With just six hours left a there is a noticeable gap at the top. With less time left, we can now talk more confidently about the current hierarchy in the election. There’s no shame in being a low tier candidate early. Comebacks are more than possible in the next round than in the first.


At the top we find nations with two hundred, three hundred or even six hundred votes. Trans Anarcho-Communist Lesbian Catgirls rose slowly and then grew faster and faster, building up like a snowball. For Secretary General Caelapes’ supporters, who totaled hundred vote before anyone else, seeing another nation break higher milestones is concerning. On the bright side, the leads held by Caelapes in 2016’s minor rounds were slowly ground down, and as of right now Caelapes may have finished round one at a higher point than the Trans Anarcho-Communist Lesbian Catgirls will. Kuriko and McMasterdonia are serious about their efforts, and these candidates have been reward handsomely. With endorsements and active campaigns they are a pair to keep an eye on.


One place down is Bigtopia. Bigtopia is a few dozen votes in-between fourth and sixth place. Placing outside of the top five after holding on for long could be damaging. We’ve already seen vote per hour counts slow down for some who left that top five marker. This could hit bigtopia base hard as there are many other independent candidates to support, with or without RPGs. Nations like Jocospor, Valentine Z need to look for pushed of a few dozen votes or more to smash up into the top five. Though that’s not the most important thing in the world, at least two of the five nations from 2016 who finished in the top five early did not enter the final round. Who else could enter if it isn’t these nations? Maybe Giovanniland the crab candidate from The West Pacific. The Salaxalans were runners up last time, and were barley in the top 10 at this point. Dekks’ Garfield cult started out slow, but is building up radioactive lasagna steam.


Going near the end of the top twenty five we find states like, Aminist Uganda, The Stalker, Eura, The American Empire, and others who have hovered around twentieth to thirtieth place. These nations are coming in and out the top ranks but are only around twenty votes apart. Other nations in the tier like Todd McCloud (listed 24th), Kakazagistan (listed 2nd), and Atlantian Oceania (listed 19th) are on the 1st page of the ballot but are ranked the top 25. Support could crater if these nations are dubbed unviable. A deep push can put them far away from the drop zone, at the expense of some nations in the twentieth twenty fifth place range. Some of these candidates can surge up when the vote is reset. NewTexas was one of those states, going from the mid twenties to the top five single round. They’re now found ten votes away from 25th, can a Texas sized bolt of NatSov lighting strike twice?


Further down we find states who are in a desperate struggle for votes. Jar Wattinree are a pro furry nation listed on the first ballot, Auxorii has running aggressively against the WA, and Tinhampton has been posting on the board frequently too. None have done well. The Derpy Democratic Republic Of Herp has already sent telegrams for this election with little to show for their efforts. Some campaigns such as Bala Mantre or Pertsjan are listed on the 1st ballot page, and have not benefited at all. The editor’s pet favorite Cheesy Cheese Island is on thee votes and tied with Cucumber Land. Are cucumbers really that tasty?

While taunting satisfies the base, only objective results will stop criticism of Idi Amin. Round two will be an important test for the candidacy of Aminist Uganda. A sharp improvement could lead to a return to the top 5. Slower returns could kill the fun early.


Update: Morover, who had just over five votes with six, dropped out of the race and endorsed the third place Kuriko. As the first round wraps up, could we see more candidates dropping out. We poised a question to the sports candidates, who are underperforming from last time, and received no comment from the candidates about either dropping out.

One exchange in this niche group did take place between the editor of the news report and a supporter of Eura.

Eura is my preferred choice but given that Atlantian Oceania is actually getting votes from outside of NS Sports, we need to unify behind Atlantian Oceania or we're not going to have a candidate in the top 25.

On the flip side there has been a report from VilTur which alleges that most AO voters are random voters who made their choice because of the candidate's high order on the current list. AO did start their campaign considerably early.

While there are NS Sport regulars on both lists, one has considerably more. That would be the main argument in Eura’s favor during this Eura/AO dispute.

While many other niches have split votes, none seem to be in a tighter position that the sports vote, which is looking to slowly grind it’s way back to the top five in the world.

With four hours left in a long first round the Catgirls remain in the lead ahead of Secretary General Caelapes 720-454. Both candidates only make up around 30% of the vote, so in round 2 others could rise against both the establishment and the incumbent. Kuriko is at 422 votes, nearly tying the incumbent. McMasterdonia is still in fourth ahead of Bigtopia 245 and 191 votes respectively. All five candidates have a majority of the vote, but none have control of this election yet.

Jocospor and Valentine Z are still in a position to break into the top 5, with 138 and 115 votes. Wymondham is looking for a comeback as he’s at 110. Then Racoda with 94, lastly 9003 and Giovanniland with 69 (nice) rounds out the top ten. these are rough estimates, and there are small boosts and slip ups every hour, and votes can sneak in.

One other candidate has a bold tactic in this election. While you cannot have multiple members of the world assembly, you can always post with possible puppets to support your campaign.

From memory this candidiate doesn’t own the name Panama. That was already taken by a high population nation, so some place won’t be seeing the astroturf. How is this campaign doing?

With just over one twelfth of a day remaining, the race is on for the final few slots in the top 25. Aminist Uganda, The Stalker and Treadwellia and other were able to keep themselves out of the drop zone. Atlantian Oceania, Kakazagistan and Lurusitania are in 25th place or just a vote or two away. Other candidates such as Kaystein, Todd McCloud and Eura can come in 25th with a late surge. Any long shots either need to be new candidates, or must work on their campaigns for the next round.
At the top of the ladder, Jocospor and Valentine Z were not quite able to break into fifth, but they’v done well enough to get on the blue ticker. Causal voters will see that and their high spots on the voting list, and may give them a few extra votes. The question for nations who have smaller voting cores, and even the large ones, is how many votes they can retain.


One nation that has made quite the stir in this election is The Bigtopia. Their Bazookas for everyone platform has a fair share of fans, but not many have gilled the candidate on the details. We at the Boot’s Leg were able to gain a one on one interview with The Bigtopia.
Q: You're in the top five and have been for most of the round. Did you ever expect to make it this far? What's the secret to your success?
A: Of course I did. I'm a winner, and winning is what I do best. The secret to my success is that I'm a winner.

Q: Some are offering cards, other catgirls, you are willing to give bazookas away to the people. Where will they come from.
A: The World Assembly, of course. You know, they have a stockpile of bazookas in there, but they don't wanna give them to anyone. So sad. So bad. So very very disappointingly sad and bad.

Q: You're an independent candidate, separate from the major GCRs and organizations such as The Black Hawks and Europe. How will establishment lives change if you are elected?
