For final assurances I'm not going to arbitrarily pick which side coups Willy Brandt. I'm thinking a straw poll will determine the victor when the coup event pops up given the extremism of one of the factions involved. I do not want people thinking they don't have a say.

How did World War I go again?

I assume we've got a First World War, but I don't really see it mentioned in other people's apps. Is there still a Central Powers, and if France is socialist, I'm not going to dive in to even save the Belgians. We can still go and blockade the Germans, do a Jutland and take German colonies. Maybe sent forces against the Byzantines? I'm not sure if Byzantine would align itself with what the hell counts as the "Entente" in contrast to the Central Powers. If the Ottomans are in Hungary, do the Scotts do a landing at Zagreb?

The King of the Britons wields substantial power in the country. There are little checks and balances on the absolute power of the King, who also holds the largely ceremonial but significantly powerful role as “President of the Mainline LDS Church”.

Most legislation, in theory, can be proposed by the legislature, usually needing the King’s royal assent on a bill in order for it to become law. However, in reality, it is most of the time that the King proposes legislation or often unilaterally decides actions with the assistance of an increasingly powerful “Board of Directors”, who act as the nation’s cabinet, often with ties or as representatives to the country’s largest and most influential banking, military and industrial interests.

Legislation, therefore, is at the purview and scrutiny of both houses. The House of Clans can anoint as many differing amendments to bills proposed by the King or President of the Church. It is up to the King of the Britons who holds final say. The King can either Veto legislation or “Propose an Alternative”. Hoardship of the Isles - This is the common name given to the primary ground force of the Union, although when this is referred to, it generally means the ground forces of Scotland, but is used as a generic term for the Union’s land forces. The Hoardship’s general standing strength, at least on paper, is around 250,000 on the Mainland. The Hoardship is primarily tasked with the defense of the Homeland, although it can be deployed overseas to protect British Interests in her colonial holdings, which is usually only done by the Company Guard unilaterally without the approval of the Government.

Imperial Navy - Receives the lion’s share of the military funding. While the Imperial Navy is not the largest in the world, it still holds a notable number of warships, which the government argues is necessary for its still fledgling (if declining) colonial holdings throughout the globe.


Company Guard - tasked with the defense of major industrial facilities throughout the “global” empire, with rumored anti-terrorist activities within the Colonial holdings of the Empire. Are generally nothing more than highly paid mercenaries put into the service of some of the largest companies within the Union. They are widely hated by the remaining native peoples for their alleged war-crimes and supposed “humanitarian violations”. Numbers of personnel generally are estimated to be around 35,000 - 55,000 stationed all throughout the colonies of the Empire.

Colonial Militia - Mostly comprising “civilized” indigenous natives of the occupied territories. Although historically led by white Scottsmen, gradually, this has given way to a system based on merit, although ties to family clans (and white family clans) still retain great significance in political appointments. Numbers of the Militia generally depend on which Colonial holding, but according to the Company Registers as of 1980, the Militia stands as a combined force, on paper at 300,000 throughout the colonies of the Empire. General combat readiness in the event of immediate invasion is estimated to be around half of that number. The Militia also double as the local constables within Scotland and England, and also owe partial loyalty to familial ties rather than allegiance to the central government in Perth.

History:
Our story begins with the signature of the Treaty of Union in 1707. Instead of shoving aside Scottish interests, a surprise shift in England’s tone towards Scotland was certainly noticed by the Scottish delegates expected to sign. Instead of 45 MPs, Scotland would get near equality with English MPs, with England getting 251 and Scotland garnering 247 respectively. Queen Anne, previously the Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland, was crowned on December 2, 1708 as “Queen of the Scots, Britons and Welsh in eternity.”

This greatly increases the influence of Scotland, prompting several wary families to now run for and be elected to represent Scottish interests and Scottish culture. However, with every action, there is an equal and appropriate re-action. English hardliners, having been sidelined, aggressively call for the death of the restored Queen, enraged in her “sacrificing english-ness for a backwards people”. The English Unrest of 1708-1710 becomes a full-scale rebellion against the favorable treatment of Scotland. On one-side were the Moderates, backed and having intermarried within various Scottish clans in order to shore up support. One the other-side were the Radicals, who vowed to return “England for the English” and expel the Scottish to one of the penal colonies of the Empire, such as a plan to ship almost 40,000 Scotts to the inhospitable landscape of Australia.

By the end of 1710, the Moderate forces, with the help of a French landing off the Welsh coast, are victorious in their quelling of radical support. The resulting reign of terror and subsequent purges from all government circles see thousands of radicals be either defenstrated or burnt at the stake for witchcraft. Parliament, feared to have been a hotbed of Radical activity, is permanently prolonged from 1711 until the British Revolution eighty years later.

On May 2, 1713, Queen Anne dies from a prolonged illness, resulting in James Francis Edward Stuart being crowned as King of the Scots, Britons and Welsh James III (of England) and the VIII (of Scotland). This James rules from 1713 until his untimely death in 1760 from being impaled in the House of Parliament. His son Charles Edward Stuart would assume the throne within a month of his father’s death, being crowned as King Charles III and I (of Scotland).

Following the untimely death of King Charles in 1764 following a short reign, there was a power-struggle between Charle’s mistress Clementia Walkinshaw and Charle’s illegitimate daughter Charlotte Stuart. This Sparked the Briton War of Succession (also known as the Fourth English Civil War) from 1765 until 1770. In the end Clementia ended up victorious, exiling Charlotte to the Orkney Islands in northern Scotland. Her reign would be short-lived and prove to be unpopular with the general public, with rumors of the “Prostitute who ruled Britain” greatly damaging British prestige abroad on the international stage. Her erratic actions of dismissing cabinets throughout her reign certainly harmed any government stability and only proved to grow her lists of enemies. Gradually, the forces of Queen Charlotte proved too much for Clementia to overcome. Lists of enemies that eventually struck out, with Queen Clementia losing the Battle of Beachy Head in 1771 and fleeing abroad to the American continent instead, living out the rest of her days at the estate of a southern plantation owner in South Carolina until her death in 1802.

Now secure in her position, Queen Charlotte gravitated towards a small assembly of informal advisors, all of whom garnered considerable influence within the Royal Court.

Foreign Policy was the same: Ensure Britain dominance over the waves and prevent any one nation from challenging Britain on the waves or to cut off her colonial holdings. Following the smashing success of the Seven Year’s War, Britain forbade her colonial subjects in the Americas from expanding past the Appalachian mountain ranges, imposed large taxes upon them. Anger mounted from the perceived corruption and general carelessness imposed by the British Appointed governors of the Thirteen Colonies, resulting in increased tensions between the British establishment and disgruntled citizenry within the continent.

Such tensions resulted in the outbreak of the “First Anglo-War”, also known as the “American Revolution.” British and Scottish forces mishandled the conflict badly, losing thousands of troops. Due to the extreme difficulties in communication across the vast Atlantic Ocean, the initiative of British officers was placed on them within the field, without having to await instructions from distant (even for Scotland) Perth. This had mixed results, with aggressive british commanders racking up glorious victories against rebel continental forces, while suffering massed casualties that would take significant time in order to be replenished, let alone be organized in fleets that might cross the atlantic, get lost in a vicious storm or be forced back due to a French assault.
Following the surrender of General Cornwallis, the ailing Queen Charlotte instructed diplomats to negotiate a treaty with the “rebel territories”. America was born, and the Union of Scotts felt embittered at the loss of such a significant area. As if to distract the populace from the crushing defeat in the America’s, The Royal Government organized expeditions to explore the world instead. Such expeditions got the ball rolling on a gradual expansionist foreign policy of the Union of Scots throughout the early 19th century.

In spite of the government’s best efforts at providing breads and circuses to the masses, seedy and rowdy bars were the birthplace of ideas of liberty, equality and profit. Thanks in part to a dreadful harvest season in 1788, much of the still good grain was sold by a cabal of powerful merchants, instead of being gifted out to either small-time British merchants. This angered the middle and lower classes of Briton society, spearheaded by a small group of wealthy merchants who had some rank in Briton and Scottish society.

The continued proroguing of Parliament did no favors of the Crown in the eyes of the British populace, who had even less of a chance in order for their grievances to be penned, let alone listened too. Partially inspired by the American Revolution across the Atlantic, a group of radical republicans gathered up armaments for a full-scale revolution. This plot, known as the “Musketeer Conspiracy” was a dismal failure, but the Government’s harsh crackdown and execution of the conspirators only served to draw martyrs to the cause of liberty.

On August 1, 1789, it was rumored that there was gunpowder and prisoners being held within the tower of london. This prompted the Storming of the Tower and the execution of the Constable of the Tower, Charles Cornwallis. His head was then stuck upon a pike and paraded around downtown London, passing by Buckingham Palace. Queen Charlotte then had to narrowly avoid capture by revolutionaries, who met in Temple Square and proclaimed the “General Assembly” on August 15, 1789. It was of grave concern that Charlotte, who had fled to the port of Portsmouth, might escape. In response to this threat, a crowd of 4,000 furious britons and women gathered, complaining about the high prices of food and blocked the way to the docks. Her own personal guards refused to fire on their countrymen, with one anecdotal account by the Lord-Lieutenant of the Guard saying to her: “Your Majesty, Britons do not fire on fellow Britons!” Queen Charlotte, left with few options owing to all ships in the harbor refusing to sail away with her aboard, relented and agreed to the crowds' demands, returning to London by the night of the 17th of August.

Rumors of her treachery had spread like wildfire, consumed by outrageous rumors that she would have traveled to Europe, rallied support and would be back with a full-scale invasion force to march on London. This prompted the establishment of the League of Justice, headed by Maxwell Robertspire, a former dentist who was increasingly radicalized by the actions and suppression of the former “Musketeer Conspiracy”. In paying homage to his fore-fathers of the revolution, Robertspire declared the establishment of the British Republic on the steps of Parliament on 1 of October 1789. What followed for the next three years was the “Reign of Terror”. Anyone suspected of not being for the Government was condemned as a counter-revolutionary before being forcibly defenestrated. It was at this time that Eli Whitney unveiled a new invention, which was named the Whitney Razor. It is unknown definitively how many people were killed in the “Terror”, but estimates put it at around 20,000 in London itself, and another 30,000 in the Briton countryside. Queen Charlotte herself was executed via the Whitney Razor in a much publicized ceremony on December 22, 1789.

The 1793 Dalmatian Reaction is what finally put an end to Robertspire and his band of radical revolutionaries, with the purging of those responsible for the deaths of thousands. Robertspire’s supporters were also put to death, with another 15,000 to 25,000 purged and summarily brought to the Whitney Razor.

Following the execution of Robertspire, the Librarian Committee took power. This were lead by those that were responsible for the Dalmatian Reaction, seeking to take the nation into a much more moderate take on the “Revolution”. Librarian-at-Principle Arthur Welsely took power, assisted by a council of two other members. This power-sharing arrangement lead to bickering and gridlock and was eventually scrapped by 1795 in favor of having a Chief Librarian. It was also at this time that the capital was decided to move from London to the northern portion of the country (and within Scotland to boot) the small town of Perth in 1796.

Even this proved to be unable to mend the wounds of the nation. Ethnic violence egged on by the “Terror” only served to further alienate Scotts from the Britons. It was in this time that the only surviving son of the disgraced Queen Charlotte, Charles Maximillian, attempted to whip up support against the Librarian style government, arguing that stability under the monarchy was preferable to the “failed candle of democratic experimentation”. In 1798, supporters of Maximillian made their move, throwing open the front gates to Perth and were greeted by cheering crowds, more than welcome for a return to general stability.

This action sparked unrest and fierce Librarian resistance from the Librarian Welsley, who fled south and marshaled his forces within the south of the country and started what is known as The Fifth English Civil War (1798-1801). While Welsley managed to win smashing victories, the Pro-Monarchist forces were able to wage a guerrilla warfare movement within the Scottish highlands, fighting from a series of large castles owned by Galeic family members sympathetic to his cause. Eventually, Maximilian’s army of 23,000 met Welsley’s larger army of 30,000. Although Maximillian couldn’t afford the casualties suffered in the battle, he was able to force Welsley away from Scotland and turn the invasion force back.

In the following Spring of 1799, Maximilian was the one who went on the offensive, launching attacks against fortifications prepared by Welsley in advance. Although suffering more losses than Welsley in taking multiple forts within the Scottish highlands, Maximilian’s usage of siege artillery enabled him to technologically blast the stone mason walls to smithereens. After months of being besieged, Welsley’s diseased army sallied out and were promptly beaten back, with Arthur Welsey himself being forced to surrender what was left of his command following a bloody battle. With that, Maximilian’s reign was secure from pretenders and enemies of the people, and promptly declared “The Union Kingdom of Scots, Britons and Welsh” with himself being crowned “King of the Britons, King of the Scots and Governor of the Welsh Estates of the crown” on 3 August 1802.

The Reign of Maximillian saw the tightening of control over the Briton press, with the very broad implementation of “defamation of the monarch” laws which only served to stifle critics of the King. Maximilian also abolished the position of Chief Librarian and instead replaced it with Chief of the Scotts, Britons and Welsh.

Although regarded as a tyrant by liberals of his day, Maximilian had a keen eye for the arts and crafts, commissioning vast sculptures of both military and cultural importance for the Briton and Scottish people. The old Hadrian’s Wall between England and Scotland, built in Roman times, was restored to it’s ancient past, built up as both a way to draw tourists into the country and as a way to align himself with historians who found enjoyment in such matters. He also took the measures of Education seriously, proposing and declaring the “State Education Act of 1819”, which made school compulsory, although after an uproar by the increasingly powerful merchants and industrial agents, he was forced to water-down the reform bill.

However, in spite of his liberalizing reforms culturally, King Maximillian remained firmly backwards electorally and politically. He granted the rights of the main Scottish clans to elect their members of Parliament via a system of clan elders and “advisors of the pen” appointed by the King. This served to stymie some of the Scottish gains within the freshly re-established Parlement.

Such was the result of the 1820 Parlementary elections, which had 222 seats up, with 110 for England, 100 for Scotland and 12 reserved for the Welsh. In spite of the Mackenzie clan making large gains, English clans outweighed the gains made by the Mackenzie, with the pro-english Anglo-Family winning two thirds of the seats. This led to protests within Scotland, with many Scottish clans boycotting the results and instead arguing that Scotland needed her own parliament.

In 1821, Scotland held elections which were boycotted by the English minority within Scotland, resulting in pro-Scottish parties with ties to the Mackenzie and Sutherland clans winning large majorities. In 1823, prior to their meeting as a house, King Maximillian decided to move the capital from Perth to a town outside the Pennes Mountains called Settle in defiance of the Scottish. It looked like the country was on the verge of a civil war. At the last minute, Maximillian’s aides organized a mission to the Scottish, headed by former General Picton. It was agreed that any future legislation on Foreign Policy or Domestic Affairs would have to pass through the now established Scottish House of the Clans.

Following the ‘Compromise of Settle’, King of the Scots, Britons and Welsh Maximilian was allowed to move the capital back to Perth in 1823. The less populated city of Edinburgh was declared the seat of the Scottish Clans.

The Welsh, Scottish and English countryside were soon turned into industrial sites, rudimentary in their extraction from the earth in utilizing steam engines. It was also at this time that the first railroads within the country are laid down, with the start of the Scottish-Briton Railroad in the spring of 1829. That is not to say the resources are not poured in, however, and there is a small 9 mile dredge within Nicuraga prior to its abandonment.

King Maximillian’s carriage overturned in 1854 while on a visit to the Mackenzie clan family of Scotland. Dying of his wounds, the crown found itself in a bit of a crisis. As Maximillian died childless, the question of succession was on everyone’s lips. Wanting to avoid another bloody civil war, representatives of both Scottish and English clan families met in secret to decide who would wear the crown. At the end, it was discovered that a descendant of the House of Fitzjames, a branch of the Stuarts, was eligible. The reign of King Jacob I (1855-1881) saw one of the largest famines in the Indian subcontinent. General mis-use by Company politicians and large corruption only served to exacerbate the Great Indian Famine (1854-1858). An estimated 11 million Indians died of starvation. East Indian Company policy to seize the warehouses for immediate shipment to the lucrative markets of both Europe and Byzantium sent the Indian populace into a full-scale revolt, known as the Mutiny of Bombay. The Mutiny, while crushed and suppressed violently, did take the control of the Indian subcontinent away from the East Indian Trade Company and into the hands of King Jacob I, who ruled it as his personal kingdom.

Also under his reign was the subsequent scramble for Africa and the securing of a portion of the African subcontinent, although not nearly as much as was hoped for. Flags were planted, Military fortresses constructed, and troops were stationed to the increasingly far-flung corners of the Empire. It was also during this time that muckraking efforts by investigative journalists from the homeland arrived en mass in both Africa and in India. It was there that they discovered brutal atrocities being committed by local governors, with a web of corruption that seemed to go all the way to the then Guardian of the Silver Seal and Chief of the Scotts John Edmund Commerell (Mackenzie). A tentative snap election was called in 1883 following the loss of the “Rights of Family”, which saw Hugh Fortescue (Sutherland) win a plurality of seats in the House of Clans. In order to sort out succession, Jacob proposed a system where a select group of individuals would vote for the monarch. In order to keep Scotland in line, it was agreed that the Draoidh (or Wizard of Scotland) would get veto power over any nominee proposed by either England or Wales.

Upon the death of King Jacob in 1881, the ruling House of Berwick discreetly convened to select Chair of the Lipton Tea Company Thomas Johnstone Lipton as the next “King of the Britons, Scots and Welsh”. There remains controversy over his selection, as King Jacob had eligible children that were weaseled out by the Queen consort, who disliked her children and maintained a very chilly relationship with her in-laws. It was alleged that bribes were secured on the Board of Directors for the vote, and to prevent the Draoidh from issuing his veto, which would have sunk his nomination. After much back and forth between prominent members of the Mackenzie, Sutherland and Briton clans, Scotland relents to the installation of a Briton king in early 1882. Lipton takes his middle name as his regnal name, and is proclaimed King Johnstone at the Halls of Woods on 8 February 1882.

King Johnstone takes more of a keen interest in India, expanding out the Union specifically in order to better secure a path towards Indian cotton, spices and cloth. The Lipton Tea Company and numerous others are allocated sections of the Indian subcontinent that would be under their “management”, headed by “General-Managers” of various large cities and portions of India, such as Punjab. It was at this time that the first of what would be considered liberal reforms would be attempted. These included the ending of cattle-raiding by Scottish clans, which often devolved from stealing a few cattles for the honor of one’s home to any excuse to burn your neighbor’s house down just because he got that promotion instead of you. In short, this system of family honor often led to revenge-killings, mob murders (and lynchings) and violent acts that were lessened with the passage of the Regulars Act of 1888. This act organized the country into 1,189 different Shires, with Sheriffs responsible for each. Around two thirds were appointed directly by the monarch (or more broadly, the Board of Directors would vet individual candidates and the King would give his approval or veto), although many of those remaining one third were indirectly elected by Family Members of all Scottish Clans.

King Johnstone frequently fought with both the Board of Directors over Foreign Policy, who saw many of his more adventurous ideas rejected by the Draoidh, who held the aforementioned veto. The King spearheaded a massive naval rearmament program, sparked by the launch of the ISV (Imperial Scott's Vessel) Dreadnought. In response, the Germans hastily started the construction of a fleet, which prompted Bethlehem Steel and White Star Line to muscle their way onto the Board of Directors and demand an expansion of naval forces "on the basis of national pride and our own security from Hunnish threats". In a panic, this was quickly agreed to, and many prominent members of the board received very lucrative kickbacks on the construction contracts handed out by the Union Navy officials. Although hastily built, by the year 1914, The Navy was comprised of 28 Dreadnoughts, in contrast to the German's 18 ships of similar caliber and design.

At the Start of the Great War, the fleet of the Union was coaled up and set forth to blockade the North Sea, preventing German warships from passing through. On the land, the Briton Expeditionary Force was marshalled across the English Channel to the Netherlands, of whom were caught up in the worst of the fighting. For the next four long years, Britons, Saxons and Welsh all died in the muddy fields of Flanders. Gruesome casualties as traditional tactics met modern weaponry. Human waves met machine guns. The massed charge of the British Mounted met the sounds of death, silencing all but their flailing horses stuck on barbed wire. Briton's colonial holdings and East Indian Trading Company forces were marshalled throughout the Union. Elsewhere, in Africa, the former German colonies of Southwest Africa were gobbled up, save for some stubborn resistance in German Southeastern Africa that lasted until the spring of 1917. Massed colonial forces shot each other in lines reminiscent of wars of old Europe. Bolt Action Rifles sang out all across the Savannahs. In 1916, in order to better assist their Rus Allies, the Union Navy attempted to orchestrate a landing in Oldenberg. This first step nessciated naval supremacy, which both the Scottish and German fleets met near Jutland on May 1, 1916. Ill-trained Scottish and Briton commanders, hailing from prominent clans rather than any military background, aggressively send in their lighter battlecruisers against similar German vessels. When the whole of the German High Seas Fleet is on the horizon, the battlecruisers flee in an attempt to lure the Germans into the jaws of the Imperial Navy. This battle is marked by confusion among all sides, with numerous vessles being lost. By one in the morning on the 2nd of May, Admiral John Jellicoe orders a withdrawal, which Vice Admiral Hood reluctantly agrees to.

Now lacking Naval Supremacy, the planned Invasion of Oldenberg is canceled, and additional Scottish forces are then sent around to Egypt in order to prepare for a series of landings against the

I assume we've got a First World War, but I don't really see it mentioned in other people's apps. Is there still a Central Powers, and if France is socialist, I'm not going to dive in to even save the Belgians. We can still go and blockade the Germans, do a Jutland and take German colonies. Maybe sent forces against the Byzantines? I'm not sure if Byzantine would align itself with what the hell counts as the "Entente" in contrast to the Central Powers. If the Ottomans are in Hungary, do the Scotts do a landing at Zagreb?

Byzantium would have stayed Neutral in the Great War, then joined the Allies in the Second World War before leaving in disgust at the Morgenthau Plan and trying to undermine the latter as best as it could.

I went to see Berlin after being repeatedly denied a security transport there, and I was aided by a neutral journalist who showed me the site of the former Brandenburg gate. Berlin is shuttered and abandoned, where the hell did nearly 3 million people go? More importantly, why are there work crews disassembling the city?

Herbert Hoovers Memoir of a Genocide published in 1964

The setting on the television points to an elderly Herbert Hoover, and another American a reporter by the name of Walter Cronkite. "We're sitting here today International Food Security Chief Herbert Hoover a once prominent American statesman who fell out of grace following his scathing criticism of the American government's participation in what is now known today as the International Zone, and what would you like to tell the folks back home about this?".

Herbert Hoover: "If I could say one thing its that the media has obscured for many years the facts that this is a genocide".

Walter Cronkite: "Those are harsh words, but I wouldn't expect any kinder for one of the most vehement opponents on public record. You've appeared on multiple international networks condemning the International Zone, and some speculate that this recent publication brings conclusive proof to your allegations".

Herbert Hoover: "I've been effectively exiled from my home for telling the truth. I was born an American citizen, but my body will rest in Constantinople in exile to an ungrateful people. I have conclusive proof from sources inside the zone that this isn't just the erasure of a German statehood, but of the people. Recent census data as well as private correspondence from several leaks show that over 25 percent of the German population has died. I can't even begin to think of any conscionable reasoning for continuing the occupation at this point".

Walter Cronkite: "You're effectively accusing the allied powers of war crimes correct?".

Herbert Hoover: "In no uncertain terms yes...God forgive them for this...my entire lives work has been to ensure people stayed fed. The reports coming out of the zone...they're starving these people to death and that 'International Volunteer Program' is forced labor. I've even got aerial data supporting the fact several major cities are essentially abandoned. The International Zone is running on the support of its allies alone, and if there is an insurrection the Commissioner's forces will crumble.

Walter Cronkite: "I'm curious what would you propose its been nearly 19 years since the beginning of the occupation? We can't simply let Germany back to normal status".

Herbert Hoover: "Im suggesting if anyone listens to me over at that end of Europe a plan to decommission the zone and begin the transition to a normal respectable government. This of course will require trials for those involved in the abuses, it's painful to say this, but several people from multiple countries are guilty. There is a reason the Romans haven't had good relationships with their former allies. If you don't do this at a natural pace...the people will escape their prison eventually.

Walter Cronkite: "Well Mr. Hoover I found this quite fascinating, and I'd like to thank you, and the Roman government for this interview. The natural order will be to see how popular or unpopular you're book is, and if it can at the very least convince some hearts". Walter Cronkite went over to shake Hoover's hand leaning over to whisper something to him whatever it was made his face turn pale.

Herbert Hoover: "Thank...you Mr. Cronkite this has been a...lovely visit I need to rest now".

Morgenthau's Diary, Dated November 1966

It has been some time since my appointment as Chief Commissioner of the International Zone. At the moment the former German state is down to 10 percent Industrial capacity. This machine the "Prison state" as many of my compatriots call it runs smoothly. The society of the International Zone is divided between one another as loyal collaborators who seek the material comforts of the modern world, and gladly betray their uncooperative neighbors. Though some of them go much further, and adamantly defend their own imprisonment because I offer better conditions to them.

Eventually, within a few generations, the only ones living here will be fully loyal and addicted to material comforts as well as the international support staff. The cities will be rebuilt in a modern international fashion as the German tongue becomes replaced by a more necessary lingua franca. A people who work hand and foot to ensure that they will never war with another nation again. It was unfortunate to have to use Kaufman's methods, but sterilization limits the potential for future trouble. I suspect that my work will continue long after I am gone, and the maps will look quite different.

1967-1970: The Famine, and the Revolution

February 6th,1967: The Day the Black Eagle rose it started like any other day as people assembled for their work shifts in the hopes of a decent meal, and decent pay. Maybe they could finally afford a ticket out of the "prison" they were living in. Regardless Erich Mielke a lowly policeman who served as a bruiser to cover up his resistance activities set about his work, and without anyone, but the right people noticing slipped a key to the security battalion armory underneath a brick near a pile of rubber. While he set up screwing up orders near the radio station the false flag started as many of the security battalions responded to the strike that railroad workers were putting on near one of the key junctions. Morgenthau was absolutely furious I remember since I was the man's secretary perhaps the bastard saw something in me as a "loyalist", but he had to know his time was up.

Peter Beyer recounts the famine

It started in June and July 1967 I remember in one of the liberated agricultural zones the workers were desperately trying to harvest the Spring Barley, and it looked sickly as if something had gone wrong with it. My fears were confirmed when some of the workers made bread with it to supplement the disruption in rations. It didn't go well many vomited, and many died. After words, I started hearing Barley harvests failing across all of Germany, and as zones were liberated the stockpiles were tapped into and rationed in order to make them last. The situation got worse our rapeseed, rye, and wheat started to fail. Families that had gorged their first meal enchanted by freedom found themselves rushing to hospitals or in a coffin.

For all intents and purposes, universal crop failure was declared, but the war had to go on to liberate the rest of the "International Zone". At first things were reduced to 1,500 calories, and that lasted until the new year. This wasn't the end of it, as Morganthau's troops consolidated their desperation they turned to weapons of wrath more than tactics equipping their helicopters with a defoliant. The damage to our farmland and forests is incalculable, and the worst part is...they say we have hospital wards of deformed children apparently a side effect of it. Suffice to say we put an end to their air raids, and within the beginning of 1968 the formal resistance turned into resistance cells.

Erich Mielke recounts the famine (1968-1970).

I remember the day we caught Kaufman the madman who made the cruelty of "Allied Commission" all the more banal. Kaufman I am proud to say is still alive as the government wants to put him on trial. His evil is a special one he wrote a book back in 1941 openly advocating for genocide, but not the kind Hitler did. Instead, it would be sterilization a painless genocide. As if watching your entire country be sterilized knowing it was going to die in a century made things better. Morgenthau only partially implemented Kaufman's advice saving sterilization for those who wouldn't collaborate with forced labor exchanges with the allied countries. Our doctors speculate a good twenty percent of people living in our borders today are sterilized. So as a result family planning is one of the cornerstones of government, and abortion is viewed skeptically.

The famine in all senses of the word devastated this country before it got boots back on the ground and it is without a doubt a genocide in my mind on top of the millions who perished under the plan. I don't think Willy ever recovered after hearing about how the children who died didn't stay buried. Cannibalism is a touchy subject to bring up today, but at least one of our neighbors likely did it. As for me I ate shoe leather and glue off of the walls even dirt was better than that. The famine ended by 1970, but none of us have ever recovered and we're a paralyzed people something our neighbors directly responsible for should have to face one day.

1970-1980: The current stasis

Erich Mielke: I first propose we begin concrete border initiatives to ensure that the allied powers don't get the idea to launch an offensive. For the time being the country simply needs to be under lock and key as its proven that foreign elements are a dangerous mix to these early situations.

Willy Brandt: I will not hear anything about War, thats what got us into this mess did it not?

Peter Beyer: I suggest we focus on food first border security is important, but establishing trading networks to allow us to import vital necessities is key. Food is the first goal, and secondly, our industrial capacity is at ten percent... it's pathetic, and needs to be rebuilt.

Konrad Zuse: There is also the manner of efficiency. Morganthau had me working on a wondrous thing a way to artificially regulate the settlements via network. I never truly gave him the entire scope of my project though for he would have surely used it to benefit the allies.

Willy Brandt: You're talking about the Computerization Project?

Konrad Zuse: Yes, imagine a nation built off not only efficiency, but self-sufficiency with automatic handlers guiding us. My scientists speculate at most it will take a century for Germany to recover, and the following centuries to see a 1939 population. We cannot allow foreign enemies to abuse us again on this matter.

Helmut Schmidt: I believe there is also the matter of a Law of Return that needs to be considered. We need to start advertising for the welcoming back of German citizens of all stripes. Jewish citizens as well as mixed african citizens from the former colonies and other ethnic groups never got their property back or compensation. At the very least they qualify for rights here.

Willy Brandt: I agree, but with regards to foreign powers what if they demand restitution?

Egon Krenz: With what money? The labor camp ponzi scheme they were running here has left little room for alternatives. Germany was a profit margin, a debtors prison and if they try and take it well Mielke has a plan for that.

Willy Brandt: What plan exactly?

Erich Mielke: We're calling it Operation Wormwood, we can't win the war, but the land will be useless after words.

Willy Brandt: Dear God...you're talking about making the land uninhabitable aren't you?

Erich Mielke: Only in the face of an absolute war once certain perimeters have been breached. A centuries-long slash and burn it's not as if we don't have pollution problems to deal with from Morgenthau.

I wonder though how long their funding will continue if they can't pull off more serious destabilization. At the moment they are attacking factories, but ultimately it would be a useful distraction to a potential Allied invasion.

Willy Brandt: Would an invasion be popular amongst their populace? If they had any hope of invading they would have done it during the Revolution and crushed us all then.

Erich Mielke: Perhaps the hope is to weed us out of serious international competition and keep us weak until they can prepare a surprise invasion?

Egon Krenz: Do we have conclusive proof they are acting on official orders, and not just carrying out old orders in spirit? The collapse of the International Zone was a massive public relations disaster for the Allies.

Erich Mielke: Exactly! They are embarrassed and want to strike back reclaiming our lands to enact their punitive reparations.

Willy Brandt: In the meantime double the border security, and increase military patrols. We won't have the Allies as unwelcome guests back here for a long time.

Brothers and Sisters of the Revolution!

How Long will the state of affairs continue? I ask as the very revolution which promised to free us from the prison of the dictator Morgenthau has imprisoned us here only with the job of guards over former treacherous collaborators! We sit as one of the most isolated countries on the face of the planet afraid of boogeymen of a bygone era. Our people cry for change, to be more than fearful victims of the godless Allies and their servants. Can we truly say this is the peak of our civilization or does more await us?

Generally, defense budgets range from 2%ish in most democratic states burdened by other expenses(welfare, yay!) and unburdened by external threats. On the other end of the spectrum would be about 8%ish at most, a club featuring lovely actors such as Saudi Arabia. In general, 5% is a good realistic target.
