We extended official tolerance to Harran's Hellenic Pagan community in our backstory. If you're Hellenic, they'll probably claim to be your people's religious heads, fair warning.

Capital: Tehran
Territory:
Population: About 120-125 million (hard to decide).
Official Language(s): Farsi
Ethnic Breakdown: approx. 55% Iranian, 25% Arabic, 15% various Caucasian, 4% various Indian, 1% others
Religious Breakdown: Official figures do not exist, figures vary by estimation. Approx. 47% Muslim, 23% Zoroastrian from most studies, approx 16% Christian, 14% various other.
Type of Government: Semi-Constitutional Monarchy, Hybrid Regime.
Head of State: Emperor Hamid Mirza
Head of Government: Prime Minister Mohammad Tavasoli
Legislature (the name of your national legislature): Imperial Parliament
Legislative Houses (if your legislature is bicameral): Imperial Senate (appointed by the Emperor), Imperial Assembly (Democratically elected)
Party in Power: The Freedom Party of Iran
National Issues:
1. Lack of Industrialisation. Iran had only began its industrialisation in 1950, far, far later than its counterparts. It needs to quickly make progress; or else, lag behind. The economy is, however, rapidly expanding.
2. Internal instability. Democracy is questionable, civil rights are questionable, and many separatist movements have formed. This isn’t even counting the radical Islamist movements, or communist insurgents in some parts of the Eastern Empire.
3. The Emperor’s age. This may not seem like too much of an issue, but his eldest son is very ill, and his younger son is incredibly short-tempered. This, along with the fact that he has so far been the one uniting force, and the most popular public figure (with even many republicans wanting him to remain as head of state), leaves the Empire on a cliff edge.
4. The Balance of Power. Iran’s military is rather small. Well trained, but far too small. This has led to it having an eclectic combination of Capitalist and Communist military bases in it, for neither is willing to see Iran fall to the other, but when this Cold War ends; then what? The Iranian Nuclear Program is nearing completion, however…
Public Goals: Economic improvement, rapid industrialisation, help the people.
Private Goals: Economic domination, continue the current political system (some factions), reform the current political system (other factions), turn the losing powers and wartorn nations into vassals.
GDP (nominal): 497.4 billion USD
Currency: Rial
Economic System: Semi-free market economy
Major Exports: Oil, fruit, services, education, automotive parts and other easy to produce products.
Major Imports: High tech machinery, financial services, high tech weaponry.
Defense Budget (USD): 4.2 billion USD
Alliance(s): Un-Aligned faction.
Military Branches (names of official Armed Forces Branches):
Active Duty: 410,000
Reserve Duty: 0.9 million (of various different levels of training)
Total Manpower: 1.3 million
Land Force:
The Imperial Iranian Army is a small force, at only about 300000; for the nation’s size, but a well equipped and organised one. Using top of the line equipment from abroad, as well as newly advanced domestic arms, it remains a force to be reckoned with. However, recently, it has been suffering more and more devastating attacks from both far right and far left guerillas, with both the USA and USR denying responsibility.
Naval Force:
Unlike the Army, the Navy, from the Emperor’s interest in Naval and Aerial warfare, is incredibly large (comparatively), and very well equipped. With 6 aircraft carriers, of which 3 are newer super carriers, modified from several older carriers, originally bought “to be scrapped”, a sizeable cruiser and destroyer unit, a new large fleet of submarines, modified from designs requisitioned from the Americans in return for new favourable oil deals, as well as the IIS Mohammed, and the IIS Artemiz, Prophet class Battleships, built in the 1960s.
Air Force:
Once more, the air force is highly advanced, utilising top of the line American aircraft. Now, they are built by license in Iran. A large air fleet, another one of the Emperor’s passions, has allowed Iran to remain a capable power projector. But…the violent tone of his son has already begun to put off foreign weapons’ sales.
Other Military Information:
In recent years, Iran has executed a successful nuclear program, with assistance from both sides, the communists and capitalists, for the sake of preventing the other from gaining an ally.
History:
The power of Iran
The Seljuk Empire, which originated in Central Asia, managed to gain control over a vast swath of territory, including Iran. The Seljuk Empire's ambitions extend beyond its original borders. Under the leadership of Sultan Malik-Shah I, the empire experiences an extraordinary period of expansion and consolidates its control over Iran by defeating local rulers and establishing a strong centralised administration.
Sultan Malik-Shah I, known for his diplomatic acumen and military prowess, sets his sights on the fertile lands of Egypt. The Fatimid Caliphate, weakened by internal strife and facing external pressures, struggles to resist the Seljuk advances. In a series of well-coordinated military campaigns, the Seljuks successfully invade Egypt, swiftly bringing it under their rule. This conquest marks the beginning of a grand vision to unite the Muslim world under the Seljuk banner.
With Egypt under Seljuk control, the Sultan turns his attention to the African continent. The Seljuks launch expeditions into the neighboring regions, incorporating Sudan and Libya into their expanding empire. The local populations, in the face of a formidable military force, are compelled to submit to Seljuk rule. The Seljuks leverage their administrative prowess to ensure stability and consolidate their hold over the newly acquired territories.
Buoyed by their remarkable conquests in North Africa, the Seljuks set their sights on the Arabian Peninsula. The Arabian tribes, divided and engaged in endless internal conflicts, present an opportune moment for the Seljuks to intervene. With careful diplomacy and military maneuvers, Sultan Malik-Shah I successfully brings much of Saudi Arabia under Seljuk control. The pilgrimage routes to Mecca and Medina now fall under the supervision of the Seljuk Empire, further strengthening their religious and political influence.
Encouraged by their successes in Africa and Arabia, the Seljuks embark on further territorial expansion. Turning their gaze eastward, they conquer the vast regions of Iran, already under their control, and extend their dominion to encompass Oman, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. The Seljuk Empire, with its vast territorial expanse, becomes a dominant force in the Muslim world, uniting diverse cultures, languages, and peoples under its rule.
Within this expansive empire, Sultan Malik-Shah I invests in infrastructure, trade, and education. The Silk Road thrives, connecting the farthest reaches of the Seljuk Empire with the outside world, bringing wealth and knowledge to its inhabitants. Urban centers flourish, cultural exchange flourishes, and a vibrant cosmopolitan society emerges.
As the 11th century comes to a close, the Seljuk Empire stands as a formidable power, stretching from the heart of Asia to the shores of North Africa. Its capital, Isfahan, becomes a beacon of architectural marvels and intellectual pursuits. The empire's influence and cultural legacy transcend its borders, leaving an indelible mark on the lands it incorporates.
The 12th century witnessed the Seljuk Empire entering a phase of internal reforms and consolidation. Sultan Sanjar, who ascends to the throne in 1118, implements administrative reforms to streamline governance and ensure the equitable distribution of resources across the empire. The capital, Isfahan, thrives as a center of art, architecture, and intellectual pursuits, attracting scholars and artists from far and wide.
Despite the empire's territorial dominance, challenges arise from various quarters. The Crusaders, driven by religious zeal, embark on multiple expeditions to the Holy Land. Recognizing the threat, Sultan Sanjar initiates diplomatic negotiations with European powers to ensure the security of the Seljuk territories and protect the rights of Muslim pilgrims traveling to Jerusalem. This approach leads to a more peaceful coexistence between the Crusaders and the Seljuks, averting large-scale conflicts.
Meanwhile, the Mongol Empire, under the leadership of Genghis Khan, rises to prominence in the eastern steppes of Asia. In this alternative timeline, the Seljuks anticipate the Mongol threat and take precautionary measures to fortify their borders and forge alliances with neighboring kingdoms. These defensive efforts buy the Seljuks valuable time and mitigate the immediate impact of the Mongol invasions.
The 13th century marks a turning point in the Seljuk Empire's history. As the Mongol Empire expands westward, it eventually clashes with the Seljuks. The Mongol hordes, led by Genghis Khan's successors, sweep through Central Asia, overwhelming many of the Seljuk territories in their path. However, due to the Seljuks' earlier defensive preparations and alliances, their core territories remain relatively intact.
Recognizing the necessity of coexistence, the Seljuk rulers engage in diplomatic negotiations with the Mongol khans. Through skillful diplomacy and strategic alliances, they manage to secure semi-autonomous status for their realm within the Mongol Empire. This arrangement allows the Seljuks to preserve their cultural identity, administrative structures, and local governance while paying tribute to the Mongol overlords.
The Seljuk Empire, despite enduring Mongol dominance, experiences a cultural and intellectual renaissance during the 13th and 14th centuries. Scholars, philosophers, and artists thrive in this vibrant atmosphere, making significant contributions to various fields. The exchange of knowledge and ideas between different regions of the empire enriches the intellectual landscape, fostering scientific advancements, literary works, and artistic masterpieces.
While the Mongol dominance poses challenges, it also brings benefits to the Seljuk Empire. The integration of the Silk Road trade routes within the Mongol-controlled territories facilitates extensive commercial exchanges and economic growth. Isfahan, the empire's capital, becomes a bustling hub of commerce, attracting merchants from distant lands and facilitating cultural exchange.
In the 14th century, the Mongol Empire begins to fragment, leading to the emergence of regional successor states. The Seljuk Empire, seizing the opportunity, reasserts its independence and expands its influence once again. Under the leadership of Sultan Muhammad II, the Seljuks launch military campaigns to reclaim lost territories and assert their authority over the remaining Mongol-controlled regions.
The Seljuk Empire's military successes, combined with its cultural and economic vitality, solidify its position as a dominant regional power. The empire's borders stabilize, encompassing a vast and diverse territory that spans from Egypt to Pakistan. This prolonged era of stability and prosperity paves the way for advancements in art, architecture, science, and governance, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
Let the games…begin!
At the beginning of the 15th century, the Seljuk Empire faces both internal and external challenges. The empire experiences a transition in leadership as a new Sultan, Ahmad I, ascends to the throne. Sultan Ahmad I, known for his military prowess and administrative reforms, seeks to consolidate the empire's territories, strengthen its institutions, and foster stability and prosperity for his subjects.
Internally, the Seljuk Empire witnesses a period of cultural and intellectual flourishing. Patronage of the arts, literature, and sciences is encouraged, resulting in a vibrant cultural scene. Scholars, poets, and philosophers gather in renowned centers of learning, such as Isfahan and Cairo, producing notable works that enrich the intellectual legacy of the empire.
Externally, the Seljuk Empire faces ongoing challenges from neighbouring powers. The Byzantine Empire, emerging as a rising force in the region, seeks to expand its influence and territory. Tensions rise between the Seljuks and the Ottomans as border disputes and competing claims to certain regions escalate. Diplomatic negotiations and occasional military confrontations characterize the relationship between the two empires during this period.
In an effort to secure their borders and maintain stability, Sultan Ahmad I strengthens alliances with neighboring states. Treaties are forged with the Mamluk Sultanate of Egypt, safeguarding the shared interests of the two empires in the region. These alliances provide a sense of security and help preserve the territorial integrity of the Seljuk Empire.
Meanwhile, trade and commerce flourish within the Seljuk Empire. The Silk Road, extending through its territories, serves as a vital conduit for the exchange of goods, ideas, and cultures. Cities such as Isfahan and Cairo become major economic hubs, attracting merchants and traders from all corners of the known world. This thriving trade network fuels economic growth and contributes to the empire's prosperity.
In the latter half of the 15th century, the Seljuk Empire faces a significant external threat from the rising power of the Timurid Empire, centered in Central Asia. The Timurids, led by Timur, launch a series of military campaigns aimed at expanding their dominion. The Seljuks, aware of the impending danger, mobilize their forces and form alliances with neighboring kingdoms to resist the Timurid advance.
The ensuing conflicts between the Seljuk and Timurid Empires result in a protracted struggle for supremacy. Battles are fought across various regions, and alliances shift as different factions seek to protect their interests. The wars exert a heavy toll on both empires, leading to territorial gains and losses for each side.
The Century of Humiliation
The 16th century was known as the Century of Humiliation. In 1508, the Shah died, childless. The empire collapsed into warlordism, and the Timurids devoured the remnants of the empire. This was, until 1576, where after years of servitude to the Timurids, “The Great Shah” rose

Probably non-aligned; my nation personally hates the Communists but can be persuaded to let go of said hatred if it can lead the Non-Aligned Bloc.
