of the aircraft. To confirm their suspicions, the investigators decided to take a look at the crash site, before being forced away by militia, or politely asked to leave, depending on who you ask.

The Ziamban response to the findings of the Englean investigative team was fairly hostile. The DCZR said the entire published situation was a "falsified story", as well as the investigative team sent by the Engleans being a "ruse". While the Engleans state that they were forced away, Ziamban Colonel Kamogelo Steenkamp of the Republican Police Forces stated that: "The Englean team was not forced away, but asked to leave after it was determined that their purpose for being in the DCZR was found to be false and proper immigration procedures were not completed correctly.". It should be noted that these two stories don't entirely match up. It's unlikely that the DCZR would be saying the investigative team was a part of an Englean conspiracy if they were merely asking them to leave because they were following improper and false immigration procedures.

The Talvistovans response to the findings of the Englean investigative team's findings was to increase their threat level to "MA" or moderate, which puts the military on stand by, ready to begin deployment within 24 hours.

The Engleans, who lost more lives on the flight than any other nationality, have outwardly shown dissatisfaction and annoyance with the DCZR for what they claim to be a fairly aggressive anti-international research stance. Now having publicly released the findings of the investigative team, as well as evidence from Engleans satellites and aircraft showing the surface to air missile launcher which is believed to have shot down the aircraft. The Engleans have also stated that: "They are undoubtedly guilty" in reference to the DCZR. In addition to the evidence of the shootdown, the Engleans provided evidence of multiple war crimes they have supposedly in their civil war. It is believed that the Kaiserreich will soon Condemn the DCZR, and begin military drills.

Meanwhile, the Empire has stayed fairly quiet on the subject, which is quite odd, seeing as how nearly 100 Taoist lives were lost on the flight. However, today the Empress spoke on the issue in front of the Imperial Palace in Ein. After giving a brief and neutral overview of the situation, the Empress graciously offered a diplomatic solution to the issue: "I understand that nearly 100 Taoist lives were lost in the crash, in addition to over 400 more of our Sunalayan brethren. I believe I have a solution which should satisfy all sides, should the DCZR comply. The Empire is willing to give humanitarian and economic aid to the people of the DCZR, should they allow Taoist, and USA investigative teams to evaluate the crash site and do a full inspection of the surrounding area in order to clear their name. The Empire extends this hand of mercy in good faith, so that the families of those lost may have the closure and peace of mind that their kin was not killed in an act of aggression, but merely an accident." How the DCZR, as well as other countries involved in the situation, will respond to this is still unknown. We can only hope, for the sake of the families of those lost, that this all leads to a misunderstanding, with hard evidence that this was merely an accident.

New Governance for a new Sanaatria

Image

A fresh faced Athaire this morning. Although his greying hair may suggest otherwise, he's the youngest man ever elected to the office of Sanaatrian President

After months of passionate debate about the direction of our nation, decision time came and went yesterday with over 70% of Sanaatrians over the age of 18 have made their voices heard in the largest election recorded in the history of our nation; electing both a new President, both Legislative Assemblies and several state premiers. With the nation being situated in several different timezones, Sanaatrians in the east waited with bated breath for several hours whilst those in the west continued to cast their ballots

After hours of waiting, however, the exit polls were finally revealed. The first prediction of the night brought with it a tremendous shock to not only much of the nation but to the establishment as a whole; a landslide victory for the newly formed National Union party. Although having gained momentum in previous weeks, particularly in rural areas of the country, the National Union's platform of rapid development, state-corporate partnership and renewed nationalism were written off by many traditional politicians and pundits as "little Sanaatrianism." It seems, however, that many younger voters, the product of Sanaatria's still on-going population expansion thanks to slow industrialisation, were inspired by the image of a greater, more modern Sanaatria and put their faith in the maverick candidate and his party; Kardoril Athaire.

Athaire founded his own party at the start of last year following the beginning of corruption investigations into the outgoing Government. Prior to his foray into politics, Athaire ran a conglomorate of manufacturing firms he himself has built over the past three-decades; most of which export cheap steel or military equipment. Whether or not the corruption which has long plagued Sanaatria will be swept out as his force in Government sweeps in remains to be seen but, regardless, Athaire's industrial holdings stand to benefit from his plans for military expansion and construction subsidies regardless.

With the actual results in and counted at 5am this morning, the exit poll was found to have actually underpredicted the win for the National Union with them sweeping 40% of the 'First Preference' vote on the Presidential ballot with their 'Second Preference' votes more than carrying them over the 50% line. In the legislative elections, although the National Union didn't receive over 50% of the seats in either Chamber, Athaire's party increased their seat share in both houses from 0 to around 40% with right-wing parties combined holding super-majorities in both chambers.

With the ideological outlook of the nation shaken as it begins its rise in the world, the new Government's priorities will be split between promises of a new Constitution and the need to deliver on promises of rapid industrialisation and growth.

The Seven United (Damsmarian) Forces Will Be Joining The Recently-Started “Fire Wall” Military Exercise In Western Corentia

Image

The rumors questioning the eventual participation of The Seven United (Damsmarian) forces in the ongoing “Fire Wall” military exercise have ended by turning out not to be rumors at all. Minister of Security Vírân Spêctér said that he and his Creperian and Ederi colleagues have been informed by the Commiss Army Chief of Staff Nicolas Fernandez of The Seven United (Damsmar) about his country joining the other 3 MDAA allies in the “Fire Wall” military exercise. Since the military exercise will be continuing for the majority if not all of July, the Commiss Army has a lot of time to join and plans to do so shortly, in order not to miss out and catch as much of the exercise as it can.

Meanwhile, the representatives of the general command of the Sunrisian Defense Force (SDF) have hinted that Sunrisia may conduct individual Sunrisian drills in parallel to the ongoing “Fire Wall” military exercise. These possible individual drills might include training by the Rapid Reaction Units (RRU), simulating the rapid deployment in defense of Sunrisia and allies from an outside attack or invasion, as well as testing anti-missile systems. Minister of Security Vírân Spêctér was asked by the press about cyber security, to which he responded that Sunrisia and allies have successfully strengthened defenses from 21st century threats as well and not just conventional military threats. According to Minister Spêctér, Sunrisia took the cyber-attack on ally South Baggnagia by North Baggnagia as a cautionary tale and took action to ensure its’ own security from such dangers, recommending that allies look into their cyber security as well and also offering assistance to friendly countries in strengthening their cyber security.

BREAKING: Military breaks protests in Novorossiysk

Protest leaders wanted and Martial law declared for the city following announcement of citizen-lead referendum

Novorossiysk The military has declared a state of Martial law in the city of Novorossiysk earlier today. Following the protests against the alleged illegitimate reelection of President Ikonov earlier last week, the government issued a statement saying that ‘there will be no recount’ and that ‘the protests must end.’ Protest leaders responded with organizing a city wide independence referendum announced today. Protest numbers in front of the government facilities in Novorossiysk skyrocketed following the announcement. At around noon the military moved into the city and used armored vehicles and several tanks to disperse the crowd. A city-wide curfew of 11pm has been issued and is being heavily enforced.

Already over 200 people have been arrested, several dozen for organizing the protests and referendum and the rest due to disobeying curfew. It is not clear how many soldiers are currently in Novorossiysk but one civilian report on social media claims that there are ‘at least two of them on every street. Busy roads and intersections even have armored vehicles.” Helicopters rotors can be heard around most of the city. The government facilities, formerly the site of the protest, is being fortified with several barricades and even some barbed wire.

Although many of the protest leaders have been taken into custody many still remain on the run. An anonymous social media account called ‘Free Novorossiysk’ has been created and is supportively run by the leaders in hiding. One of their posts has circulated the internet.

”The world has been quiet as we have been oppressed. Now our city has been occupied. This is a wake-up-call to all Novorussians- the government is not on our side. The Rose Federation is our oppressor, not our friend. We must act with force and #FreeNov. Down with the Federation. Down with Ikonov.

The government has tried their best to limit access to viewing the account and it’s messages although has made little progress. There has been no official statement made on the issue from the Federation itself.

President General: "There will be no Investigations," Cites Ziamban Investigation Results

Image
Democratic Republican Air Force Aircraft

Nearly a week after the crash of the Englean Imperial Airways Flight 2345, the Democratic Republic remains in the spotlight of several foreign nations. The Englean Kaiserreich, Kingdom of Talvistova, Kingdom of Shastara, and now the Empire of the Tao - an Ophion nation. This is understandable, as the flight held citizens of each nation. However, the Democratic Republic has been placed in the frying pan by each of these nations recently with their discontent with the fictional story of DCZR soldiers "forcing" an Englean "investigative team" from the Flight 2345 crash site. More recently came the claims by the Englean intelligence service, known as the "Abwehr." An official of the agency had stated that the Democratic Republic was "undoubtedly guilty" while presenting "evidence" gathered illegally over the DCZR.

This statement by the Englean agency was within a press release by the agency in response to the Flight 2345 incident. During this event, the agency provided "evidence" which was discounted by the Democratic Republican parliament and by the President General as "doctored evidence created to discredit the Democratic Republic in support of a conspiracy." In response to the Englean "satellite evidence" that shows a surface-to-air missile being fired, President General Ad-Idi stated today "The so-called evidence brought about by the Englean spy agency was no more than a MLRS system targeting rebel positions outside of Leewklip. At the time of the crash, there were not any Republican anti-aircraft batteries in place near that area." Furthermore, the General responded to the claims that the DCZR had been using chemical weapons against its populace and employed a notorious wanted individual: "These claims by the Englean state are no more than wild accusations being thrown in order to justify some kind of action against this nation. Accusations such as this will not be tolerated by any nation, no matter how powerful they might think they are. Further actions by the Englean state will be seen as hostile actions, and any military action towards the DCZR will be met with equal force."

Earlier today the Empire of the Tao entered the situation, apparently taking a "neutral" stance on the subject. The Taoist Empress released a statement today, "he Empire is willing to give humanitarian and economic aid to the people of the DCZR, should they allow Taoist, and USA investigative teams to evaluate the crash site and do a full inspection of the surrounding area in order to clear their name."

To many within the Democratic Republican government, this statement hides a sinister purpose behind the guise of humanitarianism. President General Ad-Idi responded: "The Taoist Empress makes a stance that appears to be of a just, humanitarian cause. However, I and many within the government can see through this - it is another trap esigned to ensnare the Republic into a false hope. Through the apparently generous offer of humanitarian aid would come an investigation by so-called "neutral USA investigators," but we know better - these will be another round of investigators hand-picked to forward the conspiracy designed by the imperialist powers. We are Ziamban people, we do not need charity. There will be no investigations. A Ziamban investigative team has already cleared our nation of any wrongdoing, and that is final."

The investiation that the President General was referring to was from one conducted through the previous week, which discovered that structural failure was at fault for the crash. In fact, the Republican Air Ministry stated that it was a "failure to properly design the tail section of the aircraft for areas of high-turbulance."

At this time, the Democratic Republican government has placed the nation into a state of marshal law in preparation for possible reactions by foreign nations. It has also made a formal conclusion that the crash of Flight 2345 was a result of Englean fault, and therefore sanctions would be placed on the nation in response to its actions towards the Democratic Republic. As in the words of the President General, "The Republic is ready and willing to protect itself from any actions."

Layfet signs final VU treaties, amid still strong tensions

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Executive Minister Susan Polster finished siging the final treaties on behalf of Congress and the country today, offically marking Layfet's entry into the Ventismarian Union. Congress seemed excited too as moments afterward approved a measure marking July 1st as VU Day.

Despite the historic day, Layfet's government still has several decisions to make in the next few days as tensions have risen between Keiz, Layfet, and many VU member states after Layfet allowed 30,000 Keizan troops inside the country following the wake of the Sunrisian Nuclear Crisis and the following crisis in Eikengaard.

The government's decision to recognize the EUSR as opposed to the Republic of Eikengaard has also upset other VU politicians, but given Layfet's ties to Kiez, the move wasn't seen as unsurprising.

What is surprising however is how the Layfetian people are reacting, with a recent poll by the Post showing that 39 percent of people approve of how the government is handling the crisis. Of the remaining 61 percent, 17 percent say that Layfet should do nothing and let the VU deal with the troops, 14 percent say that Layfet should immediately leave the VU, 25 percent say the country should put under Capsland's defense sphere and the last 5 percent either don't care/don't know. (this poll as a +/- 5 percent margin of error)

This country is surely divided but once again united in thinking that Polster's administration is a disaster, having her approval rating fall to just 32 percent. Polster has yet to comment on her falling approval ratings.

Special Layfetian Negotiator Aster Parkinson says his team "should have a deal with the crown, EC, and VU by the end of the week" and that "things look good at the moment". He gave no details as to what has and is currently being discussed at the table. Keizian officals are also absent from the table and Parkinson noted "We are uncertain about what we can (discuss) with Keizians at the moment. We will form another team to talk to them after we have a tentative deal settled out"

2020 Union Party Executive Ministership Candidate Oliver Cromwell, who headed the United Intelligence Network (which Layfet's involvement in is also somewhat of a controversy) has said that "while it is imperative that Keizian troops must leave our fair and free shores, the intelligence that the UIN gathers is independent from Layfet's membership in an organization and bears a higher importance then economics. That of ensuring freedom for our democracy. Any deal with the VU must leave the UIN out of it"

Another 2020 candidate from Polster's own party - Anne Fitch calles Polster's actions "a disaster" and preceded to explain that Polster "doesn't have as much foreign policy experience as she thinks she does or that former Executive Minister Edmond Dantes had. This new tension is only going to prolong this recession that Polster created"

Time will tell how well the government will reach a deal and these issues can be resolved before Polster's reputation is destroyed, meanwhile all of Layfet's 29 MVPs will be sent to the VU tomorrow in the following arrangement:
Progressive Party of Layfet - SDAV - 16
Capitalist Party of Layfet - LAV - 6
Union Party of Layfet - SDAV - 6
Nationalist Party of Layfet - VS - 1

Headquarters of the SNOPA

A crude deal

As the world economy continues to grow and the nations of the world seem to build up their militaries with no end, one would expect more and more crude oil to be demanded on the world market. Not just for fuel but to be refined into other goods; tarmac for roads, fuels for vehicles and plastics for consumer goods. However, with the advancement of renewable technologies beyond what was thought capable of them a mere decade ago, demand has grown far slower than what the SNOPA (Sanaatrian National Oil Producers Association) had previously predicted with them having made huge investments over the previous decade to capitalise on the expected growing thirst for Sanaatrian crude and crude-derived exports.

Of course, whilst a growth in demand has taken place hasn't reached anywhere near the levels predicted. Consequently, a marked reduction in the market prices of crude oil and its derivatives has taken place as the glut in supply means that the market is reverse-rationing (decreasing prices to reach equilibrium) which, naturally, is hurting oil companies who, after a decade of investment, still haven't made a profit on newer investments in exploratory projects across the nation.

The quarterly meeting of the SNOPA, in Sanaatria's capital city - Auralius, traditionally heralds no real change in production quotas for the nation's 5 largest oil and refinery firms but the first meeting of the new economic year brought with it, perhaps, the largest change in domestic crude policy in over a generation. Under pressure from the new administration of President Athaire, at least according to some sources, three of the five companies received communiques from the Administration instructing them to revise current policy; suggesting a cut in domestic production as well as limits on exports to strangle supply on the international market - aimed at forcing prices up.

Whilst the CEOs of Sanaatria's 5 largest oil and refinery firms voted unanimously in favour of proposed cuts in production, propositions aimed at cutting the world supply of crude, easily do-able by Sanaatria due to it holding a large proportion of the world's crude and gas reserves, had a more difficult time but still passed on a vote of 3 for and 2 against.

The change in policy shows not only a greater Government interest in the role of private energy firms in Sanaatria's economy but also an interest in using international markets to promote economic stability at home, through improving the revenue margins of Sanaatrian companies, but also to control markets and economies abroad by taking actions to control those market prices.

BREAKING: Golden Oil Refiary Site Attacked in DCZR
Image

Makoumba, DCZR:

Shastaran oil giant Golden Well Oil reported that at 7:00 AM East Ventismar Time rockets landed in residential and operational sectors of the companies Zelaria Oil Site near the village of Makoumba in the DCZR. Shortly after at around 7:20 the bombardment subsided and reports of gunfire came up from several points around the facility. Golden Well private security is reported to have been overrun by a yet unknown faction in the DCZR and there has been no contact with the Zelaria facility since 8:00 AM EVT.

As of yet, there have been no claims of responsibility, however, this attack comes after the downing of Imperial Airlines Flight 2345 which killed all 508 aboard and this weeks claim made by the Talvistovan RTSLSASC that they have found ICBM sites in the troubled nation, and the request made by the Tao to allow USA investigators into the nation. Whether the attackers are forces loyal to the nations dictator General Ad-Idi or rebels or Capslandian ecoterrorists has yet to be confirmed.

Golden Oil is reporting that all oil exports from the Zelaria facility have stopped and that the facility is estimated to be a “complete loss”. Additionally, Golden Oil CEO Wendyll Mikes has reportedly appealed to the Ministry of Defence to station actual Shastaran troops at other Golden Oil facilities in the DCZR. Both Golden Oil and the Ministry of Defence have not issued any further comments on the matter.

The National Assemblea is expected to vote on whether or not to impose sanctions on the DCZR. Assemblea Minister Harri Glynn came out in full support of sanctions and heavily urged other allies of Shastara to do the same:

“Truth to those who conceal it is a dangerous thing. And the perpetrators of this attack should know that. It is very jarring that an attack of this scale could come from a country which supplies much of the region's oil and holds several trillion credits in foreign assets, Shastaran or otherwise. Another cold truth is that the nations of the west have tolerated the Ad-Idi regime purely because it brought stability and security to the region and the market. If General Ad-Idi cannot ensure that Central Ziamban remains stable then he should be reminded that we can simply take our business elsewhere. Molenston perhaps? Or maybe our friends to the east would be willing to take up the slack? For now, we are voting to freeze all domestic assets of the DCZR and a committee appointed by the Queen is exploring options to assist Golden Oil in moving assets to other more friendly oil producers.”

IO PARTY HOLDS MAJORITY: Several Districts To Recount

Image

Jamestown The Ophioneus United Party gained seven seats in the National Assembly, growing their dominance in the federal legislator, to the dismay of the Unity Coalition. Exit polls show that United will gain in several rural areas of the nation, deeping a growing divide in the country between rural and urban areas. This election has decided the outcome of the Federation for another year. With this mandate it is expected that the party will double down on campaign promises, with the opposition unable to halt or slow the agenda of the party.

The Unity Coalition, led by Alexander Karev has stated that in several districts the polls are too close to count, and has demanded that there are recounts in these areas. Despite this, the Coalition will loose 5 seats, greatly reducing their clout in the National Assembly. Karev, who has spent the passed month campaigning, announced that despite the setback the Coalition will continue to defend citizen’s rights and seek out government accountability. The defeats seemed to have strengthened the coalition, and it seems it will become the standing opposition party.

BREAKING NEWS: Creation of North Lutetian Treaty Organization
Image

Jamestown, Ophioneus --- Upon the dissolution of the United Soviet Jason Republic and it’s subsequent reformation into the modern day Federation of Ophioneus, relations between the Socialist Republic of Kiez and Ophioneus have remained largely cold with President Io Innokenty’s demands of Kiez integrating itself as a member of the Federation. For the past two years there has remained an impasse in which both parties were unwilling to communicate with each other, both sides remaining defiant against the other.

Until as of recently, a high-level official representing the Richtofen Administration reached out through official channels to arrange a meeting with President Innokenty. Where even the Premier failed to change the stance of the former Republican General would this official make a breakthrough. Formally reestablishing diplomatic contact between the Socialist Republic of Kiez and the Federation of Ophioneus

This sudden change of winds comes as Ophioneus has had an election, solidifying President Innokenty’s control of the Federation for at least another year. The President, infamous for demanding the Socalist Republic drop communism and become federated with Ophioneus, has apparently had a major change in heart. While not willing to go public, several Federal employees wishing to remain anonymous stated that a VIP from the Socalist Republic recently visited the Federation and met with Innokenty and contributed to the change in heart.

Unnamed sources in both nations agreed that the recent announcement of a ballistics missile caused alarm within the upper echelons of government. Recent actions by the VU have been perceived as setting up for a war in an area traditionally friendly towards the Socalist Republic and the former USJR. While the Federation has taken a backseat in foreign policy, it appears that will no longer be the case. Almost ignoring the USA for a time, several officials state that the Federation is posed to release several new bills in an attempt to prevent the Assembly from becoming a rubber stamp for military interventions.

While remaining tight-lipped about the details regarding the conference with the Federation, a spokesperson for the Richtofen Administration had this to say “Today marks a day in which tremendous progress has been made between the two countries, in which we turn our attention to a growing danger presenting itself to the Ventismarian region. It is with great joy do we announce the formation of the North Lutetian Treaty Organization (NLTO) to act as a coalition in which members strive to protect one another from outside interference and more importantly to ensure that all members are given a chance to rise to their full potential and reach an era of peace and prosperity.”

President Innokenty stated in a written announcement that the “North Lutetian Treaty Organization will help provide stability in one of the most developed regions in the world” and “provide a platform for nations, even outsiders, to discuss arms control for conventional, unconventional, and hypersonic arms and armaments.” The President also announced that it will consider “cyber attacks invokable under the mutual defense clause of NLTO.” Behind the scenes, the Federation demanded that the EUSR hold free-elections and renounce supporting all terrorists in order to join NLTO.

In response to the formation of the NLTO, Premier Richtofen had this to say to reporters “Many in the Defense Ministry have stated that as time goes on and instability rises we may possibly see a repeat of the year of 2017 where nations from every corner of not only Ventismar but the world have faced insurgent terrorism. I feel that if we are to ensure peace in our time then mutual cooperation with each other is the way to go.”

The Articles of Organization given to the press states that each member of the NLTO will defend each other member when attacked. The headquarters will rotate amongst member states every three months. While it appears the pact is currently limited to defensive actions, several diplomats stated that the Organization may grow to have economic and social aspects.

Already there have been a number of nations that have signed on to the North Letetian Treaty Organization such as the United Kingdoms of Shastara and the Mysenaen Empire with hopes high that other surrounding nations will consider joining the newly formed coalition. In a shocking turn of events there has been confirmation that the Layfetian Republic, a nation located in Western Ventismar as well as the most recent nation to have joined the Ventismar Union has also been granted association status with the NLTO. While there has been no formal response from other VU members, it is unknown what the implications will cause with Layfet’s stance with other members of the Ventismar Union.

Another warm week, another blow to the potato

ARTWINGEN -- The lack of rainfall and the coming week's warm weather might have serious consequences according to meteorology professor Aard van Zevenum of the University of Artwingen. The predicted temperatures for the country in the coming week will be a continuation of an already dry summer. Combined with the dry summer of last year, farmers fear that without adequate action they might face a serious drought that could result in crop failures.

"Temperatures above 30 degrees are deadly" according to Okko de Veld, a potato farmer from the province of Westerland. "At temperatures above 30 degrees the leaves start to dry out and can no longer provide the plant with a shade; causing the potatoes to simply dry out." While the solution to this problem is to water the potatoes, De Veld says that he simply cannot water the entirety of his 360 hectares of potato fields, as he only has two sprayers that have a combined capacity of watering 120 hectares of land. "And when you start spraying, you have to continue, since the roots get accustomed to getting a lot of water".

"I am lucky" the potato farmer says. As it stands, De Veld predicts a harvest of at least 38 tonnes per hectare, while others are struggling with a predicted harvest of just 10 tonnes per hectare.

Despite the bad harvest, the most serious hit won't be to the farmers. They are well protected through Lindian laws and VU subsidies. The export sector and foreign consumers, however, will largely have to bear the cost of the 2 millimetres of rain Ventismar's breadbasket has had for the past weeks. Lindian potatoes are exported to countries like Capsland, Ripuaria and Felsinia, but also to further away destination across the Lutetian Ocean. "Consumers and the food processing industry will have to make due with smaller and more expensive potatoes" De Veld says.

The ministry for public works and water management presented their plans for an irrigation initiative last week. Keeping in mind that it has yet to receive a budget and be put in to action, this solution is still years away. Since the drought of last summer, water levels have still not returned to their original levels and so far local governments, the landscapes, were tasked with managing their ground water levels. As landscape councils differ from landscape to landscape, this has caused for some areas of the country to enact vastly different strategies of dividing the still available groundwater. While landscapes governed by the Green Progressives put restrictions on farmers in order to divert more water to nature, landscapes where more right wing parties such as the Liberal People's Party and the United Ecumenistic Alliance have a say usually prioritise agricultural use. Exporters, farmers and the food industry are calling for the government to implement a nationwide policy, and prime minister Tulpen has so far hinted that such a national ground water management policy is in the works.

President Válîd Sâlúbĕr Awards The Golden Sun To Outgoing Chairman Shou Vedder Of West Zilveren Berg

Image

Chairman Shou Vedder of the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly of the State of West Zilveren Berg is on a visit to Sunrisia, which is expected to be the Chairman’s final visit in his position and also the final before the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly transfers power to the new government of West Zilveren Berg and disbands. The transitional de facto head of state of West Zilveren Berg has come to Sunrisia by the invitation of President Válîd Sâlúbĕr. The President wanted to award Chairman Shou Vedder personally and subsequently the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly for effective leadership during the post-war recovery period that West Zilveren Berg has gone through so far, as well as for the restoration of democracy and human rights on the territory that today makes up the sovereign state of West Zilveren Berg, after those foundations were destroyed by bloody dictatorship of Supreme Leader Rhul Gorm, who ruled over a still-united Zilveren Berg with an iron fist. President Sâlúbĕr made invitation after West Zilveren Berg had successfully held its’ first democratic elections for a government that would inherit power from the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly of the State of West Zilveren Berg.

President Válîd Sâlúbĕr hosted Chairman Shou Vedder of West Zilveren Berg at the Presidential Palace, where the ceremony of awarding the honor of the Golden Sun by the President to the Chairman of West Zilveren Berg took place. Afterwards, Chairman Shou Vedder was invited to the Convet of the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia to speak his heart before the Sunrisian lawmakers from a podium.

Meanwhile, Minister of International Relations Edén Sȏlítûdá made the following statement to the press on the current visit by Chairman Shou Vedder of the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly of the State of West Zilveren Berg, expressing clearly the entire agenda:

The current visit by Chairman Shou Vedder of West Zilveren Berg is focused exclusively on the ceremonies meant to honor the achievements of him personally and of the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly of the State of West Zilveren Berg as the transitional government of the world’s youngest struggling country. The Chairman and the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly have inherited a very difficult situation and they had to move forth throughout. They had led West Zilveren Berg throughout the majority of its’ rehabilitation from the war and towards the very first democratic elections in the history of West Zilveren statehood and also the very first elections in the long time for the people living in that territory, after they had overcome a period of the dictatorship of Supreme Leader Rhul Gorm, a now-deceased autocrat.

This visit by Chairman Shou Vedder has a certain sentimental side to it, if you will. The President and the Chairman are not meant to hold any “business-related” discussions. Any political affairs would from now be covered together with the recently-elected and incoming government of West Zilveren Berg, which the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly will be transferring leadership to. The Sunrisian government and the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly of the State of West Zilveren Berg have concluded the period of cooperation throughout West Zilveren transition, so this is meant to be a goodbye, an exchange of good wishes and an honoring of the Parliamentary Legislative Assembly’s contributions in a more than challenging time.

President Athaire signing the treaties this morning

ACCIS Ascension

With a new Government comes a new Foreign Policy and nothing is more of a breath of fresh air for the Exterior Ministry than the treaties signed by President Athaire this morning; televised to the nation from the Office of the President in Auralius. The President confirmed to the people that the nation would be seeking smooth but rapid entry into both the Military and Economic sections of the Association of Cooperative Corentian and International States; abbreviated to ACCIS. President Athaire set out his case to the people and to both houses of the Sanaatrian Legislature; outlining in detail his vision for a Sanaatria more active and involved on the world stage - economically and militarily.

The new policy was largely welcomed by many across the political spectrum with the parties of the right as well as some of the centre and moderate left welcoming the breath of fresh air. Public opinion polls, however, present a more mixed view. Although the vast majority of Sanaatrians (73 percent) believed that a new foreign policy outlook and strategy was a 'must have' for any new Government, only 53 percent were "fully behind the President's plan", 7 percent held "mixed views" whilst the remainder were dead against Sanaatrian membership in the ACCIS.

The forty percent are beginning to find their voice in the newly emergent "All Sanaatria Forward Block."; a political party which, like Athaire's National Union, was very much an outsider party at the last election which, against all odds, made huge gains. This movement, traditionally a fringe party in the Sanaatrian political scene, has recently gained ground in the polls by taking a tough stance against Sanaatrian membership of international organisations; something many in the country feel undermine the nation's sovereignty. The party itself agrees that a new foreign policy outlook is needed but believe that it must be an independent view which places Sanaatrian views and interests first and foremost.

With this, President Athaire issued an open invitation for ACCIS leaders to visit the nation's new Capital city, Auralius, not only for talks regarding the Alliance itself but in-order for them to better understand our newly opened nation and the potential it holds for the world.

Commonwealth Day parade massive success

Image
Sanaatrian soldiers march through the capital's streets under the flag of the Army

The first major event attended by newly elected President Athaire was the annual Commonwealth Day parade through the streets of the capital; held in March each year to celebrate the dissolution of the Military Government and founding of the Sanaatrian Commonwealth. As always, troops from the national army were the main headliners of the parade but, breaking with tradition, some units from the different guard units of the Commonwealth (forces controlled by the individual republics unless switched to the direct oversight of the Capital) broke with tradition and chose to wear a mix of combat and dress uniforms in the parade; as pictured above.

As always, the parade served as an opportunity for the public to have a moment in which they can air their national pride and patriotism but also presented an opportunity for the nation to bear some of its new teeth in front of the world with the first procession of the nation's newest and most advanced models of Tanks having taken place; a nod to the rest of the world that Sanaatria's catching up and doing so fast.

Not only was this year the first major event for the nation's new tanks but it was also the first Commonwealth Day parade, and indeed the first major national military parade, with the inclusion of female soldiers. Under plans introduced by the previous administration in their last days, conscription in the nation was decided to be extended to women as well as men; opening up not only conscription but opportunities to access the military branch of Sanaatria's education system and opportunities in the regular army to women - something the current government wants to grow by retaining conscripts after their 24 month conscription period is up. Although the previous administration's plans were widely supported and accepted, the nation's Muslim community, who number around 18 percent of the population, as well as more conservative elements in the Karthspiri Orthodox faith pressed the Government to allow for the creation of separate women's battalions; allowing female participation whilst keeping traditionalist groups happy.

Barbara Giles' Fall From Grace

In a devastating blow to the SDP, Barbara Giles has been forced to resign following party in-fighting

Image

The leader of the Social Democratic Party, Capsland's second largest party and main opposition party has resigned after calls from SDP MPs. Barbara Giles MP (SDP) announced her departure in a heartfelt speech yesterday evening in front of the Social Democratic conference in St. Claires. In the speech Barbara Giles MP said it was "regrettable" that she had to leave after only two years being leader and official opposition.

The reason for the calls to resign was the way the Social Democratic party leadership handled the unitary referendum. It was reported that Barbara Giles wished to join the unitary camp and campaign with the Democracy Party during the referendum, much to the dismay of SDP members and MPs. Due to the fierce backlash Barbara Giles faced she was forced to lead the party into a neutral position with the party almost evenly split between unitary and federal sympathies. The referendum had effectively paralysed and split the SDP into two warring factions with most of the blame being put on Barbara Giles.

But what about her legacy?

In her speech she stated that she regretted many things but always "held her own conviction" and "stood by her personal and party beliefs". When she was elected leader of the SDP in 2017, and quickly rose to one of Capsland's most prominent politicians. She was credited with saving the party after a disastrous collapse of the SDP government in 2017 and is often thanked for her involvement in retaining a strong SDP presence in the senate. During 2017 and 2018 she was consistently polled as one of the most liked politicians in Capsland. Seen as a moderate progressive, she set out to "modernise, individualise and immortalise" the Social Democratic Party achieving this by reforming the way members get to vote on party policy and repairing the relationship between the SDP and the Green and Liberal Alliance.

In most accounts she succeeded in modernising the SDP's outdated voting system and brought the party into close talks with the Socialist-Bloc and the Green and Liberal Alliance, even agreeing a government plan for Goldwyn with the Liberation Party - something that was ruled out by Julien Piccard (LP) in the wake of the 2017 snap general election.

Who will replace Barbara Giles MP as leader?

The replacement for leader of the SDP is up to the members. Currently only current MPs can run for leadership meaning one of the current 129 SDP MPs will be the new leader. The SDP currently has 4,732,433 signed members across Capsland with about 30,000 members being Capslandian expats living abroad. These 4,732,433 members will be able to vote on candidates in the coming month after a period of candidate selection, hustings and debating run by the MPs themselves. Current favourite to become leader is Helen Maple MP (SDP), the shadow foreign secretary. Known as a "hard leftist" Helen Maple MP is a divisive figure in the SDP with her views on social and foreign policy often causing conservative critics to call her Marxist. Other notable candidates include Geoff Dundas-Litten MP - a retired banker, William Jacobs MP - ex-chairman of Union, the largest work Union in Capsland, and Dame Isobel Supritt-Humes MP - founder of the 'Board of Unions' and distant relative to the Queen.
