The Heaviest day of fighting so far in the 2-year Arendslaand Civil War has seen the deaths of 21 Royal Uitbregeni Army during a series of night assaults by units of the AOA (Arendslaand Orange Army) against a number of RUA & AGF positions along the Spitzkorn river.
The assaults happened after AGF forces had made several of their own aggressive forrays into AOA territory, with Artillery strikes from a number of hidden positions within the deep forest which line the riverbanks and beyond proceeding a large amphibious and ground assault on bases in Wolmaranstraad and elsewhere.
The RUA Operating Bases Tiger (in Wolmaranstraad), Eagle & Rock Lizard (both in Stelmannskop), which house over 1,500 RUA Troops, came under attack shortly after midnight, in the gap between two patrols, leaving many of the stationed troops off guard and relaxing or sleeping. The AOA troops crossed the river under ferocious artillery fire, which dealt severe damage to the structures within and around the base, allowing over 900 AOA troops to breach the perimiter walls.
The following firefights claimed the lives of 21 RUA troops & 104 AGF troops, with the casualties coming from the 9th Denvargen Rifles, 156th Kulisberg Recon. Division & Royal Engineering Corps IV. Wolmaranstraad was also shelled heavily, as well as the nearby towns of Stelmannskop and Viljoenstaad, whilst AGF airbases and river ports along the Spitzkorn where also damaged.
The AOA attacks were repelled after several hours of intense fighting, thanks to drafted Helicopter support from the main RUA base at Mariusfontein, 50 miles away from the capital, and deep within AGF territory. The AOA forces were repelled back over the river, with casualties estimated at 250, with over 400 captives taken.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jens de Boer, has once again reinstated his support for the government of Arendslaand, saying that RUA troops will remain in the country until the conflict is resolved, and that he will step up the current number of troops to 4,000 top help with the developing humanitarian crisis in Arendslaand.
