I'm not sure if it's even possible to enforce this, but Forest is going to get screwed out of the Most Survivors + No Quarantine trophy because another region (Equilism) resorted to questionable practices with the use of puppets and surging them in from hidden regions at the last second. I know puppets are sort of the elephant in the room for this game, but this sort of stuff is ridiculous. Maybe have mods verify stats next year by checking for this sort of stuff? I don't know, either way, this is really sad.

Sore loser implies we lost, rather than being pipped at the post when we weren't aware anyone else was even a threat to our ranking :p

Not sure how that's really applicable, since it's not like we could have done anything about it anyways :)

All the same, it was the best Z-Day so far. I had so much fun and the teamwork within Forest was exceptional. Sure the last 1¼ hours were disappointing, but I'm part of a dynamic region that pulls together to make these big events special.

Hey there, Ziotah. Tell me if I'm wrong, but I assume what really stings here is the last minute surge. I definitely understand your frustration, if so.

Most of us are resigned to the fact that top-ranked regions are typically packed with old puppets - that's always been the case for Z-Day. But when you're watching the rankings at each tick to see where you're placing, it's not fun to have your expectations overturned at the very last possible minute.

I get it.

We were talking on our Discord server earlier about how impressed we were at Forest's efforts. I suggested we should team up and be zombie-fighting BFFs each year, because not everybody has the organizational wherewithal - or the guts - to keep their borders open through the end game. That's always been our approach, and it's been a real delight to watch another region that shares that spirit and that commitment. Regardless of which of us comes out ahead in the population numbers, Forest deserves all the credit for the hard work it takes to maintain top-notch security without a quarantine; in my admittedly biased opinion, that's where all the real thrill and achievement of Z-Day comes in. A top 10 finish in the no-quarantine category is far more impressive than all those big regions hiding behind their passwords.

I'm sorry that your hopes were disappointed this year. But I look forward to seeing you in the rankings again at Z-Day 8, and at as many of these as lie ahead. Whoever takes the top spot, I know I'll be cheering you on.

To be mildy fair, we were behind a password for the first 20 hours or so, and only dropped after we got our own region under control. No password whatsoever is something to maybe think about for next year though...

Hm... it'd be nice to be able to track that, too. Scrolling through your RMB, I noticed your worry about larger regions dropping their passwords at the last minute to get into that category. That hadn't occurred to us, but it seems like a legitimate concern. If Admin hasn't already put something clever into the code to prevent it, maybe we should ask for that.

I'd recommend giving the no-password-ever approach a try next year, just for kicks. Depending on the geographical composition of your region, certain hours can be rough. If you've gotten a good start on it, though, you can usually reverse the damage of any hordes that slip through the cracks. It's crazy, but isn't that where all the fun comes from? :)

I would think so. I don't read the news post as much different from the usual, "Welp, 80% of the world perished in horrific fashion, but that's over and done with now!" announcement that Max usually sends.

And there had better be another one. This is the one thing I come back to NS for every year!

I see now that your region's founder removed the quarantined tag after dropping the keycode. That's not supposed to be possible, and won't be next year.

Thanks for drawing my attention to that oversight!

I'm 99% sure it would. Even if it gets old and tiring sometimes, I do enjoy the fact that you don't have to opt-in to play, unlike N-Day.

I gotta say, I must commend you for the effort you put into that puppet stacking. It takes a lot of energy to name puppets accurately based off long gone medieval confederations and cartoony names. :p

Having worked with both Forest and Equilism on Z Day before, I can honestly say that neither approach the event with malicious intent- the Equilism members just usually can't be bothered to keep their puppet population alive during the rest of the year, and wake them up explicitly for the day.

I'd also very much like to be part of the proposed Forest/Equilism dream team. HMU in 360 days :p
