Looking for some help (OOC Idea for FT RP)

I am going to get straight to the point with this. I am a new FT "nation" however instead of just jumping right into the mix with a federation of multiple planets I think it would be more interesting to begin as a group of disillusioned settlers, who for one reason or another fled whatever planet they were living on in search of a better life. I dont have any specifics as of right now, but what I am looking for is a couple, maybe two or three people, to join in on this roleplay. I will need someone to "donate" a place for these settlers to call home, I was thinking a small moon or something along those lines. I will also need someone to play the random dangers that a group of lightly armed ships would likely experience, such as pirates, raiders, malcontents, and etc. And also if there is anyone who wishes to rp as the people of the planet that the settlers left from then I think that would only add to the depth and the fun of the rp.

However I would like to warn, this is not something that, when the roleplay ends, we all can forget about each other. Whoever decides to allow these settlers to live in their space would obviously have to deal with them for the forseeable future. If someone wishes to be the planet they left then they might also have some hard feelings about the group that left as well. But I expect if there is any interest in this that all of these issues plus any new ones that should come up will be hashed out in time.

Finally I would like to say that these settlers are human. If anyone plays the part of the planet that they left from then we can hash out a backstory as to why they left and so forth.

Oh, one more thing, if anyone has cold feet about doing this because they are not sure about my role playing/writing ability, I would just like to put out that I have been in the nationstates community off and on since pre jolt. I only have one example of my writing skill, but none of my role playing skills as I havent really done anything more than tested the waters of roleplaying with others. But if you wish to see the example I have let me know and I will post the link.

Well, one of the races in my nation tends to travel to planets that experience spikes of activity, and a freshly colonized planet certainly qualifies. Given their sense of ownership and racial abilities, they can also cause a fair bit of trouble. Not enough to be a direct threat, but definitely something the colonists would want to address sooner rather than later.

Is there any way you could tell or show me more information about your race? It sounds like a good idea though...sort of like the first European settlers in the Americas experienced with the natives.

Well, my nation consists of four races, each of which provided inspiration for myths of old Earth during the Dark Ages. These guys, the Blinks, were the inspiration for pixies and fairies. They're about the size of a chihuahua, and are humanoids with exoskeletons that are reflective due to the condensed nature of their bodies. They have limited telekinesis that provides enough force to levitate themselves with the speed and finesse of a insect's flight, and communicate with screaching chirps. They think that setting an object down is a sign you don't want it anymore, which is where most of their trouble starts. They normally live in a different plane of existence where matter takes up a lot more space, which is why their bodies are condensed in our dimension as well as how they travel the stars: Inate teleportation. It takes energy, though, so driving an individual Blink off mainly requires something Blinks lack: patience.

They sound like they are quite the nuissance. Would a few of them be able to say...teleport into the settlers command ship? I think it would be interesting if they were to "aquire" somethings of varrying importance during the trip through the stars and in the early stages of colonization.


On a different note, if there is no one willing to give up a small planet or habitable moon, then I will be forced to create a fake one, which, is doable but will be extremely difficult considering that these people have no outside help. They will basically be forced to forget about travelling the stars and becoming a minor player on the galactic/interdimensional stage. So if there is anyone willing...It would be greatly appreciated.

I have some ideas for the basics of the story:

The majority of the settlers are living just outside of their old planets area of control in a space station built and paid for with the settlers money and people sympathetic to their cause, which I have not yet thought of. From this station they have sent out a small fleet of about 25 ships to scout for a new home.

And some other cosmetic details:

The settlers are human in biology, however they differ from Terrans slightly in their hair, eye, and skin color. They also have a shorter life expectancy due to their previous planet's atmosphere.

For the sake of fairness, I've decided Blinks can't teleport through shielded ships, but if all it has is heavy armor then it wouldn't be trouble.

Well, Im not well versed in much of the world of space flight outside of star wars but if I am correct ships shouldnt need to have their sheilds up at all times as it would be a massive energy drain, especially on smaller ships right? If so then I would think that would be the best way to get them onboard.

The overview of my nation is simple, futuristic, diemension hopping Romans in space, theres more depth to it than that but that's the gist of it. There owuld be political motivations on my side for helping you to settle on a world which i feel could create a dynamic between us.

Also if the Dark Fae is interested in playing the "aggressive nusciance" aspects, I'd give playing your home world a good go once you've elaborated on their culture and history.

Well, I haven't gotten much of a culture or history written up because I would like to discuss it with their home world so it could make the settlers reasons for leaving more seamlessly intigrated into the losing planets policies and the such. But either way you want to play, be it the noble people giving them a place to live, or be it the "evil" people they wish to forget about, it would be up to you.

Also, I submitted a request to have this moved to International Incidents. I had actually thought that it might be better recieved in there, but I was hesitant to get it moved because in my time being in the nationstates community, the nationstates forum has always had the better roleplayers and the International Incidents, while having some extremely good roleplayers itself, has also been where the majority of the, for lack of a better word, "noobish" peoples tend to be.

While the Technocracy (the nation I presently play) are largely jerks against those who use magic or psionics, if you're lacking either of those we'd be more than willing to help you out. In fact, if you were being haunted by the Fae - who we'd immediately see as magical and thus a threat - we'd probably take to you fairly instinctively. I'd absolutely love to settle you somewhere in the northern half of the galaxy, hopefully near the Technocracy itself, if that was the case.

Alternatively, if you're not necessarily seeking a 'protector' nation but rather simply good RP, you could settle somewhere in Old Realm territory (now largely abandoned. I'd give you details on the history of the abandonment and whatnot, but that gets us into history that goes back to '03), which would have some infrastructure, perhaps technological goodies and ship designs if you wanted some pre-existing original stuff to help flesh out your nation. The Realm is largely defunct, and the total population of Realm humans on their original worlds is presently under 10,000, and they're all sterile. They'd be interested in settling you on one of their old worlds or habitable moons simply because protecting their original stars at this point is simply impossible.

(The Realm would be looking at being revived later on, though you'd at no point risk giving the planet/moon back.)

EDIT2: The Technocracy being oppressive and horrific to mages might make a decent backstory when it comes to fleeing, if you wanted an oppressor more than anything else. Though for that to work, you'd realistically have to be a magic-based nation, so it's a bit of a specific case.

Alternately, if they're heavily psionic, it would explain both Technocracy oppression and Dark Fae curiousity.

Well I wasnt planning on giving the settlers any kinds of powers except for maybe the power of awesomeness. So I think that Technocracy space would be a good fit for them.

I dont really know what else the Blinks are attracted to, however if there needs to be a reason then would the blinks be attracted to a plethora of extremely strong emotions?

Psionics, emotions, or a population boom of biological sapients (such as humans) would all have the Shapers of the Dark Fae send a Blink or two to investigate.

Well, as I've said, the Technocracy would be glad to host them in and around their stars. Though, as I've said, they'd be very hostile to your colonists to picking up psionic or magical powers. Beyond that, though, they're perfectly nice neighbours who don't really intrude but just wish you'd do the right thing and help them butcher every last magical creature in the universe.
