Valtos, Valinor — Perhaps fulfilling the Government's worst fears, Royal Guard units on Gael found out two days ago that despite nearly twenty years since they left, the DLF remains and will fight them inch for inch for the island. Early on June 3rd, members of the 1st Battalion of the 5 Guards Brigade deployed to the island to protect the trainee's and trainers of OP CARETAKER in Fort Leye were dispatched to three settlements in the nearby vicinity of the fort to recon the situation of the island and at each town, the Guardsmen encountered a determined and moderately sized insurgent garrison. All three settlements were eventually under Royal Guard control by the dawn of June 4th but not without significant loss; 35 Valinese Guardsmens were killed collectively across the three battles, in return more then 300 dead insurgents were collected, and significant damage to the town of Glendale was registered, with rumors of significant civilian loss however the Royal Guard has declined to comment at the moment.
Colonel General Erin Inglott, commanding officer of the 5 Guards Brigade and Operation Red Spade overall has released a short statement stating that the Guard would be working to establish an intelligence network within the island to help prevent a failure like what occured on the 3rd; the Guard was under the impression the DLF had collapsed over the time and establishing control over the island would take a full week, maximum, a goal now tossed to the wind. Their new road plan is using the Navy's 2nd Carrier Strike Group and elements of the 1st Division embarked with said group to conduct an amphibious assault on an island north of Gael which hosts Alfheim Air Force Base, a former Valinese Air Force base used to house interceptors and craft designed to counter any Orlessian attempt, but the base was abandoned when the Guard withdrew in 1997. Once the base is secure, the 82nd Fighter Group and the CSG-2 will help the Guard establish complete air superiority over the island and from there they are hoping it will be a quick fight to secure all of Gael's major cities.
