ANTIYTIA, Anikatia — In joint press conferences the nations of Anikatia, Minnysota, Tuzbekistan and Valinor announced the creation of the Association for Regional Cooperation & Security. (ARCS) This new alliance is seen by many as the spiritual successor to the Council for Mutual Security and Association (CMSA) which after a brief existence merged with the Skanderan Union to form the Organisation of South-Eastern Nations. (OSEN)
However a lack of unity among members led to a divided and highly ineffective organisation, that last week broke apart due to internal problems. Accusations that the OSEN was a paper tiger have followed the organisation since it failed to intervene in any of the major conflicts arising from its sphere of influence. This lack of action led many to claim that OSEN was more talk than action, and the divided yet Skanderan focused leadership led to problems that ultimately led to the nations of Anikatia and Valinor which were both founding members of the CMSA, to withdraw from OSEN and form a new alliance.
ARCS is seen as new way to avoid the pitfalls of OSEN and provide clearer and more focused aims. Such as the protection of Eastern Pardes from harmful influence. Like the unwarranted and illegal invasion of Albiya by Tarsas and the Ulthrannic Empire which have damaged the stability and peace in the region. Anikatia has been an outspoken critic of the aggression in Albiya, as member of ARCS sees the organisation as a way to help solve and prevent future problems that could harm the regional power balance.
The new alliance as already pushing for action to be taken to limit the devastation caused the by the Albiya conflict, which has already created a humanitarian crisis with many sources reporting over a million people displaced and thousands of refugees taking to illegal smuggling, seeking a better life in nations across the Central ocean, particularly Anikatia.
This has placed considerable strain on Anikatian borders and immigration forces. President Sui as also announced in conjunction with the alliance that there would be a major boost in spending towards the armed forces particularly the navy to cope with this flood of asylum seekers. Saying “ARCS is a cornerstone for peace and stability to our region and will help end this humanitarian crisis and stop the boats.”
The new alliance is also set to boost economic development and trade between members along with the proposed free trade zone within member states. It aims to boost economic development and promote cooperation and mutual assistance between members on matters of common interest. Along with joint funds for collaborative training and research facilities and better utilisation of agriculture and industry to raise living standards, social progress and cultural development.
While the organisation seeks to prevent overt influence from outside powers, it does seek to maintain and expand ties with existing international organisations with similar aims and purposes. Unlike other major alliances such as the Central Defence Initiative (CDI) or Romulă Cooperation Organisation (RCO) which are global in scope. ARCS seeks to defend a well defined area of the far east which according to the treaty covers Ashizwe, Azumakya, Kasaishima and Borea along with the major surrounding oceans within those areas. It seeks not only to defend and provide economic development and trade within these zones but to also preserve and promote the unique Eastern Pardesi cultures across the globe.
The current positions within the alliance will be filled provisionally during and until the setup of the organisation is complete, then a new round of votes will determine the composition. Vidar Thorsen of Valinor was elected by the delegation as the first Chairperson. Cho Jeong-se of Anikatia will take the provisional Secretary-Generalship winning the election in 2 ballots while the other member of the Valinese delegation, Eilert Ragnvald, has been elected as the provisional Deputy Secretary-General.
Despite the temporary status of the positions both the Chairperson Thorsen and Secretary-General Cho released a joint statement detailing the exact caretaker nature of the positions to alleviate any fears over Anikatian and Valinese control of the organisation's leadership positions.
While Pardes newest alliance only has four members at the signing of the Treaty of Azkaban. Reports have already begun to spread that ARCS is set to grow to five with the ascension of Kongnungjang rumoured to be in the works in closed door talks. However members of the ARCS and representatives from the nations present at the treaty signing, declined to comment.
