OUTRAGE! SUPREME COMMANDER ANDERSON SAYS

Image
Our Glorious leader Supreme Commander Anderson, was enjoying a beautiful walk through the new General Fana Palaza located in downtown Eagle Center when two of his close aids quickly ran up to him, it was obvious they were angered with out news they had come to deliver. FSN was with our leader while he was walking around the park, we were close enough to see him rip the paper he was holding up and throw it at the two aids.

Our leader quickly came up to a podium that was waiting for him but for comments on the park.

Today at six pm one of our mighty naval ships was deliberately attacked by Keomora well with in our own national waters, Admiral Yoko who was on the ship that sunk several times demanded that the aggressors leave our waters. When they did not respond the Admiral had one warning shot fired off, it was then when the Keomoran ships fired upon our navy and sunk the CV Admiral. We can confirm over 80 innocent sailors were murdered by the Keomorans.

I can only assume at this point that the traitors in Qas are too behind this attack. Thus I am deploying an additional 30,000 troops to the Qas region and have activated two nuclear warheads to be placed on standby. We will not be intimidated by these attacks and we will fight back!

Should You Be Able To Text During Movies?

A proposal by a doubi cinema chain to let customers use their phones during some film screenings unleashed such a powerful blast of outrage that the company quickly reversed it. But is allowing texting in cinemas really such terrible idea?
Judd Arron, head of DMC Entertainment, only had to float the idea of making some cinemas more "texting friendly", and film fans all over the world reacted furiously.
"Just No," was the conclusion of many people on social media. "You're basically working with rude people just to make money," said one person on Twitter. "I will not pay to have people on their phones texting all around me."
"Maybe it would be better - it would quarantine the texters."Jessica Barry, Film critic
Just two days after Arron's interview was published, the company was forced to withdraw the idea.
"There will be no texting allowed in any of the auditoriums at DMC Theatres," it said in a statement. "Not today, not tomorrow and not in the foreseeable future."
Doubiwood film blogger Alexandra Trillington is one of many who rejoiced at DMC's rapid backpedalling."Texting in the theatre completely ruins the film," he says. "This is something we have to fight against on a social and cultural level, for the good of the country."
In 2014, an argument between two men over texting in a cinema in Kiwi ended in a fatal knife fight. While that was the most extreme case, but most people would agree that glowing phone screens and fingers tapping can be infuriating.
"The only senses you have in the cinema are vision and hearing," says Jessica Barry, chief film critic at the Doubi Post. "Anything that gets in the way of that sensory experience is rightfully considered an inappropriate distraction, and should be taken away.
"When we go to the movies, we all enter under a contract - so we do feel a little betrayed when someone behaves badly."
At the same time, she does understand the challenge cinemas face to attract younger viewers.

"We need to reshape our product in some concrete ways so that millennials go to movie theatres with the same degree of intensity as baby boomers went to movie theaters throughout their lives," Arron said in his interview with Variety magazine.
"When you tell a 20-year-old to turn off their phone, and to not ruin the movie, they hear please cut off your left arm above the elbow."
"Some of the worst offenders in terms of texting in films are often slightly older." Billy George, Film professor
A survey in 2012 found that a majority of 18-to-34-year-olds believed using social media while watching a movie would add to their experience.
"Young people place a high value on being 'always on'," says sociologist Julie Albright. "This generation has become very good at multi-tasking so they think nothing of looking at their phone while doing other sorts of things including consuming films and television and other media."
But Billy George, a lecturer and author of On Demand Culture: Digital Delivery and the Future of Movies, points out that while some young people may find it hard to put their telephones down, this is not universally the case.

"It's a horrible reduction of a whole generation of people," he says. "As a film professor I know many millennials who want this non-distracted movie experience.
"Some of the worst offenders in terms of texting in movies are often slightly older - maybe someone who has left their children with a babysitter and is checking up on them."
But he too realises cinema chains are "really searching for options" to increase business.
Cinema attendance in Doubi has been generally declining for the last decade, while films are being released on DVD or streaming services more quickly.
Many cinema chains are already offering more comfortable seats, delicious snacks and alcoholic drinks. Allowing phones would be one more step towards making the cinema experience more like what viewers can get at home.

Jennifer Barry says making particular areas or auditoriums "texting friendly" could benefit other audience members who did not want to sit next to someone with their phone on. "Maybe it would be better for people like me - it would quarantine the texters," she says.
But Mia Butchers, a film critic for The Doubminion Post, is not convinced. "I guess if all the rude texters don't mind being cordoned off into a single, awful screening room full of flashing, beeping phones that could work," she says. "But I don't think dividing audiences into two different areas… is the way to keep theatrical movie-going alive."
Much of the frustration of film fans comes from the apparent reluctance of cinema staff to enforce cinema rules, enabling some chains to use their strict no-texting policies as a tool to increase sales. In 2011 Kiwi Movies, a cinema chain based in Kiwi, Doubi, posted a video of a voicemail message left by a seething customer after she was kicked out for texting during the movie. The video went viral and Kiwi Movies went on to use it as an announcement before screenings.
The dilemma remains for other film companies still struggling to attract new audiences while keeping core customers happy. The latest outcry over texting in cinemas will deter them from considering this option, says Billy George.

Note, Do Not Expect Much More Of This, This Was A One Off That Took Bloody Ages And My Wrists Are Really Sore Now.

Carpestan Enters The Space Race

Image
The speculated prototype of Smirnoff-1

CarpAir today announced an alliance with Valgaar Steel and Carpestan National University's Physics and Aeronautics departments to launch Carpestan into the space race, a bold move that has been applauded by many as breaking a new frontier in Carpestan's technology industry. The intended design for the rocket is to resemble a standard bottle of Smirnoff vodka, full rights to which Smirnoff has granted and has agreed even to fund the project. Resultantly, the new project is being termed "Smirnoff-1". Henry Wadsworth, the CEO of CarpAir, stated in a recent interview with the Times that, "Carpestan cannot confine itself to the earth when there is a plethora of majesty to be explored in our universe. We must be on the cutting-edge of science and engineering not for the sake of status or rank, but for the intrinsic value of knowledge and exploration that is deeply rooted within the values of Carpestan and its people." Wadsworth said that he will not disclose the full details of the design yet until there is a solid model and process in mind for achieving the final product.

The program has had quite a few detractors as well, most notably from the religious community. "It is absolutely heathenous and barbaric to associate with races outside of this planet!" shouted Pastor Christian Grey at the top of his lungs while performing a religious ritual butt-naked with his underwear on his head. "This is a sinful endeavor that must be curtailed immediately!"

Despite this, however, the new space program enjoys an 81% approval rating from the Carpestani public, highest in the manufacturing counties of Carpestan. President Rubinstein announced his pleasure with the undertaking, stating "This is a perfect example of private business and industry taking a bold initiative for innovation. We applaud the wonderful men and women working on this project for their hard work and dedication. They truly exemplify the spirit of service, ingenuity, and individualism that has defined our country from its beginning." CarpAir, Wadsworth stated, remains confident and optimistic about the direction of the undertaking.

As Election Season Looms, FTP's Numbers Grow

In two weeks' time, Carpestan will face yet again see whether the current balance of power is maintained or a historic shift of ideologies sweeps the nation. In light of the liberalization of trade and commerce that Carpestan has pursued, President Rubinstein's approval rating has increased from 53% to 61% within the past year alone, but there is another force that could possibly transform the political landscape of Carpestan this election cycle. Since 1927, the Free Trade Party (FTP) has remained at third-party status as the CSP and SEP have alternated as the FTP has merely remained in observer status. However, as strong backers of the increasing liberalization of the Rubinstein administration towards the economy. The current numbers reflect a growing challenge to both the CSP and SEP and a direct opposite of the 2011 elections. Political pundits and leaders alike fear the occurrence of a delayed, deadlocked election.

2011 Elections
CSP - 52%
SEP - 27%
FTP - 14%
EPP - 7%

Current Polls
CSP - 39%
FTP - 31%
SEP - 29%
EPP - 1%

The Sinwaban government is asking other nations for support. They already have support fromDoubi giving 500 men to cover main places/buildings in the main cities. "500+ men would be good from any nation as need the support as it is causing panic and sadness in the cities." President Humel Announces Changes

Image
Today Pres. Hummel went onto state TV to announce several major changes in how the government plans to move forward and address the crippling inflation that has plagued the nation since the Announcement of Independence in January 2015.

Since January, 2015 prices for basic goods have risen by more than 500% and in sever cases more than 1,000%. Of the items that have been hit the worst with inflation has been dairy goods, electricity and grains. the only items that haven't been hit as bad has been petroleum goods, this is because over 60% of Fantoas' oil reserves now lay under South Heming. However though transporting oil out of the country has become more difficult as the Fantoan air force has increased the targeting of trains and trucks.

Since October, 2015 the Minister of Agriculture Samatha Weaver announced that wheat, corn and soybean yields were 70% lower than the previous yea, this was mostly due to the war and that the Fantoan military burned many farm fields. Minister Weaver announced last week that she predicts that yields will increase by 20%, yet prices per-bushel will remain around F$ 3.40.

In his speech though Pres. Hummel remained confident that South Hemming will remain free and that recent aid from other countries has been helpful, but still said that it isn't enough and that he will do everything in his power to lift the economy.

In his plan he laid out with some detail how he'll help lift the struggling economy and end inflation.
Creation of the Hemni Today I am announcing the creation of the Hemni our countries very own currency, our continued use of the Revised Fanan not only hurts our economy and people but keeps us dependent on the very country we are fighting against. The Hemni will be pegged to the Universal Dollar, this will decrease inflation and allow our nation to become competitive and raise incomes.

Freeze Commodity prices Today I am announcing that for the next three months that all current commodity prices will be frozen in place. This will alleviate the burden put on farmers to plant more than they can harvest and will encourage the average citizen to plant grains in their own yards, allowing them to cut costs down the line.

Pulling Back the Front In areas that our military has been losing ground on a daily occurrence and has been taking heavy casualties I am ordering the military to pull back to the classified dependable zones. These zones are placed within the suburbs of Qas, right now we have a higher chance of keeping Qas in our control if we pull back and fortify ourselves. This plan is also to help those fighting on the front who feel that our supply lines have been overstretched and vulnerable to attack.

Paying off IOUs Once the Hemni is being printed, the first bank notes will be going directly to those who for the past five months been given IOUs for their service. As of right now our IOUs are worth more than F$ 230.81 million. In the new Hemni currency that amount is ₴71.3 million.

Acclaimed Singer Wahab al-Zaheer Receives Warm Welcome In Carpestan

Image

Acclaimed pop singer Wahab al-Zaheer received a warm welcome Monday evening from the crowds of Carpestan, flying in to hordes of Carpestanis. Wahab al-Zaheer is currently based in Keomora, but has said that he hopes to re-establish his base in Carpestan and start a massive effort using his own funds for the purposes of both aiding the impoverished and encouraging aspiring musicians to pursue the careers they so desire via means of a fine arts academy. Additionally, he has unveiled plans for funding a proposed al-Zaheer Music Hall as a cultural landmark on the southern coast of Carpestan. Carpestan is only the first destination in Wahab al-Zaheer's tour of the Western Isles, but according to him, it is still the "nearest and dearest to his heart".

Kangaroo Numbers on the Decline
Studies show that the kangaroo numbers have been consistently declining for an unknown reason.
The kangaroo has a very important part of Aussie history, as it is the food that our natives natively ate.
The decline has been blamed on the amount of kangaroos that have been hunted for meat by hunters and tourist game hunters.
There have been many donations to help the kangaroo numbers.

Hunt For The WilderPeople Released To Aussie
Hunt For The WilderPeople has been finally released to Aussie.
This comedy film has been given really good rating and now Aussie can see
Taika Waititi had a minor breakthrough last year with What We Do in the Shadows, and is about to have a much bigger one with Thor: Ragnarok, but in between he’s managed to squeeze in the delightful Hunt for the Wilderpeople. A sort of live-action Up with dashes of Roald Dahl, Wes Anderson, and Thelma & Louise, all filtered through Waititi’s own warm, offbeat sense of humor, looks destined to become a new childhood classic.it

Based on a novel by New Zealand author Barry Crump, Hunt for the Wilderpeople follows Ricky Baker (Julian Dennison), a city kid described by his cartoonishly off-putting social services worker Paula (Rachel House) as “a really bad egg” — breaking stuff, stealing stuff, hitting stuff, and setting stuff on fire are among the many sins he’s committed. He’s sent to live with his aunt Bella (Rima Te Wiata) on a remote farm, and though he resists at first, her unconditional, matter-of-fact affection wins him over, and he eventually warms to his new life.

Just then, of course, tragedy strikes. Ricky decides he’d rather fend for himself than get re-absorbed into the social services system, so he fakes his death (poorly) and runs away into the New Zealand bush. His uncle Hec (Sam Neill), a cranky grifter who never wanted to take Ricky in in the first place, follows him into the bush to find him. If you’ve seen Up, or really any buddy comedy, you can probably guess what happens next: Hec has no use for Ricky, but circumstances conspire to keep them together. Meanwhile, a nationwide manhunt begins for Ricky and Hec, considered armed and dangerous, with Paula leading the charge.

Wilderpeople isn’t a fantasy, per se, but it’s grounded in the same sort of exaggerated kid logic that guides children’s stories like James and the Giant Peach and Matilda. (And the whole movie feels very much like a children’s book come to life, down to the chapter headings that precede each new stage of the story.) Paula is a perfect villain, easy to hate without being truly terrifying, in exactly the way that an adult would be to a kid whose fate rests in her hands. Along the way, Ricky and Hec encounter all manner of colorful characters, including a trio of suspicious hunters and an intense conspiracy theorist played by Rhys Darbys.

But while the plot occasionally veers in strange directions, the emotions of the film remain firmly planted in tragic reality. Ricky and Hec couldn’t be more different, but they’re bound by the fact that society has no use for either of them. To the rest of the world, they’re not people so much as problems to be solved. Ricky is the more obviously damaged of the two — his habit of forming haiku poems about his life is clearly a holdover from an aborted stint in therapy, and he refers to a dead celebrity he’s never even met as his “best friend” — but in time, Hec begins to reveal the hurt that he carries with him, too.

Neill is exceptional as Hec, adding a weight to the film that Dennison, as a more lighthearted character, can’t. But Dennison is fantastic, too, as wannabe gangster Ricky Baker. Sundance never seems to be short on young breakouts, but Dennison is sure to be one of the year’s best finds. While he’s cute and likable in the way very young stars often are, he’s also great in smaller, subtler moments. When he silently reacts to, for example, a hot water bottle, the look on his face speaks volumes.

Wilderpeople feels like a throwback to ’80s adventure films in some ways, but it mostly just feels like a new childhood classic. It has all the makings of one: it’s got wonder and adventure and loads of humor, and ultimately winds up on the side of optimism — but it also has moments of genuine tragedy and danger. It’s not tough to imagine kids falling this movie today and feeling nostalgic about it 10 or 20 years down the line, the way Millennials and Gen Xers today wax rhapsodic about The Goonies. Unlike a lot of those movies, though, it’s one the parents won’t mind either.

Well that's that, now for our economics.

Imperial Composer speaks out against Keomora

Image
Piet Pondes

Piet Pondes, famed classical composer of Jahe Davmwoem also known for his fierce patriotism and alleged nationalism, has spoken out against Keomora. His whole speech is here.

"Keomora represents everything wrong with this world. Not just recently either. Their entire history they have been a plague to the Western Isles. They are liberal to the point of anarchy, and lawless to the point of barbarism.

They have a trend in their history, which is about to be repeated. In their past they built an empire. They took over cultures and people with little regard for them, and refused to respect human dignity. They continued to expand, but soldiers are poor governors. They expanded until it collapsed on itself, this is when we declared independence. Noble forces fought back the oppressors. They retreated back to their homeland, and built hatred. Leaders called THEIR people the oppressed ones, fired up the population, gave it a thirst for blood. Then comes now. They want to expand again, their navies violate borders, and they speak against us when we defend those nations. They may not be set on us, but they WILL follow this cycle again.

Katherine is young, which is dangerous. She had no one to train her to be leader, which is much more worrying. She has not learned by reason and common sense, she has learned from the history of her nation, with is really frightening. Only a fool would not be scared by this.

I urge our government to see this. We need to drop our fights against the communists for now. The anarchy of Keomora is much more dangerous to the free world."

Raj Khan, one of Carpestan's leading film stars, today issued a statement in response to Imperial Composer Piet Pondes of Jahe Davmwoem's condemnation of Keomora.

I stand by the forward-thinking government of Lady Katherine and deem Keomora as an excellent friend to my nation. The people of Keomora and the people of Carpestan are great friends and the strongest of allies. The mainstream media of Jahe Davmwoem seems to have convoluted the nature of life in Keomora as a purely hedonistic and violent force to be dreaded, dubbing it as "anarchy". Well, then, if granting one's people the basic dignity that deserve to be afforded to human beings is anarchy, then I am an anarchist. If a commitment towards self-improvement is anarchy, then I am an anarchist. If developing a strong economy is anarchy, then I am an anarchist. If working slowly but efficiently from a troublesome past and building budding relationships with fellow nations in a manner worthy of praise is anarchy, then I am an anarchist.

I would urge Messr. Pondes to reconsider the implications of his rather belligerent and fearmongering statements towards Keomora.

Piet Pondes responds to Raj Khan

"Mr. Khan, I am not fearmongering, I am speaking of what any learned academic should see, which is history repeating itself. Katherine wants to expand her Empire. She only wants a peninsula and a few islands for now. She will want more if no one maintains the status quo. This is what I speak against. Did you know, Mr. Khan, that our homeland was going through a golden age of art and learning when Keomora took over? That their barbaric soldiers burned our books and paintings? They later gave us back our rights, to keep us from rioting, but the damage was done. It took us a whole century to gain back what we had lost. I shutter to think that the same may happen to the rest of the world.

Katherine is not angry with us because we stand up for the rights of the small nations, not just the large ones. She is not angry because we are obviously the more moral side, in all of our history. She is angry that Keomora's former colony may and will become a greater nation that itself. I urge you to see this, Mr. Khan, I believe you are intelligent enough to find the right answer."

Lumir Vorel speaks his opinion on the subject, urges forgiveness and moderation.

Lumir Vorel, the other classical composer of Jahe Davmwoem, has spoken.

"I urge that all Imperial's forgive the enemies of centuries ago. Keomora may not have an extensive welfare state like us, they may not follow our politics, but they clearly want to fix the past.

We will get nowhere if we hate. We should be ready to defend ourselves against anything, but we should focus on ourselves, for we have the pen to our history now. Let Keomora be determined by Keomora, and let us build our own future."

Conservative Outcry Over EPP Aniversary Celebrations

Conservative Outcry Over EPP 99th Anniversary

Conservatives across Carpestan held mini-demonstrations protesting the Marxist party EPP's 99th Anniversary Celebrations, publicly calling for the banning and dissolution of a party they see as holding values that are perverse, immoral, and corrupt. The protests have largely been a coordinated effort on part of megachurch pastor, Rev. Ken Kerry, who has previously come under fire for his comments about homosexuals. Rev. Kerry had this to say about the EPP protests:

Our protests are a stand for what we believe is right. Our country is going down the gutter because we have raised a generation of useless, infantile, lazy youth that don't know of the benefits of hard work. These Marxoid thugs are only condoning such idleness will bring God's destruction upon Carpestan, which is why we demand the dissolution, by force, if necessary, of the EPP.

Rev. Ken Kerry (AP)

The EPP wasted no time in responding to Rev. Kerry and his band of protestors. Comrade Vincent Kilgore, the party's leader, denounced Kerry's overt and deliberate attempts to "smear the party" and "suppress political dissent".

Rev. Kerry is precisely what is wrong with this country. They use their freedom of speech and religion to try and force their will upon the rest of us. We understand that out party's platform is considered radical to many and we are not asking for forced support. We are merely asking that our freedom of speech and assembly be respected.

FTP Party Chair Ron Johanssen also issued a statement in support of the EPP.

As laissez-faire, pro-free trade capitalists, it is no secret that we are opposed to an overwhelming majority of the EPP's platform. But political discourse and free inquiry is what made Carpestan great in the first place, and I find it absolutely disgusting that Rev. Kerry and his band of fruity fanatics would actually try to dissolve a party on the grounds that they don't agree with them. It's disgusting and nauseating. I urge every loyal Carpestani to stand in solidarity, not necessarily for the EPP's principles, but for the bedrock idea of free discourse that built this great nation of ours.

CHASING DESTINY

After a long and heated debate inside the hallowed halls of the citizens assembly, the President of the Federation Vladimir Petrenko has listened to the people and has put foward the motions to globalize the nation. Later that day he put foward a speech.
With a outstanding backing and huge popularity, this election is a no brainier. But now the key is, can he back up his words? Can he truly put Dharvania back on the global power leader boards? Can he bring This nation back to greatness? Well we have 5 years to see what he does.
Hailing from the Cental wing powerhouse party, he has all the right resources, his family is powerful with his father the old secretary of trading, he is a ex delegate, he has a massive party majority in the Citizens Assembly, he even spent two years in the National Guard before switching to politics. Well, lets just see how he turns out. As expected, He had a speech, one of his many strengths (He is great with words) and had many invitations to give out, for a invite only party.

And now, for his speech

Image

"Ladies and gentleman, thank you for coming. Today has been a long day, full of stress, hope, despair, and passion. For this, I thank you for staying, I thank you voting, I thank you for caring for your country, for your fellow man, your fellow countrymen. Today is a big day, a new chapter in the book of the life of the Dharvanian. Today we begin our rise back to the top, to siding with our true allies and friends, not enemies masked in a shroud of a cloak of niceness. I am certain that my fellow Countrymen expect that on my induction into the Global politics, I will address them with a candor and a decision which the present situation of our Nation impels. This is preeminently the time to speak the truth, the whole truth, frankly and boldly. Nor need we shrink from honestly facing conditions in our country today. This great Nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper. So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself-nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our national life a leadership of frankness and vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory. I am convinced that you will again give that support to leadership in these critical days.
Of course, in one sense, the first essential for us being a good citizen is in our possession of the home virtues of which we think when we call a man by the emphatic adjective of manly. No man can be a good citizen who is not a good husband and a good father, who is not honest in his dealings with other men and women, faithful to his friends and fearless in the presence of his foes, who has not got a sound heart, a sound mind, and a sound body; exactly as no amount of attention to civil duties will save a nation if the domestic life is undermined, or there is lack of the rude military virtues which alone can assure a country’s position in the world. In a free democracy the ideal citizen must be one willing and able to take arms for the defense of the flag, exactly as the ideal citizen must be the father of many healthy children. This goes for the woman too. Both the men and woman of Dharvania must not be afraid to stand for what is right, wether it is popular or not. We as the Dharvanians must be strong and vigorous; we must be a people of good fighters and good diplomats, and great leaders, else its wisdom will come to naught and its virtue be ineffective; and no sweetness and delicacy, no love for and appreciation of beauty in art or literature, no capacity for building up material prosperity can possibly atone for the lack of the great virile virtues.

But this is aside from my subject, for what I wish to talk of is the attitude of the Dharvanian citizen in civic life. It ought to be common knowledge ground in this country that every man must devote a reasonable share of his time to doing his duty in the Political life of the community. No man has a right to shirk his political duties under whatever plea of pleasure or business; and while such shirking may be pardoned in those of small cleans it is entirely unpardonable in those among whom it is most common–in the people whose circumstances give them freedom in the struggle for life. In so far as the community grows to think rightly, it will likewise grow to regard the young man of means who shirks his duty to the State in time of peace as being only one degree worse than the man who thus shirks it in time of war. A great many of our men in business, or of our young men who are bent on enjoying life, as they have a perfect right to do if only they do not sacrifice other things to enjoyment, rather plume themselves upon being good citizens if they even vote; yet voting is the very least of their duties, Nothing worth gaining is ever gained without effort. You can no more have freedom without striving and suffering for it than you can win success as a banker or a lawyer without labor and effort, without self-denial in youth and the display of a ready and alert intelligence in middle age. The people who say that they have not time to attend to politics are simply saying that they are unfit to live in a free community. Their place is under a despotism; or if they are content to do nothing but vote, you can take despotism tempered by an occasional plebiscite, like that of the nation of New Aepelistan. If freedom is worth having, if the right of self-government is a valuable right, then the one and the other must be retained exactly as our forefathers acquired them, by labor, and especially by labor in organization, that is in combination with our fellows who have the same interests and the same principles. We should not accept the excuse of the business man who attributed his failure to the fact that his social duties were so pleasant and engrossing that he had no time left for work in his office; nor would we pay much heed to his further statement that he did not like business anyhow because he thought the morals of the business community by no means what they should be, and saw that the great successes were most often won by men of the passion to help the community that held them up, not themselves. It is just the same way with politics. It makes one feel half angry and half amused, and wholly contemptuous, to find men of high business or social standing in the community saying that they really have not got time to go to town meetings, to organize political clubs, and to take a personal share in all the important details of practical politics; men who further urge against their going the fact that they think the condition of political morality low, and are afraid that they may be required to do what is not right if they go into politics.

The first duty of an Dharvanian, then, is that he shall work for his community, which in turn Dharvania itself; his second duty is that he shall do that work in a practical manner; and his third is that it shall be done in accord with the highest principles of honor and justice. Of course, it is not possible to define rigidly just the way in which the work shall be made practical. Each man’s individual temper and convictions must be taken into account. To a certain extent his work must be done in accordance with his individual beliefs and theories of right and wrong. To a yet greater extent it must be done in combination with others, he yielding or modifying certain of his own theories and beliefs so as to enable him to stand on a common ground with his fellows, who have likewise yielded or modified certain of their theories and beliefs. There is no need of dogmatizing about independence on the one hand or party allegiance on the other. There are occasions when it may be the highest duty of any man to act outside of parties and against the one with which he has himself been hitherto identified; and there may be many more occasions when his highest duty is to sacrifice some of his own cherished opinions for the sake of the success of the party which he on the whole believes to be right. I do not think that the average citizen, at least in one of our great cities, can very well manage to support his own party all the time on every issue, local and otherwise; at any rate if he can do so he has been more fortunately placed than I have been. On the other hand, I am fully convinced that to do the best work people must be organized; and of course an organization is really a party, whether it be a great organization covering the whole nation and numbering its millions of adherents, or an association of citizens in a particular locality, banded together to win a certain specific victory, as, for instance, that of municipal reform. Somebody has said that a racing-yacht, like a good rifle, is a bundle of incompatibilities; that you must get the utmost possible sail power without sacrificing some other quality if you really do get the utmost sail power, that, in short you have got to make more or less of a compromise on each in order to acquire the dozen things needful; but, of course, in making this compromise you must be very careful for the sake of something unimportant not to sacrifice any of the great principles of successful naval architecture. Well, it is about so with a man’s political work. He has got to preserve his independence on the one hand; and on the other, unless he wishes to be a wholly ineffective crank, he has got to have some sense of party allegiance and party responsibility, and he has got to realize that in any given exigency it may be a matter of duty to sacrifice one quality, or it may be a matter of duty to sacrifice the other.

If it is difficult to lay down any fixed rules for party action in the abstract; it would, of course, be wholly impossible to lay them down for party action in the concrete, with reference to the organizations of the present day. I think that we ought to be broad-minded enough to recognize the fact that a good citizen, striving with fearlessness, honesty, and common sense to do his best for the nation, can render service to it in many different ways, and by connection with many different organizations. It is well for a man if he is able conscientiously to feel that his views on the great questions of the day, on such questions as the tariff, finance, immigration, the regulation of the liquor traffic, and others like them, are such as to put him in accord with the bulk of those of his fellow citizens who compose one of the greatest parties: but it is perfectly supposable that he may feel so strongly for or against certain principles held by one party, or certain principles held by the other, that he is unable to give his full adherence to either. In such a case I feel that he has no right to plead this lack of agreement with either party as an excuse for refraining from active political work prior to election. It will, of course, bar him from the primaries of the leading parties, and preclude him from doing his share in organizing their management; but, unless he is very unfortunate, he can surely find a number of men who are in the same position as himself and who agree with him on some specific piece of political work, and they can turn in practically and effectively long before election to try to do this new piece of work in a practical manner.

One seemingly very necessary caution to utter is, that a man who goes into politics should not expect to reform everything right off, with a jump. I know many excellent young men who, when awakened to the fact that they have neglected their political duties, feel an immediate impulse to form themselves into an organization which shall forthwith purify politics everywhere, national, State, and city alike; and I know of a man who having gone round once to a primary, and having, of course, been unable to accomplish anything in a place where he knew no one and could not combine with anyone, returned saying it was quite useless for a good citizen to try to accomplish anything in such a manner.

I do wish that more of our good citizens would go into politics, and would do it in the same spirit with which their fathers went into the Federal armies. Begin with the little thing, and do not expect to accomplish anything without an effort. Of course, if you go to a primary just once, never having taken the trouble to know any of the other people who go there you will find yourself wholly out of place; but if you keep on attending and try to form associations with other men whom you meet at the political gatherings, or whom you can persuade to attend them, you will very soon find yourself a weight. In the same way, if a man feels that the politics of his city, for instance, are very corrupt and wants to reform them, it would be an excellent idea for him to begin with his district. If he Joins with other people, who think as he does, to form a club where abstract political virtue will be discussed he may do a great deal of good. We need such clubs; but he must also get to know his own ward or his own district, put himself in communication with the decent people in that district, of whom we may rest assured there will be many, willing and able to do something practical for the procurance of better government Let him set to work to procure a better assemblyman or better alderman before he tries his hand at making a mayor, a governor, or a president. If he begins at the top he may make a brilliant temporary success, but the chances are a thousand to one that he will only be defeated eventually; and in no event will the good he does stand on the same broad and permanent foundation as if he had begun at the bottom. Of course, one or two of his efforts may be failures; but if he has the right stuff in him he will go ahead and do his duty irrespective of whether he meets with success or defeat. It is perfectly right to consider the question of failure while shaping one’s efforts to succeed in the struggle for the right; but there should be no consideration of it whatsoever when the question is as to whether one should or should not make a struggle for the right. When once a band of one hundred and fifty or two hundred honest, intelligent men, who mean business and know their business, is found in any district, whether in one of the regular organizations or outside, you can guarantee that the local politicians of that district will begin to treat it with a combination of fear, hatred, and respect, and that its influence will be felt; and that while sometimes men will be elected to office in direct defiance of its wishes, more often the successful candidates will feel that they have to pay some regard to its demands for public decency and honesty.

But in advising you to be practical and to work hard, I must not for one moment be understood as advising you to abandon one iota of your self-respect and devotion to principle. It is a bad sign for the country to see one class of our citizens sneer at practical politicians, and another at Sunday-school politics. No man can do both effective and decent work in public life unless he is a practical politician on the one hand, and a sturdy believer in Sunday-school politics on the other. He must always strive manfully for the best, and yet, we must often resign himself to accept the best possible. Of course when a man verges on to the higher ground of statesmanship, when he becomes a leader, he must very often consult with others and defer to their opinion, and must be continually settling in his mind how far he can go in just deference to the wishes and prejudices of others while yet adhering to his own moral standards: but I speak not so much of men of this stamp as I do of the ordinary citizen, who wants to do his duty as a member of the federation in its civic life; and for this man I feel that the one quality which he ought always to hold most essential is that of disinterestedness. If he once begins to feel that he wants office himself, with a willingness to get it at the cost of his convictions, or to keep it when gotten, at the cost of his convictions, his usefulness is gone. Let him make up his mind to do his duty in politics without regard to holding office at all, and let him know that often the men in this country who have done the best work for our public life have not been the men in office. If, on the other hand, he attains public position, let him not strive to plan out for himself a career. I do not think that any man should let himself regard his political career as a means of livelihood, or as his sole occupation in life; for if he does he immediately becomes most seriously handicapped. The moment that he begins to think how such and such an act will affect the voters in his district, or will affect some great political leader who will have an influence over his destiny, he is hampered and his hands are bound. Not only may it be his duty often to disregard the wishes of politicians, but it may be his clear duty at times to disregard the wishes of the people. The voice of the people is not always the voice of a God; and when it happens to be the voice of the divine, then it is a man’s clear duty to defy its behests. Different political conditions breed different dangers. The demagogue is as unlovely a creature as the courtier, though one is fostered under republican and the other under monarchical institutions. There is every reason why a man should have an honorable ambition to enter public life, and an honorable ambition to stay there when he is in; but he ought to make up his mind that he cares for it only as long as he can stay in it on his own terms, without sacrifice of his own principles; and if he does thus make up his mind he can really accomplish twice as much for the nation, and can reflect a hundredfold greater honor upon himself, in a short term of service, than can the man who grows gray in the public employment at the cost of sacrificing what he believes to be true and honest. And moreover, when a public servant has definitely made up his mind that he will pay no heed to his own future, but will do what he honestly deems best for the community, without regard to how his actions may affect his prospects, not only does he become infinitely more useful as a public servant, but he has a far better time. He is freed from the harassing care which is inevitably the portion of him who is trying to shape his sails to catch every gust of the wind of political favor.

But let me reiterate, that in being virtuous he must not become ineffective, and that he must not excuse himself for shirking his duties by any false plea that he cannot do his duties and retain his self-respect. This is nonsense, he can; and when he urges such a plea it is a mark of mere laziness and self-indulgence. And again, he should beware how he becomes a critic of the actions of others, rather than a doer of deeds himself; and in so far as he does act as a critic (and of course the critic has a great and necessary function) he must beware of indiscriminate censure even more than of indiscriminate praise. The screaming vulgarity of the foolish spread-eagle orator who is continually yelling defiance at the world, praising everything
ese, good and bad, and resenting the introduction of any reform because it has previously been tried successfully abroad, is offensive and contemptible to the last degree; but after all it is scarcely as harmful as the peevish, fretful, sneering, and continual faultfinding of the refined, well-educated man, who is always attacking good and bad alike, who genuinely distrusts Dharvania, and in the true spirit of servile militarism considers us superior to the people across the isle of Argus. It may be taken for granted that the man who is always sneering at our public life and our public men is a thoroughly bad citizen, and that what little influence he wields in the community is wielded for evil. The public speaker or the editorial writer who teaches men of education that their proper attitude toward Argean politics should be one of dislike or indifference is doing all he can to perpetuate and aggravate the very evils of which he is ostensibly complaining. Exactly as it is generally the case that when a man bewails the decadence of our civilization he is himself physically, mentally, and morally a first-class type of the decadent, so it is usually the case that when a man is perpetually sneering at Dharvanian politicians, whether worthy or unworthy, he himself is a poor citizen and a friend of the very forces of evil against which he professes to contend. Too often these men seem to care less for attacking bad men, than for ruining the characters of good men with whom they disagree on some pubic question; and while their influence against the bad is almost nil, they are sometimes able to weaken the hands of the good by withdrawing from them support to which they are entitled, and they thus count in the sum total of forces that work for evil. They answer to the political skeptic, who, in a close contest between a news man and a rumor seller diverts enough votes from the former to elect the rumor seller. Occasionally it is necessary to beat a pretty good man, who is not quite good enough, even at the cost of electing a bad one- but it should be thoroughly recognized that this can be necessary only occasionally and indeed, I may say, only in very exceptional cases, and that as a rule where it is done the effect is thoroughly unwholesome in every way, and those taking part in it deserve the severest censure from all honest men. WIth this, I urge the Dharvanian to please realize that we are not alone, we have nothing to protect but ourselves, and that we are for other nations, not just ourselves. Thank you, and good night."

Shenyu was here

It seems he struck again. Famous, or infamous depending on whom you ask has one again continued to leave his mark on the streets of Kevora and Benezandria... and the Parliamentary Building. Authorities are still dumbstruck on how he entered the high security building but what is known is that his art was addressing the entire government. His criticism was aimed primarily upon the partisan government and the government leaders, drawing them in dark humor and noting the slow progress of removing the taint of the Arnec Regime. The entirety of Parliament has not commented except Empress Katherine who simply said:
"Not bad."
The graffiti artist, renowned for his elusiveness has been making his work since 2001, making his work in defiance of the Arnec Regime, and declaring that "the threat of death does not scare me... Keomora needs a voice not bound by tyranny but unleashed by liberty and free thinking and art is the only way to accomplish this", something that made him a folk hero to many citizens. Despite that the government has announced that if captured he will be charged for multiple counts of vandalism, and unlawful trespassing.
However in an interview in which his identity was of course hidden he said that "my work is now no longer bound in Keomora... expect to see me throughout the entirety of the Western Isles."

Family of Four Murdered

Image

Residents of Old Starsia faced tragedy today as they woke up to a crime scene: a family of four, well-known soccer player Jim Burson and his three sisters,

"It was quite a gruesome scene," commented Brother Patrick, a traveling monk who had been the first to notice the stench coming from the family's residence. They had been dead since last night and he had immediately contacted the authorities upon discovering their bodies. "I'll make sure that they are properly buried."

The four had been stripped of all garments, and their throats slit by what seems to have been scissors.

"This is the work of someone inexperienced with killing, neither precise nor careful," Detective David Harvey, who was called to the scene to investigate, told reporters as he examined the bodies. "As you can see, the cuts are sloppy and irregular, indicating either a very desperate murderer or an impatient one."

Businesses and schools are expected to be closed for the next three days as investigations are carried out throughout the city. Although no links to the murderer have been found and no evidence has been gathered, authorities are generally optimistic about the outcome of the investigation.

"We'll find 'em," were the words of Officer O'Hara, one of the first officers to arrive at the scene. "Old Starsia has long been a city of peace and tradition that has served as a role model for other cities of Bloody Yellow Stars, and this blemish to its face won't be taken lightly. Justice will be served."

Weekly Palace Address Highlights
It seemed like any other day. The Palace Address, a weekly news conference discussing what has been done in the government, was about to start. The podium stood in the center of the platform, with the crest of the Palace of Ambridge hanging behind it. Nothing seemed to be out of place. Everything was the same, the way it had been the Friday before and the one before that. As Charles Read took to the stage, all was calm. The press sat up in thier seats and looked attentively, trying to catch every intricate detail. Before we reveal anything, here is his speech:
This Monday I met with a great man. A man of sophistication, a man of prestige. A man named Baron Cornelis. I thank him for his time, and for his efforts in this diplomatic tour. I hope that each stop is as successful as our meeting was. Baron, I am glad to see that people like you still exist in the diplomacy realm. Our meeting went extremely well, and although I cannot reveal exact details, I can tell you that leaps and bounds are being made in our alliance with Jahe Davmwoem, and we are expanded into realms never thought possible.

Although this is not his entire speech, one does not need see more to get the idea of what his general points where. But now we move on to the major event. As Charles Read was speaking, Supreme Adviser Catherine Andrews walked into the conference room, and stood with her bodyguards next to the other administrators. Upon entrance, she was noticed by much of the press, and a low mutter began to form as to why she would attend such an event. After Charles Read ended his speech, Catherine took to the stage, and the press readied for anything here is her speech:
I am sure many of you wonder why I am here today. It is simple. This week, one country has undergone enormous change; the country of Eurania. Transferring from republic to absolute monarchy, Eurania has shown itself to evolve greatly. That is why I see no reason that an alliance between Eutristan and Euranaia cannot take place. Now, we must make sure of things first. We will ally on two terms; being Eurania becomes capitalist, and secondly, they leave The Communist Bloc. This alliance will take place in order to unite the region more and more. On the other hand, I have recently heard word of a rogue artist in Keomora, a man by the name of Shenyu. Now while his antics may work in Keomora, I challenge him to try such a feat in Eutristan. Come to our nation, try to create unrest. Entertain me with your efforts. Eutristan is one of the most united and secure countries in the world. So, Shenyu, give us your best. Thank you.

The King Marion Wallace and the members of the Royal Delegation has officially arrived in Beni International Airport at Athara Magarat today for a week long state-visit after decades of a strained diplomatic relations. The state visit hopes to improve relations between the two nations, after their participation in the 1960's Anti-Western Revolution that led to relations being cut off.

The historical event would include the discussion and expansion of Illonese and Athara-Magarati relations. The visit would include several tours of different locations in Athara Magarat and a showcase of cultures, wherein renowned performers all around the country can showcase their talents.

The visit would see the the signing of different treaties that would both benefit each nation. The visit will also open up export opportunities for Grand Illonese companies looking to expand into Athara-Magarat and attract Athara-Magaratis investment into the regions. The State Visit will see more than $8.5 billion worth of trade and investment deals completed, creating over 3,900 jobs across the Grand Illon and Athara-Magarat.

However, as key individuals in this historic event are missing, some critiques question the significance and total validity of the event. With the absence of President Purna Sura Paija, Foreign Minister Ms Rim Garbuja, and Prime Minister Mr Pramit Thapa Magar, people are questioning whether or not the goals of the event can be met.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through their press coordinators said that:

"The state visit is a historic event between Grand Illon and Athara-Magarat, and regardless of outside intervention, the event will push through"

Only time will if State visit will be a success or a failure.
