Ideas for next year's Z-Day

Postby Techolandia » Wed Oct 30, 2019 4:24 pm

I had started a thread for this last year, but it didn't reopen when the next Z-Day started, so I'm making a new one.

Something that would be convenient for me would be some way to view a sortable list of all of the nations in my region that had chosen a certain response to the zombies. For example, a list of nations embracing the zombies sorted by number of zombies could be used to decide which nations to send kill squads to.

Or a way to sort by most amount of zombies.

Would like an option that disables these events from including your nation. No way to enable it during the event, NS appears like normal and your nation isn't included in the event stats.

I don't like how zombies will generate even if you're fully cured. I think this is a new mechanic and don't appreciate that all nations have to keep being cured. In a feeder this is cruel.

As for balancing, embracing the zombie hordes is too powerful.
  1. There is one nation (Destral nui) in my home region that has embraced the zombie horde. Every "hourly update" we cure them to 0 infected (everyone else is cured, they're the only one who has any zombies whatsoever), only for 3 billion zombies to appear out of nowhere. Curing/killing doesn't auto-generate 20% of your population as survivors/dead every hourly update, so why does embracing? Especially when there are 0 zombies in the region to infect people to begin with.
  2. The ability to switch nations from curing/killing to embracing is far too frequent (the chance is too high) for something this powerful. As mentioned here, only a few high-level zombie nations can effectively control an entire region, by converting population and preventing people from curing them.
  3. These two compound on each other. There is no way for people to remove embracing nations from their region (beyond kicking them), and every hour these nations get massive boosts to their zombie population. (I understand that more zombies would be generated if there are zombies already, but when the region is entirely cured, it's weird. Even if there was one zombie remaining I would accept this behavior, but when there are 0 zombies across the whole region, where are they coming from?)
  4. Furthermore, it has effectively locked us out of getting on any leaderboard this year. We could have ended up on most survivors + no infected, but every hour we randomly get 3 billion zombies without any way to stop this from occurring, even though we have eradicated all the zombies.

If this behavior is intentional, why? Even in-universe, it makes no sense for 3 billion zombies to appear out of literally nowhere, and it makes getting 100% cure impossible, which is quite frustrating. In past years, this has not been the case, so why now?

One notion I found myself mulling to add a new dimension, combine it (sort off) with the nuke feast. When you get your own region down a certain path, get a few nations to focus on sending weapons to other regions and on defending automatically from external weapons. This would really make inter region alliances, trust and rivalrys come to life.

Since we have to wait until the next Z-Day, I'll just lurk in Moderation while the next Nationstates event is being worked on.

I don't know how this may be implemented, but a way to sort nations based on what type they are (exterminator, cure, or horde) would be a good way to quickly find out what certain nations are, especially when searching for hordes.

Disable population increases during N-Day.

It didn't matter if the nation had survivors, were 100% zombies or were 100% dead- the people added by the population increase during the update a few hours ago appeared as survivors. At the same time, Z-Day ended, so there was no way to infect them.

I spent a lot of time yesterday killing a nation's people. I look at the end results and see 4 million survivors.

I infected another nation and nobody cured it. I look at the results, and there are 3 million survivors.

This made being 100% infected or dead 100% impossible. Either the population increase should be disabled, the new people should appear as zombies in fully zombified Nations and as dead people in fully dead nations, or Z-Day should end a hour earlier, before the update.

Idea: Have a leaderboard for nations and regions with most people infected, most zombies cured and most zombies killed

Make cures actually effective?

It took me literally 12 hours straight to disinfect my entire region, and it required 5 puppets to finish the task

(And I had to use a TZES pretty frequently too, since they're so much better than using cure missiles when each missile can only clean up a measly 1 million zombies when a nation's starting to lower in infected)

Keshiland literally wrote:I would give it a no. A country that lies about how free, or how great, or how humanitarian it is can never be developed. Example, NK lies and says they are democratic and are not, the US lies and says we are free yet we incarcerate millions for a medical plant. See we are basically a larger more populated North Korea.
