Are there factions in Z-Day?

If by factions, you mean sides of Z-Day, yes. You could join the Zombie Extermination group, who dedicate their time to destroying all zombies until they are dead. You could join the Zombie Curing Center, dedicated to curing them all to have them become human again. Or you could become zombies yourselves and infect everyone dead.

It's your choice.

You can still play Z-day even if the rest of your region ignores it, but the zombies leaking in from other nations will make the game harder.

Hermit region wouldn't make sense, as you can't use superweapons on your own nation.
