Lets assume that vampires hair grows if the vampire wants it to, werewolves i'd assume they wouldn't have to have a shave or hair cut after shifting any more than normal (but you would think that their hair grows quickly due to their regeneration)
Also Heaven, where did you pull that question from? I'm curious.

In short, magic.
@ Robyn: Fair enough

As for a lot of fantasy and supernatural fiction books being similar thats because generally every concept is expolored, and its a hell of a lot easier to just adapt an already existing world than it is to make one from scratch.

Elderscrolls III: Morrowind: Bloodmoon, mate. Not the best one, admittedly, but the werewolves in it actually look like they loose a bit in height, but it's just to do with the fact they're a lot more hunched over, somewhat quadrapedal as well as bipedal.
I believe the werewolves in the Discworld series also maintain the same body mass, but they're a bit all over the place to begin with.
I'm sure there are a couple of others, but I can't remember any at the moment.

But its not just height that can change, what about bulk? Does their facial structure change?

Or maybe even just skip a week after the Count dies with a single post as to how our chars spend that time (in general) before Raphael and the 'true' Drago-Silvana attack.
