GREETINGS TO YOU.
This is an official notice from the Bureau for the Prevention of Illegal Activity.
Having discovered your extraordinary abilities in your particular area of expertise, we wish to inform you of an opportunity a character of your caliber would be foolish to ignore.
The Confederate States of Halestock, as you may be aware, is a recent addition to the world stage, having only recently become an independent nation. This means that economic and cultural links to the other nations of the world have sprung up instantaneously. However, links of a less admirable nature have also developed.
Alongside the modern technology developing our nations wild frontiers, making us industrially capable and making life considerably better for the citizens of Halestock, modern technology also allows for the globalisation of the criminal element. The unexplored frontiers of our nation unfortunately harbour many a fugitive, including foreign nationals. Many criminals have fled overseas. Crime of a more serious nature, such as human and arms trafficking, abduction, terrorism, assassination, international gang warfare and airship piracy to name a few, are now appearing more and more on our shores.
This, we cannot allow. As the criminal element modernises and becomes more ruthless than it has ever been, we too shall evolve. To fight a more global breed of crime requires a more global breed of crimefighter. A crimefighting agency with a wide variety of experts, each bringing with them a skill that will prove indispensable to the prevention of illegal activities.
And this is why we have chosen you.
We, the 'Bureau for the Prevention of Illegal Activites' as our full titles goes, wish to recruit you for the unmatched skill you have been witnessed to possess.
We are not a government agency. They acknowledge our existence as a private security body, and have every intention of utilising our skills to create a safer nation. We will be offered contracts, and the government will agree to allow us to work without interference however we see fit. However, I must stress that as lawmen, it is our duty not to break the laws we seek to uphold. Without good cause, of course.
There exists a vast possibility for the creation of great wealth working on government and private contracts both in Halestock and abroad. There exists an even greater possibility of adventure in the course of creating a better world.
This is your choice. Destroy this letter, and continue with your life as though you never read it. Or, as I hope you shall, put this down and take the next airship to Mercy, Halestock. If so, then I hope to see you at 'Madam Burnetts Floral Arrangements' on Lawrence Street by 12:00 next Monday.
Regards.
A. Burnett.
Greetings! Welcome to the Interest thread!
So, to put it in its simplest form, 'The Bureau' is a police/Mercenary RP set in the nation of Halestock, a steampunk nation with influences drawn from turn-of-the-century America, Victorian Britain and the American West. While the Bureau itself is based in the sprawling riverside capital of Mercy, expect to find locations ranging from dark and mysterious cities full of factories, frontier towns where law is upheld by the gun and noose, vast mountain ranges and murky swamps to name a few locations I intend to take this RP to.
As it is a Steampunk RP beginning in the year 1890, it will use the combination of PT and a variety of technology realistically unavailable for decades hence.
Cases will vary in crime and content, but ideally I want cases to be quite dark in theme, as it makes for a more interesting RP!
I would enjoy to have cases pitched to this thread by Bureau members if it gathers enough interest, and these cases will be noted at the end of this opening post. Voting on which case to do next is encouraged!
So, as for rules, I only have a few brief ones:
- 1. Even if the subject matter is dark and adult, if possible keep the language reasonably clean. No need to swear for swearings sake.
2. Avoid one line posts like the plague. They can kill a good RP.
3. Try and be supportive of the other RPers. What goes around...
4. Keep it reasonably serious folks. Humour is fine, but lets not get carried away.
