Rare Frog Species Protected

Postby Nokglatia » Tue Jun 19, 2018 10:41 am

Recently, protesters around a major environmental museum have been demanding that an endangered frog species be given further protection. Their habitat lies around several major towns so developers are skeptical.

After they made the parliament vote on it, a bill further protecting the frogs was passed thanks to 6 extra votes. Land developers along with a town’s mayor held several complaints and petitions, news will soon be breaking about the future of the species’ protection.

Daredland creates State Ministry of Reintegration and Reconciliation

Image

The State Council of the Daredi Confederacy has approved the creation of the State Ministry of Reintegration and Reconciliation. This new State Ministry will be responsible for handling the problem with the break-away regions of Daredland, including the peaceful process of reuniting the nation, internal migration between Daredland and the break-away regions and reconciliation among civilians that might fall under of threat of animosity-spreading propaganda.

The new State Ministry will also be responsible for developing diplomatic bridges between Daredland and the break-away regions. The Chancellor and the President of the State Council will no longer have to legally handle regular negotiations with the break-away regions unless it’s a very special case. The State Minister of Reintegration and Reconciliation along with the staff will have an exclusive right of frequent contacts with the separatists. This privilege or duty is similar to how Special Representative for Interactions with the Englean Kaiserreich Lucius Weber gets to directly interact with Englean officials including permission to travel to the territory of the Englean Kaiserreich under Daredi government permission. No other Daredi elected officials are allowed to formally do so. The State Minister of Reintegration and Reconciliation will have to regularly interact with people that are considered terrorists and criminals by the Daredi government.

The regions that the State Ministry of Reintegration and Reconciliation will have to handle are obviously the Weniges Reich and the Hasperan Republic. That is if new break-away regions do not start appearing in which case the State Ministry’s responsibility zones would increase in number. President of the State Council of Daredland Friedrich Schäfer was initially reluctant to support the creation of the new State Ministry over how the Weniges Reich might react. But later he had changed his mind. Schäfer gave into the pressure from other parties in the State Council and also saw the creation of the new State Ministry as an opportunity.

[Spoken in German]: “I originally feared that the leadership and the people of the Weniges Reich might misunderstand our intentions. We could not have a government body solely dedicated to reintegrating the Confederacy. In the Weniges Reich they might have misunderstood this as our declaration that we were determined to forcibly return them under the Daredi flag no matter what. We could not have allowed such a misunderstanding to occur. Especially in a time when we had made such diplomatic progress with the Weniges Reich thanks to myself and my party. But I now see that this is something that we have actually called for all along. An establishment of a direct frequent contact between the Daredi and Weniges leaderships on a government level. No longer will I have to take care of this or try to force the rebellious Chancellor of ours to talk with the Weniges officials. And no longer will Daredi–Weniges contacts have to happen only on special occasions. They will be frequent. We are especially enthusiastic about the word Reconciliation in the new State Ministry’s title because it means that we will make up and not just reunite. Maybe as a show of good will the new State Ministry will also handle talks on the need for the Weniges Reich to participate in Daredi elections. We need to appoint a very responsible and dedicated person in the place of the State Minister who will show good intentions on behalf of Daredland.”

Other parties in the State Council apart from the Legion of Germanic Daredland (LGD) talked about the regular mass migration flow from the Weniges Reich and the Hasperan Republic into the rest of Daredland. On the Weniges frontline the migration is being assisted by Konfoderaleswehr troops, but the Hasperan migration is not managed because there was no military clash on Hasperan territory and no formal border was ever created. Other parties insist that the new State Ministry should be given the duties of handling support of Weniges and Hasperan refugees. Fleeing from oppression is happening in both break-away regions. The Hasperan refugees are fleeing an authoritarian separatist government and Weniges refugees are fleeing a military government. In the past Daredi officials were saying that Weniges refugees are running away from Englean occupant troops too, but that rhetoric has been pulled back now. Special Representative for Interactions with the Englean Kaiserreich Lucius Weber suggested that the Daredi government should no longer speak about the Englean occupation of the Weniges Reich without solid proof.

Presently the State Council is holding hearings to appoint the State Minister of Reintegration and Reconciliation. The State Council is now questioning Adnet Baumgartner for the position. Meanwhile Chancellor Calvin Aigner has boarded a flight to Orentan, Sunrisia for an MDAA summit. The Chancellor hopes to handle the questions of progress under the MDAA–Daredland Action Plan and Daredland’s ambition to become a member of MDAA in the future.

First Embassy Exchange

Postby Nokglatia » Tue Jun 19, 2018 12:24 pm

Nokglatian Republic News:

NRN reporting from Agadtu central district. Nokglatia has been quite a closed country until today. Formal relations have been established with Rhodevus via exchange of embassies, and Nokglatia is very happy to soon begin trade. Most parliament members are excited that this will create a tourist influx onto the sunny sandy shores of Nokglatia, helping out with the still developing economy. Business owners are excited to possibly open up shop in Rhodevus’ major cities, and that Rhodeve will be intrigued by the new culture entering the world stage. For Nokglatia is full of dyes, stone bricks, and crafts that have waited to be exported, a new era arises for the nation. The president traveling from her residence to parliament this morning stated that she is interested in establishing relations with all foreign nations, and that they can contribute to the world peacekeeping and development effort. Government officials were excited in that they hoped investors from Rhodevus would help improve the steadily growing economy.

Abortion Bill Still Under Debate

Postby Nokglatia » Tue Jun 19, 2018 3:34 pm

Nokglatia Republic News:

In Nokglatia, abortion has been quite a divisive topic, with many member of the Leftist Party crossing party lines to join the side of the pro-life Conservative Party. The Conservative Party will not agree to allow abortion under any normal circumstances. Currently, a person would need the approval of 3 doctors and their parents to get an abortion if there weren't any unusual circumstances, but thousands want to require no approval, as well as the socially liberal president.

A document weighing this down is that in the constitution that has been in action since 1937, it states "No person under 16 can ever be killed unless they committed a disturbing number of murders or other actions." Should this apply to babies in development or not? It is grinding the parliament building to a halt. Protesters supporting the constitution even rallied outside of the Liberal Party HQ. A protester says "The Liberal party thinks they can kill children in the name of a grownup's rights!? We either keep current regulation or forever outlaw it. New people are a blessing to the republic, not a bane!"

Surveys show that in Dujakli (The Sodo and the City), people overwhelmingly support free abortion. However in Duba Sodo and Glikihua Sodo, most heads of the household say no, roughly half of them think regulation should be even tighter. This is partially because of older laws that have governed family morals for 300+ years, 16th century philosophers in the land were heavily against letting any un-born child die.

Electoral Shock as Karalis Elected Socialist Central Chamber Leader

Shock in Parliament today as the Socialist Representatives in the Central Chamber elected Alexis Karalis over Anto Stavrou, this is a shock to many after it was predicted that Anto Stavrou would win the vote with relative ease due to his experience and the endorsement from Toby Renn. However, it appears that this was nowhere near enough with Stavrou only gaining 67 votes meanwhile Karalis picked up 116 votes which is 63% of all Socialist Representatives in Central Chamber. It must be said that since last Thursday when the vote fell to just two candidates a lot has happened to put Karalis in a more favourable position. Most notably with Lambros Sarkis Chief of OTUF endorsing Karalis with the support of almost all the Unions throughout Orilya, his anti-trade stance has given him substantial support from many leftist groups throughout Orilya. Another group to jump aboard the Karalis train were the state-owned businesses who are also fond of Karalis’s strong anti-trade stance ahead of the upcoming trade negotiations with the VU. But possibly the most significant endorsement Karalis received was that of the chief of the Defence Board General Ezheva who had this to say about new leader “Alexis Karalis is one of the finest soldiers to have served this country, and we are all indebted to his service beyond what was required of him. In his years of service, when this man was under my command I could take solace in the knowledge that he would serve me to the best of his ability, and hopefully the Orilyan people can do the same”. It must also be noted that the support that Karalis received from the grassroots of the Socialist party was instrumental in his leadership success, with his supporters rallying all over Orilya in the thousands to watch how their local Representative voted and are now celebrating.

Image
Anto Stavrou and Toby Renn
After this unexpected victory many experts are now discussing what this will mean for Orilyan politics going forward, Professor of Politics at Ortos University Andreas Deftus had this to say “The result of this election shall be very significant in the immediate future with the Socialists finally having that leadership they have lacked in the first two and a half weeks. But it might not be smooth sailing for the young leader, his lack of experience in the Central Chamber may make it difficult to effectively whip votes and we may see Socialist Senate Leader Layna Rorch’s renewed influence in the Central Chamber. But after this result who knows what could happen.”. Anto Stavrou also had this to say “Of course we are disappointed by the result, but we respect the will of the party and my fellow representatives” this was followed by Toby Renn “Now is not the time for animosity now is a time for unity, and the socialist in the Central Chamber must stand united behind their new leader.” Stavrou finished with “I wish Alexis Karalis all the best and look forward to where his leadership takes us, and I would like to offer my services to help him achieve our vision.”.

Image
Alexis Karalis giving his victory speech
Layna Rorch has congratulated her new counterpart in her statement “I would like to offer my congratulations to Alexis for his victory in the Central Chamber and I hope now we can see some discipline in the lower chamber to the benefit of the party as a whole. I hope Karalis will support me in towing the party line and supporting the leadership in the Senate, I hope he takes a page out of his predecessor’s book and sees how instrumental his new position can be when we work together in both the CC and the Senate. I would also like to take this time to offer my congratulations to Anto Stavrou he fought a hard campaign and fought it very well, I hope this doesn’t dissuade him from additional attempts to continue to strive to greater heights in the Socialist Party.” This speech has already been a source of controversy from some Socialist representatives in the Central Chamber and some of its members. But now some words from the man himself in these key lines of his victory speech. “First of all I would like to thank all the members of my campaign for their time and effort in this campaign and for helping deliver this victory, We Did It” he said raising a fist in the air whilst the crowd cheers “I would also like to thank my fellow Representatives in the Central Chamber and the members of the Socialist party for their patience in these first two and a half weeks without leadership. And Finally offer my thanks to Anto Stavrou for running an exceptional campaign and his service to the Socialist Party as whip for the past four years, and I would like to offer him the position of deputy chief whip of the Socialist Party in the CC, because now is time for Unity in the Socialist party. Especially ahead of Prime Minister Edelera’s trade deal with the VU the party must stand united in opposition to this and protect are domestic industries and our workers from foreign corporations. We must also look inwards to our private companies growing their market shares and attempting to privatise our vital industries, we cannot allow corporations put their profits ahead of the welfare of Orilya’s people and the service the government provides to them.” This was met with a loud applause. “I do agree with Prime Minister Edelera it is time bring Orilya into the modern era and for Orilya to take more of a position on the world stage. The Orilya government must follow in the footsteps of the Defence Board and make closer ties with nations across Sunalaya.” Karalis went on to finish his speech “As we face the coming challenge Unity is where we will derive our strength, and then we shall prevail. Thank you very much.” It will be interesting to see how Renn’s replacement fairs as Party Leader in the Central Chamber, and to see how his relationship with his counterparts from other parties, the Socialist Leader in the Senate and the Prime Minister grow.

David George Continues to the Orilyan Capital

Image
Ortos is the capital of Orilya and the last location David George has to visit

David George arrived in Orilya on Sunday and has so far toured the majority of the country. He has visited many of the battle sites of the Fifth Orilyan Civil War that lasted from 1967 to 1973 meeting with veterans and holding an open discussion on the effect the civil war had on people's every day lives.

Orilya is the last nation on EC George's list after visiting Sunrisia and Pantorrum earlier this month to conclude military contract deals and establish Ventismarian Union deals in the two nations. It is the hope that the Executive Chancellor will work his magic in Orilya, a nation that has largely been sceptical of outside investment and intervention particularly due to the complicated and bureaucratic nature of the Orilyan political system.

So far the Executive Chancellor has not yet discussed any major policy with the current Prime Minister, Diana Edelera, but it is suspected that tomorrow will be the first round of trade and military cooperation talks between the two. The Ventismarian Union is currently expanding its trade reaches to Southern and Eastern Ventismar with an agreement signed with Esotana, a nearby neighbour to Orilya, just a few weeks ago.

Currently in Orilya the reception has been very positive however there are voices in Orilyan politics that are vehemently opposed to any such trade deal that would potentially harm Orilyan domestic business. This rhetoric has largely been played off by Prime Minister Edelera, however.

David George has also took it upon him to denounce and oppose the nuclear aspirations of North Bagnaggia stating "Ventismar is safer without the aspirations or political conquests involved in obtaining nuclear devices and the like" and has called on the North Bagnaggian leadership to "seriously rethink" is nuclear policy or face "overwhelming justice". These statements echo that of the Orilyan government.

Democracy Party and Christian Democrats Attack Legal Medical Cannabis

Image
Nashwell, the National Service for Health and Well-being, has seen
its powers increase greatly in recent years

Today, the Lord-Secretary of State, Frederick Eldridge, and the Health and Pensions Minister, William Burton, have attacked the use of medical and recreational cannabis within Capsland citing that the regulation of the drug by the country's national health service, Nashwell, has contributed to a steady decrease in productivity and an increase in crime in recent years.

The drug was legalised by the SDP-led Bryant Rennard administration in 2016 along with a Cannabis tax set by Nashwell and coordinated by the government. Currently this tax has levies just under ₡1bn and helps fund Nashwell programs around the country. It has been reported that, although the drug was legalised in 2016, consumption of the drug has stayed at same levels and has in fact seen a decrease in recent months. It was part of a program to end Capsland's drug crisis that claimed 404 lives in drug related violent attacks from 2008-2015. The program also included a needle initiative and a shift to rehabilitation within the prison system. While this has succeeded in ending the drug related crime problem, it has still come under heavy fire from the Democracy Party and Christian Democrats for being too 'drastic'.

The political attacks stem from a report published a week ago suggesting that productivity levels in Capsland have decreased drastically from the early 2000s to now. It highlighted that multiple factors may have contributed from devolution of the states to legalising recreational and medical cannabis. Lord-Minister Frederick Eldridge said the government would take the report into account and review the necessary legislature that "compromises the productivity of our economy". At the moment, the government is unable to just blanket ban the drug again due to the grace period the legislation was awarded by the Senate in 2016. The Senate gave the legislation a grace period of 3 years meaning that the legislation was protected from being repealed until 2019, this of course can be disputed and put up for review where either a majority in both houses could dismantle the grace period or the supreme court could strike it down. It is unclear with David George's sweeping reforms whether the government will try to bypass the grace period by introducing legislation to give the government the power to dismantle grace periods directly but some sources suggest the government is trying just that.

At the moment it is up in the air what the government will be planning in the coming days as David George isn't set to return from Orilya until Friday.

Economic Troubles and How We Don't Plan to Fix Them.

There's trouble brewing in the World of Eikan Economics, and leading economists say that it's only going to get worse. A lot of the problems stem from the Royal Union of Eikangaard, following its disastrous loss in the Revolutionary War which culminated in the splitting of Eikangaard's island home and the formation of the Confederation. While many have been pointing to the exorbitant value of reparations to be paid to the two victors of the war, totaling 235 Billion Skeids or 184 NSD, as it amounts to more money than the entire GDP of the country. 11% more to be specific. It has lead to a 200% increase in national taxes on average across the board, just to allow the Royal Union the ability to pay off the massive amount of national debt it has racked up to the tune of 337 Billion Skeids in total.

But this only part of the problem. While the Royal Unions national debt is remarkably high and a challenge for any country to face, it's exacerbated by the nation's reliance on foreign imports to sustain its population and lack of any real export industries which it could use to balance the budget. As such a huge portion of the National Budget, even while bolstered by a massive tax increase (which most agree will only get bigger), is being spent just to keep the nation's citizens fed, clothed, and warm. This has the result of very little of the National Budget of the Royal Union being directed to paying its debts, and is actually causing the national debt to rise by an estimated 1.3% on average annually.

What's more the nation's GDP is shrinking, and quickly. Very few of its major industries, which is centered mainly around transportation between north and south, are sustainable in the wake of a double-whammy of trade embargoes imposed on the Royal Union by the Republic and EUSR. The Republic has expressly stated that its embargo would not be lifted "until the Royal Union of Eikangaard has paid reparations owed to the Republic." The EUSR meanwhile has made it clear in no uncertain terms that its embargo would remain for the foreseeable future.

So what does that mean for the Royal Union? In short, total economic collapse. A this stage most economists agree that it's unavoidable. No amout of budget re-balancing, tax increased, trade tariffs, or combination thereof that could save the nation's economy. What about the confederation as a whole? Well already the value of the Skeid has dropped down from 0.78 NSD to 0.66 NSD over the past few months, and that downward momentum is only expected to increase as the currency is largely tied to the economy of the Royal Union. Already the EUSR has announced plans to replace the Skeid with either a currency adopted from abroad, or with a new national currency.

But then why doesn't the EUSR and Republic intervene? Well at this point, they'd be jumping on a sinking ship. There's very little that can be done with foreign investment and bailouts to fix the current situation. At best, even an economic bailout from a juggernaut like Rhodevus would only slow down the process, and would be only a massive drain on it's national budget with little payoff even in the long run. It makes such an endeavor unattractive to many, and would probably only result in their own economies suffering.

The problem doesn't stop at just the economy however. Such a breakdown will also make it hard for the Royal Union to keep people employed, and will lead to a massive amount of layoffs across the country. Most worryingly for a country already plagued by rising crime rates, in its police and military services. That means that not only will people be trying to flee the nation to search for jobs in the EUSR and the Republic, both nations will also need to worry about border security, which is a further drain on their national budgets.

And neither country can intervene directly either, for risk of violating the Confederation Charter on putting troops in another nations territory. Considering the EUSR and the Republic's track record of dialogue since the war, which can charitably be described as "non-existent", its unlikely that a coordinated effort to restore order after the collapse will happen.

To make a long story short. the Royal Union's decline is only expected to pick up steam before eventually striking rock bottom.

We can only hope that no one hands them a shovel...

WARSAW,A vegan cafe in the centre of Warsaw was shocked to find itself the subject of far-right ire after a group arrived and threw meat on patrons’ plates, leading to a public brawl.

Customers said a group entered the cafe wearing sausages around their necks and carrying slabs of meat on skewers, before attacking customers and staff.

Witnesses described the attackers as , and said the clash spilled onto the street outside after the attackers were asked to leave. Minor injuries were reported but the perpetrators fled before police arrived.

A statement issued on Facebook by the Cui Cafe on Monday as “an anti-vegan provocative action” accusing the attackers of being “Fascists” who support “Authoritarian, anti-democratic ideas”.
According to the statement, the attackers “pulled out grilled meat, sausages, and fish and started eating them and throwing them at us... they were just trying to provoke our friends and disrespect us.”

The statement also alleged that memberes of group had come to the neighbourhood a month earlier and asked a nearby hair salon owner whether the attack was warranted.
"The attack was entirely uncalled for and as disrespectful a thing to do as I can think of." the Salon owner said in a hostile tone. "These people need to remember that this is the thing that their parents fought against in 1998. and quite frankly, they were lucky I didn't come over there and kick their [expletive].
The mayor and police of Warsaw have said that they are bringing "disturbing the peace" charges on all those involved, these charges would carry a 10 month probation sentence and weekend community service for all those involved.

MDAA Returning To Western Corentian Roots As A Regional Military Organization

Image

An MDAA summit is underway in Orentan. Secretary of Sunrisia in MDAA Jéc Vírîtal and Minister of Security Armăs Fórtídâ, who are acting as the primary representatives of Sunrisia in the summit, have not yet had an opening to express too many details. However, the Secretary and the Minister did have short breaks during which they exchanged info with the journalists on what has been agreed on so far. Both officials only shared agreements that directly involve Sunrisia, since the summit also provides grounds for the 9 participating countries to advance any sort of bilateral or multilateral relations among themselves.

Speaking on changes within MDAA, Secretary Jéc Vírîtal told the press that Pantorrum’s membership withdrawal and the removal of Capsland’s associate status would both be superseded with the development of partnership relations between MDAA and the 2 Ventismarian countries, something that MDAA already shares with a number of states, including on the continent of Ventismar. This parting of ways on good terms is aligned with the new strategy of MDAA returning to being Corentia-based again, drawing clear regional boundaries and clear strategic goals instead of a continuous geographic enlargement of the organization. The summit was also used as an opportunity to ease some recently-developed tensions and that is where the Department of International Relations of Sunrisia came in. Spokesperson for the Department of International Relations Elén Spêctrá-Fâmína said that the Sunrisian Convet would be lifting the unilateral suspension of the Economic Partnership Agreement with Pantorrum, but noted that this treaty might still naturally be superseded in the future by the existing SOWEFTA–VU Free Trade Agreement after Pantorrum successfully joins the VU. With Capsland, Secretary Jéc Vírîtal said that MDAA would be building cooperation with the country in the areas of joint humanitarian efforts and security cooperation.

Meanwhile, with another Ventismarian country, a new defense treaty and military alliance has been reached. Sunrisia and South Baggnagia had signed an official Mutual Defense Treaty, fortifying the bilateral commitment to mutual defense and security. Minister of Security Armăs Fórtídâ said that in case the existing Joint Task Force (JTF), formed out of the South Baggnagian and Sunrisian armed forces, would ever have to disband, reduce numbers or limit its military strength for a geopolitical or any other reason, the Mutual Defense Treaty would serve as a document with a judicial expression of “ironclad” commitment of Sunrisia to South Baggnagian defense and security. This means that even without the JTF, the Sunrisian Defense Force (SDF) would still be personally ready to act in defense of the allied country in the face of outside aggression. Minister Armăs Fórtídâ said that this new treaty has been dedicated to the North Baggnagian regime, with a suggestion for it to rethink its steps.

With Corentian allies, Secretary Jéc Vírîtal and Minister Armăs Fórtídâ reaffirmed dedication to collective defense and the security of The Seven United. The associate status with Smoya remains intact and President Jackson Perrin and Secretary of State Carlos Martinez were reminded that the next and final step of full membership is available for Smoya in case the United Democratic Republic wishes to go through with it one day. Chancellor Calvin Aigner of Daredland was also informed that the integral progress under the MDAA–Daredland Action Plan continues successfully and diplomatic support for the territorial reintegration of Daredland will continue as well, which will remove the boundaries to accession.

These are but a few objectives achieved so far and the Sunrisian officials promise to share the remainder after the summit is concluded.

News on Eikangaard

As the Royal Union of Eikangaard plunges further and further into debt, the world economy, specifically its businesses are feeling the financial pressure. When unified, Eikangaard had been a Ventismarian headquarters for multiple mining and manufacturing companies, employing thousands. But with the separation into three independent and not friendly countries, many have already left, leaving only a few of the bigger employers. These few, however are all based in central Eikangaard, now the Royal Union.

With so much financial pressure being placed on the Royal Union, this does not make the country a good location for expanding their businesses. The time has finally come for them to seek greener pastures. Cauldron Mining Corp., an employer of 4,000 in the Royal Union has announced that it will be closing its Eikangaard HQ and moving to Umbrellya. ZLT Industries, employing 500, has decided to move its base of operations to the Republic of Eikangaard. Sound Research Limited, an employer of 2,500 has also chosen to move out of the Royal Union and into a nation in the Ventismar Union, though a location has yet to be decided on.

These are hits to the Royal Union’s employment. Will this cause other companies to leave the Royal Union, causing a potential bigger economic disaster? The answer may be right around the corner.

Bohin-Molenston Peace Talks Continue

This is the third of five scheduled peace treaty meetings, meaning that the talks should be at least half-done and nearing their conclusion. But, peace is still a long ways away. The Bohin once again rejected the demands from the allied forces, bringing forth their own terms, only to have them rejected by the allies.

Admiral-General Zaira Timmel led this meeting. Stating to the press, “The Bohin hopes to keep the land it has taken from Molenston over the course of this war. That will not happen. The fertile region which divides Molenston and the Bohin represents the lifeblood to both sides. It would need to be shared evenly among the two nations. Along the same, or near to the same borders of early 2017. Prior to this war’s commencement.

Allied forces have decided that they will no longer be pausing their advances and counter-attacks, during the meetings. War will continue indefinitely, until a treaty is signed, or the Bohin surrenders unconditionally. The Bohin’s representatives have stated that any incursions into their newly annexed territory will result in a further escalation of conflict.

As can be seen, neither side is happy with the progression of these peace talks.”

Molenstoni, Aznazian and Belantican forces have continued their push along the Sivier River back to the Bauer, to link up with Commonwealth and Rhodeve forces in the area. The Rezuan lead push towards Sugmei City continues as well, successfully counter-attacking and taking the small town of Lupfel, only 100km from the capital. Similar news for the Rhodeve lead attack towards Port Ubbeval, which has been stopped due to communication loss. New aerial and tank assaults are scheduled to be made on the jamming towers in Weia and Camp Samuel in the coming days.

Protesters in Kuzana clash with Maestrovan soldiers

13 dead and 58 injured as protests continue into the night

Kuzana Kuzani protesters ran into conflict with Maestrovan soldiers as the protests for independence have entered their second day. As citizens of Kuzan flock to the streets the presence of military personnel grows as well. Armored vehicles as well as a tank have been positioned outside of the local government facility as soldiers have blocked off streets to the buildings.

The protests grew bloody today when a group of young protesters tried to march towards the government buildings. Carrying signs, the group of some 50 or so protesters moved towards the facility through a military barricade left unattended. While the protesters neared the offices several soldiers opened fire on the citizens. As the gunshots erupted chaos ensued in the main congregation of protesters with several of the leaders motivating citizens to break through military lines and rush to the capital building.

As citizens advanced on the military barricades more soldiers began to open fire, taking down protesters and leading many of the citizens to flee the area. Sources report that around ten minutes later some 3-4 tanks took to the city streets along with a dozen armored vehicles, patrolling through the areas surrounding the government facility in Kuzan as well as some other central locations in the city. These patrolling vehicles have since left the city.

The protests in Kuzan were sparked after the government refused to allow the Kuzani people to hold an independence referendum. The referendum, set to have been held today, was deemed “unlawful and treasonous” by the president and was disallowed. Protests began yesterday and had remained peaceful until today.

Around 2 hours after the initial clashes protesters returned to the streets and have remained there since, now making sure to keep their distance from military barricades and equipment. Local news outlets predict that the number of protesters will grow exponentially tomorrow following tonight’s events with one journalist describing the events tonight as “the spark that will light the Kuzani fire.’

Nazarxon says he will end Nuclear Program if Dirkhizistan if regime is not threatened
Image
Nazarxon's Palace, Kheshkek

Koshbashi Nazarxon has said today that he plans on ending his nuclear program, if Dirkhizistan's islamic regime is assured it will not be threatened and if sanctions are lifted from Dirkhizistan. Nazarxon's nuclear program was started weeks ago but many nations have begun to put sanctions and condemn Dirkhizistan. Nazarxon says that the sanctions have caused problems for the government of Dirkhizistan alongside the people, such as people from Serysu and Tuzhz, who have suffered from a large earthquake. Dirkhizistan also says they will no longer threaten the former leaders of Dirkhizistan, still in exile in other nations after the Islamic Revolution, too. Nazarxon said however, Dirkhizistan will still support allies such as the Hizbolmarada party of Zaran. So far the nuclear program has not gone far and is still in early stages, Dirkhizistan claims that they do not have any nuclear weapons. Dirkhizistan hopes that the west will end sanctions and they will end their nuclear program.

Geography NOW! - Abuddih

Postby Nokglatia » Fri Jun 22, 2018 7:24 am

It's time to learn geography! NOW!!

Political Geography

Abuddih, is a Populist and Militarised Federal Republic in The Estoel Archipelago. It is bordered on the North by United Gishcar, East by the Waste Lands, South by Sivic Ekiotro & Sivicia & West by the Abuddihic Sea.

Abuddih is considered a Great Power, have influence across the Archipelago that's to it's status as the founder of the Garonza Pact. Abuddih is known for its advanced technology, being one of the most developed nations in the archipelago.
But what is the archipelago like?-

Physical Geography

Abuddih has three major Geographic Zones, the Mediterranean Coasts, the Qashmar Desert which makes up most of the nation, and the far eastern Temperate Grasslands. The Massive Abuddihi River Bassin is a massive collection of rivers which branch of of the main one, the Qashmar River. It is surrounded by the Qashmar Forest, which is one of the most fertile lands on the planet and is where a majority of the Abuddihi Cities are.
And in those cities are people, so that leads us to-

Demographics

The 101 Million citizens of Abuddih are mainly made up of Vexicovians, however, since the PRCs fall in 1992, the borders have opened up and many migrants came bringing their cultures with them. This is why Vexicov is such a culturally diverse nation, they speak mostly the national language of Abuddihic. Some fun facts about them is they love snails, and when they nod they mean "no".
But who do they like?-

The Friend Zone

Something that would summarize this is that they are part of the economic Garonza pact, which they use mostly for trade. Abuddih is hostile to Wiena and United Ghiscar. The nation has a few allies, but they would say that their best friend is Vexicov.

And that's Abuddih! Allentyr is next.

President Dêc Grétân And Living Former Presidents Hold A Meeting With Citizens On Reforms

Image

One of the images that has become associated with the ongoing reformist period known as the Sunrisian June or the Sunrisian Respite

The current and living former Presidents of Sunrisia had gathered in the Presidential Palace with large crowds of citizens to talk about the ongoing reformist period known by the names of the Sunrisian June and the Sunrisian Respite, discuss the future, ask and answer questions. This meeting between the Presidents and the citizens was first announced by Vice President Fógâr Nélsân during his last speech in the main square in Orentan. It was later confirmed by the press representatives for the administrations, the Ministers and finally President Dêc Grétân himself.

The fortunately long lifespan in Sunrisia has allowed for a large number of former Presidents to attend. Even the very elderly former Presidents still appeared to be in great shape, health and good spirits for their age. The only former President absent from this gathering has been President Nóv Fáustîtár, the predecessor of President Dêc Grétân and the President with whom the current head of state served alongside as VP. Former President Nóv Fáustîtár is still completing treatment for addiction in rehab. During this meeting, President Dêc Grétân had asked all his predecessors and everybody gathered to wish Former President Fáustîtár health. A portion of the meeting was attended by several Ministers and policy advisors as well, but the focus primarily was set on the interactions between the former and current national leaders, and the citizens of the Second Republic. The majority of crowds of attending citizens were composed of locals from Orentan, however, the talk with the Presidents was accessible for citizens from other parts of the country as well via digital connection and streaming, providing them with the possibility to ask questions, answer questions, encouraging debates and discussions.

The meeting is still ongoing. In one of his earlier monologues, President Dêc Grétân has declared an intention to personally tour Sunrisia to talk with citizens from all walks of life.

In other news:

  • Minister of International Relations Ectrăr Álienan: “We would support negotiations with the regime of Arni Nazarxon in Dirkhizistan on ending their nuclear program, providing security assurances and lifting sanctions. However, that negotiations process cannot begin if the Dirkhiz regime continues the human rights abuses in their country. They have to show some willingness to end oppression as well, if they want sanctions removed entirely. Ending the nuclear program will only win them the easing of sanctions, but not their complete removal.

  • Sunrisian Convet agrees to slightly lower military spending in favor of providing more funds in foreign development aid.

  • Human rights activist on higher foreign aid: “Everybody in this world deserves a chance at a better life.

  • NGOs such as HSAO, HL and WD increase cooperation with the Sunrisian government, while LC remains self-sufficient to avoid government lobbyist reputation, including for security reasons.

  • Grétân administration leads greater government investment in technological advancement.

  • Minister of Finance and Economic Development Pârsīn Sîlvá: “Our current taxation rates bring about a high development level, a social welfare model and economic output enjoyed by our citizens. The reformist government will definitely look into where it is better to spend the budget money and where the country should be investing more. Contemporary economy will also be moving away more from dependence on natural resource exports.

  • City planners and architects hope for the government to support the idea of “cyberpunk” architectural style for newer cities and to set future goals for them.

  • Ucinda, Sunrisia set to hold its first synthwave music festival amid the incoming conclusion of various cross-country rock music festivals for this season. Meanwhile, the city of Lucera is preparing for an LGBT march.

Marshall law amid protests in Kuzan

Clashes continue as protest leaders are arrested

Kuzan Protesters in Kuzan were met with armored vehicles early this morning. As the convoy of military vehicles cleared a path through the city streets voices over the loudspeakers announced that Kuzan was now in a state of marshall law, and that all protesters were to return home.

The decision to put the city into Marshall law comes after continued clashes between citizens and military personnel. Several skirmishes broke out between armed civilians and the military following the initial clashes last night, claiming 6 civilian lives and 2 military. Protesters seem to be unfazed by the order to return home, and have instead remained in the city streets. Small clashes and skirmishes between military personnel and Kuzan citizens have continued on, with an estimated 60 more being injured. Several sources have reported that upwards to around 300 people have been arrested, including most notably the arrest of the protest leaders.

Soldiers entered the homes of several protest leaders late last night and have taken these leaders to several private locations. The government has denied the protests leaders a trial and has refused to comment on the fate of those arrested. Many Kuzani citizens fear that those arrested will be executed or imprisoned for the rest of their lives. “Maestrova is a land of fear and corruption,” says one protester. “I fear for the lives of those who were taken last night.”

The Maestrovan government is notorious for their involvement in mysterious disappearances of their political opposition. Many believe that as the Kuzani independence movement grows more leaders and activists will be taken by government forces.

Nazarxon announces he will recreate the Dirkhiz Space Agency "Our nation will be in the stars"

A major announcemtn by Nazarxon this morning, today he has announced that Dirkhizistan will be recreating it's nuclear program, which was abandoned by the Federation of Dirkhizistan from 1980-1984 before being abandoned as it was too costly as well as risky and deemed pointless. Sadly Dirkhizistan never got to launch it's first rocket and is yet to have the first Dirkhiz sent to space. The abandoned Julduzöris launch station in northeast Rombadistan will be reconstructed, as it is currently an old ghost town full of what could of been Dirkhizistan's most glorious achievement. He says the program will also work the military, particular the Air Force and Missile Force branches of The DLA. They plan on even getting military strength in space as well to protect Dirkhiz interests in space in the future. Nazarxon also hopes that this could show Dirkhiz power in the world, as he now heavily considering ending his nuclear program. He thinks that instead of nukes, dominance in space will be more glorious than destruction of cities. The Dirkhiz Space Agency(DSA), will be created within the following weeks, says Nazarxon.

Desertification is a real issue, and its only getting worse

Just tomorrow, temperatures in The Bailor are forecasted to reach a high of 46 degrees Celsius. An unprecedented record breaking temperature only recorded rarely in The Trident. The high forecasts come as high pressure yet again builds over The Union, trapping air and building heat in particularly central and eastern parts. Though this isn't a weather report but a reminder to the biggest issue facing the ecology and environment of The Union.

Desertification was not a problem thirty years ago when the sands were kept in far east of The Trident. The fertile land surrounding the rivers and streams stemming from the north supplied much of The Bailor and Tridecian farms with adequate supplies of water for crops and water-supply. However things begun to change at the beginning of the century, as the 2003-05 drought proven that these rivers are not infinite. Over sixty percent of crops in The Bailor and Trident were lost in the two years as temperatures hit 50 degrees celsius in Nenahay. This would mark the beginning of the downturn of arable farming in The Bailor and the complete disappearance of it in The Trident, in which most of the land is completely unable to be farmed.

The picture is bleak. Climate change has meant that the once small Tridecian desert, is now expanding rapidly gaining entire states within a decade. Jose Cabillos, a farmer on the River Black in The Trident was our first goal in finding out the future of the Tridents remaining arable farmers. On our way from Aygon, we drove through perfectly healthy looking farmland and then when we passed the River Eurotas in the center of The Bailor, it begun looking bleak. Upon entering the official Tridecian-Bailor border we experienced our first sand-storm. We had to stop the film-crew as it had begun to get dangerous to continue driving with low to almost non-existent visibility.

Image

A whole two days of driving and we arrived in the small town of Ajablanca on the banks of the River Black. It was named The River Black because the soil here often turned black when the river flooded in its hay-days. We sat down with the elderly Jose in his modest house to conduct the interview.
"You said you used to be moderately wealthy from farming your stretch of land on the Black. How do you fare now?"

"When I said I used to be, I meant forty years ago. The rains came every year, it was a guarantee. The Palm's flourished and wildlife was everywhere, you could even hunt the birds without worrying about their numbers. We had a good sizeable house and so did everybody really, even with the civil war we didn't feel a thing. Often we couldn't find enough men or women to pick the fruits, there was that many each year we often had an overcrop. This was back in the times when we actually cut down our harvest so it was manageable to grow and pick it at the end. Ajablanca was a moderately wealthy town, much bigger than it is now.

I forgot about the question sorry! Yes I don't fare well now as I used to. I live on a state-pension and my son does the growing and picking. Ajablanca isn't known for its green pastures anymore, but I try my hardest to keep my children from losing our way of life. The last reliable rain was a few years ago and we had the first flood in a while, but it hasn't been much since. These two years have been the worst my son tells me, we get barely any berries if much at all. Sandstorms are a regular occurrence, something which would be impossible only just ten years ago. I have to sweep the sand out if I keep the doors and windows open at any time.

"What do you think is the future for Ajablanca?"

"Well, I have an interest in Mizkenij history or Mizkenijology and Ajablanca was once a prominent Mizkenij Empire border town. The main industry for Ajablanca is nolonger farming its tourism, with the Temple of the Goddess of War still standing in the centre of the city. There are plenty of other surviving monuments too that have waited this long in the town and I'd say there is more underneath the sand. If we can't make money farming then we'll make money flaunting our history. Though I show no hope for what is left of the green pastures. The desert creeps in every year, and with each dust storm more sand piles onto the black soil. It is sad but it isn't our fault it is the fault of the international world, for ignoring climate change for as long as they have.

I don't think it will get better but I hope it doesn't eradicate things completely. As long as the river flows we will continue to grow here."

A photograph of the Tridecian Desert just outside of Nenahay

Image

During our way back we encountered no more dust-storms. Instead we left with a bigger picture of the Union's ecological problems. While the stereotype that Damsmar is a complete desert isn't true, a good portion of it is becoming one. We together need to act to stop the encroachment of the sands and the destruction of ways of life on a big scale. To conclude our informative visit we went to see Chief Meteorological Officer at SunalayaMet (Lionel Costa) whom talked to us about why this area is becoming more arid. "Its all because of our changing climate, really. Sunalaya is getting warmer with each year and we are seeing records being broken consistently. There is solid proof that the cause of this is anthropogenic activities which release greenhouse gases into the air, effectively insulating us with a blanket. The Trident is particularly vulnerable to desertification because it is so flat, there isn't much in the way of geographical features to stop the rapid encroachment of sand dunes to the west which is what we see now. These two years have been particularly extreme as there has been such little rain and a stubborn strong high pressure system which blocks the formation of any clouds or features whatsoever. Humidity has also been incredibly low barring the last two days when it was high enough to spark off thunderstorms, which only uselessly brazed off the Caledonian coastline. The long term picture isn't good either but there is a small chance this anticyclone could ease to the west, and drag in a more southerly stream of air from The Sea of Damsmar which could bring in rain.""

Currently there is no effective way to stop the dunes from heading west. Many border-towns employ fences to stop sand from spreading onto soils or fields however these are not sustainable. The only solution is an international one in which we work together to halt climate change together.

Al-Haqiqa, Eranshahir Participate In Military Drills

The Two Bordering Nations have begun participating in large scale practice Military Drills Today, known as Operation Eagle. Agreed upon between the two nations, these drills see the Eranian military launching a mock invasion of Northern Al-Haqiqa, seeing several key "sectors" being taken and defended in mock battles, maneuvers and procedures by both nation's militaries.

Included in these key sectors is the town of Umm Al Jamajm, which has a population of 8,000. It's residents, who were warned of the operations months in advanced, were given the option of being evacuated to another nearby town which will not be included in the drills and put up in a hotel - paid for by the Al-Haqiqan government - for the duration of the operation, or remain and participate in the mock occupation.

These operations are to test both nation's readiness for both defensive and offensive capabilities. Later this year a second series of drills, Operation Cobra, will be launched in which the Al-Haqiqan military will go on the offensive, launching a mock invasion of southern Eranshahir. Both nation's military leader's have planned out these operations to ensure safety is its number one priority for civilians, but have stressed "realism" must be taken into consideration - they are testing the readiness and capability of their soldiers.

South Baggnagian–Sunrisian Mutual Defense Treaty gives assurance against North Baggnagian aggression

ORENTAN, SUNRISIA – South Baggnagian officials have achieved what they had promised at an MDAA summit in Orentan, Sunrisia. A better deal has been reached which would replace sought after membership in MDAA. South Baggnagia and Sunrisia had signed a Mutual Defense Treaty that commits both nations to the defense of each other against outside aggression. Together with the already existing Joint Task Force on South Baggnagian land the document solidifies the security pact. Even if the Joint Task Force would disintegrate and shared bases were closed the defense treaty still promises personal help from allied military.

Minister of Defense Branimir Vuković and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Ventismarian Integration Slavko Kastélic applauded the treaty when President Dobrin Nóvak put his signature on the paper. The president praised this as a historic day:

I think that ours is a story of success here today because we have gotten what we wanted. We had set a clear goal for ourselves and reached it. South Baggnagia is now fully guaranteed protection which means that we no longer have to live fearing the North and focus our entire time and energy on that fear. We can now move on with life and focus on our democracy, economy, reforms and the Ventismarian integration. The success of South Baggnagia will be victory for all Baggnagians on both sides of the border. Believe me our brothers and sisters in the North are watching us with high hopes.

The Mutual Defense Treaty will need approval from the Chamber of Deputies to be enacted but the South Baggnagian government plans to have a nationwide referendum on this treaty before the MPs get to it.

While The Seven United suffers from desertification, Shastara may soon feel the wrath of the sea

By: Leo Keith, SBC Port Clementine

As the sands of the Tridecian Desert blow west at an alarming rate threatening multiple cities in The Seven United, the waters of the Centismar Sea threaten to swallow large portions of our own biggest cities. And the main reason? Sunarctica. Scientists at the University of Multnomah recently released a study that only confirms the dozens of reports that came before it which stated that if greenhouse gas emissions continue at their current rate they will cause monumental and irreversible increases in sea levels. They concluded that if these levels continue that Sunalaya’s oceans could face a two meter rise by 2035 and a stunning 15 meters by 2100. This study paints a far grimer future then any previously released study as we have even less time then the previously predicted 2150 deadline for the 15 meter rise. This projection nearly doubles the prior estimates of sea level rise which had relied on a minimal contribution from Sunarctica.

Now what does this mean for Shastara? Well as of June 2018 about 31 million people live in Shastara’s major coastal metro areas. Those being Port Clementine, Evergreen, Jalandaq, and Gwastad. Multnomah University Professor Keagan Everett had this to say about the damage:

“First we will see that by 2025 flooding in Gwastad will become a nearly weekly occurrence and by 2030 it is probable that if we do nothing like levees or dams the city will have to be abandoned. So now we have five million people needing to be relocated. Also by 2030 areas like Spruceland, Sunnyvale, and much of the eastern end of the Clementine Bay will have flooded extensively. Now the hills are such in Port Clementine and Evergreen proper that only the waterfronts will be gone at this stage. Clacaster by 2030 will be experiencing flooding downtown practically every spring and fall.”

“Now by 2050 all of Scotia will be underwater which will displace another 880,000. All of Spruceland will be flooded out displacing another 2 million people, most of the Evergreen and Port Clementine waterfronts will be permanently underwater, Evergreen proper will become a chain of islands as the higher burrows will be cut off from each other, and about 60% of Clacaster will be gone as well.”

“And finally by 2100 Scotia will be just a memory, only the rusting frames of skyscrapers will be poking about above the waters in Clacaster, Evergreen will be split up in about a dozen different islands, the entire Clementine Bay Area will have to be relocated, and about 80% of Jalandaq will be gone as well. This total will displace about 46% of our entire population from our coastal cities alone. Don’t forget that when the sea rises so do our rivers. Neither Portland or Astoria escape this catastophe unscsathed. The displacement from the rise of the Armstrong River will displace another 20 million. And then where will we go? By 2100 Centrallia and the Cascade states will be grossly overpopulated to unsustainable levels. And that’s not even taking into account immigration and population growth.”

Professor Everett states that it is too late now to avoid the 2035 water rise however if we act now by curbing our emissions we can settle for a 4 meter sea rise by 2100 instead of the insane 15 meters predicted by Everett. Ways you can help to reduce your carbon footprint include carpooling, taking public transit whenever possible, add solar panels to your home, buy energy efficient appliances, and flying less. The Professor has a full list which is available on the Multnomah State University website. He left me with a quote which I think would be nice to end on, “If not now when?”

World Court Announcement

ChiefJustice of the United Sunalayan Assembly, Judge Henry Jax has issued his first public statement about multiple USA resolutions. Clearing up arguments as well as suggesting changes to past resolutions.

“Having discussed with multiple judges working alongside me in the World Court, we sat down to determine the legality of actions made by multiple nations around the world. The first resolution we looked at, was Resolution 1, written by the Ambassador from Lindenholt. The reason for this review of the oldest resolution in the USA, was to finally clear up the legality of the Ventismar Union’s tax laws in the Umbrelliet Strait, as well as the locations of future taxable areas. In a vote of 5 to 2, the VU’s taxing was deemed legal under Resolution 1 and International Law.

The main divide came from two points made in the law. The first being the point of ‘Innocent Passage’. This point states that passage is allowed in the waters of territorial, contiguous and exclusive economic, ‘which is not prejudicial to the peace, good order or the security of the coast state.’ The basis for the claim against the legality of the VU’s taxation and registration law, is whether the movement of any and all military vessels constitutes prejudicial to peace, good order or security. It was debated whether or not expeditious and quick travel satisfied this requirement or not. It was decided and voted on, that, no. Quick travel through these waters are not the only requirement of this law, as it does not confirm the security of the coastal state. Thus, the registration of military vessels passing through these waters is legal and just.

The second debated point was that of the extent of the Contiguous Zone of Umbrellya. If the Contiguous Zone of Umbrellya did not fully encompass the strait, then the taxation of ships is legal, but in a limbo-state, as ships could still legally bypass the taxes by going through the areas not a part of this taxable zone. To tax a ship not in the contiguous zone or closer to the shore, is still illegal by Resolution 1.

The matter was quickly resolved when viewing the islands which dot the center of the strait. As Umbrellya borders both sides of the strait as well as islands which close up any potential openings, the taxes are legal throughout the strait. Looking at straits between Allentyr and Capsland as well as Capsland and Lindenholt, these straits also comply with the law and should the Ventimar Union enforce Strait taxes, all would be seen as legal by the World Court.

For future taxation of straits by any USA member state, it should be made sure that taxable locations are documented.

The second topic of discussion was that of Resolution 26; Anti-Nuclear Expansion, written by Julia Hart, Ambassador from Rhodevus. This topic was brought about as to the legality of the movement of nuclea weapons onto embassy grounds. The question was raised; do embassy grounds, constitute sovereign territory of the nation which whom the embassy belongs? Further, are nuclear weapons allowed to be placed in these lands, whether or not they constitute sovereign territory.

Both questions revolve around Resolution 26 and the ambiguity of a single point made, ‘Mandating that all nuclear weapons, biological weapons and chemical weapons that are stationed in or on foreign soil be removed’. The reason this clause is ambiguous, is that the resolution states the removal of all weapons stationed. It leads to the confusion of the English language, whether or not this clause means currently stationed, or any possible time of stationing.

Discussed by the World Court, it was decided that, as this resolution is still in effect and has not been repealed, it means currently stationed. As in, this resolution forces the removal of stationed weapons as long as the resolution is in effect. With this portion of the law cleared up, it brings up the secondary point of, if an embassy constitutes sovereign soil or sovereign land. This is a major point. As embassy’s are the sovereign land of the nation with which the embassy is from. But, is this the same as sovereign soil? This had widespread effects, if the embassy-holder owns the soil for which it’s embassy is location, all land is theirs, as is already known, but so too is what is underneath. If gold, diamond or other such valuables is underneath, is it the property of the embassy-holder or that of the nation which the embassy is located? As this resolution states, all weapons in or on foreign soil must be removed, not foreign land.

Looking through the Resolutions of the General Assembly, there are no laws which make clear this distinction. So, a proposal was voted on by the World Court to determine what to suggest the General Assembly in a future resolution.
In a 4-3 vote, this is what was decided. A resolution should be drafted describing the goals and legal writes of embassies and those of which the embassy is owned by.

Particularly, the embassy is Sovereign Land of the embassy-holder. This is defined as the surface level for which the embassy is placed, including the buildings and parking within the embassy compound, as defined by the laws of each individual nation. Air space below 1000 feet is a part of this sovereign zone. Above is sovereign airspace of the nation with which the embassy is in.
Nuclear, Biological and Chemical weapons are illegal on all embassy land, as per Resolution 26, they are banned on and in all foreign soil. As Resolution 26 states, these weapons are ON foreign soil, making them illegal on all embassy zones.
This should be duplicated for consulates as well.”

“More discussions were held on further resolutions, but until voting has taken place on what we have decided as their legality as well as creation of our own suggestions, we will keep those to ourselves.”

Independence protests shut down by military

Sources report independence leaders have been executed

Kuzan The protests in Kazan have finally come to an end following the President’s new order. Military personnel, tanks, and armored vehicles have taken to the streets of Kuzan and forced protesters to return home. Protesters who have refused to stop have been arrested, with several local news outlets reporting anywhere from 200-500 arrests have been made. Sources also have reported that the leaders of the independence movement in Kuzan that were taken by the military have been killed by government officials, although whether or not this is true is yet to be confirmed.

The protests in Kuzan, lasting around 5 days, began after the government denied the people of Kuzan to hold a referendum. The scheduled day of the referendum protests began in the city, which were immediately met with soldiers arriving in the government facilities in Kuzan. Protests grew violent when soldiers fired on civilians approaching the government buildings. Protesters responded with their own attacks on the soldiers, resulting in several military casualties and several dozen civilian deaths. As the violent protests carried on the military took control of the city and began its Marshall Law. As more soldiers arrived the situation only grew worse and protesters and soldiers continued to have clashes throughout the city. Finally, President Ikonov has ordered that the military ends the protests in the city. The city now has a huge military presence with reports of up to two brigades being present in the city streets. Much of Kuzan has now grown quiet- people only leave their homes if necessary, with many workplaces closed.

Many fear that the protests may escalate into a rebellion and start a war for independence, but to some it seems now as if the independence movement is slowly dieing. “The huge presence of the Maestrovan military in [Kuzan] is overwhelming” says political expert Artem Ilognonin. “Frankly, if there even was any group of groups interested in taking up arms against the government, they definitely have changed their minds now. There’s no way that the people of Kuzan could wage a war on their own and stand a chance.”

The Kuzani football club FK Kuzan has been suspended from Maestrovan Premier League play and the government is contemplating banning the club as punishment for the deaths of the Maestrovan soldiers in Kuzan. FK Kuzan finished 2nd last season in the league, only two points away from league winner Chernomorets Novorossiysk. Kuzan are one of the favorites to win it next year, and, if they faced a ban, it would completely change the 2018/2019 season.
