"As I have said, sir," the Wraith said in her double toned voice, coming from behind the captain to sit in her station. "Tactical division accounted for. All systems are clear and security is at green alert. We are go for launch."

She turned and looked at the captain. "No name, sir. I am a Wraith Queen and a Commander on board this vessel. I have no other designation."

"You'll figure something out, I bet, while we're exploring. By the way, sir almost never works. Ma'am's not that much better, so only when it's crunch time. I prefer Captain. Power up the thrusters - hold at stationkeeping. Standby impulse drive. Tactical grid on fore viewscreen, ship resources readout on aft."

The Clank quickly typed in the necessary commands, handing all control of the warmed-up engines to Helm, where they belong. She also gave the orders to the computer to lock all hangar doors, and the planetside ramp. As they started to close, an alarm was sounded over the ship notifying all personnel nearby to finish loading, boarding, and mind the closing doors. She also gave the commands to put her view of the ship systems on the aft viewscreen, freeing a lot of space for controls on her terminal. She now glanced at the large screen to get her overview of the ship's systems, as it was being prepared for takeoff.

Barnabas quickly ran through the orders in his head, and filled them out, sliding the thruster controls to stationkeeping. "Thrusters good and charged, impulse ready for your command." He waited patiently for the orders to get the ship moving. The ship had been here long enough, and takeoff was always the most boring part of the voyage.

"Let's do it. Thrusters ahead one third. One quarter impulse once we clear drydock." I relaxed in my chair as the ship's plasma conduits purred away, as if the ship itself was ready to take wing, having sat in spacedock for over two years. The Yorktown feels like more than a ship, to me, though - it feels like the embodiment of the idea of universal peace.
