The Crash of Flight XA-1

Postby Pyeon-Gang Ho » Wed May 11, 2011 6:04 pm

A bright sunny morning day in Pyeon-Gang Ho. King Cho-Gin Ho a dashing hansom middle aged man looked over a morning newspaper like any other resident might in the island country. "Morning daddy." His daughter Hyeon-Mi came in all dressed up for her usual day of schooling, being with friends and living her life as a Princess. "You're late. Breakfast is at 9:00 AM sharp now your meal is cold."

"Daddy, you couldn't have them keep it warm for me?"

"Not if you're not going to be late."

"Come on I was up late studying."

"Not up late playing games again?"

"Well maybe. All right part studying part games. I'm sorry the last hurricane kept me offline for weeks my character is so far behind."

"You're a silly girl."

"Like mama right?"

"Yup."

The maid put her breakfast in front of her "Here you are miss, I reheated it for you."

"Awww you always treat me well Roomi." She started eating when a letter arrived for the king. "Hmm new telegram it seems." The king said

"Who's it from?" Hyeon-Mi asked.

"Motokata." He replied he opened up the letter to read it "Guess they're asking for a Meeting between Their State Holder and my self. Let's see when they want it so I can schedule it. Oh the 25th."

"The 25th aren't you going to the World Assembly that day to give a speech?"

"I am, well I'll just have to send a Diplomat instead."

"Daddy you can't send a Diplomat. They expect the presence of a King."

"Honey they see no difference...Politics doesn't always work like that"

"You've been going for the Motokatan's for ages we need to make it worth their while."

"What can i do honey, I can't exactly send you to give my Speech in my place."

"No, but you could send me to Motokata. I heard the State Holder has a daughter my age! So I talk with Madam State Holder for a while, and I get to hang out with Her daughter. The way i see it we're both like Princesses. She's going to take over from her mother and I will take from you."

"I think I should be afraid when that happens."

"Daddy!"

"I kid! Come on I trust you and all but really you have school..."

"Ah nothing I can't do later. Really my exams are done the teachers are just coasting till Summer Break anyway."

"All right you can go. Now eat your breakfast and off to school"

"Yes sir!" She quickly ate up and went off to school telling her friends of the great trip she was gonna take. She could already imagine it, seeing the large urban sprawls of Motokata being with the Young Miss of Motokata, Yui Oda. Gonna be a great trip no doubt. When the big day came she was dressed in her best gown an exotic touch she would hope to impress the high society of Motokata. Her father was already off on his trip to the WA so he wouldn't be able to see how lovely she looked. She also had a few copies of this outfit she kept just in case. From the small airport the country had a private jet took to the sky tail name XA-1. Several hours into the flight people were talking with her about how to behave and act and what to say. After a while of flight night fell and with it came an ominous storm.

"Oh my."

"Not to worry princess just a little bumpyness on this flight."

"Hmm." She buckled up as the plane started moving up and down in the violent air. The cabin lights seemed to fade on and off as lightning would flash brightly in the windows. Outside the plane's engine took a direct hit by lightning.

In the cockpit alarms were going off "We lost our Engine. We can't see a damn thing in this storm. We're not gonna make it."

"Mayday mayday mayday this is PGH Flight XA1 we are loosing altitude located at" He relayed the cooridnates and repeated the distress as the plane continued on a fall. All young Hyeon-Mi could do now was pray thoughts of "Will I live or will I see mama soon" went through her mind. The plane crashed somewhere in an unknown place.

Upon his return to PGH the King was given distressing news of the crash. "What do we know, what happened, where is it?"

"We aren't sure sir. Unfortunately the homing beacon isn't working and all we have are the coordinates of where the Mayday call was issued. We don't know if she's alive or not."

"Until I find otherwise we will assume she is alive. I want the Navy and Marines out full force!"

"Yes, sir."

In the twisted wreckage Hyeon-Mi laid helplessly unable to move. She was pinned under heavy metal and from what she could see the staff traveling with her were dead.

News broadcasts filled the international airwaves with the breaking story.

Young woman reporter came on screen "Good evening those in Pyeon-Gan Ho and around the world, our top story tonight, XA-1 has been reported as Missing and possibly has crashed somewhere between Pyeon-Gan Ho and Motokata. The plane was carrying two pilots six staff members and the Princess of Pyeon-Gang Ho. Hyeon-Mi Ho. Princess Ho was traveling on behalf of her Father the King who was invited for talks with the Motoaktan Government. The King was giving a speech at the WA that day thus was unable to make the time arranged by the invite. The cause of the plane disappearance remains unknown but Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of Terrorism. Official also report the distress beacon is not functioning making location increasingly difficult. The crash radius is a span of over 15,000 miles much of it ocean making search and rescue a daunting undertake. Royal Navy and Marines are deployed but equipment is stretched thin as the plane could have easily drifted several miles off course East or West. Please stay tuned for further updates as we bring you more on this developing story."

To - The King of Pyeong-Gang Ho
From - Archon-Imperator Revan Hawke, Lord of Monocled Gentlemen

My Fellow Monarch,
I was deeply saddened to hear of the crash of flight XA-1 this afternoon. I would gladly volunteer a squadron of CH-53 Sea Stallion helicopters to search for the plane's crash site, if you would allow them to operate out of your country. We would also need to know the approximate area to search, in order to be most effective.
You have my sympathies,

MNN BREAKING NEWS

"This is an MNN Special Report I'm Noriko Kojima, that breaking news is out of Pyeong-Gang Ho where the special flight carrying The Princess Hyeon-Mi Ho (*pictured here*) has crashed somewhere in the span between Pyeon-Gang Ho and Motokata, Princess Ho was traveling on behalf of her father to meet with the State Holder Oda and her family. The King of Pyeong-Gang Ho states he fully believes and hopes his daughter is still alive somewhere. The King was asked but was giving a speech the same day to the World Assembly General Assembly which raises the question why not reschedule the meeting? Apparently a mistranslation led a belief this was a one time invite missing would not be an option leading to this.

State Holder Kaori gave a statement:
"I feel terrible of this mistake, I promise a thorough investigation into how this occurred. For the Princess sake I hope for the best, I have two children of my own, I'd be absolutely out of my mind right now."
Madam Oda has promised full Naval and Air Support in the long search. Stay tuned to MNN News for more on this story now back to Ohtani, already in progress."

Over the Burevolfly Sea
Mike Auburn looked out over the sea and smiled. The sixteen-year old was two weeks past his birthday and was getting a free helicopter ride from his uncle, a pilot for the USSM Naval Defense Forces Auburn sat in the copilot's seat of an SH-26 Seagull ASW patrol helicopter, flying out of the base at Sand Island City. It was just a routine ASW patrol, no real danger of combat, just to make sure none of the nations across the Burevolfly Sea weren't peeking in on the affairs of the USSM. Suddenly, in the distance, he saw a thin pillar of smoke.
"Uncle Jay, look! Off the nose to starboard- there's smoke."
His uncle, a middle-aged Commander, squinted to see it. "By George, you're right, Mikey!" He spun the helicopter toward the smoke and radioed in their find to the Sand Island Naval Base.

7 Minutes Before

Dr. Dieter Zetsche was in his personal aircraft flying to another country, when he heard some muffled noises coming from the cockpit. He dismissed them, but he would come to regret that. All of a sudden one of the crew members burst from the cockpit, and screamed, "OMIGODOMIGODOMIGOD THERE'S AN ASSASSIN ON BOARD THERE'S A-". She was cut short by a suppressed gunshot. Dr. Zetsche drew his concealed weapon, a Walther PPK and pointed it at the door. As the assassin walked out, a red dot appeared on the dictator's chest. However, Dr. Zetsche noticed that the slide on the assassin's handgun was locked back. He also noted that he had a parachute. Thus, as people who know their way around a gun guessed, when the assassin pulled the trigger, there was a Click instead of a bang. The assassin said to Zetsche, "Well, your can't use your weapon either, or you will cause the cabin of the plane to depressurize!" Dr. Zetsche proceeded to take aim and say, "Unlezz I happen have my veapon loaded viz Glaser Safety Slugs." He then proceeded to off the assassin with 3 .380 ACP rounds. However, the plane was falling. Acting quickly, Dr. Zetsche ran to the assassin, and took his parachute. Then he ran to the other end of the plane, where there was what appeared to be a rifle stock with a sling, a Strayer Voight Infinity in a shoulder holster, a mag pouch, 2 boxes of ammunition (.22LR and 10mm Auto), and 3 magazines for the SVI Infinity. Dr. Zetche took the stuffed the PPK into the small of his back, and looked out a window. He guessed that he had about 1 minute before impact. He put on the mag pouch (it clips on the leg), and stuffed the SVI magazines into it. He put on the shoulder holster, and the parachute. He grabbed the rifle stock and slung it over his shoulder. Finally, he took the ammo boxes, and put them into zipper pouches on the side of the backpack parachute. He then ran to the emergency exit door, and right before opening it, said, "This better be a parachute." He then threw open the door and leaped from the plane, about 1500 feet from the ground. After about 10 seconds, Dr. Zetsche pulled the ripcord, and the parachute opened up. About a minute later, he was on the ground. Dr. Zetsche proceeded to draw the SVI Infinity and fire it at the cords attatched to the parachute, as he didn't have a knife to cut the cords. He then threw off the parachute, and immediately noticed a pillar of smoke. It was coming from behind some trees around 100 yards off. Dr. Zetsche guessed that it was a city, and muttered, "Zat isht highly konvinient (OOC: Dr. Zetsche has a thick German accent)" As he walked through the trees he found that there wasn't a town. It was a crash site. Dr Zetsche walked around it, and heard a cry. He immediately ran to the source, and found a teenage girl, trapped under the twisted wreckage of the plane. He tried to lift the wreckage on top of her, but it was too heavy. He then tried just pulling her out, and that did work. She had a pulse, was breathing, and seemed to be okay, so Dr. Zetsche tried to wake her up.

Whatever you can do to help to find my daughter I will appreciate always. You will have full authorization to operate in our country but keep in mind we are relatively small and have a small airport. We're working on a map to provide with an estimated search area.

Very well, the squadron is on its way, as are a team of medics and signals intelligence personnel, in order to aid any survivors and perhaps locate the crash site more quickly. Small modification to the original plan, we will be using MH-53 Pave Lows rather than Sea Stallions, as they are better suited to SAR duties than the CH-53s.

0330 HOURS, 5/13/11, ANDERSON AFB, MONOCLED GENTLEMEN
STAFF HQ OF 19TH MARINE TRANSPORT SQUADRON

As the men of the 19th Marine Transport Squadron filed into the briefing room, they noticed the map up front was different that day. Instead of the usual map of Monocled Gentlemen detailing training missions, the map was instead of the nearby country of Pyeong-Gang Ho, with several large shaded circles drawn over it. The briefing officer stepped up to the board:
"All right pilots, sorry to wake you up, but we have a bit of real work for you now. We've been ordered by the politicos to go into Pyeong-Gang Ho and help in search-and-rescue operations for a downed airliner. Apparently the princess of their country was on board, and so it's fairly high-priority."

Lighting a cigarette, he continued:

"These are the possible areas over which Flight XA-1 might have gone down over. These are really just speculation based on what we got from the TV news, but that will change hopefully over the next few hours. The crash was approximately 5 hours ago. Immediately after this briefing concludes, you will take to your helicopters, and embark a group of intel people/medics that you'll be taking along for the ride. The destination will be the main airport in Pyeong-Gang Ho, and we'll be operating out of there for the duration of the mission, which will be dubbed Operation 719. By the time you get there, we should have solid info. You should be there approximately 6 hours from now."

"Is all that clear?"

Hearing no questions, the officer barked,

"Dismissed!"

Nations assisting in Search and Rescue here is a Projected Map:

The red line is the planned flight path, the orange dots are tracked progress from regional radar stations, the X marks when contact was lost. The gradient highlight shows the most probable areas of a crash site, would be best to focus search on there. All Naval Forces of the Kingdom have left port and are flying under our flag. Keep in mind you are crossing the regional borders of Haven into Nova and Nova Minor.
