After Ishmael kept his notes, he proceeded to his bed and changed into the Nalayan uniform. They were slightly tighter than his standard Army Reserve uniform, but he didn't really mind. If anything, it allowed him to attach his major's oak leaves in the right places--just like his own uniform.

Ishmael then looked at the other foreign students: he could see a woman with what appeared to be her boyfriend, another woman who was assisted by a caregiver--he knew that in CEV, such people were at most fit for non-combat roles, but he decided never to speak of it--and a group composed of Mina, another Nalayan, and several others in apparent dialog.

Damn, he mused. Where did Mirabelle go? Ah, well... And with that, he decided to make a beeline for the group, listening in.

Nursultan could tell that Mina truly loved this work. He was very interested, but didn't know much about it. He didn't want to push for information though. "That is very interesting. I am always amazed that such a beautiful object, like a wedding ring, can be crafted from some materiel and a fire." Nursultan then got nervous that he'd misspoken. "Well, I'm not sure quite how it's done in Nalaya. In Qyryqstan it includes materiels and fire."

Adah smiled at Vanadesse. "Snefaldian, ah! And yes, my regiment was in Premislyd. Cold, cold cold! I was just in the northern operations. It's so good not to be cold. I am very proud to wear this uniform. I was just there for the tail end though, I mostly was helping organize transport of refugees and providing escort, that kind of thing. The kind of thing they let green as grass officers do."

With at least one of their classes over with, Moira had retreated to her dorm room in order to change into the provided uniform. This didn't take her long, and she was back out and looking for people to talk with, specifically Mina and other students. Maybe someone would want to hear her opinions on whatever topic that they were talking about? She'd soon find out, as she approached the group that was conversing.

Ishmael couldn't help but express some surprise at the various topics he could listen to. Refugees and wedding rings, cold weather, and smelting... Again, he decided to take down notes, like a good brigade S-2.

Lonely, huh? he then mused, as he continued taking down notes.

Sam let Lori and her new friend have their space, finding his way to his room which he shared with a couple of other new arrivals, finding his BDUs laying silently on his bed. He put the extra payers on some hangars and hung them up in a mini closet next to his bed, and retired his dress uniform, also hanging that up, onto the rack. He placed his ribbons in a trunk he found under his bed, and placed the few awards he had been given in there as well.

He undressed from his uniform and examined his camouflage shirt, making sure they had spelled 'Riech' correctly. They did. He quickly put on his pants and belt, followed by an undershirt and the overshirt. He sat down on his bed and put his boots on, stuffing the ends of the pants into the boots. He stood up and walked out of the room, finding a mirror close by. He looked pretty good for being in foreign uniform. He walked around a little, trying to find Lori. He hoped that she wasn't with her new company, he wanted some alone time with her after not seeing her for such a long time.

Ishmael decided to join the larger group, listening as the other Nalayan shared her story in active duty.

Intelligence duty--wasn't that my role in the reserves? Suico thought.

Adan smiled widely at Vana, "Let me personally thank you for your work in Svernaya territory. We fought against Premyslid a year before, and we... didn't have the poser or clout to go after the men who commited some war crimes. I'm sure you got a couple of the ones who operated in Altakstan. "Forgive my apparent intransigence, but I wish to know what war crimes were committed by your marks... May I ask for your name?" Ishmael then added. He figured that he could only learn so much by listening in.

Vanadessë winced a little. "It was not an easy job, to gain the confidence of evil men. Many were responsible for death camps and mass murder. It left a foul taste in my mouth. The dead rest easier now that these men face trial in the Court of St. Dismas. We have decades of work ahead of us, in identifying remains and reuniting families. And I did not even see the worst of it. Yet thankfully, some of the things Nalaya saw in the Unification War, these did not happen in Premislyd."

Mina, meanwhile, just smiled at Nursultan. "In the mess hall, there should be food. It is...tabbouleh and grilled lamb with dark bread and roasted vegetables today. It will be excellent. The Banak cooks better than my mother—don't tell her I said that."

"Inahan sa Dios*... In CEV, these... monsters would be considered enemies of humanity, on the same level as pirates and slavers. I'm Ishmael, by the way. Ishmael Suico, civil engineer and reserve officer in the CEV Army. What of you?" he then asked the Nalayan.

Jolee smiled, "I've been in my fair share of wars despite being so young, I was at a military school in Linistea before I came here," then tears ran down her face, "I am the Chancellor of Linistea, but sadly my nation has fallen into chaos and derision. I was nearly killed at my last school by religious extremists."

Adah exclaimed, "Jumpin' Jehosophat, tabouli? We say it differently but I bet it's similar, yum yum. Puts the crappy food they serve at Lookinghaven to shame, let me tell you. Though they make it crappy on purpose, I'm sure. As a form of torture. Don't worry, your secret is safe with me." This tale of a good meal distracted her from Lori; hot women were awesome but she could get them anywhere, and she nodded with a smile to Lori prepared to head to the mess hall. She overheard the Linnistean woman's sadness and was kind of weirded out. Why are there so many brass and high ranking types here? I thought this was a school, not a refuge but maybe it was to these people. She patted the crippled woman on the shoulder with compassion. "There there." she said. She wondered if the woman wanted a pistol to put herself out of her misery. She decided to ask the Nalayans that along with directions to the nearest, best and cleanest brothel.

OOC: Apparently the nature of this thread was misunderstood...this is a school thread. The characters are to be normal students, despite possible political influences. My apologies for being unclear.

Mina made a face and laughed. "I heard about that shit from Arevik. Life is too short for terrible food, yes? Anyway, your classes should be very welcome. And Nursultan, I think you will enjoy Aznavourian's literature class. She is fond of the arts, particularly music and poetry."

Vana arched an eyebrow delicately at Adah's other question. "In Sevan? They are not so common. You know, most people just date."

Ganos Lao wrote:
As Lori went to get her uniform, hopefully having Sam follow behind, Lori talked to the young army bound woman. "I couldn't be a soldier....I don't think I could handle the pressure that war would put on me or my dad like that. I respect the soldiers who go out there and put their lives on the line for us, but I just can't see myself following them without getting scared and spending my entire service behind whatever cover I could find while my colleagues all get shot at. I could see myself being a nurse though. Tending to wounds and helping people try to find some sort of relaxation amidst all the chaos around them. I like to think of that as a possible career for me."

Lori didn't seem to notice Adah was checking her out, instead she was focused on trying out her uniform. She found a nearby mirror and made a few poses before giggling like a schoolgirl. She then looked for Sam. Gotta show him my new threads, she thought.

There was this commercial that Adah liked, it was a foreign one from Ossurwald or something. Anyway a young woman has a plate with a burger on it and asks a waitress to come over. "Excuse me," she says, "I ordered fries with this." "You got them," the waitress says. "Excuse me, I don't!" protests the young woman. The waitress kind of grimaces and says, "Pull your plate forward." The woman's breasts are so big she couldn't see the fries. It's an ad for a really big burger at a restaurant chain.

Anyway, Adah had that thought and others running through her mind. As Lori changed, she said, "Well, everyone serves as they must...I'm sure you'd comfort a lot of people in hospital. A LOT of people..." she swallowed as she watched the expanse of warm loveliness get hidden--somewhat--by the BDUs, and smiled as Lori laughed at her loveliness in the mirror. "Hang on a moment," she said, "Your uniform front--it's not really right. I know you're not a soldier, so let me adjust it for you." Which she did, with a look of professionalism on her face. And got a good feel in the process, though she did it in a non-sexual manner. "Not too tight?" she asked with concern.

Alexander caught Adah "adjusting" Lori's shirt out of the corner of his vision. He rolled his eyes. Marking the page of his sketch, he closed his notebook and got up, popped his fingers, and decided to go get something to eat. Opening the door, he called back;

"Anyone up for something to eat?"

Looking speculatively at Adah, Moira spoke up. "My second cousin James is attending Lookinghaven. Last I heard, he was taking a trip with a Kuronan girl that he met there. The Kuronan sounds like a decent sort, from the way that James talks about her. I think that he might even marry her, in good time. I take it that you've actually been to Lookinghaven, miss...?"
