Welcome everybody! This is the IC for The World Aflame. If you haven't signed up but want to join, search for the OOC and read there (I'm unsure how to put the link up, so just search for it. Once I figure it out, there'll be a link.).

Associated Press Bulletin from Japan

December 1, 1936

Japan's military operations against the Soviet Union have ground to a halt as factions of the military have opposed the formation of the Yamamoto Shogunate. General Tōjō Hideki has disregarded orders and returned to Japan with a battalion, intending to arrest Yamamoto, dissolve the Kokkai, and proclaim himself Shogun. The Japanese navy has prevented any further transport of soldiers from the Korean Peninsula and Primorsky-Krai, and it is unclear if a majority of the army supports or opposes Tōjō's rebellion. Yamamoto has been appointed Shogun by the Kokkai, and has the firm support of the navy and the civilian population of Japan. It is unclear if this support will be sufficient to overcome Tōjō's military forces already landing in Tokyo.

While both Tōjō and Yamamoto have superb military reputations, they have often been opponents in the Imperial council, as Yamamoto has consistently opposed the militaristic expansionism championed by Tōjō. There are unconfirmed actions of war crimes committed by Tōjō in Korea, Manchuria, China, and the Soviet Far East.

70,000 French troops and 500 tanks have made a pitstop in Warsaw as they continue across Poland, the French government have made sure to prepare their Soldiers for the coming battle with the Soviets, With this war expected to be a hard, costly, and long one.

The 10,000 Back in Germany have also made slow progress Throughout the country, but had the fortune to see the sight of French military planes heading through Germany to Poland, Some French troops in Germany have also joined the Flame German Unions religion of sorts, but it has been limited to only a few soldiers.

People’s Republic of China

The flag of the Republic of China has been lowered in Nanking, and in its place rose the flag of the People's Republic of China.

Following the end of the coastal sieges and Japan turning its focus inward to determine who would lead the Shogunate, the Chinese Civil War began anew. The Second United Front collapsed as KMT and CCP forces once again began to clash with one another across China.

Many factors led to Mao Zedong and the CCP wrestling control of China away from Chiang Kai-shek and the Kuomintang. Propaganda, worsening morale, diminishing local support, the halting of the flow of supplies, and several other factors all led to the rise of the People's Republic of China.

The CCP's firm control over northern China assured a constant flow of supplies and assistance from the Soviet Union and Mongolia. Though nationalist forces wielded Soviet weaponry during the Japanese invasion, these items first passed through the hands of the communists.
With the resumption of the civil war, the flow of foreign support for the nationalists halted, as no other countries had stepped forward to help the nationalist Chinese.

The rural areas of China and large numbers of the disgruntled middle class were in full support of the CCP. The years leading up to the Japanese invasion as well as the months during the conflict chipped away at the base of support for the KMT. The nationalist leadership was considered corrupt and less capable in comparison to the CCP leadership.

The KMT's attempts to forcibly conscript thousands of Chinese to swell their fighting forces backfired on them, as it only worked to sour relations further between the nationalists and the people. Much of the KMT’s forces either surrendered to advancing communist divisions or defected outright. Much of the KMT's military and civilian leadership, as well as many members of the so-called Chinese upper classes, saw the writing on the wall and also defected or surrendered. Many cities, towns, and positions surrendered as soon as CCP divisions came within sight. The few battles that were fought only delayed an inevitable outcome.

Chiang Kai-shek and the forces he was able to muster began preparations to evacuate the mainland. Taiwan was an option, but since Tojo and Yamamoto were still clashing on the Japanese mainland, Kai-shek doubted he could get permission in time to make a safe crossing. Another option was heading south and entering French Indochina, where he could possibly rest and resupply for a potential counterattack into China. However, the communists would undoubtedly follow quickly behind them.

Before a decision could be made, several of Kai-Shek's officers, coming to the realization that departure from China meant never returning and that any attempt to recapture the mainland would undoubtedly be repelled by the CCP, decided to mutiny. Kai-Shek was captured and arrested as days of negotiations began between the remaining nationalists and the CCP.

Ultimately, what was left of the KMT’s armies dissolved and were allowed to return home. Kai-Shek and several nationalist hardliners were turned over to the CCP.

Mao, in a proclamation broadcast from the new capital of Beijing, declared the formation of the People's Republic of China. A great celebration of the end of the civil war followed.

Just weeks after the creation of the PRC, there were sightings of Soviet and Mongolian diplomats in Beijing. Rumors of coming announcements began to circulate.

The Finnish Army has begun their Invasion of The Soviet Union, with their enlarged military and mass produced weapons. As the Finnish Army Advanced, they captured major almost undefended points in Russia, and the Navy, with currently only a few ships, began shelling Leningrad, The Air Force has now been formerly organized, aiding the army and Navy.

Shanghai Pact (PRC, USSR, and MPR)

The governments of China, the Soviet Union, and Mongolia have announced in a joint statement the formation of the Shanghai Pact. The world's premier collective defense treaty of communist, socialist, and other like-minded nations. With aggressors just off their shores or bearing down on their borders, solidifying mutual support was paramount.

The pact was named after Shanghai, as this was the city where Chinese, Soviets, and even Mongolians fought side by side against a common threat. Here was where the cooperation between the three founding members of the Shanghai Pact was most visible, both domestically and internationally.

One of the first courses of action the Shanghai Pact committed to was to reinvigorate the global revolution and showcase how they were the ones defending against foreign aggression. Something that would be easy to do considering it was the Europeans and Americans that were encroaching on and assaulting SP territory and not the opposite.

The rise of the PRC in Asia sent a shockwave throughout the planet as, for the second time in history, a country comprising a massive territory and millions of citizens came under the sway of communism. Radio broadcasts and newspapers around the world showed the global population the rise of the People's Republic. Sounds and images that planted the seeds of revolution in the citizens of countless countries. Sounds and images that worked to validate the ideas of closeted communists and socialists across the world.

The SP believed it was important to control the narrative and be seen as the party first willing to offer and come to a peace. To the Europeans amassing in the west, the SP sent a message saying that a war on our continent would cause the deaths of thousands, if not millions, on both sides of the border. In the east, the SP sent a message to the Americans offering a ceasefire and offering time for what soldiers they had left in Siberia to evacuate the continent. Something that the SP hoped the Americans would agree to considering after weeks of intense fighting thousands had already died or been removed from the battlefield wounded.

Though the citizenry may be hoping for the best, the leadership is prepared for the worst. Much effort was made to revamp and increase the alliance's industrial and manufacturing capabilities. There was a large focus on manufacturing arms, ammunition, and vehicles. The militaries of the pact drilled, practiced, and trained in preparation for a full-scale invasion of their lands. New technologies were researched, especially those with military applications. Aircraft, anti-aircraft and tank research were some areas of particular focus.

Soviet Union (Shanghai Pact)

The day had finally come. The propaganda of enemies surrounding them was proven to be right. With Finnish troops entering the Soviet Union, the enemies of communism finally came for Mother Russia.

Supply lines were quickly established in Leningrad in order to help with the city’s defense. Thousands began to flee the city as Finnish forces began their attack. However, much of the population chose to stay within Leningrad to fight for their homes, their families, and their country. The propaganda told them that this was a war of annihilation. That invading power wished to obliterate their way of life and bring back the darkness of imperialism upon their lands. The people of Leningrad and the Soviet Union would not let this come to pass.

Local forces were mustered and began to converge on Leningrad to serve in the defense, while elsewhere a larger force assembled to hopefully soon reinforce the city more efficiently.

Many Soviet commanders and soldiers had fought in China against the Japanese or in Siberia against the Americans. Many lessons were learned in these engagements. Lessons the Soviets and Chinese would do well to remember. The Shanghai Pact would apply the knowledge they gained in the Far East campaigns to combat the forces coming for them in the West.

Seeing as the Finnish have made the first move, it was believed that the forces amassing in Central Europe would follow quickly behind them. Positions along the western border were reinforced, while the cities and towns along the way were told to prepare for coming sieges.

Beijing was alerted of the Finnish invasion by Moscow, prompting preparations for manpower to be sent west towards the front. The Chinese would repay the Soviets support during the Japanese invasion.

The Finnish Army and Air Force had taken many small towns and had actually changed course to Leningrad to conquer it and have a separate port city, The main army was sent off, while a detachment of snipers led by Simo Häyhä himself had been set up, these snipers did not use scopes and were told to assault Russian and patrols of their Allies, some snipers had Anti tank guns and Rocket launchers to aid in taking out tanks, The Navy has Reduced Leningrad to almost complete rubble, with the aid of the Air Force.
