Corrupt Dictatorship

Lux Pulchrae wrote:Constantino smiled and nodded "Danke-, er, grazie Sua Maestat." the four then walked further into the ballroom which was already filled with people, and quite a cast of characters it was with people from all over. Constantino walked next to his father ans was about to relay the message Prince Alrich had given him "Father, the Prince said to relay-"

"'Tantino, I know what he said, I was there, no?"

"Oh. My mistake."

"It is ok, I understand your attention to orders. You are nervous, you don't want to screw up in front of anyone on your first diplomatic outing, especially the people here. Especially girls here. Am I right?" he playfully shook his head, almost ruining his hair "Sorry about that."

Constantino gave smile and a little chuckle "It's okay father. And of course, I am a bit nervous, but nothing is too big for a Massimo, eh? We made it this far." they shook hands and laughed, that should have been their family motto.

"My Lord!" the group's attention was brought to Luis who pointed with his lips "Look at that torre bastard." the person he referred to was a rather tall, no, REALLY tall man in a Germanic looking military uniform, easily above Luis' height by maybe three or for inches.

"Well we can't stand and walk forever, we're old dogs" Alessandre said as they found a table to sit at(assuming there are).

"Speak for yourself old man." Roderique smirked "You have two young studs here." he said as he stood Constantino up and pinched his cheek, the younger jerking his head away.

"I'm like ten years younger than you are. And aren't you married?" he rubbed his pinched cheek.

"Annulled. But that doesn't matter, let's go get some drinks." he steered Constantino with a hand over his shoulder. It was rather odd, he had only met Roderique a handful of times throughout the years, mostly at gatherings, but not enough to warrant a solid friendship. It was better than nothing at the moment.

"Pretty sure they bring drinks to you at these things."

"You're telling me what they do at a ball? I've been to more than I care to count, the best drinks you ask for at the source" they stopped and spotted a maidservant, "Excusez moi madame-" he stopped and thought to himself for a quick second fuck I don't know German. "Psst, Constantino, ask her where the bar is, or its equivalent."

"Hallo fraulein, is there a bar here by any chance?"

Back at the table, the other two watched as they darted off, "What a pair of clowns. Especially Roderique, give him a chance to get loose and he'll take it." Luis commented with his deep, almost bass-like voice.

"Yeah, they'll be fine, I hope."

Lone Maachen.
I was one of the Hausmädchen, house-maids, handmaidens or whatever you want to call it, of Schloss Zyng and I had not only the great pleasure of wearing the black bow of Schloss Zyng over my collarbone, but also of being there for the ball, as one of the Hausmädchen.
Spirits above and below, the dresses were so beautiful and some of the men were quite dashing. Of course, the most dashing of them all were Fürst Alrich and Prince Damir, but Constantino Innocente had this youthful charme, that would make many-a-girl week in her knees in due time... of course, not me, because I was a professional.
And he stood before me, with another man, and asked in quite a good German, where the bar was.
I smiled and replied in the same language, bowing my head lightly: "The Refreshments Tables are to either side of the ballroom." I motioned in their directions, where my colleagues were currently bringing out bottles of wines, brandies and other very delicious alcoholic drinks. "Alternatively, I can bring something to the Highnesses?"

Folaisia wrote:At this point, Ruairi finished his glass. When Bertram mentioned that a dance to the Polonaise with Aaltje had an open slot, he took a glance at him, then at the alluring actress.

"Well, since you have spot in dancing with the bonnie lassie," he then replied with nonchalance, then smiling as he turned to face Bertram, "I'd be delighted to take the opportunity."

Aaltje Schreyg.
Time for a little change in point of view, don't you think?
Here I am, Aaltje Schreyg, on the dance floor with a colleague from far away, dancing a Polonaise. He was not bad, but maybe it was just the style of dancing.
In any case, I have been called many things already, but 'bonnie' had never been among them. I was sure, that it was something positive, but I had no idea as to how... his accent was quite interesting, though, it reminded me a bit of the Selkie, yet not quite.
Actually, absolutely not. There were some similarities, but not many.
Anyway, we danced and it was fine.
As the dance ended, I offered him my hand and jerked my head into the direction of the closest pair of dancers (by coincidence Prince Vin and one of the Princesses from Shikonjima, the Prince bowing down to softly kiss the Princess' hand in a gesture of appreciation).
It were manners around these parts and I was not sure, if he was familiar with them.

Shikonjima wrote:The Shikonjimanese Royals had to grin at Heda's remark, that Vin was an aspiring movie critic - after all, he would be reasonably be likely to write critics on the movies Shiruko starred in, should they ever find their way into these parts.
Vin explained the technical details of the HMW GT-123, its speed limited to 250 km/h, certainly to comply with Teressien's legislation on vehicle registration, but could easily crack the 300 km/h threshold. The market price was ... enormous.
Their conversation got interrupted by the orchestra's 'jingle', calling to dance. It was time for the Polonaise. Heda offered her arm to link to Keoke, an offer he quickly accepted; Shiko linked arms with Vin, then they moved to the dancefloor.
Both Shikonjimanese would leave the leading to their Teressian dance partners - considering, that this style of dance (in the widest sense of the term) was rather uncommon on the Island of the Four Souls, this was probably not such a bad idea.
They would find in quickly, though.
Princess Kyouko watched them with excitement - as did the Speed Junkie and her honorary cousin. Taking sips from their lemonades, they spectated the round dance, led by Prince Alrich and Enya. One would see a lot of well-known pairs, one of the most prominent ones amongst them being Princess Aurelia and her Dad; also Baronin Wilrun with her Plus One and further prominent couples were to see. One would also see two Selkie-Men in the Reigen, and while this would certainly be a scandal in many parts of the world, there was nothing unusual about it from the standpoint of someone from Shikonjima.
Three photographers of the court would make sure, that the world wouldn't miss this.
Kyouko, Shiruko, and Jirou exchanged a few words in Shikonjimanese, and judging by their grins, one would easily get what they were talking about - their relatives, more or less close, did a good job on the dancefloor.

Heda, Prinzessin von Dorch.
I was quite sure, that the lenses of the photographers were smiling in delight at some of the couples they caught, among them of course Mister Piteog and his date, who danced without a care in the world. It was a thing of beauty.
Maybe they also smiled at the sight of my dance partner and me, who left leadership to me. A Polonaise was not an overly complicated dance, but it was still a dance and messing it up could be quite bad in public. Vin managed just fine with his fellow speed-demon, slowing for the Polonaise, while Keoke and I finished our dance fine as well.
No toes broken.
I smiled at Keoke as the remainder of the ballroom applauded the orchestra for their performance.
"You're a good dancer.", I said and offered him my hand - manners needed to be observed, after all.

I hung my shoulders, accepted the handkerchief.
"Thank you.", I said, carefully dabbed my eyes - I did not wear much makeup, but what little I wore did not need the additional damage. "I saw it in her eyes, that she had the best intent... yet I blew it..."
Well, Fara, can't do anything right, girl, eh?
"I will not hold anything against her. In fact, I don't think I could.", I added, "Please, Benedict-Khan, when you meet up with her, tell her, that I am sorry and that she should not let a woman like me ruin her heart. She will need it."

"I'll tell her if I can find her. Assuming she didn't dart away to the ladies room and lock herself in but a good chance she'll calm down and come back to the floor before too long. And I'm sure the two of you will bump into each other again and who knows maybe become friends. Cecee, she's a nice woman."

Princess Fara bint-Dardan.
I nodded, smiled.
It was a bit hollow, but it worked. Luckily, the photographers had other things to do, observing the dance about to unfold. I would offer the dance to Benedict-Khan, but I thought, it would be a bit unfitting... not only did I make his wife run away in tears, the dancing had also already begun.
"I hope, that I can apologize to her in person.", I said.

I blushed.
"Well, I don't know her that good... I mean, it would be a miracle, if she remembered me from the two-and-a-half times we met...", I admitted, "But if you want to go..."
Just then, the jingle sounded out.
I smiled sadly.
"Well, that's the signal for the first dance, a Polonaise.", I said and smiled, "My boyfriend actually wanted to take that one with me before he had to stay in Fortham." I sighed. "If you want, I'll wait here until the dance has finished. You two go and have fun!"
I smiled more confidently: By the next one, I would have someone to dance with and if it was my older sister!

The two girls sat back down each letting out a cathartic chuckle "Hehehe well I suppose we're overthinking things a bit. If we want to meet her, no reason at this open party we couldn't walk right up to her and say hello ourselves." Now the music cued "Oh a dance."

"Well then, Miela, if you'd delight me so?" Pacifica stood again offering her hand

"Oh what do I know about dancing to this?"

"Come on, dance is dance, move to the steps and rhythm. Tribal or stringy." Miela did accept Pacifica's offer and the two locked hands deciding to share a dance. Miela wasn't bad actually, she just followed Pacifica's lead. "Where did you learn to dance?" Miela questioned

"My mother of course. Always a big dancer herself and lover of music."

Kiah Findehoof.
I watched the two of them dance and it was... beautiful.
A Polonaise was a very formal, stuffy dance, yet the two of them made it look like the most natural thing in the world. Their conversation eluded me, mainly because of the distance, but that was not the point.
I applauded when the Orchestra had finished and then flagged down a waitress with a few glasses of lemonade. It was a bitter drink, no sugar, but really only the lemon and water, which was far healthier then the sugar-water sold in the Free Lands...
Anyway, I waited with my three glasses and the Hausmädchen for the triumphant return, smiling widely. The cameras had caught their dance as well, making them the second same-gendered couple on the floor tonight. Regardless of that, they looked both cute and pretty together!

Gerulf von Sykane.
I raised an eyebrow at Jolene's smile and the sparkle in her eyes.
Maybe I had been too forward...
"That is a very proud boast.", I said with caution and carefully, rising up to business-mode, tall and colder then when we were talking about dogs. "However, I would prefer careful consideration and the option for sustainable development over a quick buck."
I let a beat pass.
"I am sure, that you would prefer to carefully consider your options, too, before you move in any direction, wouldn't you, Miss Gudfrey?", I added. "So, while your offer to quickly find a buyer is appreciated, I would much rather throw the net out further, as they say."
And then, the jingle ruined the vibe.
I smiled, suddenly, as Rena looked at me as innocently as she could.
"Now, Miss Gudfrey, I must excuse myself. I promised my wife to dance the Polonaise with her and I am a man of my word.", I said and bowed my head lightly, "I hope, that we can reconvene later?"

Jolene Gudfrey in conversation with the von Sykane's

Jolene's immediate joy was slightly snubbed by Gerulf's change in attitude and his response, with his demeanor changing slighly colder than before.

Jolene had to fight hard to maintain her composure and smile, as this stranger have just insulted her deeply, by accusing her of being an idiotic businesswomen, not knowing the way to sustainable business - chasing the 'quick buck'.

Contrary to some's belief, Jolene knew exactly what she was doing. She would not have been one of the richest people in the world, especially at the ripe age of only 26.

After a quick deep thought she realised that he most probaly did not mean his comment as a insult, problem was that he took her challenge statement as literal. She let out a soft sigh - she blames the german genetics...

She quickly replied as the conversation has clearly ended, "Oh Mister von Skokane, appologies - you misunderstand my statement. Please excuse my Port Emberian flair.. Please do enjoy your eve and your dance. It was lovely to meet both of you." She offered a soft bow before retreating, in order not to get in the way of the dancing which was to unfold.

Jolene walked to the nearest waitress to get a drink, as she unfortunately did not have a dancing partner.

Lykke Blon.
I was one of the Hausmädchen, just like Lone, and as such, it was the duty of mine to wait to the guests of the Prince. Of course, I shared Lone's sentiments about the dresses of the ladies, but the men present...
Eh.
Men do not hold much interest to me, if you catch my drift.
So, while the dancing went on, I was 'patrolling' the crowd of non-dancers, a tray with drinks on my hand, and spotted someone wanting a drink. Jolene Gudfrey, if I was not mistaken, spotted talking with Gerulf von Sykane, who was now on the dance floor with his wife.
I approached her and offered her the tray: Six glasses, two water, two lemonade, one white wine, one red wine. Free pick for her.
Of course, I bowed my head as I offered her the tray.

Just like Shiko, Keoke was well aware of the Teressian customs, at least when it came to ending a dance. Indeed, a Polonaise was not overly complicated, but Keoke surely did not want the world to see him fail. That would have been embarrassing.
Heda smiled at him, offering her hand - Keoke knew what to do. He gently took her hand, bowed out a bit and kissed her hand's back. It was a gentle peck, of course, just like the customs required.
"As are you!" - he said, smiling back. "Granted, one could argue, that I hail from a distant land where dances are about as important as eating or breathing, but I don't think, that a Polonaise can be compared to Hula!" He suppressed a laugh, but grinned.
He looked over to Kyouko and her remaining company for a moment. They nodded in respect - a really seemed to be a good dancer.
Then, he turned to Heda again. "If I'm not entirely mistaken, the next one is a Polka" - he said. "Though, I'm not sure about a certain custom of yours - is there something like a Golden Rule as to how many dances you can dance with the same person in a row until it's considered impolite, like it's three in most parts of the United Confederacy, or two in the Free Lands of the Selkie? I'm not familiar with all details of your customs ..."

I smiled as I watched Alrich and Enya greet another couple of guests, one of them a nervous wreck, by the looks of it. And the two of them looked adorable together!
And, to be honest, were I a few decades younger, I would definately make a pass at the young man. He looked dashing in his uniform. Alas... I am an old hag, my youngest granddaughter, a girl of not even twenty, was standing with my Prince, who's Grandfather I had served (granted, back then as an Ensign, but I did swear an oath to serve him, so it counted).
Of course, I knew, who both of them were.
Especially the Prince, but the girl was not uninteresting either. Alas, as I approached the two of them, I might not have cut the impressive figure I wanted to anymore. My piercing blue eyes were the same as always, yet wrinkles were all over my face, my blonde hair had turned white. I walked on a black cane with a silver head, a present from Alrich, for my 70th birthday - cheeky bugger insisted, that I didn't look a day over thirty!
He did have a sense of humour.
Anyway, I wore full Dress Uniform of the Fürstliche Streitkräfte, as appropriate for such an occasion and my station and age, which could be summed up in one word: Black. Black pants, black shoes, black jacket (double breasted with silver buttons), black gloves, black belt and black tie. Yet a white shirt underneath it, silver belt buckle, a deep red armband around the left arm, silver tabs, decoration on the left breast, among them of course the Black Cross.
It was impressive and I knew enough young men, who cut very impressive figures in it. Sadly, none of them were here tonight as only special balls hosted by the Fürst were occasions, where the military was there in stronger numbers then a few blokes.
Me among these blokes.
"Good evening.", I said, as I stood before the two, bowed my head to Berengar, "Admiral Naya Findehoof, Armed Forces of the Principality. It's a pleasure to meet you, Crown-Prince Berengar - as well as you, Miss Byrnes."
And basically right as I finished my introduction, the orchestra played a small 'jingle', so to speak, the sign, that they would now start with the dance.
I snorted in amusement.
"Perfect timing.", I said and turned to Berengar, "I do not envy the decision you now need to make: Either talk with an old hag or take the girl and lead her to the dance floor." I bowed my head lightly, still smiling. "I which I would choose!"

It took three minutes from the 'jingle' of the orchestra to said orchestra getting on with it and starting to play the music.
It was a Polonaise, which meant, that it was not a dance in the strict sense, but a round dance, that was danced by pairs striding with majestic and graceful steps in a moderate tempo in certain figures over the dance floor.
It's exact origins were unimportant.
Important was the striding, starting with the plié, the light bending of one leg, the other leg then being stretched, two steps following. Although slow by nature, the Polonaise was enriched by the different figures.
The core was the round dance, the Reigen, the pairs assembled behind each other, female partner to the right, male partner to the left, the female partner putting her left onto the right of her partner's, both ramrod straight and head held high. Time to bow to each other would come often enough.
And so, it happened, that Fürst Alrich III. and Miss Enya Findehoof, a.k.a. Miss Enya Cíochach of the Tribe of Navan, led the Reigen of dancers onto the dance floor to the masterful music of the Stadtorchester Zyng (who played Franz Schubert, Polonaise in B flat, D.580).
Which other pairs were on the dance floor? Prince Damir and Princess Aurelia could easily be spotted. Same with Baronin Wilrun and Khalid Faris, Mailo and Isa Gudhamun, Gerulf and Rena von Sykane...
Traditionalists would be scandalized by Erblin Piteog of the Tribe of Wicklow and Sirlám Scriúire of the Tribe of Cork, two men, dancing with each other (Erblin having the make part). His fellow air racer Raidri Leathchúpla of the Tribe of Navan and his girlfriend Kiah Irisleabhar of the Tribe of Waterford were coming quite early in the Reigen, testament to the arrogance of Leathchúpla, which his girlfriend took in stride. Yvain Saighead of the Tribe of Westmeath, SDY's Representative tonight, was teaching his daughter Isla Saighead of the Tribe of Westmeath right there, as one could see at the lip movements of the man.
None of the present spirituality took their dates out for the spin and quite a few people were standing on the sidelines - though, who was amongst them? And who danced with whom?
The lenses of the three photographers of the court, who were present and officially accredited, were cleaned.

Berengar's previously genial face immediately shifted, and he clicked his heels and saluted. Assuming that Naya returned the salute, he held it for a second longer, dropped it, and grinned. "A good evening to you, Admiral. A pleasure to meet you as well."

Erika curtsyed and bowed her head. "Good evening to you as well, Admiral." she quietly said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Just then, the jingle for the orchestra started up, and Berengar looked back and forth a few times.
After awhile, he bowed his head. "Apologies, Admiral, but I must take my leave...pending the approval of Lady Byrnes." He looked at Erika.

Erika, for her part, had briefly seemed terrified when the orchestra made its cue, but mustered up her courage and nodded.
"...You sure?" asked Berengar, once more.
"Yes."
Berengar looked back to Naya again. "Well, apologies, but me and Erika must take our leave. Have a good evening, Admiral."
As the two left for the dance floor, he looked back and silently mouthed 'Help.'

The Polonaise was, as the name implied, from Poland. It was, as all dances were, in 3/4th time, and basically consisted of a long procession. It was stuffy and unpleasant for both Berengar and Erika, with the former wondering why the hell he ever decided to take to the floor when he could swap tales of service with the Admiral and the latter wondering why she took Berengar up on his offer. Of course, outwardly, they seemed to be competent enough-they weren't exactly amazing dancers, but they seemed to at least know what they were doing.

Finally, it ended, and both seemed visibly relieved. After getting all of the formalities over, Berengar and Erika evacuated the dance floor, only to run smack-dab into Sabin.

After a long, awkward pause, Erika piped up. "...A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one."

Aceus

With practiced stealth, Aceus made his way to one Fara bint-Dardan, and decided to be particularly audacious. The woman in question would receive a peck on the cheek, and then Aceus would glide to Fara’s side and introduce himself to Benedict von Eylstadt. After a bit of small talk, though before the Polonaise was done and Aceus would begin the Reigen. Smiles would be exchanged, but Aceus’s smile seemed to hold some knowledge. There was an attack, of which Fara’s own little sister was injured. The incident barely made any headlines, due to Danceria preparing it’s Pentennial-it’s five hundredth birthday-and Aceus himself wasn’t aware of it until a week afterward.

There will be a time for Aceus to do what little he could to comfort Fara. But not here, not in front of the cameras. There were a few gardens outside for fresh air and some catching up to be done.

Sabin

Sabin smiled at the young woman who now approached the largely muscular man. “Crown Prince Berengar, you’re a bold one for dancing with Erika.” the Dancerian Prince would chuckle “How are you two doing tonight?”

Rev. Stavros

As with many members of the present clergy, Stavros would stay on the sidelines finding his way to where the traditionalists are, and where he could keep an eye on the Patriarch. Discerning how much support he may have from the Patriarch, and by extension the Kyrenian Christian Community, would prove far more useful and vital than the nobility. Let Aceus, Fara, Damir and his daughter enjoy the festivities. He did not get to this age in spite of poverty and injury by being rash.

The traditionalists who were scandalized by the presence of same-sex couples on the dance floor would be reassured, or perhaps confused by Stavros’s reassurances. “Every dance shall wind to it’s close, some swifter than others.” He had garnered a reputation for prophecy, or rather, he simply stated what the Word echoed throughout history. A different dance was on the mind of the ascetic, and indeed he moved with the Polonaise to the side of the Patriarch, where he would wait until the opportune moment to introduce himself.

Stavros also made sure to give a smile to Sabin, of which he narrowed his eyes. The game began in earnest, and the pieces waltzed across the board.

"I'm sure you will." He turned to make his leave almost bumping into Aceus. He gave a hasty "Oh, excuse me." He would have liked to stay and maybe chat with him and the Princess some more but that'd come later he wanted to see if he could find Cecelia first. Cecelia had dashed off to a place where she could compose herself. Feeling flustered and embarrassed for insulting Princess Fara. A hand fell on her shoulder which made her jump a bit but it was that of her husband. "So here you are. Frankly I'm glad, I was worried you might be in the ladies room."

"I was. But I've started to calm down. I'm so embarrassed right now, I made a fool out of myself."

"Come on, Cecee we all have our faux pas."

"I insulted a royal of an ally to Kuronami. I can't imagine what's going to happen next."

"You're overthinking things. I don't think she was insulted just a bit emotional and look it could happen to anyone, you wanted to cheer her up and I doubt she's really offended." He did want to mention she was willing to apologize but it would make Cecelia feel better if it didn't seem like Ben had to arrange it.

"I'm expected to be a Duchess, a lady of great importance to your family's legacy and home. I can't even mingle at a party well."

"Don't put so much pressure on yourself. Look, I picked you to be my wife and thus rule at my side didn't I? That means I see something special in you. Now just relax, you made one little mistake, not even that just good intentions that didn't work out and all will be forgotten. I doubt she's going to run home and tell how terrible you were."

"I suppose you're right. Maybe I should try to apologize again."

"Maybe but uuh for now let's let her be I think another wants to chat with her and I'm sure we'll see her again. Let's roam the floor a little more."

As Prince Philippe approached us, Adil was just telling a story from a nun of the Kyrenaian brand of Christianity, causing us to laugh and smile as the Prince came up and introduced himself.
I smiled as the Patriarch of the Kyrenaian Christians, a dark-skinned white-haired man with a red coat, welcomed him. "Of course, Philippe-Amir, you would be very welcome!", he said with nod, then proceeded to motion to the other man in our midst: "Son Excellence Nello Aregnaudeau, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Most Serene Republic of Nouvelle-Dunkerque..."
"Charmed.", he said in his usual to-the-point, but still polite manner.
Adil motioned to me. "...Morgane Macánta of the Tribe of Cork, High Priestess of Cailb..."
I bowed my head respectfully. "It is a great pleasure, Prince Philippe."
Adil motioned to the other woman. "...Miss Safura Mésange..."
"Bonsoir, Prince Philippe.", the Pinkette said.
"...and I am Adil Btryrik, Patriarch of the Kyrenaian Christian Community.", Adil finished and bowed his head. "It's a great honour. I must admit, that I did not hear about Rivienland, but I did hear about the devotion to faith in your country."
That was a new one on me, but any inquiry was interrupted by the Orchestra's Jingle.
"Oh, time for dancing!", I said and smiled into the round, "Sadly, I cannot into Polka, so... I'm sorry, Adil."
"Me neither, don't worry.", he said with a smile.
"And since he...", Safura said and pointed to Aregnaudeau with her thumb, "...is a dead fish on the dance floor..." She turned slightly to offer her hand to Philippe. "...would you be interested in taking this dance with me?" She smiled and let a beat pass. "Unless you have other commitments, of course!"
The offer to stay with us and chat was a given.

Princess Maria
As the Princess listened to Rena’s descriptions she was immediately intrigued. She could understand her love for her homeland as Maria saw Rivienland in the same romantic way. It was then the dancing begun, and Maria answered, “Oh, well besides the Prince offering a dance, which I assume will happen later, I am quite free. The way you describe your land makes it sound like something out a novel! Rivienland is quite the same in which we also have several prominent stud farms nearby. I will be honest that while I sometimes ride my horse it is not my favorite activity. Though, before you continue, should we move somewhere more suitable for conversation? While the music is not too loud at this moment, I do not know how busy the hall will get.”

As the members of the group continued to introduce each other Philippe nodded. While Kyrenaia and Nouvelle-Dunkerque sounded familiar, the Prince did not know much about each respective nation.

"Oh no, please, I am not a 'Highness'. Lordship or Sir is fine." he tried to correct her

"Oh petite Massimo, tell her 'you can also call me Tonight'." Roderique added in his French, causing both to snicker.

Returning to normal state Constantino thanked her "Danke. Oh, there is something you can do, bring water to that table where the two old men are. A pitcher if you can, we'll be there also." he once again thanked her and the two bowed and started heading for the table.

"Something light petite Massimo. Don't want to make an ass of yourself this early into the ball, no?" Roderique suggested, grabbing two champagne glasses, clinking glasses they saluted and took sips and watched the dancing. "Speaking of proper titles, why was I just 'Sir Roderique'?" he began.

"What do you mean?" Constantino questioned as he looked on at the dance.

"You could have said who I was. I'm not just 'Sir Roderique'. You could have mentioned 'CEO of Marquet Arms' after that. Any ass-wiper can be a 'sir'. Maybe some poor bastard tonight wants a gun."

"You could've said it yourself."

Roderique was about to respond when he saw something that caught his eye "Shut up for a second Massimo." he put his arm on the young lord's should and leaned him in "You see that? That woman in red?"

"A nice looking woman?"

"You fag, more than nice, a fine woman. But that is separate from the point. That, is also a deal. That's Jolene Gudfrey, a business magnate from Port Ember."

"Okay, that's good to know."

"You are useless Massimo. Someone like her can help me get out of that lock-box Amaglione puts me in. Capisci?"

"Aren't exports kind of expensive?"

"Shut up and hand me a glass." he acquired another glass of champagne and headed towards Jolene and as he reached her, he offered a glass "Bonjour Madame. It is a travesty a women such as yourself finds herself all alone at this event. Roderique de Marquet, Marquet Family Arms. Would you like a drink?"

Constantino remained where he was with his arms crossed and his champagne, wondering how this would go down.

"Holy shit, it's the Polonaise!" Alessandre remarked "I haven't heard this since etiquette school. Do you remember?"

"A bit. Not that I cared much for it. A rather forgettable two years." Luis responded, he had taken his jacket off, leaving him in his vest, shirt and tie.

"How is that nephew of yours?"

"Jose?" Luis questioned, to which Alessandre affirmed "He's fine, little shit is a pain in my ass. Okay so, his father convinces me to let him take over some ports, so I do. Then two years later what happens? I find he's crossing streams with the mafia. I have kept my ports clean for decades, they had to go all the way to Fiore for that crap. Within two years that bastard has ruined it."

"Can't hurt that bad. He only has what? Two, three ports?"

"He oversees seven, including the Tejada ports. And it's not the number of ports I am worried about, it's the damage to my reputation!"

"Should you be telling me this. I sit with the king almost everyday."

"If I cared I wouldn't have told you."

"Good point." Alessandre nodded

A long moment of silence passed by as the two looked on at the dance and its ending, Luis then broke the silence "Alessandre, I know exactly what this is all about, this sudden trip to some random ball that just so happened to involve Marquet. The summit coming up and the question of French autonomy. What I want to know it: why was I brought here?"

Alessandre's smile faded a bit but only to reemerged "You are a smart man Luis. Not as dumb as I take the coast for. But ultimately, you're right. This does involve the summit. You already know, they need a unanimous 'yes' vote from every French house down to the last barony. If I convince someone as big as Marquet to forfeit his family's 'yes', they will remain in us. But outside the French Quarter, two-thirds is needed. We want to make sure they never even make it to one-third. I can guarantee none of the Italian houses go for it, but the Spanish Coast provinces all touch with the French Quarter and your people have had a rather amicable relationship with them. I don't want a single 'yes' vote from your side, and you can make that happen, if it is true you are the most powerful of the Spanish houses."

"You are quite the scheming bastard aren't you?"

Jolene Gudfrey

As Jolene was watching the Polonaise unfold on the dance floor, she was actually pleased that her hand was not asked for. Although she was versed in most dances, including the Polonaise, that was one dance she held no affection for.

While still deep in thought, she was simutaniously approached by a women - a Hausmädchen, offering a tray of drinks, and a middle aged man wearing a black suit with dark grey vest and white shirt, whom offered her a glass of champaigne whilst introducing himself as one Roderique de Marquet of Marquet Family Arms. Jolene accepted the glass without saying a word at first, but then placed it on the outstretched tray, replacing it with a glass of red wine instead. Jolene smiled at the Hausmädchen, and offered a polite "Thank you" in german.

She turned her attention back to Roderique, and offered a soft bow to the gentleman, after which she finally spoke, switching to english; "Good Eve to you fine Sir, I am Ms Jolene Gudfrey - CEO and chairman of Gudfrey's Trading Company. Its an absolute pleasure to make your acquintance! I was wondering if the esteemed de Marquet family would make an appearance tonight. I am glad they did.." Jolene has in fact never in her life have heard of the de Marquet family nor the introduced company, but decided to play the bluff. She shot a very subtle wink at the older gentleman, so subtle that it would take a eagle to have seen it.

Sabin

Sabin smiled at the young woman who now approached the largely muscular man. “Crown Prince Berengar, you’re a bold one for dancing with Erika.” the Dancerian Prince would chuckle “How are you two doing tonight?”

Erika nodded. “He’s been behaving himself, uncle, nothing more lewd than h-nd h-lding.”
“She would’ve castrated me if I did anything else.” added Berengar, with a cheeky grin.
“Oi!” She shot back. “It’s just that I’m worried about ya reputation. For all that we know there’s a tabloid reporter in the chandiler right this moment.”

"I find it very difficult to waltz without holding hands." Sabin would note with a smile. "But that's why I, and by extension Aceus, am here. It's not the first time I've thrown a reporter out of a private function. I doubt very much it will be the last." Sabin sighed, looking nervously at a certain cassocked priest. "Just, be savvy. There are far worse things at functions than the yellow press. Regardless of whether or not you want to admit it, Erika, you are a Princess of Danceria." the muscled man would warn, before smiling.

It wasn't bad on the floor, dancing to something that he was familiar with in high school prom, and doing it with one of the most beautiful actresses puts a smile on his face. Though, he did confess earlier that he had some issues with some movements, to which Aaltje took the pleasure to help him out.

When the dance ended, Aaltje offered to join her as she gestured her head towards the princely pair. Taking her hand, Ruairi gladly accepted. When they sauntered over, he gave a bow to the Prince and Princess, kissing the hand of the latter as he greeted them in a sophisticated manner.

About ninety-percent of our clientele is within Lux Pulchrae, the biggest of which is the state itself, and my family doesn't really put itself out there at all. Now, as business persons let's be honest for a moment and not bullshit each other yeah? I have to admit, it insults me. I would bet and win that you have not heard of my company, but I hope to change that here if you'll allow me." he stopped for a second to unbutton his jack it and open it up, it was starting to annoy him. "To start, I guess you can say we are in a kind of 'Repunzel' situation. We make weapons, the government contracts us at a discounted price, they lower our taxes, give us primacy on contracts, so on and so forth. Others are private individuals and collectors and such, we also buy from others and sell them at home, etc. I am locked in a tower but, allegorically, I am willing to let my hair down for someone to help me out." he took took a sip from his champagne and looked at Jolene "And can an I say, Madame, that you look much nicer in person than in magazines, you can't really tell human beauty from a page."

Constantino watched for another moment "Fuck me, this guy is actually doing it." he said as he chugged his champagne and set it on the drink table, leaving the scene to go back to the table.

"I am quite the bastard, thank you." Alessandre smiled.

"I still don't get why we have to do this all the way here when you could have just visited my home."

"Nothing wrong with a little fun while on business. And I didn't bring you here, His Majesty willed it. His reasoning, I don't know."

"Ah yes, His Majesty, the boy king. He beats your son by what? A mere two years?"

"Yes, that is right."

"How does it feel, taking orders from someone as old as you son?" Luis smiled, sitting back against the chair.

"I would not say it is the age, but the position of the office is who I take orders from. If the pope were seventeen, what am I to challenge?"

Shikonjima wrote:Just like Shiko, Keoke was well aware of the Teressian customs, at least when it came to ending a dance.

Heda, Prinzessin von Dorch.
I blushed lightly and giggled at his own words - I had no idea about what a Hula was and what it entailed, but it sounded fun.
"Indeed, next one's a Polka. A Kyrenaian Polka, in fact.", I said with a smile, "A 'rule' does not exist. It is, however, considered impolite for a woman to hog a man's dancing skills for the entire night and vice-versa. The famed 'all good things in measure', I'm afraid." I shrugged as I led him off the dance floor towards his family and friends. "That's the best I can give you, I'm afraid... is there a golden rule in Shikonjima?"

Danceria wrote:Aceus

Princess Fara bint-Dardan.
When Aceus came, he came with quite an audacious move: He snuck up to me and kissed me before I knew, he was there - I almost had a heart attack! Yet, as we made a bit of small talk with Benedict-Khan, I knew, that Aceus knew about the Al'Arz, about Fadia...
I haven't heard of him, no message, no nothing, so something must have gone wrong along the way. That was inconsequential now, however.
As the dancing started, we danced, I knew, that I wanted to speak with him more privately... and when it ended, I rose to the tips of my toes to whisper into his ear: "Let's go outside... I would love to catch up with you.", I said.
The gardens would be ideal for a little stroll.

Morgane Macánta of the Tribe of Cork.
We watched Prince Philippe depart with Safura, the two looking quite cute together. Both visibly enjoyed themselves, which was always nice.
None of the three of us remaining here missed the man in cassock moving close to Adil, not watching the dancing or listening to the music. I stood on his far side, glancing over to my date for tonight, who subtly shook his head.
Not bother for now, not attack right away.
Nello was of a similar opinion, apparently.
And as the music ended, we applauded as well, Safura looking cute with her cheeks lightly flushed. She offere her arm to Philippe to link so that he could either bring her back to us or invite her for a drink, depending on how much he had liked her dancing.
It would be interesting to see his reaction - and when Cassock-Man would make his move.

Rena, Prinzessin von Wißenthen.
I smiled when Maria chose to stay with me.
I liked riding, but I could understand, if someone wasn't into it either. It was an acquired hobby. Her request for a quieter place had me thinking for a moment.
"How about we go out onto the patio?", I asked, motioning to the glass door leading outside to the large stone patio, which was illuminated by torches for the ambiente and flair, with comfortable basket chairs set up in small groups for sitting. "It's such a beautiful night, how could we miss it?"
I smiled at her.

Port Ember wrote:Jolene Gudfrey

Lux Pulchrae wrote:"Wow" he raised his eyebrows with a smile "Surprised you have heard of it, or my family, at all.

Conatantino watched for another moment "Fuck me, this guy is actually doing it." he said as he chugged his champagne and set it on the drink table, leaving the scene to go back to the table.

Table

Lone Maachen.
I nodded at the instructions. "At once, Your Lordship.", I said, bowed my head and was off as they departed as well.
A minute or so later, I moved to the table with a glass carafe with four glasses, the carafe filled with clear and fresh water. 'Old men' might have been a bit too much, but they were definately older.
I moved so that they both could easily spot me, so that they wouldn't get the impression of me spying on them, then placed the tablet down on the table, put out the four glasses and the carafe.
I rose again, brought the tablet in front of my stomach and bowed my head. "Is there anything else I can bring you, Your Highnesses?", I asked.

Lykke Blon.
The woman took the red wine and placed a glass of champagne on my tray, handed to her by the gentleman. I bowed my head, the gentleman had already a drink and so I was off.
Baronin Wilrun and her date stood nearby, having returned from the dancing, and the young man Khalid Faris, who had inherited his mother's eyes, waved me over. I came over and quicker then I could look, he had already taken a lemonade and a water, the former for Wilrun, the latter for himself.
He nodded to me in gratitude - he was raised with Kyrenaian Handmaidens around, one could see that - and I bowed my head. A moment later, I decided to continue my 'patrol' for anyone needing a drink.

Aaltje Schreyg.
He took not the opportunity to kiss my hand, as it would be proper, but he did understand my gesture as a move towards Vin and his new friend, which was fine by me. Vin was... actually an ex of mine, but the good kind, before either of us knew, what love meant and before anything serious could have come to pass.
Correspondingly, his face lit up as he spotted me.
"Aaltje!", he said with a smile and the merry roundalay of greetings began as we moved off the dance floor, Vin even hugging me lightly. Ruairi was surprisingly sophisticated when confronted with the Prince, who, as it turned out, had seen Crowface, even with his sister, and recommended it to Princess Shiko. "So...", he finally said, still grinning, asking Ruairi, "...what else is new on the reels? Any important projects in the making?"
I looked at Princess Shiko, meanwhile. So, this was his newest flame... she looked cute.
"So, as said Aaltje Schreyg, actress.", I said and glanced to the two men... well, boys. "As said, it's a great pleasure, Your Highness! Wanna go somewhere while the boys talk shop about movies?"

Heda led Keoke off the dancefloor, back to Jirou, Shiruko, and Kyouko, while explaining to him, that there was no Golden Rule as described. Keoke nodded - something along these lines sounded familiar with him.
"It's roughly about the same in Shikonjima" - he said, "so there's not really a Golden Rule there, either. The 'all good things in measure' sounds pretty much like the way it's with us. Don't spend the entire night with the same person, and you're fine."
As they went back to Keoke's family, they were already welcomed.
"Looks like the two of you had a lot of fun over there, eh?" - Jirou said, grinning. "No joke - you guys did an awesome job! Whoever your teachers in Dance School were, they should receive a medal of honor!"
Kyouko grinned for a moment, too. Jirou the jokester ...
Then she turned serious again, but stayed friendly. "I can only agree" - she said. "Duhojimi has blessed you, really!" Duhojimi was one of the Ryoukami, the Dragon-Gods, who served next to the Four Souls - to be precise, Duhojimi was the Dragon-Goddess of Music and Dance. "I could watch you the entire night, but I'm sure, that not only a few people would consider it a bit impolite."
"Hai" - Keoke agreed, "We had that issue ..."

Meanwhile, Vin had let Shiko off as well, easily spotting Aaltje, whom Shiko had already had a conversation in the New Lands with. Aaltje's dance partner had been a colleague of hers, namely Ruairi Forrest Buchan, from Folaisia. Shiko had lightly bowed her head to both of them, as Vin was already talking to Ruairi, in a straight manner. No doubt, he had found someone to talk shop with - perhaps not only shop, but the entire Nashinya Mall, for Aaltje seemed to have certain apprehensions as to how long this could take.
She introduced herself to the Shikonjimanese Princess again - not out of necessity, but of politeness - and directly asked her, if she wanted to switch the location and leave the boys alone with their shop-talk.
She nodded. "The pleasure is entirely mine, Miss Schreyg! And yes, I might be a bit thirsty now, from the dance, so we might organize ourselves something liquid, I think. I assume, that we can leave the boys alone for a minute, now can't we?"

When the song came to a conclusion the partners finished off their dance. It may be likely someone snapped a few pictures which wouldn't be a problem for them. "What a lovely dance, Pacifica"

"You as well, Miela. See you're really not bad at all."

"I suppose I have my hidden talents." The two returned to the table "Can you believe, Pacifica is quite the dancer."

Aceus

The two danced and exited elegantly out of the Grand Ballroom, the reporters nodding sagely to one another in knowing. Aceus was Fara’s significant other, and while their relationship had been mostly clandestine, it was clear that they were gradually becoming more and more comfortable with being a couple in public. No doubt they’ll reconnect, both in happenings and in lips, in the garden beyond.

If only Aceus wholly shared in the merriment.

By no means wasn’t he happy, the most beautiful woman he could ever imagine-a wild and gilded force of nature that he couldn’t help but marvel and count himself the luckiest man alive was by his side. But that same woman was suffering, for her little sister was injured in an attack...Aurelia too. Al’Arzz was barely noted in the upcoming Pentennial, and Aceus himself was whisked across Danceria shaking hands and overseeing ceremonies. By the time the Dancerian Overseas Intelligence Bureau had cautiously approached him, it was because Aceus naturally wanted to see if the Sultana or a certain Princess of Megido could stop by. The younger Princess of Megido, one Fadia bint-Dardan was injured in a terrorist attack roughly a week ago.

When they were sufficiently alone, Aceus’s diplomatic mind began to craft together a myriad of excuses and apologies, but Aceus himself let his heart be the guide. On a nearby bench, with very little words exchanged, Fara would be held close to the beating heart of Aceus. Not for the sake of having a beautiful woman in his arms, but to show that woman that even though he might not have been there when she needed him, he was there now. The embrace would last, whether Fara wished to drop the stoic facade and let her tears flow over her family’s injury, relief that Fadia was on the mend, or even yell at the Dancerian King for not even seeming to send a text or letter when they were in correspondence with one another, Aceus prepared himself for it.

Rev. Stavros

Stavros’s face was that of worn marble, almost perpetually stoic save for the keenest of eyes, who say that even though the Reverend was blind, he was calculating. Plotting. Scheming.

To Adil, and once the waltz and the polite applause concluded, the man would bow. “Your Beatitude,” the blind elder would address the Patriarch firstly, “Stavros Galanis, Heiromonk of the Monastery of St. Panteleimon of Rhûn.” It was strange to relate himself to the seminary of his long distant youth, where he was first fully initiated as a follower of Christ, but procedures were procedures. While celibacy was a unique phenomenon in the Kyrenaian Church, voluntary poverty and Fools-For-Christ may not be as common. “A pleasure to finally meet you.

Morgane Macánta he vaguely recalled, the priestess of gods dead and neglected, and equally sparse was intel on her. He only knew the name from the ledger and from hearing about the Fermanagh Case, of whom King Aceus was looking into to circumvent Princess Fara’s injury. He would, of course, have to ask on how the young Rona was doing, when appropriate of course. Part of being a “Fool” was exploiting the overconfidence of the impious.

"Oh, we have to start the dance," Lady Mháire said. She also spoke German, but her accent was not Finnish, but had a Celtic impact."You know how much I love this part of the Soirees".
"Well, then you must excuse me, Minister," said the prince. "I am unable to refuse my wife a wish, but we still have to speak, I am a person who loves to learn".

Jolene chuckled, maintaining her sly smile. She realised - and accepted the fact that her bluff had failed, and that it somehow insulted the man. She found it odd, as it was a mere and slight professional flirtation. Nontheless, it did not seem that he minded too much, as he was obviously more focused on the business matters he wished to discuss.

She sighed softly and responded, hiding her slight annoyance, with an attempt to recover the situation whilst attempting to maintain her dominance, imagined or real; "Oh Mister de Marquet, I meant no harm, nor offense. I was merely being polite, since I did not want to insult your life's work by admitting the lack of fame it has manages to garner so far..", she paused and flashed an innocent smile, knowing that her sly semi insult could strike a nerve, hoping it did not. "So I do admit I have been caught - my appolagies", another smile; "And might I add you are very direct and forward. I find your avoidance of normal social protocol.. an interesting approach.. But I will bite good sir, I will most definitely display an interest in your company's future. Yet as you admit, you are unknown on the international market, so I would need assurance that you know your stuff.. I would admire a invite to your company and factory? That would surely build a foundation for the future.."[i] and finally she allowed a small blush to appear on her soft and silky cheeks; [i]"Thank you for the compliment fine Sir. You flatter me"

He winced and rubbed his sore cheek, while Erika dusted off her hands.

Berengar turned back to Erika. "Oi, what was that for?"

From what was expected, Aaltje reassured herself along with the Shikonjimanese princess. With that, they were off, prompting Ruairi to face the prince.

Ruairi then let his eyes squint for a little.

Roderique
"You are welcome Madame, there's more flattering to come if you'd like." he gave a smile, after a moment it waned a bit "But forgive me for my seemingly harsh or blunt attitude, it is different back home, the 'social protocol' you say. Politeness is honesty, flattery is just a nice way to lie. Being direct and forward is just the way most people talk, business-wise and socially, which leads to foreigners thinking we are a rude people, and it can seem like that but I assure you we are not. And don't worry about insulting me, fame is not my priority, I just want to sell my product and make a decent bit of money. If I have to remain anonymous and sell it under the table abroad, I would. Plus my family has been in the weapons trade for centuries, they were blacksmiths and weapon dealers in the Middle Ages, selling swords, hammers, shields, halberds, you name it. Then guns came along and that's what we've been into ever since. Consider yourself invited, to more than just the company."

Alessandre, Luis, Constantino
"I supposed you have a point there my friend. 'Dignity of the man and humility of the office' as the bishops used to say. So you think you can convince Roderique to your side?" Luis questioned.

"Well-" before Alessandre answered, a maiden came and brought them water in a pitcher and some glasses, she asked if they needed anything else, or at least that's what he thought she was saying. Alessandre answered in English "No..thank you. Oh, um, food? Cibo?" he said making a motion with his hand toward his mouth, his hand as if it were holding a small food.

"Father you look ridiculous." luckily Constantino came early enough before his father made a clown of himself, then addressed the maiden "Nice to see you again. My father wants to know if there is any food. I guess something small like an hors d'oeuvre. Unless there is a set time for that, then we'll just wait."

Prince Philippe
Linking arms with Safura, Philippe began walking her back towards the group and remarked, “That was quite the dance, my lady. I hope I was a sufficient dance partner.”

The Prince found the lady someone fun to dance with, but did not wish to just stay with one lady the entire evening. Though he hoped he never offended anyone, Philippe preferred to always glide from one conversation to the next. He loved meeting new people and, as a result, rarely committed too much time to anyone unless he was truly fascinated.

Reaching the group, the Prince let go of Safura and bowed. “Thank you for that dance.” He turned towards the group and joked, “I hope you did not mind our absence?”

Princess Maria
“Oh, what a delight,” the Princess exclaimed. “I love patios and, as I commented to my brother earlier, we are truly blessed with nice weather. Walking out onto the patio with Rena, Maria sat on the basket chairs. “What an interesting chair,” the Princess commented. “Anyways, I forget, but did I ask you why you are not dancing this evening? Or, if perhaps are you waiting for a certain man,” Maria playfully teased.

After the small mishap with Herzogin Alvina, her son and daughter in law, couole with the blow in friendship with Princess Aurelia, Agathe had ended the call, and had dansed the Polonaise with Bradley, both of them managing a decent dance, but who could have been better. At least they had not stepped on the other's toes.
And so, as the dance had ended, the couple had moved to the side.
"Well, I wonder if Anax and Anna have bad luck that clings to them, because everytime they try to be polite, they end up being rejected, says Myers with an angry sigh.
- Once again, it's about protocol and all the trivialities to it, simply replies the Dowager Empress. Then again, I shouldn't have answered the call.
- Come one Agathe, it's your son! says Bradley.
-I know! Look, what's done is done, and as you've seen, he'll have some work to do with the princess since he blew it up. So for now, let's find someone else to talk to. That young couple, over there? she asks as she looks sideways to two persons standing next to a Hausmädchen.
- Baronin Wilrun von Port Monee and Mister Khalid Faris, says Bradley without hesitation, as if he was reciting a lesson by heart.
-Good job remembering all those names, I guess it comes with all those years being a security guard for those type of events. Let's see now how you approach them, adds the Dowager Empress.
-Aye Ma'am, answers the Colonel, before moving towards the Hausmädchen, and nonchalantly picking up the last glass of white wine remaining.
"Excuse me, Baronin Wilrun von Port Monee and Mister Faris? asks Myers with a polite tone. I just wanted to tell you that I greatly enjoyed your dancing moves during the Polonaise. Watching you certainly helped me not stepped on my partner's toes. I'm Colonel Bradley Myers, he adds as he extends his hand towards Wilrun. My companion for tonight, Dowager Empress Agathe Blachkov, he adds with a small jerk of the head towards Agathe, who is standing a bit behind him, having picked the glass of water on the tray.

Sabin

Sabin nodded, understanding nothing of what was said. Erika was an...anomaly. She did occasionally speak in cryptic and odd phrases, something that earned her the correspondence of a certain Reverend Stavros. Danceria's oldest opponent of the pagan monarchy, longtime firebrand and "fundamentalist". Erika loved her father, dearly. That much was certain...but the Dancerian Prince had his doubts. She was a woman, who was cast aside in her youth, and raised in arguably one of the most Christian nations known to Danceria as a soldier. Aceus, while charming, was still a Valarist. He kept well the faith of his forebears, and in that regard wouldn't budge. It wouldn't surprise Sabin if Stavros aimed to use Erika against her father in some way, if only to put a Christian monarch on the throne. Was Erika really ready for all the politics her presence may entail?

Shaking his head and returning to reality. "Well, at least you two are having fun. I'll just...go and locate some hors d'oeuvres." the Prince admitted weakly.
