Not exactly a RP idea, but I don't really know where else to ask this, so here I go.

I am thinking about making a thread for the election of the next monarch. Welskerland is a constitutional monarchy, but it isn't strictly hereditary, and is fact semi-democratic. There are four noble houses that the monarch can be elected from, and each family offers up anyone in their family suitable for the throne to be examined by the Crown Council, which is a collective body of electors who pick the heir by a vote of plurality.

Since the Monarch is a largely ceremonial position, what could the criteria be for determining who is the most qualified for the job? Could there be platforms they run on. I want the thread to be like the ones you see in F&NI where you vote on a poll for a president or prime minister, and then have an RP follow it where the winner of the poll is inviting foreign nations to their crowning ceremony.
Embassy Program

This nation does reflect my IRL views unless something is more interesting to differ from what I believe otherwise. For example, Welskerland is a constitutional monarchy, while I prefer a republic IRL.

Attention!

For those of you which use Zetaboards for your offsite forums, they will soon be involuntarily converted to the Tapatalk system. There is a thread in Gameplay with further information, but considering the potential usage of Zetaboards among RP regions, such was considered pertinent.

It's just what people prefer after having been on NationStates for so long, perhaps from their writing skills improving or just from what's considered desirable in this community. Still, I wouldn't call the social media threads or this one as particularly so in depth, or at least as in depth as other threads. You might just not be looking in the right places.

All I'm wondering is, why do people like to RP monarchies so much?

I think monarchies have a lot of appeal. First, the idea of a monarch fits with the nationstates idea that you the player, are the nation, that reflects the way a monarch is sometimes seen as the personification of a leader. In addition it makes character based RPing easier. You can role play relationships with the leaders of other nations, without worrying about elections making your character irrelevant. You also need less characters (although, I think most RPers don't realize the amount of ministers and advisers that a monarch needs to rule even a small modern country) There is also, a lot of types of monarchy, so you can have a monarchy that is a liberal democracy or an autocratic one, or even a socialist monarchy. The may difference between RPing with a monarchy and a republic (or the terminology I prefer, a Principality or a Republic), is that with a hereditary lifetime ruler, one can easily interact with other nations with Royal marriages and balls, but also have flawed characters that wouldn't be elected.

It is also fun. Especially compared to RPing Communism, or boring old liberal democracy.

I guess whoever has the most claim to the throne. Or how high in the nobility they are.

Something the candidates could go off of is how much of countrymen they are. Do they like their country, are they proud of it, would they serve these ceremonial duties well. Maybe popularity. Like, would the people like to see them wear the crown.

Is RPing fascism fun? Maybe only for some, and few people are real fascists.

Guys, I am a bit new and a bit old. I played this game back in 2003 as the nation of Zardoz. It is now ancient history and I could not retrieve it. So I started again as Zumlandia. I had a couple of losses in the family and had to recover all these years.

After saying that, you guy and/or gals mean what type of nation I start with will determine the issues I have? I am straight up Libertarian; get a job and what you do in the privacy of your home is not my business. Your starting nation has no effect on what issues you'll get in the long run. At first, the issues you'll get will be determined by your policies & prior decisions, so what you start off with will certainly decide your fate with issues at first. Later on, as your decisions may change from your initial decisions when starting your nation, you'll of course end up with different issues.

Any criticism is well warranted though I must ask for one to be truthful yet fair in their reviews. I want to improve so thank you for taking the time to read this.

Try asking in the Map Request Thread.

As for websites, specifically for maps, not so much. Though there are various (free) programs you can use in map-making: GIMP (raster graphics editor), Paint.NET (raster graphics editor), and Inkscape (vector graphics editor) to name a few.

Meaning of abbreviations in the ''NationStates'' forum?

Postby Betelgeuse Alliance » Tue Nov 27, 2018 2:34 pm

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this (I'm still relatively new here), but what do all the abbreviations in the ''NationStates'' forum (like ''TWI'' or ''PIA'' or ''IC'' etc.) stand for?

I really want to write a small story on there and I want to use the right ones if needed.

That's all.

Those are mostly for Forum 7 where there are sort of games like "The AN declares war on you. What is your reaction"

Don't worry, I recently made a very "newbie" thread on my other account, asking seemingly very basic questions...gotta learn somehow, why not come right out and ask?

For "AN" and "AL" it mostly only pertains (in my experience) to the forums, specifically the "F7" forums in which you posted. People make silly little threads there, such as "What would the AN look like in real life?" This means, literally, the "Above Nation" above you in the thread -- the poster who is directly above, should you also contribute a post. Practically, this means you are commenting on the previous poster.

People also like to talk about the Leaders of other nations in a similar sense. Hence, AL (Above Leader)

Don't worry much about all this, though, unless this is something you find especially entertaining...

Here is a list of acronyms I found in the forums.

viewtopic.php?f=15&t=279153

Unfortunately, TWI and PIA are not included. Unless TWI refers to The Western Isles, can't help anymore.
