Is that really true? Because the Ottoman Empire didn't have a great time in the trenches of Gallipoli even though they won in the end (well, it depends who you ask... quite a lot of contemporary British politicians argue that the primary Allied aim was stopping the Ottomans from going elsewhere, which did happen).
