In 1945, the world was in shambles.
The Greater German Reich now rules from Calais to Atmolinsk, in the west Vichy France its servant, and to the east four Reichkommisariats determined to genocide the Slavic population to allow for German lebensraum.
Italy siphons oil from its Libyan colony, remaining prevalent on the world stage, though still rather dependent on Germany.
The UK, having been forced to sign a white peace after the failed landing at Normandy, now sees its colonies breaking off and its economy rapidly declining.
The USSR is no more, with its ex-territories west of the Urals now Reichkommisariats owned by Germany, and now a mere rump state ruling from Perm, it cannot stop many places, like the Idel-Ural, Kazan, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, and the Far East from seceding.
The USA failed to protect capitalist democracy in Europe- but it dropped four nuclear bombs on Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama and Kyoto. The Japanese surrendered, and now an American puppet state rules from Nagoya.
The Republic Of China got back its territory from the Japanese, and got back parts of the Far East after the collapse of the USSR. It won the civil war against the communists and is now the rising star of Asia, with a new generation of more idealistic leaders stepping up who actually intend to follow the Three Principles Of The People.
Such a world brought about a three-sided cold war, with the USA last defender of capitalist democracy as we know it, allying with Canada and the UK in the Atlantic Union against fascism, the Greater German Reich determined to keep what it has- and perhaps gain even more, and the Republic Of China the leader of the nations of Asia against the influence of Germany or the USA.
However, by the 1980s, it was evident the system of the GGR was simply not sustainable. Four fuhrers since 1935 had reigned and it seemed the fifth, a weak man, would throughly end German influence. Giving in again and again to the increased requests of sovereignity from the Reichkommisariats, this new fuhrer marked himself as weak and a dunce. The Slavic peoples in the RKs (or what remained of them) revolted, Vichy France also saw another French Revolution under the son of Charles De Gaulle, Philippe de Gaulle, and Germany itself broke into five pieces: a newly independent Czechoslovakia, Austria, and three different German rump states in Prussia, Saxony and Bavaria. The USA quickly took the chance to step in, asserting dominance, taking all the German nukes, and couping the three German states to form three capitalist democracies loyal to the US. Italy fell soon after due to the Libyan Revolution and the economic crisis in Italy that happened soon after.
Now, the USA seemed poised to also defeat China and become hegemons of the world.
However, as the 21st century came, America slowly started failing. Decadence and corruption took over its ranks, economical crises came round after round, and the stock market plummeted.
Finally, in 2005, the Second Great Depression happened as the stock market hit rock bottom. America ignored the experts- and now they were doomed. State after state seceded from the US, and soon America was no more, a mere alliance of republics on the East Coast.
China had won the Cold War.
However, by 2045, new powers had arisen from the power vacuum formed by such swift a collapse of world powers. In Europe, a neo-socialist Germany, declaring both capitalism and fascism to have done the German people over, declared socialism the way forward. Spain and the Union State (successor of the USSR after the USSR reunited the motherland) agreed, and the Fifth Internationale was proclaimed.
(The grandfather of the guy who sold bats to eat and caused the Covid virus was killed for hiding Communist remnants in his house during the 1950s. Thus, Covid never happened. Butterfly effects, amirite?)
In Asia, the old power of China is now threatened by the Union State to the north and a newly resurgent Japan to the east. Its staunch allies of India, Korea and Thailand stand by it, ready to ensure that Asia will be- and always be- the center of the world.
In the Americas, the entirety of the Latin Americas has rallied under the Federation Of The Americas- save Brazil, which has joined Canada, Britain and France in a resurgent Second Atlantic Union.
In Africa, the Islamic nations to the north, South Africa to the south, and the newly formed East African Federation to the east marks the continent out as a place that will be in war for a long time.
In Oceania, Australia and New Zealand discuss the prospects of a united Australasia.
