Survival Strategies!

My home region had deployed an effective maintenance strategy:

All active nations focus on ridding a single inactive nation at a time of zombies, preferably by curing.

This prevents saviors from being shut down for three minutes, as we focus on one, and keeps the nations of absent others from being completely overrun!


Please, share any of your suggestions for Cleansing a region!

We have found that a whiff of grapeshot does quite well.

What we did was to exterminate for the first hour and then implement this process. That way, we slammed down the zombie horde when it was still very small.

Basically what we're doing, some just opt to use force. But they do not use it on any active or usually active without permission.

Establish safe zones around every defensible location possible, regroup and slowly pull the military back into these safe zones to help enforce material law and aid any possible remnants of the local police forces. Afterwards have any aircraft capable of dropping a bomb completely level a 15 mile path of destruction around the safe zones while occasionally sending sending in a special forces or elite tactical unit to exterminate anything that's still so much as twitching within the ruins. After that slowly expand and exterminate the zombie hordes until the whole of our country is back in our control.

I am attempting to do just that. I'm the only nation in my region, and my total population is over 6.8 billion. I am researching a cure, and currently my living population is 5.5 billion, with 1.3 billion zombies. My region is password protected, so zombie nations can't get in and mess things up. I'm not sure if this strategy will work, but I'll keep at it and see how it goes.

YES! It's working! I now have 5.6 billion survivors and 1.2 billion zombies. Infection status in my region is at 1.3 Variable.

The most successful possible strategy would be massive isolation and self-quarantine. The most ideal response would be every nation in the world becoming a hermit in its own region with completely closed borders. Once quarantined, institute the "research cure" option, then just sit back and wait. Isolation prevents zombie hoard attacks, and research eventually produces a cure.

The strategy of defense coalitions is exactly the wrong approach, as it masses many nations with huge populations together in open regions. In this situation, zombie hoards make an easy meal of what is basically most of the world's population in a barrel labeled "BRAAAAAINNNNNNNS".

Containment of a disease is not like fighting a war. Massing the troops together in a single place is why, when this is over, better than 90% of the world will be dead. Again. The lack of warning the first time had little to nothing to do with it; the problem is the large and/or feeder regions that cannot be quarantined in any meaningful way.

So, 1) don't ever go into that dark room alone just because you heard a weird noise, and 2) basic epidemiology.

Now, back to the zombie slaughter

PS: By the way, the above is exactly how vaccines work, too. Vaccines basically institute a massive quarantine regime, by making the immuno-compromised (those, for many different possible reasons, for which the vaccine is ineffective) into tiny isolated islands in vast oceans of the immune. Their failure to understand how this works means that, when the zombie apocalypse does strike, your brain will probably be eaten by an anti-vaccination activist.

I've employed the same strategy; my infected population peaked at 18 million and is now down to 14 million, with a -28.1 "Relatively Safe" infection status.
