Got an application for us to ponder about?

Some where around here... oh there it is!

Character Name: Ryan Vulpes
Age: 23
Gender: M
Skin Color: Mediterranean White/ Tanned White
Height: 5 Foot 4 1/2 inches
Weight: 140 Lbs
Eye Color: Green
Hair Color: Black/ Dark Brown

Powers: Illusion Generation
Description of Powers: He has the ability to generate three dimensional images out of a non-corporeal smoke substance. Size is not a limiting factor, within reason (i.e. He can't create an illusion the size of a planet, but a small building is no problem). He can make them almost instantaneously, and needs to have seen an object to create it. He can make the images move, though for more complex structures (such as human decoys) he needs considerably more concentration. This is also a soul based power.

Abilities: Pick-pocketing, above average flexibility, multilingual (French, Italian, Spanish, English), Gifted Pianist, Good Cold Reader, Ventriloquy
Weaknesses: Poor communication skills, low intellect due to lack of schooling

Short Biography: Orphaned in Madrid at the age of 5 by a car crash, Ryan grew up on the streets, honing and using his ability in street performance to gain money to eat. Through the years his reputation as a street magician gained him the title the "Smoke Prince", making reference to the material his illusions are made out of. Ryan makes enough money from his shows to afford a loft in the slums of Marseilles.

I for one do not approve, unless you can convince me how an orphan bum with no schooling, low intellect, and poor communication skills someone manages to know three foreign languages, ventriloquy, piano, and human social behavior.

In Alice's defense, I personally know pianists who play by ear, not teaching. ventriloquy is mostly self taught, nothing but oral skills and puppeteering. Human social behaviour: actually surprisingly easy once you know that all humans have motivations and fears. As for the foreign languages, I guess that needs some explaining.

Aggy: He knows the languages because he's lived in those countries for years at a time, he plays by ear, he is a good cold reader because he was taught cold reading by an ex con he did shows with, and vantriliquy is a self taught skill.

Aye. I also do not agree. To be multilingual and to know all these skills, the man must have had some form of education. Also, even if he lived in these places, he would have a hard time picking up the language. The piano, and puppetry I can let that go.

I know the language thing from experience. It's by no means easy to learn foreign languages, even after spending time in various countries. Furthermore, people who by ear I would never describe as gifted. Skilled perhaps if they have a natural talent, but formal instruction is needed before any gifted connotation can be given. Ventriloquy I can give. Pick pocketing makes sense.

multilingual (French, Italian, Spanish, English). Alice never said he was fluent. Furthermore, you appear to be judging by today's RL standards, not the IC standards of advanced technology. Already today in RL they've made breakthroughs in language learning so it isn'tso hard. In a world like FoG, it's likely to be even easier. Especially in a world of super-powers, where gifted psychics can chart the workings of the human mind easier and in turn speed up the education process. Finally, I know for a fact, that in slums one can afford a computer and an internet connection. A debit card is all that's needed to purchase things online, such as language learning software. Did you consider that?

Gifted Pianist, to this objection I give you Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

He isn't fluent, he knows conversational aspects of the languages, nothing more. And there have been musical prodigies who have had no formal lessons.
