I've done some raiding and it was mighty fun.

I have to say, the fun of raiding is destroying hard-built nations. And it's fun to defend as well. It's not the raider's problem if the defenders are incompetent.

I started raiding because my region had a Communist (no-longer) army, and we went around raiding unjust regions, such as Fascists. And raiding is quite fun, actually, if it is not against two-week old regions, like DEN does. And I don't tend to occupy raid, mostly just tag (occupying a region for a day or so). And I do have remorse and morals, as I leave the region back to their previous state and never bother them again.
