The Era of Princes and Warlords

Postby Cranaeia » Mon Mar 25, 2013 11:41 am

OOC: This is an historical thread - set between 31 BC and 817 AD. The time coresponds to the historica eras known as, Classical antiquity and Late Antiquity. Although the key events are mainly internal matters from Cranaeian history, others are welcome to participate as the form of their nation. If you have ideas, please TG me, or feel free to jump in, but make sure if you do that its In character.

The Era of Princes was a period in Cranaeian history when the empire was being destroyed by conflicts between warlords, most of whom were Kings. The Iberian Emperor was reduced to little more than a figurehead confined to the capital city of Pella and later to Perseapolis when the capital was moved, and both society and culture stagnated.

Religious conflict both within the Cranaeian Orthodox Church and with Cranaeian Muslims and other religious minorities were often used as a pretext for the powerful to battle each other. The wars often raged on for years and with no real winner.

Ship in the Mési̱gaió̱n Sea, coast of Néa Aígyptos, the Cranaeian Isles- June 16 30 BC
Caesarion had been traveling for several months when land was sighted. As if by luck the ship that was carying the children of Cleopatra VII, had some how managed to get inside the Mési̱gaió̱n Sea, sea located in the middle of the Cranaeian isles, also if by magic or luck, the fleeing members of Clepatra VII's court sighted a land, egyptians had reached over three thousand years ag naming it New Egypt or, Néa Aígyptos.

Captain Apollodorus, close friend of Cleopatra VII, rushed into the cabin that Cleopatra VII's four cildren had been assigned. Caesarion the eldest was awake and reading a letter his mother had written to some Emperor, named Demetrius IV of a far away place called Iberia. Captain Apollodorus on entering the room, bowed before the son of Caesar and said, "Your Majesty we have sighted land, the local we picked up tells me that the land they call New Egypt, has not had a king in over fifty years"

Caesarion, a handsome young man, tall, strong, and with his mother's features, and with bronzed skin, similar to a person of mixed ancestry, his mother being greek and native egyptian while his father being roman. Caesarion quickly rose to his feet, and cried, "Tell them that Zeus-Amun, king of the Gods has answered their prayers and has gven them a king."

Apollodorus, opened the door to the cabin, than spoke, "No my lord, mighty Zeus, the thundermaker as given them a god among men"

Caesarion blushed, "Apollodorus you flatter men"

Apollodorus responded, "A King deserves to be flatterd, if only your Mother was here to see how much you have grown into a man"

The Ship finally landed on the coast of Néa Aígyptos. When the other two hundred ships landed on the coast and all the people got out, the number was 500,000 total people. Caesarion summoned his friend Theron, he met Theron inhis tent.

Caesarion spoke, "Theron Iam planning on staying here the city I will build here shall be called New Alexandria and I want you to design it, also I want you to build a Mausoleum for Alexander the Great, my mother entrusted me with his mummy before we left Alexandria"

Theron, was stuned,"Your Majesty Iam truly honoured I shall begin work at once"

"Good" said Caesarion

Meanwhile the letter his mother had written to the Emperor of Iberia was sent to Pella, capital ofthe Iberian Empire, and seat of the court of Emperor Demetrius IV. The messenger arrived three months later in Pella....

Solomonid Palace in Pella, capital of the Iberian Empire-25 August 30 BC
The mesenger from New Alexandria reached the capital of the great and mighty Iberian Empire in the midst of the Festival of Zeus Olympios. On normal days when a festval was not being held the city of Pella had anywhere between 800,000 people to 1.5 million people. The city's population had swollen to almost 5 million people, making any other city look like a village compared to it. Pella like all other cities of its size and magnitude was filthy, the slums of Pella were crawling with every unsightly thing, such as brothels, slave quarters, and the whole city one would always find a rat, because rats roamed the city unhindered.

Just like Rome Pella was built on seven hills, they are Días, Solomon, Perseus, Heraclius, David, Cranaus, and Pelias.

The messenger was escorted into the large and sumptuous Solomonid Palace, located in the heart of the city atop the Solomon Hill, the nicer part of the city, around the Solomon Hill and the Días Hill. The Solomonid Place is a complex of Palaces, there are the the Domus Salamonis, Domus Cranaus (House of Cranaus) is a enormous, lavishly ornamented palace south of the Domus Flavian and is the Iberian Emperor’s primary residence, Domus Flavian (House of Flavian) is more commonly used for purposes of state.

The Emperor Demetrius IV was pleased to here from Caesarion. He sat on his throne. He greeted the messenger from Caesarion with open arms, "Your people, they are from egypt right?"

The messenger nodded.

Demetrius IV continued to speak, "Iam greatly troubled by the news of Octavian's defeat of Cleopatra VII and Mark Antony at Actium. I assure you that that Roman dog will not find you here in the Cranaeian Isles!, The Iberian Empire might speak latin but we are no friends to the romans." I will be sending my daughter, Arsinoe, back with you, so thatshe may become Caesarion's Queen and wife."

The Messenger thanked Emperor Demetrius IV, who invited him to a lavish banquet. At the banquet the messenger met Queen Nicaea Princess Arsinoe and the other members of Demetrius IV's court, General Perdiccas, General Cretheus, General Antipater, General Attalus, General Parmenion, General Eumenes, Aristander the seer, the noblemen Aeschines, Callias, Demosthenes, Cleitus, Philoxenus, Philip, Nicanor, Stasanor, Sibyrtius, Audata, Phila, Philinna, and Eurydice.
