MATO Military Exercises Begin Today

Today marks the beginning of the annual MATO military exercises, taking place within Ironcastle. In addition to MATO, several other nations are participating this year, including Sibaria, Daminy and, for the first time, Platacia. Sources within the Ironian military report that the exercises will include a large-scale wargame involving mixed units of different nationalities, which is another first for the exercises.

[Banana Federation]

MATO Military Exercises, north of Lacrea:

A mixed squad of Bananish, Scuroian and Ironian troops are performing a mock naval invasion on the Ironian coast.

Colonel Sanders: Ready men, prepare for landfall!

Bananish Soldier: Why are we being led by a colonel?

Ironian Soldier: Yeah you'd think that's a bit high of a rank.

Colonel Sanders: Now, men! Charge!

The squad assaults the beach, alongside several friendly squads, defeating several Bananish BMDs and Ironian soldiers acting as OPFOR, but taking three "losses" in the process.

Colonel Sanders: A flawless success!

Private McDonald: Sir, we lost three men, that wasn't flawless.

Colonel Sanders: No, we lost three liabilities, and as such are now stronger than ever!

Bananish Soldier: Sir, I don't think that's how this works.

Colonel Sanders: No? Well this way, every defeat we suffer is a victory. Maintaining morale is key. I don't expect you to understand, but you should follow my superior experience.

Private Ronald: Isn't this your first time, you know, leading troops?

Colonel Sanders: Quiet, you.

[Platacia]

MATO Military Exercises:

Generals from Platacia, Sibaria, Ironcastle and Morke are in a command centre, planning for the initial stages of the war games.

Sibarian General: We should make use of these two armoured brigades in a rapid assault to encircle the enemy here and force a surrender.

General Bergesen: That will never work, the river crossing alone will prevent rapid movement, not to mention how much our lines would be stretched. We should launch a light infantry attack to cross the river and infiltrate enemy defences, causing chaos before a second, larger assault.

Sibarian General: That is ridiculous, the losses would be far too great and prevent us from capitalising on any victory we might achieve, and that's not even accounting for the organisational problems that infiltration would cause.

General Bergesen: Organisational problems? That's your excuse? Or are you simply too cowardly to realise that higher casualties for us means higher casualties for the enemy.

The argument continues between the Platacian and Sibarian generals, as their Ironian and Morkeian counterparts look on.

Morkeian General: So we're just going to use overwhelming fire like you usually do, right?

Ironian General: Yeah, pretty much.

[Sibaria]

North of Lacrea

In an apparent show of strength, a Sibarian An-225 flies overhead, emitting a large roaring sound above as it begins its landing. General Kozlov looks up and smiles

Platacian General: Well, are you compensationg for something?

General Kozlov: Listen here, the beautiful An-225 is the largest plane out there, and is extremely useful. I don't see the Platacians with a uber cool, big plane like us! Plus, with this extra equipment, there is no other choice but to use Deep Battle tactics!

[Ironcastle]

An Ironian general interrupts.

Ironian General: Irregardless of your tactics, forces under my command will be employing superior firepower to win the day. We've got the artillery and close air support all lined up already.

[Sibaria]

Kozlov looks at the Ironian general with glee

General Kozlov: Artillery? I love big guns. You, my friend, have my respect.

[Platacia]

General Bergesen: Artillery may be effective in these open fields, but when we reach the forests and urban environments, our infantry will be forced to move into close quarters, and your tanks and planes will be useless.

Bergesen walks up to the battle map on the table between the generals.

General Bergesen: This river is similar to the Adfeling north of Kysten. I recommend sending marines to cross the river and establish a beach head for larger troops movements to cross afterwards.

[Ironcastle]

Ironian General: I suggest we use our superior fire support capabilities to annihilate enemy positions defending the bridges, then capture those. In addition, our Marshalls and Gorgons can ford the rivers and deploy supporting troops.

The general looks at Kozlov.

Ironian General: Kozlov, what do you think is our best course of action?

[Sibaria]

General Kozlov: I believe we use a combined effort from your support to destroy the defences on the bridges, then quickly storm them while they are in a state of confusion with our tanks, while Platacia's infantry and our MSE-3's ford the river at once. If we combine our efforts at the same time, then their forces will be confused and overwhelmed.

[Platacia]

General Bergesen: This plan may work, although we should be cautious, as previous wars have shown we must be quick to assault immediately after the bombardment stops, so as not to allow the enemy time to regroup and prepare a defence.

[Ironcastle]

Ironian General: An assault is unnecessary and will cause extraneous casualties. We simply need to hold the bridge and let our armour pin the enemy down while our APCs move to their rear and cut them off.

[Sibaria]

General Kozlov: Hmmmm, that should work. It's not to my taste, but it should work fine. I support this plan.

[Ironcastle]

High above the exercises below, in an Ironian V-44 Blackfish.

Paratroopers from a multitude of Moneylanian nations are sitting in the Blackfish, preparing their final checks on their equipment. An Ironian sergeant walks up and down, inspecting the troops.

Ironian Sergeant: Are we all good, troops?

Paratroopers: Sir, yes sir!

The sergeant starts to sing.

Ironian Sergeant: "He was just a rookie trooper and he surely shook with fright."

The other Ironian troops in the hold join in.

Ironian troops: "He checked off his equipment and made sure his pack was tight."

[Sibaria]

Above the skies

Sibarian paratrooper: What about this song?! *In Sibarian* Hello from the sky!

The other Sibarians join in, all singing in SIbarian.

Sibarian troops: Ultramarine-coloured, cocked beret, striped vest and naval epauletes, the paratrooper is forever betrothed to the sky!

[Ironcastle]

The Ironian troops start singing louder.

Ironian troops: "He had to sit and listen to those awful engines roar. You ain't gonna jump no more."

[Sibaria]

The Sibarian troops start singing even louder.

Sibarian troops: *In Sibarian* How many victories? A white bouqquet of parachutes! A soaring dome a rainbow peace! Glory to the paratrooper, Honour and Praise!

[Ironcastle]

The Ironians keep getting louder.

Ironian troops: "Gory, gory, what a hell of way to die! Gory, gory, what a hell of way to die!"

The transport hits turbulence, but it doesn't dissuade the Ironians.

Ironian troops: Gory, gory, what a hell of way to die! He ain't gonna jump no more!"

[Sibaria]

The Sibarians match the loudness of the Ironians

Sibarian troops: Tough guys, all across the nation, who are joined in friendship. Such brotherhood is a dependable shield, no one will ever defeat Sibaria!

[Ironcastle]

The light in the cabin turns red, and the Ironians stand up.

Ironian troops: "'Is everybody happy?' cried the sergeant looking up. Our hero feebly answered, 'Yes', and then they stood him up."

[Sibaria]

The door opens slowly as the Sibarian's look outside towards the skies

Sibarian troops: *In Sibarian* In hot spots, mountains and forests, the paratrooper leads the whirlwind attack! The downpour crashes suddenly down, and the only bet is life on a life!

[Ironcastle]

The Ironians are ready to jump.

Ironian troops: "He jumped into the icy blast, his static line unhooked. And he ain't gonna jump no more."

The light turns green, and the Ironians rush out the door.

[Sibaria]

The Sibarians prepare to jump.

Sibarian troops: *In Sibarian* How many victories? A white bouqquet of parachutes! A soaring dome a rainbow peace! Glory to the paratrooper, Honour and Praise!

The Sibarians jump out of the plane.

Sibarian troops: Urrrrrraaaa!!!!!

[Banana Federation]

In the Ironian Blackfish:

The Bananish And Scuroian troops watch the Ironians and Damanian rush out the door.

Bananish Soldier: Finally some peace and quiet.

Scuroian Soldier: Can you not hear the helicopter blades?

Bananish Soldier: A hyperbole. Or figure of speech, or something. Anyway let’s jump

The BFSCM forces jump out the door.

CSM: Kept you waiting, huh? It is a pretty secure facility any ideas?

Tamrah, deep in LJPA occupied territory
After months of infiltrating a secret LJPA base in search for the lost nuclear arsenal, Hawk has dire news to report to Op40 Command.

Hawk: Sir? Its me.

Op40 Command: Report.

Hawk: It's bad. It is much worse then we thought. Good news is we now know who has the lost nuclear weapons. The bad news is that the LJPA has them. The even worse news is that they have more then anticipated and are scattered all around the Akir Desert. And the scariest news, they have the means to launch them and are planning too within the coming year.

Op40 Command: Agent, how sure are you on this? These are massive claims and if true, we must set up our efforts immediately to locate these weapons and to wipe out the LJPA head figures.

Hawk: I am sure, I have documents to prove that.

Op40 Command: I will inform General Kozlov and President Stojanovic immediately. This is worse then we thought.
