ACT I: A PYRRHIC VICTORY

You've been dragged from paddy fields, been hidden in dirt-bed trucks, snucked-in to the most cliche of places; but finally, after all sorts of hoops trying to outlast the movement's bureaucracy, you've arrived. You've been in this rotting, stinking place for hours, with only the radio they've given you to entertain you. You go through their broadcasts, laying in the cramped, musty, almost cell-like cubicle they've provided you; listening to Resistance broadcasts and State-media drone on.

And then, an explosion.

The entire headquarters was shaken by the obvious radioactive combustion above ground. Something's up, something big.

A man in worn-out fatigue, with a primitive Cold War rifle waltzes into the room you've been held in. You're escorted into a small carrier jet, big enough to fit all three Arms, with the others, who you have yet to meet. The jet takes off without warning, out from a cave and into the bright tropical skyline.

Paddy fields lined with armed guards transition into an urban landscape blown to hell as the high-velocity vehicle zooms through aerial radars.

The man rises from his seat beside the pilot and faces you, with the rest of the soldiers sitting beside you.

"Welcome to Neo-Manila boys. Or what's left of it."

[The Batavia]

It's funny, isn't it? One moment you're fighting as shadow, trying to kill the giant, the next you're trying to save it.

"King Cobra" had been t hinking deeply ever since he joined the 14th Arm. Only a few years ago, he was in the PAS killing Communists, now he's back to kill the undead. Playing with a M.A.P.R, a Batavian magnetic round that can be used by 5.56 NATO rifles, between his fingers this entire time to entertain himself. But now it's finallt time.

"How's the radiation?" He asked with a light Flemish accent as he stood up and pulled his hood over his head.

The man smirks, fixing his vest and brandishing his bayonet.

"Oh, forgive us. We haven't had the luxury to introduce ourselves. You can call me Captain. Brother-Captain Selurong. The most esteemed pilot ensuring our throttle won't kill us before we even fire a round is Brother Aguila."

He reaches out his hand for "King Cobra" to shake.

Hierro looks at the man, the enemy of the nation he served. Why he was out here helping the enemy was a mystery even to him, but they were Mansuduyan's orders. He had to follow them. Perhaps it was sabotage, he thought; make sure the PASAF loses this battle.

Manila, he knew Manila. At a time, the capital of the Pan-Asiatic States and the Fardhinon Empire. Now, they blasted it with some nuke. Massive one at that. It only made his blood boil, that the Tagalogs would destroy Selurong again as they did hundreds of years back. They have changed little.

He calibrated his receptors, taking in as much as he could with his senses. Perhaps there would be some sort of infected waiting for them the moment they stepped outside, those were the things Hierro was looking for. The question is, would even his enhanced senses be able to see past the wasteland of the nuclear aftermath?

[Lethen Empire]

“I still can’t believe we’re in the same arm.” Leon moped. He and his cousin had been placed in Arm 15. This meant that his doting, overprotective cousin could continue clinging to him.

“Listen, Leon, I want you to sit back and take a supportive position when you can. Let me do the work.” cooed Rubie.

“I didn’t become an elite serving the Kaizer just to let my cousin pretend to be a parent.” Leon hissed. “Well, whatever. Just have my back.”

“That would go without saying.”

Hans stretched a little. The Prussian-Polish marksman reflected on the events that had led to him being in his current situation.
A few days earlier, he and his spotter, Marie, had infiltrated via Zodiac and made contact with the Rebellion. As soon as they found out he was a Fallschirmjaeger, he was taken in.
Speaking of which, Marie was right beside him.
Without a word, he took out his accordion. Noticing him, Marie took out her flute(sans brick tied to the end as a flail*).
"Any requests?"

"The objective is the same. We've broadcasted it, but if you missed it, we're to rescue Arm 6, recently incarcerated without a Habeas Corpus; along with countless others. Expect an infiltration operation, not a free-for-all. I want tactics and coordination.

Let me be clear, gentlemen. There will be no infighting as long as these menaces are within our shared borders. And besides, not all of us are 'Good Children of Papa-Asia' either.

You'll know what I mean when the time comes. For now, brace for landing."

The plane depresses its altitude, going against strong winds with an even stronger throttle. Inside the communal room, all weapon racks are vigorously shaking.

"We're heading near the bombed-out production center of Neo-Manila. Many of these factories are older than the States themselves. When the Americans first built Ironworks to supplement their gun-production, they paid for a lot of what was practically slave-labor. Based on what we know of the virus, we know they resurrect corpses of the fallen. So keep your eyes peeled."

"Kapitan! Dropship landing."

"Hold on boys!"

"Verstaandin." said Leon and Rubie in unison.

Leon was visibly concerned. He had faced humans before, plenty, and faced the cruelty of Lethen elite training regimens. But the very idea of fighting the undead unnerved him. Rubie, however, kept her usual sultry expression and little smile. If you've got a high perception stat - The lightest hint of apprehension betrayed Rubie's faux confidence. Perhaps she was thinking the same thoughts as Leon, or perhaps she was worried about him. The view of the little specks of what used to be a city certainly didn't help.

Rubie stood up, putting a hand on the plane walls for balance. She spoke with a moderately thick Lethen accent, as opposed to Leon's rather light accent. "It's a pleasure to serve with you all. Ich heite Rubie, and this is Leon --" Rubie points to her short comrade, "--hailing from Lezenreik."

As the Lethen unit disembarked, the first and foremost thing that met their blue, Aryan eyes was the sheer emptiness and desolation left by the FLEIJA. A cool and calm breeze sifted through the air, as dozens of pamphlets calling on citizens to evacuate flew on courseless and in every direction from the heavens. In the mud, skeletons of the victims; mothers forever holding their children, teenagers who would never grow old, men drinking their last rounds of whiskey lay fossilized like muses for the dead. Almost like a work of art, so elegant and yet so devilishly tragic.

The Combined Arms continued forward, following the Echelon Captains, who were crouching slightly in alertness. They continued down a muddy, concrete ruin, until the suburban landscape reached a collapsed Skyscraper. In the rubble, the commanders gave the signal to Arm 13 and 14 to hide left and right respectively.

"People's Police. one-'o-clock. The stronghold is just up ahead."

Armed elements of the Gendarmerie were clad in thick, black attire.

The resistance was a force of around 50 men by now, as other planes linked up with the entire Division to prepare for the assault.

Snipers had also taken their positions for the firefight to come, hidden God knows where.

"Does anybody have a point-of-view? I can't see shit."

Captain Selurong looked around his squad.

"Anybody with good eyes?"

“Mmh.” Ruby noted. She’d look ahead and make educated estimates where she couldn’t just plain see it.

[ Perception (3) Check Failed ]

Ruby peeked through the rubble, and was welcomed by bright rays of searchlights radiating from the top of a Lantaka-Class Airship hovering overhead. She was able to make out a rough estimate of 6 Gendarmerie by the vanguard, with possible supporting guns from the rows of torn shops lining the intersection up ahead. The Captain noted that the objective was forward by another two streets, making a steep left on the third.

"Alright.", responded Selurong, cocking his KT Submachine-Gun up.

"We could do a forward assault, or we could raid the shops from street to street. Or have any of you other ideas?"

Marie shrugged. "I could go check again in case she missed anything. In any case, I'd advocate drawing them out to a cramped place and then just slaughtering them there."

"Ill-advised. That would be too risky. If Ruby's right, then we may have more eyes on the horizon than we can handle. We need to take them out. Now."

Leon nodded to Rubie. The two cocked their MG41s and performed some equipment checks. Leon’s eyes dilated in a strange fashion.

“Since it’s clear to likely we’re vastly outnumbered, I’m betting that our best bet is hitting their strongest point first. Ja, Kapiten?” Ruby inferred.

[Fardhin]

"Does anybody have a point-of-view? I can't see shit."

Captain Selurong looked around his squad.

"Anybody with good eyes?"

"Let me try spotting them." Hierrio said, as his eyes began to dilate in a mechanical way, as if they were cameras. His ears as well, began to do their work; receiving not just the sounds that could be heard by a normal human, but high-pitch and low-pitch sounds too; even being able to pick up on radio signals.

[Democratic Exodian Territories]

Off to the far-left side, Master Sergeant Romeo Alcono peered through the 4.5x-power scope of his large, intricately-engraved .772 double rifle, his dark brown eyes silently scanning the landscape. His STA's heads-up display was off for now, but the goggles remained on his eyes, as the gas mask on the lower half of his face. Had his normally slick hair not been covered by a superalloy helmet, it would be blowing in the wind.
Compared to everything he'd seen, this was nothing; he had been a witness to so much action he was barely moved at all by the consequences.
He'd known the reasons why his parents, today in some countryside militia bunker back in Exodia, had left the Philippines. For that reason he'd hated the communists and socialists- but monsters were far worse than anything men could create, he surmised. His political views accounted to nothing in the face of this hell.
Whatever the circumstances, there would be no hurrahs when this Johnny came marching home.

To his immediate right, Senior Corporal Andretta Jansa combed the area for targets with her own gray Italian eyes, scope and AHBR battle rifle, rechambered in 7.62x51 NATO for this particular mission.
She shot a glance at Alcono's shrouded, armored face, then went back to her rifle.

"Not how you expected your parents' homeland to be like, right?" she asked over an encrypted comms frequency that only the two could use, in a softer, gentler voice that didn't exactly suit the situation. Nevertheless, this was how the two of them talked in private.

"Exodian, Pinoy, whatever I am, I shouldn't care now. I've borne witness to a lot fuckin' worse. I'm not saying this is a cakewalk, but it's nothing new.
Besides, when this is all over? What's done is done- when we say it's done." Romeo responded, his voice a breathy but collected whisper.

"Any opinion on the current situation, Sergeant?" Andretta asked, now in a louder, more official-sounding tone, one the group could hear normally.

"I say a combination of a forward assault, multiple close-quarters street raids, and a minor group covering everyone's six in an attempt to lure them out. We currently don't know their strongest point just yet," Romeo addressed the group, his eyes away from his sights for a moment. "It would give the impression of a disorganized free-for-all, but really a decently-coordinated attack that they can't coherently counter. Have individual personnel spread out as to make smaller targets."

"I disagree, in my opinion." Andretta spoke. "That'd be too complicated. I propose a combination of the street raids and the cover force to lure them out. Captain, perhaps I should take a look before we decide?" She turned to Selurong.

We currently don't know their strongest point just yet," Romeo addressed the group, his eyes away from his sights for a moment. "It would give the impression of a disorganized free-for-all, but really a decently-coordinated attack that they can't coherently counter. "A forward assault would be suicidal, and so would a complex plan here. I believe that the raiding plan is most suitable to us. I carry smoke grenades, so I can keep us all safe~." said Rubie.

"I have shrapnel grenades, on that note." Leon added.

With a roughly fainting sound of breathing, the Stormtrooper Officer of the Union Army occasionally see through his holosight as he looked down on the corpses near his boots. Behind his metal gas mask, Günther's face was contorted in mild disgust at the sight of so many germs. This entire place disgusted him as this was a breeding ground for bacteria of all kinds. But nothing, however, is as revolting to see as the living Undead. His own eyes stared through his mask as he believed that zombies are a utter mockery of human health and cleanliness.

When the captain alerted them of the Stronghold ahead of them, Günther gripped his incendiary grenade as if it was filled with holy water to wash this wretched place. Going from his education, an Officer wouldn't exactly lead the charge into a fortified position however, he's the foot soldier now and that means he will be the one getting his Katar blades dirty the most. But for now, he will keep his distance as training states that melee is meant as a defense against close-quarter attacks unless it is part of an offensive breach.

"Hmmm," cooed Rubie, "what do you think? I'm guessing...you want to take them head on, hm~?"

"How preposterous." Gunther flatly responded, "Under normal circumstances, we could assault the stronghold through overwhelming volumes of artillery and small arms fire, but since we are outnumbered we have to take a more indirect approach."

Turning towards Rubie with his mask as expressive as a tombstone, Gunther continued his mini lecture. "Union strategy calls for bomb raids, poison gas attacks followed by squads of flamthrowers. Since we have neither of those, we either have to avoid breaching this place or isolate it from reinforcements. If necessary, we will have to fight for every inch of this location through melee engagements. Given that the Unclean has risen against us, we have to keep our engagement at range at all times.
