2025. In the middle of a decade set to be nightmarish and a turning point in the history of humanity. Climate Change is an existential threat that must urgently be tackled in this decade, and humanity must learn to cope with the constantly growing population that does not look likely to slow down let alone stop growing anytime soon.

In Asia, the Chinese Dragon is emerging as the regional hegemon, pushing regional nations to choose sides between them and the West while internally the regime battles against resistance in Hong Kong and ethnic tension in the far West, while also pushing claims on Taiwan, stoking regional flames. In India, the nation is dealing with religious unrest and rapid economic growth and modernization as well as increasing tension along the border with Pakistan, particularly in the Kashmir Region.

In Europe, the old USSR has passed and a new Union has been born with the end of the Cold War. Yet many feel the tensions rising as Moscow and Washington clash over their worldview. Across the continent, groups and parties fight for influence and control, some with widely different visions for the future of their nation and Europe as a whole.

In the Middle East, tensions between Israel and Iran are at an all-time high. Forcing others to choose sides, leading to some interesting realignments along the geopolitical spectrum.

In Africa, ethnic and religious tensions pose a danger all over the continent. In the Congo, warlords fight over land and resources like coltan offering fortunes on the international market. In the Saraha and Sahel regions, remnants of ISIS and other organizations ravage the land and people. Ethiopia and Egypt are at each other's throats over the construction of the Grand Renaissance Dam by Ethiopia. Yet there are lights of hope that still sparkle.

In North America, Canada is dealing with ever-increasing political divides much like the US to the South. Inside the US tensions between Republicans and Democrats have never seemed worse. In Mexico, the Cartels fight hard against the central government in Mexico City their corruption touches most parts of the nation.

In Latin America, political unrest sweeps the continent. In Colombia, an unstable peace agreement official holds peace between the government and FARC.

How will the nations of the world tackle these issues? How will their pasts define their future, which nations will come out on top during this decade, and how will future generations remember this critical decade?

In this roleplay, you will take the helm of the nation of your choice. You have the ability to change the history of your nation from 1980 onwards within realism and with a few major event exceptions as well as anything states in the OP or other applications.

Rules:

    9. Note that unchangeable events are completely unchangeable, so no less deadly 9/11 or less damaging 2008 Recession.
    10. Posts can cover a span of up to three months. Each three month period starts following an IEC post except for the first period. The start date is January 20th, 2021.
    11. Players must make at least one post a week, meaning at least every seven days from each post. Extensions may be granted by the OP and Co-OPs on a case by case basis.
    12. Any changes to the irl military must be laid out in the military information section, otherwise the numbers etc will be assumed to be the same as irl.
    13. Not a rule, but do try to have fun.


IEC:

The IEC (International Entity Council) is comprised of the OP, Co-OPs, and anyone else accepted into it. The IEC is responsible for making the IEC post that includes multiple events and members can serve as an NPC nation in conferences so long as they do not have a direct interest in the negotiations.

It has been little more than three years since the streets of Tehran were filled with celebrations as the regime collapsed. Billboards and walls that once bore pictures of the Supreme Leader Khamenei now had advertisements for local businesses, comedy shows and upcoming movies, and one sign bearing the image of Mahsa Amini and the words, "Women, Life, Freedom." As the walls of the regime came down, so too did the walls of censorship that dictated Iranian life. The Morality Police, that despised arm of the mullahs whose actions had prompted the nationwide protests and strikes, had been disbanded almost immediately upon the ascension of the interim government. Now, men and women walked hand in hand through Tehran's many parks, some covered, many others uncovered.

For Prime Minister Sayyid Kharazi, he couldn't believe that just three years ago, he was part of a small, controlled opposition, a "reformist," wondering whether or not he would live to see even meager reforms to the system would be implemented. Now, he was the prime minister of a new, democratic republic, and under a Pahlavi president, no less. As much as he found this particular reflection both humorous and hopeful, he knew that his country's struggles did not end with the downfall of the regime. 60% of Iran's population was estimated to live below the poverty line, and while some sanctions had been lifted and the worst excesses of corruption within the country had been addressed, foreign sanctions that punished the prior regime for its nuclear program and the continued US hold on Iranian assets meant that foreign capital and much needed funds to invest back into the economy for job creation and wage growth were effectively out of reach. If his country - and this democratic government - were to survive and thrive, then the first priority of this government would be to have the sanctions regime lifted, and American held assets released back into Iranian possession.

President Reza Pahlavi certainly had his uses, even if his immense privilege frustrated Prime Minister Kharazi to no end. Having lived in the United States in the decades since his family's ouster, as well as maintaining many useful connections to the Iranian diaspora living within the US, he had been putting in the ground work ever since the re-normalization of relations to bring the US to side, to convince them to release those funds back to the Iranian government. But there were several sticking points, including questions about what the new government hoped to do with the nuclear program that they had inherited from the Islamic Republic. Kharazi and his government had gone to work to refocus the programs efforts solely on civilian applications, but it was the mere fact that there was still potential for the government to invest in a nuclear weapons program that kept the United States hesitant, even if the new government had provided countless assurances that it would remain in the JCPOA and not dedicate itself to nuclear proliferation.

Ret. Colonel Mark Bennett grinned ironically as he set down a headline from one of the Soviet headlines. Bennett was fluent in Russian. He had lived in Russia nearly 20 years, first heading to St. Petersburg for his undergrad in 1994. Back then people had thought he was crazy. Going to the Soviets for a degree? Perhaps he had been crazy but Bennett had been fascinated with the Russian culture and Soviet world for as long as he could remember. Thus, when the USSR had finally turned the corner, Bennett had quickly taken advantage of the new immigration laws between the two countries.

It wasn’t long before the United States government took interest in Bennett’s Russian language skills. He was commissioned an officer and assigned to intelligence where he worked from Germany and later Estonia. During the War in Afghanistan, his Russian had proven especially useful in dealing with the Afghan’s who had had over 10 years of Russian exposure. However, active combat operations didn’t really suit the now 40 year-old Lt. Colonel. Thus, two years after becoming a full-bird colonel, Bennett retired from the military. But not from service, of course. Bennett found an easy transition from military intelligence to civilian intelligence.

By this time, tensions between the United States and Russia were already beginning to heat up. Concerns that the world was heading for a second cold war between the two nuclear powers was growing and Bennett found himself in the heat of things in his station in Moscow, Russia attached to the US Embassy. He would remain here for nearly 15 more years in a variety of positions within the intelligence community and foreign service in Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as the occasional posting to places like Minsk and Kiev.

However, by now, Bennett was nearing 60 and was looking forward to his retirement home, situated perfectly in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington D.C. So Bennett packed his things and said goodbye to his second home of Moscow and returned to Washington. Bennett found himself a professorship at American University and a fellowship with a number of foreign policy think tanks. It wasn’t long before both the Republicans and Democrats came knocking, asking for him to step in as a national advisor candidate, or as an advisor to some up and coming politician. Bennett, however, was shrew enough to hold out putting his cards on the table long enough to finally get offered a position of meaning; National Security Advisor to the newly elected president, Gavin Newsom.

Newsom’s rise to the presidency hadn’t been a shocking one. In fact, it had been shocking at how close it had been. The sudden rise of the USSR in the Middle East, the aftereffects of COVID, and the feeling that the United States was, for the first time since the 60s, behind the Soviets, had caused major ripples through the political process. The Republicans had stormed to within an inch of power and only a few desperate recounts saved the presidency and the senate. It hadn’t been the welcome either Newsom or Bennett had expected.

Of course, Newsom wasn’t the only president newly elected. The new Soviet president had been inaugurated today. Another dashing success for the UUP and closing the door even further on any hope preventing a second cold war from breaking out. Bennett, however, had not been surprised. The UUP and their idealistic conservative pan-nationalist rhetoric was hard to beat. Especially when their economy was churning. What happened when it stopped churning was what interested Bennett the most.

For now, however, he could only chuckle softly to himself as he read through the speech of the Soviet president. Not that it was a terrible speech. But the Soviets were generally predictable and the UUP the most predictable of them all.

“Well?” A voice from across the table caused Bennett to look up. The man had been a close friend of Bennett’s for years. Retired Colonel Andreas Gomez. Gomez had also been a US Army intelligence officer and the two had served together while stationed in Germany during the early 2000s and for their combat deployments to Afghanistan. Gomez, however, had not left to join the civilian service to be stationed in Russia. He instead had gotten political much earlier. He had returned to become an advisor to then-Senator Meeks, then as a senior security advisor for the Meeks Presidential Campaign. From there, he was somewhat snubbed for the role of National Security Advisor and any other official role within the cabinet of Meeks as Gomez had thought would be his lot for winning. However, his compensation had been splendid enough; the ambassadorship to the United Nations. A role that Gomez would serve for nearly 3 years, right up until the next general election

However, the taste of politics had been too much for Gomez. He resigned his position as US ambassador and ran for political office, becoming the US Congressman from MD-2 in the 2020 election. He would be reelected again in 2022 before securing the 2024 Senate Democratic nomination and cruising to an easy election in the still-solidly safe Democratic state.

Now, the two men, both sitting near the top of political power, sat together like old times to discuss the latest news from Moscow.

“The new President certainly holds to the same standard,” Bennett said simply. Gomez nodded.

“Well, he’s UUP. That’s what I would expect. Any idea if the President is planning on addressing the Soviets directly?”

Bennett shrugged. “I don’t know. But I don’t usually work with the speech writers. They’re their own beast. I stick to my job when I’m asked to. But, I wouldn’t be surprised. The President is taking the role of American foreign policy seriously this time.”

“That’ll be a first,” Gomez said with a small chuckle.

“The big issue is if he’ll have the balls to square off against the Soviets,” Bennett continued. “The American public still isn’t ready for the Second Cold War to kick off just yet.”

“The Soviets have already made the first moves. What else do they need to do in order to make it clear they want the Cold War back on again?”

“Well, they can stop saying that they dream of working with the West, while in the same breath condemning it,” Bennett said, grinning. Gomez grinned back.

“The Soviets respect force. They always have. Give them a little push and they’ll push back. Maybe the Republicans are onto something. Maybe it's time to keep pushing until they can’t push back anymore. Like we did in the 80s.”

Bennett shook his head. “We don’t have the funds or the advantage to start playing that game just yet. We got caught with our pants down and now we’re behind in the second moon race, which isn’t a big deal, and behind in the Middle East. That’s a bigger concern.”

“Then I say we push.” Gomez said again. Bennett stared at him, almost pitingly.

“Do you? What for? The Soviets are building their system on a house of cards. Its only a matter of time and a little prodding to make it all collapse.”

“What are you talking about?”

“The Soviet system. Their alliances. Its incredibly fragile and held together by the necessity of goodwill. Look at Iran. They boxed themselves into a corner and are now looking at being on the losing end of their own race in the Middle East. the Soviets never had the smooth-talking skills in order to create mass appeal. And they still don’t.”

Gomez nodded slowly. “Then, what’s the president going to do?”

Bennett shrugged. “Not sure yet. But I know what I’m going to tell him.” He leans forward toward Gomez. “No more Nice Cop.”

I promise that I will task to heart what the American people have taught me over these past few months. I have gone from being governor of the most populous state in the Union, to being the Commander-in-Chief. It feels quite the leap, but I feel that I have been properly prepared these last few months by you: The American people.

By crossing this country three times over I met thousands of people. I listened and I heard your concerns and your issues. I felt the feeling of growing insecurity. The feeling that things were looking grimmer. To those who feel that way; I understand. I can feel that way sometimes as well.

When I see the actions of the USSR; eager to respark the cold war in the name of their neo-imperialist Empre of so-called democracy cannot and will not stand. The United States will not allow the attacks against the world order, the order that the United States and the free nations of the world, be destroyed by autocratic principles from a state that should have long disappeared with the other Empires like the Austrian or German or British.

I have heard your concerns regarding the deficit of the United States. The future of the American economy can look bleak by looking at only one or two numbers. However, as President, I promise to ensure that the United States of America directly tackles the budget. It is my pledge that the United States of America will end in a budget surplus by the end of my first term in office.

Through the Business America Platform, together we rebuild American industry. Together we can ensure that the wealthy pay their fair share and that the mega-multi-national corporations pay their fair share and don’t rip off the little guy.

Together, we will build a future that promotes entrepreneurship and innovation. The ideals that spurred the American Dream to begin with, but investing into small businesses and start-ups. Not mega corporations who move their headquarters overseas to avoid paying taxes.

Nor do we keep giving the 1% a break!

As we deal with the budget, we must also deal with the income inequality crisis that our nation faces. We have fixed our healthcare program to ensure everyone gets a fair shake.

We have worked hard to ensure that every child gets quality education in this country.

Now it is time to focus on every worker in this country earning their fair wage in this country. No longer will the top 1% make the most money and pay the least in taxes. No longer will polluting industries be able to get away with paying less taxes than clean industries.

Together we will make the American Dream for everyone. Not just the rich. Not just for white men. But for minorities. For African Americans who continue to face discrimination at the hands of our police. For women, who still face discrimination at the workplace at their places of education. For members of the LGBTQ+ Community. Who face degradation and erasure everyday.

Together we will work to make the future of America better, brighter, and bolder for our children. We will ensure that freedom means freedom for everyone, no matter your race, your religion, or your orientation. It means equality for everyone. Fair treatment under the law, fair represenation in the public, and equal compensation for equal work.

Together we will continue to build an American Dream that is truly for everyone. One that welcomes everyone.

For that, I promise to ensure that we continue to build on the success of my predecessor President Meeks in ensuring quality healthcare access for all Americans, quality education access for all Americans from Preschool through university.

I promise to continue to rebuild our Armed Forces and to ensure the safety of freedom and democracy and our way of life and society are not threatened by 21st century pan-nationalist Empires.

The United States is attempting to recreate the greatest endevour known to man. When President John F. Kennedy dared a nation to dream of making it to the moon, no one thought it was possible. Not before the Russians got their first. They had the headstart, after all.

But with determination and American will and ingenuity, the United States landed the first man on the moon before the decade was out. By the end of the next year, the United States will have returned and this time we intend to stay.

With partners around the world, the United States will build a base that will ensure permanent habitation at all times. Never before have the stars seemed closer. Never before has American ingenuity proven more incredible. What was once a task partaken only by governments, is now a race and a partnership with private companies.

I promise I will not make the mistake of my predecessors. Through our partnerships abroad and through our own NASA and Space Force, the United States will remain the world’s leader in space affairs. However, we cannot do this alone. Only together can we reach the stars.

My fellow Americans, we can only achieve this together. Through unity. Together we can make sure that the American Dream is accessible to all people. No matter your age, race, or sexual orientation. No matter if you started with a million dollars or you started with 20 bucks. The American Dream is for everyone. Prime Minister Netanyahu Calls on Newsom Administration for Support:

Jerusalem, January 21st - In remarks wishing Newsom well following his inauguration yesterday, Prime Minister Netanyahu called on Newsom's administration to support Israel and "pay close attention to the Middle East," expressing hope that the US would continue to facilitate normalization with Arab nations as well as peace within the region. Netanyahu called on Newsom to take a strong stance against terrorism, expressing hope to cooperate with the US against terror groups such as Hamas or Hezbollah.

Netanyahu cautioned the administration against falling for the "deception of terrorists," warning that the international community should remain precautious of Iran's continued nuclear program, and of Palestinian terror supporters "masquerading" as humanitarian organizations. Netanyahu further expressed hope that the administration would cool tensions in the region, including that with Syria and Iran.

Congratulating Newsom for his previous achievements, Netanyahu stated, "I am very happy to be able to work with President Newsom towards expanding cooperation and regional peace. President Newsom is a strong supporter of the Jewish people, and the Jewish people are strong supporters of President Newsom. It is my wish to extend an invitation from the Israeli people for President Newsom to visit Israel, so that our governments can cooperate further."




After Surpassing Legal Challenges, Coalition Pushes to Legalize Homesh West Bank Outpost:

Jerusalem, January 21st - Following years of efforts to legalize the Homesh outpost, an Israeli settlement in the West Bank contested by Palestinians who privately own the land, it appears the Netanyahu government has made a breakthrough in the effort since announcing their intentions in 2023. After the repeal of the Disengagement Law, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has helped to spearhead the effort to legalize the outpost, recently leveraging his position as a minister in the Ministry of Defense to overturn restrictions imposed by the IDF.

According to an IDF spokesperson, the military is currently reviewing the possibility of ending restrictions and opening the territory to civilians, and will be set to make a decision by February 10th.

The news has been met with support from settler groups and much of the right-wing coalition, which called for the military to quickly approve of the decision. Other groups have condemned the move as encroaching on Palestinian territory and increasing tensions. While it remains unclear if the settlement will be ultimately legalized, Smotrich released a statement earlier today calling for the outright annexation of the settlement, vowing to legalize outposts across the West Bank.




Defense Minister Gallant Warns of Increased Terror Attacks, Vows Strong Response:

Jerusalem, January 21st - Amid heightened tensions in the West Bank and with Gaza, Defense Minister Gallant has warned Israelis that terror attacks or rocket strikes could happen at any time, warning of the unpredictability of Hamas and PIJ terror forces. Asking Israelis to remain vigilant, Gallant stated that the IDF and Israel Police would be increasing security in the coming days, especially amid fears of Palestinian protests over Homesh.

Vowing to take a strong response against terrorism, Gallant warned that terror groups would "pay the ultimate price" for attacks against Israel. Calling on Syria and Iran to exert their influence to mitigate terrorism and crack down on illegal attacks, Gallant urged the international community to continue sanctions against terror groups and terror-backers. In what has been called by exerts a thinly veiled threat to Syria and Iran, Gallant warned that Israel would respond "directly against those who arm and equip terrorists."

Prime Minister Netanyahu sat with much of his cabinet as they held their regular meeting. As soon as Defense Minister Gallant and Public Security Minister Ben-Gvir finished their brief on the increasing West Bank violence, Foreign Minister Cohen began his brief. "Besides the regular issues with Iran, the Arabs, the EU, or even the Palestinians, there is an increasing issue that our government must face. Tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union are rising. We have done our best to stay out of the way of the dispute. We are American allies, but it is also in our interests to maintain good relations with the Soviets. The last thing we need is the Soviets supporting the Palestinians, the Arabs, or them interfering with our covert operations against Hezbollah in Syria. The Soviet's turn to positive relations has been a godsend. Possibly just as good as the collapse of the Islamic Republic. But at the same time, we must exercise caution. The US is in a Cold War mentality. For them, they see it as us or them. We do not want to risk alienating either side, so we must strike a balance."

Netanyahu nodded. "In a heartbeat, of course we will pick the United States. But if we can have good relations with the Soviets as well, why not? We may even be a useful mediator."

"Of course." replied Cohen. "A pressing concern is the Soviet President's visit. We have already extended an offer to President Newsom to visit. That is striking a balance, but the US may still not be pleased. I must recommend that we take steps to reassure the United States that we are firmly on their side of the table."

"And what is that?" asked Finance Minister Smotrich.

"It isn't clear yet. It is hard to say what the Americans really want, short of us abandoning our relations with the Soviets." said Cohen. "But we should be prepared to engage the Americans to figure out what they need in order to maintain our excellent relations that we currently enjoy."

"Very well then." said Netanyahu. "What of our Iran strategy? I believe that will be a topic of discussion with the Soviets later this week."

There was some mumbling around the room before Cohen spoke again. "It is the ministry's position that we pursue Soviet mediation, with Iran ultimately agreeing to recognize Israel, end all aide to terror organizations, cease missile production, and completely dismantle their nuclear weapon program."

"Shall we ask the Soviets for military assistance should the Iranians not come to terms with our nuclear demands?" inquired Gallant.

"For another time." replied Netanyahu. "As for now, I believe we have more pressing concerns with regard to this new Cold War scenario, and how tensions with the terror organizations are heating up."

A New Chapter for a New Union

President Kozytskyy sat looking at the television screen before him. Halfway around the world, the Americans were preparing to inaugurate their new President. Gavin Newsom, the former governor of California and a man that Kozytskyy had not yet had the chance to meet. But that is what the Federal Intelligence Service, the successor to the foreign intelligence duties of the communist KGB, was for.

They had prepared a document on President-Elect Newsom and his cabinet for Kozytskyy. Flipping through it, he looked up when he heard his own voice as the Soviet news station played his own inauguration speech highlights back from just ten days prior.

"My fellow Soviets. We stand here today, by the grace of Almighty God, as a people who are united and strong. A people that have overcome and survived the winds of change. Lord willing, we shall ever remain so. It will be the policy of this administration to ensure that the USSR remains strong abroad and united here at home.

We, Lord willing, will reach the moon not only this year but, in fact, we have plans to land there next month and show the world that, with God's help, we the Soviet people are not just strong, but we are capable of reaching for the stars. Space belongs to no one nation, and next month we plan to make that clear to all of our friends across the globe.

While these great advances are a blessing, we must ensure that we do our part in order to defend them and our motherland. In order to do this, we require a cutting-edge and highly capable military so that we can achieve peace through strength. In order to achieve this, we must ensure that we have a robust and vibrant economy. One that benefits all citizens of our Union and the wider world. For that to be achieved we must ensure the smooth functioning of our government at every level, to ensure that corruption and the vices of nepotism do not derail our reforms. Therefore, it shall be the policy of this administration that we will pursue a robust, effective, and cutting-edge military, we will pursue a vibrant, diverse, and sturdy economy, and we will pursue a government free of corruption, cronyism, and unfair treatment. Lord willing, we shall.

On the topic of defense, it is the unfortunate reality and view from our Union that some in the West have used NATO and its expansion as an attempt to surround and stifle the USSR and her people. While it is my sincere hope and desire that we can have peaceful cooperation, we will not allow others to approach the motherland with malice and evil intent against us, the Soviet people. We learned our lesson during the Great Patriotic War.

On the topic of that hope of cooperation, I want to now publicly and before you and the world, call on the incoming President of the United States to meet with me either here in Moscow or there in Washington after his inauguration. So that we, as men and leaders, and truly discuss the issues before us and, Lord willing, prevent another terrible and bitter cold war.

We will, however, remain firm in our need for national security and that goes beyond planes and guns. It is greatly unfortunate, but there appears to be coming from the West, and the United States in particular, a perversion of right and wrong. The eroding of social norms and the desire to call good evil and evil good. We here in the USSR will not allow such corruption to enter into our society. Lord willing, we will remain a beacon of truth and light even if others fall into darkness.

On this topic, we must remember our own past where we were not of the light, but of darkness. The old ways, under communism, were an affront to the Biblical way of life and governance. We are not perfect, nor will we be able to attain perfection until the Lord Jesus Christ returns, but we must strive forward and away from the horrors of things like pogroms, the Night of the Murdered Poets, the Doctor's Plot, the Holodomor, the murder and torture of innocents, and the many other atrocities committed under that evil regime of communism. We must strive to, lord willing, never return to such a state. It will be the policy of this administration to do everything we can to ensure that such acts of barbarism are never again committed in our Union.

It is my desire, my prayer, that we will see a Union that stands strong and proudly proclaims that we are Soviets! From every race, region, and background, we are one people. As one people, and in order to better connect our Union, I will propose a massive infrastructure investment program to the Supreme Soviet. To ensure that every reach of this Union is connected and accessible to all!

Thank you! Together, Lord willing, we shall enter into an even more prosperous and bright future as a Union. God bless you! God bless our leaders! May God bless the USSR!"


President Kozytskyy smiled as the clip of his speech ended. Thinking for a moment, he gathered himself before turning his attention to the American President's inaugural address. Time to see what this man wants. The President thought to himself.

As the American speech concluded, Kozytskyy wrapped his fingers against the desk before him. No mention of the offer to meet, no mention of a willingness to cooperate, nothing but animosity and propaganda. Holding his tongue, Kozytskyy took a deep breath before saying a silent prayer for guidance and peace. Opening his eyes, he pressed his intercom and requested a letter be sent directly to the new President Newsom.

After dictating the message, Kozytskyy stood and looked out his window, Lord willing, in just five days time, he would be standing in Jerusalem and embarking on his first foreign trip. One that was admittedly early, but one that was necessary in his mind. From Jerusalem to Tehran. God help us. Kozytskyy thought to himself.

The second reason for this letter is to confirm to you my desire and intention to seek a means for peaceful coexistence and, Lord willing, cooperation. The USSR is willing to work with you, but it must be as equals with equal respect. To further this endeavor, I am again inviting you to Moscow at your earliest convenience to meet, face-to-face. If, however, you would prefer me to come to you then I am more than willing to oblige and come to Washington provided we enjoy a meal at your legendary Five Guys restaurant. It had been a long and tiresome day for one Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani; Prime Minister of Iraq. Namely enough, thirteen years of peace in a country that had spent decades under the rule of a dictatorship didn't erase away the desires of some political individuals to voice their opinions more vocally than others. Luckily enough, instead of bullets flying as had happened a decade ago - only a few shoes had been thrown in the Council of Representatives. For some people, it was a humorous sight in watching their representatives act their 'belief' instead of double-speaking as was common in the West.

Namely enough, the policies that had been in vote were numerous. Some of them simplistic - such as increased funds for road infrastructure, tax cuts for Gazprom in exchange to fund a new refining factory. As well as how to divide the funds from the new government towards the local provinces - as after the overthrowing of Ba'athist Party, things in Iraq had 'devolved' in terms of some power. Mostly to reward the Kurds their desired autonomy, that they had fought over for years. As well as ensure the Sunni-majority wouldn't feel alienated after the 'majority' took charge.

Sometimes people got along well - and the King acted mostly as a figurehead and a symbol of 'nostalgia' and 'Hashemite glory'. Other times, the King needed to act to ensure sectarian conflict didn't progress to violence or worse at that. Luckily enough, the more hot topics would've been processed and finished by now. All in all - the last policy to come to a vote was something that had secured the future of Iraq for years now. In some sense - it was quite the 'irony' that a religious kingdom was seeking aid from an 'atheist superpower' that had once been quite the opposite of everything. Granted...life had a way of finding a way. As while the Soviet Union and Kingdom of Iraq weren't socially similar - they did have many common grievances and issues that both sides could support and fix. Namely enough, they had their own 'disagreements' with the United States and the West. Many enough remembered the Gulf War and the American-invasion of Afghanistan - a promise that the 'superpower' of the world could one day come knocking again as had happened three decades ago.

That and nobody much liked the Saudis either and their hyper-conservative view or desire to 'dominate' the Middle East - and with Iran itself 'falling' in the game, it didn't leave many options for Iraq beyond further cooperation with their 'ally of convenience'.

"Motion to a vote. Guardian Agreement II..." spoke Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani - as slowly enough the computer calculated the many votes. Some abstaining, some against and most in favor. In this case - the 'ruling coalition' composed of the Progress Party, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the non-Ba'athist Socialist Party of Workers would vote in favor of renewing the ten-year agreement between the Hashemite Kingdom of Iraq and the Union of Soviet Sovereign Republics. "Motion passed..."

It wouldn't take long - before Al Jazeera would inform the world of the momentous policy being renewed. As the Guardian Agreement II was a political-military alliance between the USSR and Iraq, one that ensured the leasing of several bases for both ground and air missions across the Middle East. Both to assist the Royal Army in keeping the peace, maintaining their sovereignty over their air space - as well as allowing the Soviets to expand their influence across the area. It was the agreement that ensured that there was a Soviet force operating out of Salum and Jalibah Air Base - as well as ensuring the continued operation of the Umm Qasr Port to the Soviet Navy and their 'Mission to Security in the Gulf Sea' operation.

23 killed in Livno skirmish as Bosnian Insurgency rages on

23 people were killed in an attempted attack on a Bosnian Nationalist stronghold in East Livno, as the city remains at the forefront of the conflict, with over 7 civilians killed during the attempted offensive. It is suggested via internal reports that Yugoslav troops attempted to force the Bosnian Nationalists into a retreat outside the city, although were unsuccessful. Over 100 troops on the 20th January began firing upon their positions, with a major supply stronghold in East Livno used as the main hub for remaining nationalists in Livno. Among those killed is being suggested that a 15-year old child solider who had been recruited by the Bosnian Nationalist Front (BNF), as-well as some external reports suspecting a senior member of the BNF was also killed during the skirmish.

Leader of the BNF, Zivko Litvinchuk, condemned the attack, and sighted it as a "terror attack on the people of Bosnia" and once more called for self-determination of the Bosniak People. Litvinchuk has led to the BNF since 2020 after the assassination of the former leader and forefather of the Bosnian National Front, Rubik Azleki, and is considered by the Yugoslavic government since the eruption of the insurgency to be a terrorist and the whole group to be a terror state. The group saw it's largest extent of territory during early 2019, when it controlled most major cities across Bosnia, before divisions between radical members of the group, often known Muslim Nationalists and Regional Nationalists, who advocate for self-determination on a national interest rather than a religious interest.

Minister of Internal Security, Miloš Vučević, who has been at the forefront of the conflict, stated the attack to be a success, and called once more on a vote within the Assembly of Yugoslavia for further deployment. In November, 2024, Vučević made his own decision on a troop surge, and saw the illegal deployment of over 750 men to Southern Bosnia, which was deemed by the Yugoslav Supreme Court to be an extent of his powers as a cabinet member. In a statement over the conflict, he said that Litvinchuk "must be defeated in the next months" and called for the biggest surge of troops since 2018, demanding over "2000 men to begin a major offensive upon the terror state of the Bosnian National Front.



Smirnov to delay defence budget increase if Democratic Union vote fails

In a short statement concerning the ongoing talks of increasing Yugoslavia's defence budget by 0.45%, which would reach the nation's highest level of spending since the early 90's, President Smirnov said that the increase of the budget would be delayed if the Democratic Union's vote on the increase, set to be available to all MPs part of the political party, and would need a majority of MP's to vote with the government's line in order for a vote to come to the National Assembly. He later stated that if the vote fails, he would implement the increase for the April Budget, but hoped that the DU would vote "for the betterment of our military".

Two factions in the Democratic Union remaining on opposing sides, with the liberal centrists, who are suggested to have around 30% of all DU MP's, and the more conservative branch of the party, simply known as the Conservative Democrats, who are suspected to have up to 40% of DU MP's. Those not part of these party are factions are either part of a smaller "Free-Market Group" - a small collective of right-wing economic MP's and the Centrist Group, more left-leaning members of the Democratic Union who do not belong in the main Liberal Centrists. With the vote to be held on the 27th January, many have suggested that if the vote fails to prove against DU MP's, the Farmer-Labour Party or the newly-formed and with only 3 seats, the Socialist Union of Yugoslavia, may vote in favour of a defence hike, although unlikely considering the history of defence budget votes over the past few years.



Yugoslavia to remain part of the EU for the foreseeable future, says Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister, Gordan Grlić-Radman, has reiterated the Yugoslav Government's stance on continued EU membership, with a gradual growth of support for a referendum within the National Party, with a suspected 18% of all NP MP's wanting a referendum, in which Grlić-Radman said in a short statement to the media outside the government housing that Yugoslavia will "remain in EU for the foreseeable future" and stated that a referendum on EU membership is a "non-issue at the moment". Since it's creation back in the mid-90's, the National Party has opposed EU membership, although in recent years has supported reforms than a ousting all-together from the European Union. He was later questioned on the President's stance during campaigning for the 2024 Parliamentary Elections, in which he supported a referendum for EU membership. The Foreign Minister simply replied that a referendum is a "mainstream view in our party and government" but that Yugoslavian Government's position is that a "referendum is not viable at this moment".

Support for a referendum have decreased gradually over the past decade, with a 2015 Poll suggesting that over 30% of responders would support a referendum, with 36% neutral and 23% opposing a referendum all-together. Come to a recent 2025 Poll on a referendum, and only 26% of responders supported a referendum, with 38% neutral and 27% against a referendum. Many have commented that the economic benefits out-way what some National Party Eurosceptics call the "road to a political union". While Yugoslavia remains part of the EU, it still uses it's own currency after a vote in 2011 to gain the Euro, however over 74% of voters decided to keep with the Yugoslavian Dinar (YD) since then.

It was a cold evening in the capital of Yugoslavia, Belgrade, the sheets of ice packed upon the roads, with only a few cars driving around the city at that time. The streets were packed with small-town bars, cafes and nightclubs, lines of hundreds awaiting entry into the large warehouses, which had been spawned up to become high-end clubs in the richest city in the country. Compare it to most of the country, Belgrade was considered a liberal melting pot of multiculturism, with over 10 different cultures mixed together in the city of dreams. It was also the Headquarters of the nation's largest commercial bank, AIK Banka and was the financial cluster of Yugoslavia. To the centre of the city was known as the 3 Monuments - which saw the celebration and occasional protest of the 3 key figures in Yugoslavia; Tito, King Peter and Svetleachni, the founder of Yugoslavian Democracy, all ranging at around 15ft high. Around 4 miles from the monuments was the Presidential Office, a grand-standing, mansion-like facility on the tips of the capital, surrounded by other government buildings such as the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Internal Security.

Inside the Cabinet Office, a large room mostly filled with a long wooden table with over 20 small glasses of water placed upon a mat. All but the President and the Deputy President were in the room, enacting in small talk over current issues of the day, flipping and flicking through various notes of the day. Soon enough, the door swing open and in come Smirnov and Patrik, the two most powerful men in Yugoslavia, or at least to the people. Patrik sat on the eastern side of the room beside the Financial Minister and Press Secretary, with Smirnov sitting between his Foreign Minister and Security Minister. The discussion of the day was the ongoing Bosnian Insurgency, which was not only the biggest issue in Yugoslavia since the 2008 Financial Crises, but the most dividing. Turning page after page of mostly middle-men policy nonsense, Smirnov was to speak first, silence commanding the room now.

"Good Evening, Ministers. I wanted to have this emergency session on one task, one moment. As you all know, the ongoing insurgency in Bosnia has seen 2 Presidents forced into election defeats, has left our economy stagnating by the minute and since 2018, thousands killed and hundreds of thousands displaced. I wish to put an end to what every administration since 2018 has failed to do, solve this conflict and destroy the Bosnian National Front. I have discussed this only with my advisors, but I will be signing an emergency decree on the 24th January to send 3,500 men for the largest offensive since the war began, with added support of another 2,000 reserved for further surges. With this, we will be granting over 750 Million Dinars (€575 Million) to the effort. The full measures to be implemented when signed are on Page 4".

A few gasps came, a little shocked by this. As they began reading through the full report on the new troop surge, Smirnov turned to his security minister, one of the only men he had told the full implementation process to.

"You sure this will go down with the Democratic Union?" Asked the President, unsure if even his Deputy President, the leader of the DU, would accept this.

"Does it matter? It's an emergency decree, you don't need executive support or parliamentary support" Responded the Minister, laying back on his chair slightly as he awaited the mountain of replies and questions from the readers.

"He could try and force us to water it down with troops, supplies etc, he a big hippie anti-war guy.." Spoke the President, giving a quick glare to his deputy before turning back to his minister.

"It's fine, Mr President. Let's just move onto some of the tax cuts then, shall we?" Replied the minister, turning back from Smirnov as he now stood up, some of the cabinet officials looking to what he was to say.

"Let's move on to our economic reforms, more specifically our tax cuts set on the April Budget. Our Financial Minister will be talking about that.." Spoke the Minister, quickly diverting the attention to the finance operator, as the talks of fighting and insurgency in Bosnia had been quickly defused.

15-20 different media companies had gathered gradually into the large and relatively warm conference room, awaiting the President and various other figures which were meant to be at this press conference, called by Smirnov just a few days before. Expectations were mixed; some suggesting a big announcement on the economy, others thinking it was merely an act to increase media attention on other affairs than the so-far unsuccessful insurgency in Bosnia. Soon enough, silence ran strong across the room, as the small door opened, revelling the President, his press officer and his Minister of Defence and Internal Security, both present and key to the effort.

The President was in the middle, sipping on some water, with the Emergency Decree 2025 01 in bold, capital letters in front of him, with only one copy in front of the President.

"I come here to announce an emergency decree to deploy over 4,500 men into the ongoing insurgency in Bosnia, with over 2,000 men prepared as reservists at will. We will also be implementing over 750 Million Dinar's of further funding for the effort to rid Bosnia of it's hyper-nationalist headbangers once and for all. We will end this horrid war once and for all, and by the help of our great military, we will do so, and I make that a promise. Not only will we see the biggest surge of troops since the war began, but I will personally be making a visit to a recently liberated town within Bosnia in the next few week, and may we finally rid our nation of these nationalists". He took a short pause, awaiting the onslaught of questions from the various media outlets.

Looking down to it, he picked the pen and signed the decree, showing it to the media companies as the snapping of pictures came at rapid fire, not an emotion coming from the President, just giving a basic glare down the table to his Deputy, who looked dejected, before looking back out to crowd.

XXIII Congress of the Romanian Communist Party


''Dear comrades!

My deepest thanks and most cordial greetings to all of the participants in this congress of our party. This congress, the most important of our country, is once again, held in difficult circumstances. Three decades ago, my father, the late President, was talking in front of the delegates, warning them about the danger, warning them about the cracks which had appeared in the system of socialism, cracks which the leaders of the other European socialist states had ignored for far too long. But even as the other socialist states in Europe collapsed, Romania has kept the torch of socialism high, and the progress towards achieving communism constant.

We begin this Congress with tensions among the nations of the world higher than they've ever been. Romania salutes the intention and proposal of the Soviet President to meet with the President of the United States, as we continue to firmly believe that the world must intensify its efforts to solve all issues through negotiations. We continue to support nuclear disarmament, détente and collaboration among the nations of the world no matter their political allegiance. And we ask the President of the Union of Soviet Sovereign Republics, and the leaders of the European Union, to come together and announce a meeting for security and cooperation in Europe, built upon the concepts that all states are equal in rights, that their sovereignty must always be respected, that their internal affairs belong to them only, and that force and the threatening other nations with force should not be part of international politics.

And we believe that such a meeting, should, among others, work with Yugoslavia to find a reliable and long-term solution to its ethnic problems. Ever since it has abandoned socialism, Yugoslavia's capitalist regime has been torn apart by ethnic strife. The Socialist Republic of Romania is profoundly worried about the violence happening so close to its borders. We urge the leaders of Yugoslavia not to escalate the conflict militarily, as that can only lead to more deaths and to more violence. And without any desire to intervene in Yugoslavia's internal affairs, or to affect their sovereignty, we believe that negotiations with the Bosnian rebels is the only path forward towards peace. If the Yugoslav Government were to request it, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Romania would be willing to help in any way it can.

We salute the continued alliance between the USSR and Iraq, and the stability it brings to the Middle East in the face of American imperialism and aggression, and we wish to assure the Kingdom of Iraq that despite our political differences, Romania will continue to support the people of Iraq in their independence and development.

But foreign affairs must not draw our attention away from the issues of our country. In the recent plenary session of the Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party, we have analyzed the recent issues and discontent in the country. I must say before anything else, that we are committed to solving any issues that our country faces through the complete unity of our people, the working class, the peasants, the intellectuals, and all others, by continuing our country's socialist development, by never stopping the strengthening of our country's independence and sovereignty, by continuing to develop its economy, by continuing to focus on the people's material and spiritual welfare. We must not and we will not repeat the mistakes of other European socialist countries. In the past three decades we have showed, time and time again, that as long as we remain committed to the socialist principles of ethics and equity, as long as we continue to maintain a close connection with the working class and the popular masses, without creating a rift as there was in other socialist regimes, we can guarantee the continued development and survival of our country. The Romanian Communist Party continues to remain committed to the development and extension of socialist democracy, with the large participation of the masses, but without abandoning the leadership role that the Communist Party and the working class should have in society. This was the fatal mistake of the Soviet state and of the other European socialist states. The construction of socialism can not be done without the support of the working class and of the people, but other states have forgotten that anticommunist elements, reactionary circles and hostile enemies from abroad will use ever single mistake of ours to fight against socialism. Socialist democracy can not survive without maintaining a clear and strong vigilance against anticommunist elements. We will continue to expand and develop the democracy of our country, attracting all of the social categories, and involving all people of Romania in the leadership of socialist development, but without giving in to the blackmail of reactionary elements both from inside and from the outside. We will use all the means at our disposal, including the instruments of power of the working class and of the socialist state, the army, the security, and the militia, to ensure the continued fight against counterrevolutionary forces. And we will continue to overcome any crisis by devising clear programs to be adopted by the working class and the broad masses. It is in the interest of the Romanian people and of the Romanian working class, of Romania's role in the world and of the fight for socialism and national independence that all those who act against the interests of the Polish people will be held responsible for their actions and punished accordingly by the organs of the people's power.

One of the measures that will be announced in this Congress is that the Romanian Communist Party will act with full force against these so called independent trade unions. They exist only to break apart the unity of the working class, and to move the proletarians away from the firm revolutionary positions of socialism. We will not let counterrevolutionary elements threaten the unity of the working class and the leading role of the party. And the leading role of our party is why we are meeting here today, in the 23rd Congress. While we must start with all that has been positive in the development of socialism ever since the last congress, I firmly believe that this meeting should also be focused on criticism and self-criticism so that we can continue to improve our party and our policies, in the spirit of communist responsibility and discipline, and with the union of all the party's forces and cadres.

We as such salute the other communist countries of the world, and we wish to strengthen the collaboration between our parties and countries, to continue to maintain and enhance the prestige of socialism in the world."

As Washington and Moscow swear in new leaders, will Theresa May hold on in No 10?

LONDON, JANUARY - In Washington, former California governor and Democrat Gavin Newsom is expected to take office on the 20th of January. His Soviet counterpart Maksym Kozytskyy was sworn in just after New Years'. In Britain, this new year could prove to be a pivotal year for our own political leadership.

Prime Minister Theresa May has been in office since she ascended to the position in 2021, after David Cameron's resignation. A renowned centrist and "middle ground Conservative", May took the premiership with skepticism from moderate Cameronites and distrust from the committed conservatives who helped thrust her into No. 10. Now, the Prime Minister has steered Britain through economic crisis, through the worst parts of the cost of living dilemma, and has continued the strengthening of defense commitments that Prime Minister Cameron initiated during his tenure.

Her premiership, however, has had its own fair share of squabbles. Cameronites criticize her 'aggressive' foreign policy on 'enemies of the state' and consider her significantly more right-wing than Cameron, while committed conservatives criticize her dovish positions on immigration, healthcare, and her suspiciously centrist positions on the economy and on taxes. From all sides, the Prime Minister faces criticism and consternation.

And now, she is expected to head into a general election in May. Calls for her to resign the party leadership to allow a new leader - perhaps Rishi Sunak, a moderate with Cameronite tendencies, or Penny Mordaunt or Priti Patel, of the committed conservative wing of the Tory party. More likely than not, however, the hawkish British head of government is going to hold on to power; her approval ratings are relatively stable, the economy is on the rebound, and her foreign policy of critiquing Eastern states while bolstering the US partnership to the consternation of some Tories has been domestically popular. Cameronites question her Eurosceptic tendencies, but she affirms her support for remaining in the European Union.

General polling suggests that the May general is going to be significantly more competitive than the 2020 election, which David Cameron won by a substantial margin. Current polling puts Conservatives at 38%, while Labour sits at 34%, and the Liberal Democrats at 12%. Communities and Local Government Secretary Sunak: Zoning reform in sight

LONDON, JANUARY - Rishi Sunak, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, has indicated to the press that 'serious' zoning reform could now be in sight, after months of negotiations between the government of Theresa May and Conservative backbenchers who belong to the Cameronite faction. Several Labour and Lib Dem MPs have also reportedly been involved in the negotiations at some stage or another. Sunak, a rising political star next to Chancellor George Osborne, has played a key role in subduing the major effects of the cost of living crisis. Through programs to cut rent for millions of Britons initiated from 2022 onwards, Sunak has proven to be one of the more stable hands of the administration.

In an interview with ITV, the Secretary stated that he would be 'firmly supportive' of efforts to reform zoning to allow for 'better, more streamlined planning' that would allow homeowners easier access to services that would have otherwise been pushed away by zoning requirements. He has, however, rebuffed Labour proposals to develop and invest in public housing programs in the UK, and to levy taxes against big businesses and fossil fuels, despite continuing economic uncertainty. Sunak is going to face Labourite MPs and the opposition alongside the Prime Minister during the first PMQs of the year later this week.

Zoning reform intended to push a 'sensible, common-sense' form of mixed-use zoning has been a potential agenda item for the Conservatives heading into the 2025 election period, but the committed conservatives faction are representing dissatisfaction from homeowners, who argue that the reforms were 'overly leftist and anti-homeowner'. Nonetheless, Sunak has said that the May government was 'working firmly' to 'build an economy and a housing market for all Britons'.

President Li Xianglin Announces Decision To Eliminate Chinese Communism
BEIJING - Today, President Li Xianglin (CCP) has made an announcement to the people of China. This came after she implemented a series of reforms aimed at eliminating China's communist past and moving it towards democracy. Her administration have so far removed Maoist-era statues and paintings, ordered an end to systemic discrimination against both ethnic and religious minorities, released political dissidents from prison, imposed strict regulations on big companies, created better working conditions for Chinese workers, supported green politics, cracked down on corruption and eased China's censorship laws. Right now, President Li has announced plans to both rename the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to the Chinese Socialist Party (SHD) and reconcile with China's neighbours, especially Japan and Taiwan. Her administration has managed to both ease the number of deaths caused by COVID-19 in China and reverse many of her uncle's controversial policies.

Many people in China were supportive of her reforms. One such notable supporter is Xu Zhangrun, a dissident jurist who was briefly detained back in 2020 for criticizing President Li's uncle in regards to the mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic in China. Wang Yang (CCP), who had chaired the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) from 2018 to 2023, was very supportive of President Li's policies and had hoped that China would gradually liberalize within a few years. Meanwhile, Qin Hui, a well-known historian and university professor, commended President Li's economic reforms, which were focused on protecting labour rights and creating an efficient welfare state in China.

However, not so many people in China were fond of President Li's reforms. Those who are supportive of her late uncle and predecessor, Li Jinping, have accused her of allowing so-called "Western degeneracy" to flourish in China and making it impossible for China to become a global superpower. Meanwhile, the Chinese New Left, who are rather supportive of Maoism, have been demanding that China returns to its communist roots. Last but not least, an extremely nationalist clique within the CCP is claiming that President Li is a hanjian, a term referring to someone who is a traitor to China.

We shall all see if President Li can accomplish her goals.


Chen Quanguo To Face Trial Over Human Rights Abuses
XINJIANG - Chen Quanguo (CCP), who had served as the CCP Commitee Secretary of both Tibet and Xinjiang, is now facing trial over serious human rights abuses that he helped oversee in Xinjiang from 2017 to 2022. The human rights abuses were related to the management of internment camps in Xinjiang and the subsequent mistreatment of the Uyghurs and other Muslim groups. Ever since Li Xianglin (CCP) became the President of China in 2022, the abuses in Xinjiang ceased as she placed Chen Quanguo and his associates under arrest. His trial will be overseen by the newly-formed Xinjiang Tribunal in Ürümqi. While the announcement has been met with praise from both Uyghurs and the Chinese democracy movement, it has been widely condemned by CCP hardliners, who have described the trial as an "attack on Chinese pride".

During the writing of this article, the current Li-Chen Administration (led by President Li Xianglin and Premier Chen Junfei) have fully dismantled all internment camps in Xinjiang.

Military Police Dismissed Protesters

On December 28, 2024, the Indonesian students began protesting against the Indonesian government. The protest was caused by the legalization of conscription laws in Indonesia. The conscription itself was legalized considering that China has not pulled its navy away from the South China Sea. Around 800 students rallied in Jakarta, claiming that "conscription will lead Indonesia to its downfall". The Indonesian government tried to remind the protesters about the Indonesian defense law, specifically the 2002 UU No. 3, which stated that "every citizen of Indonesia is allowed and is obligated to participate in national defense purposes", which means that if needed, every Indonesian citizen is obligated to participate in national defense purposes. The protesters claimed that in the future, conscription laws would only disturb the country's political stability, causing the military to intervene in politics, and more. They have also speculated that Indonesian youths should have focused on chasing their dream instead of participating on routine military exercises and that China will never want to attack the South China Sea if the Indonesian government wanted to find a diplomatic way to solve the problem. As we know, the Indonesian presidents took firm action against any Chinese ship that had illegally entered the Indonesian maritime area and stole Indonesian maritime resources in Indonesian territory. The Indonesian navy and the Chinese navy are currently facing each other on the border of the South China Sea.

Since the beginning of January, the protest has gone peacefully between the students and the police. However, two days ago, the protest turned from a peaceful protest into an anarchist protest. People assumed that it might be triggered by someone, either from the law enforcement side or from the protester's side. The police deployed 3 APC units, established a new defensive line against the protesters, and began spraying the protesters with tear gas with the intention to deescalate the protest. However, instead of running away, some protesters wore motorcycle helmets and began attacking the police. Although most of them used planks and/or rocks to attack the police force, many people speculated that a few of them used knives instead. It was proven after a police officer got stabbed in the chest and was taken to the nearest hospital.

The conflict between the police and the protesters happened until the next day (January 24, 2025), and it seems like it's never going to end. The military police in Jakarta were deployed to stop the protest, which in the beginning proved to be successful. However, according to the commander of the Jakarta Military Police, Lieutenant General Sandiaga Sunarjo, his men reported that several protesters possessed firearms, which might have been stolen from the downed police officers. A firefight happened between the armed protesters and the military police. In the end, the armed protesters were arrested by the police, and the firearm was returned to the Polda Metro Jaya.

The first military police soldier to be involved in the firefight is Second Corporal Purnomo Aryasatya. "Two soldiers were hit by bullets, and one soldier died when approaching the crowds," he said. "There is more than one armed protester; there were seven armed protesters fighting against the military police force and killing one of our men." According to Sunarjo, the protest killed seven people and injured around 40 to 50 people. Sunarjo has also decided that the military police and the law enforcement forces will do a routine patrol in Central Jakarta for two weeks to make sure the situation is fully calmed.


Police Arrested a Firearm Supplier

This morning, a Maluku citizen was caught carrying firearms towards Papua. A man with the initials SR was arrested by the police on a commercial ship and was brought back to Maluku soon after. The man stated that he supplied the Papuan terrorists with firearms to get more money and to be able to enjoy his life in the future. 10 grams of crystal meth were also found inside the man's backpack during the inspection. The weapons being delivered for the Papuan terrorists are three Pindad SS2 assault rifles and six G2 semi-automatic pistols. Police Inspector General Ridwan Omar speculated that TNI or police individuals in Maluku are involved in supplying the Papuan terrorists with firearms, considering that the Pindad SS2 and Pindad G2 are standard-issued military and police weapons and that it's impossible for SR to steal the weapon from the military base or police station in Maluku.

"An investigation was held as soon as we found those weapons," he said. "These weapons are owned by the TNI and Polda Maluku. Stealing it without getting caught by our men is almost impossible to be done, and for now we're speculating that SR got these firearms from a TNI or police individual somewhere in Maluku."

EU Referendum call pushed by National Party as pressure bites

Over the past few days, an EU referendum has come into the mainstream political fray, as government ministers are being pressured by more radical members of the National Party, namely members of the Yugoslav Freedom Accord, a group of around 35 NP MP's, who look to force a referendum on an issue which had engulfed the party since it's born all those years ago. While the party had remained in the side of Europhiles, or as Smirnov calls themselves, Euro Reformers, some have suggested added political pressure on the issue, which had been ignored since the 2011 Euro Currency Referendum, could cause not just the party into disarray, but the government. While their coalition members firmly oppose a referendum, one lower-ranked minister, who considers himself a centrist on the issue of an EU referendum, said that the government "must prevent itself from the issue" and further added that Smirnov should "ignore calls for a referendum to prevent government civil war". One political commentator, Alexsi Bruskov, deemed a left-wing commentator, stated that a referendum is "inevitable" and that Smirnov should announce one "now to prevent the issue from becoming out of the hand".

Leader of the group is former Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister from 2016-2021, who was the regional leader of the National Party from 2016-2019 in Slovenia, Janez Janša, known as an old-school member of the party. Janša's push for a referendum on EU membership, in his own words, comes from the "much-needed safety of our Union" and claims membership in the EU "massively undermines our cultural differences in these regions". While support for a referendum on the basis of cultural protection and democracy is fairly high in both the NP and DU, with it's suggested being over 53% of all MP's within the coalition supporting reforms to EU political law, it is the complete push to exit the European Union which is considered less popular, with the YFA and a fringe Yugoslav Freedom Party, who occupy just 2 seats in the National Assembly, being the only real pushers of an exit. While not popular with either MP's or the electorate, one supporter of leaving the EU, a former minister of the Bosnian Federal Government, Kraslvnov Lenko suggested that there is "30% of National Party MP's who could be persuaded into a referendum" and will be "crucial for the efforts of either side".

While referendum calls inside the National Party remain at a level too low for a government response, or a response from the President himself, calls for a referendum come, while in smaller numbers, of the Farmer and Labour Party, while having little parliamentary infulence, have acquired a following of left-wing Eurosceptics, who since the late 2010's have come to dominate the party itself, with the creation of the Farmer's Freedom Caucus in the party attracting 45% of all FLP MP's. Other parties supporting a referendum are the Yugoslav Freedom Party, but around 4 regional parties independent from regional bodies of the major 3, are the Serbian Union of Policy, a major right-wing think-tank, Bosnian Socialist Union and the Croatian Centrist Party. While the Eurosceptic parties may fall short in infulence and parliamentary seating/power, they make up in specific focus and pressure groups, with the Policy of Freedom, a Eurosceptic think-thank which has major infulence over right-wing party policy, and various other focus groups who attempt to infulence government policy.

The big question still remains; Will Smirnov buckle to the Eurosceptics of his party, or ignore their calls for a referendum and head onto his April budget?



12 children killed and 30 injured in bombing run by Yugoslav Force


In the latest bombing run by the Yugoslavian Air Force, 12 children have been killed and a further 30 were injured what has been deemed a "major accident" by the Yugoslav Military as they prepare for a major offensive on the BNF. Three jets attempted to bomb a Bosnian Position to begin a liberation of a small town, but failed to hit the target, striking a school and a mostly empty apartment block. While some suggest it was merely an accident, one commentator who was against the war's troop surge called it a "terror attack by the hands of the government". The mother of one of the children who were killed called it "another example for negotiation , not needless attacks on children". While political commentators have come back and fourth on the attacks justification, General of Yugoslav Air Force says the attack was "unfortunate for those who were killed" but defended the intent on the actions, calling it a "misguided approach to the much-needed assault on ultra-nationalist terrorists.

The attack was one of 3 carried out during that day, although the other two saw no casualties to that extent. As the war rages on, many have called Smirnov's troops surge "extensive" and commented that they hoped the war would end in the next few months, stating the thousands who have been killed as a "crime against the men, women and children of Bosnia". Leader of the BNF, who has been deemed a terrorist since early 2019, stated it as a "clear attack on the true Bosnian people" and called for the "people of Bosnia to go against the regime of Yugoslavia". Minister of Defence, Dmitri Luzek, stated that operations to defeat the Bosnian National Front will "remain at full throttle" and stated that preparations will continue for a major offensive in the coming weeks.



Slovenian Federal Elections preview - Nationalists vs Unionists


As the election cycle hits another year, the Slovenian Federal Assembly was dissolved ahead of a major general election, with the two groups of the Nationalist Coalition; that being parties supporting either an independent Slovenia or a more autonomous federal republic and Unionists; parties who oppose devolution to Slovenia or want to remain part of Yugoslavia. The two groups were discussed over the last few months, with back and fourth discussions finally seeing the establishment of coalition groups for the election. The biggest nationalist party, that being the Slovenian Freedom Party (SFP) are predicted to win the most amount of seats, although there counterparts, the Slovenian Democratic Union, the regional part of the Democratic Unionists, are predicted to make only slight losses and could still command a coalition in government. The second biggest nationalist party is the New Slovenia Party, a centrist party who call for independence, is suspected to see their seats cut by 50%, while their counterparts, that being the Slovenian Farmer and Labour Party (SFLP) are predicted to only lose 5% of their seats.

Foreign Secretary Shapps: Britain to take more 'affirmative' role in Europe, envisions greater US-UK partnership

LONDON, JANUARY - UK Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary Grant Shapps (who previously served as Home Secretary from 2021 to 2023) held an open-door meeting with various members of Britain's Foreign Office and with the Prime Minister, Theresa May, where they jointly outlined the administration's new focuses for foreign policy in the new year. Shapps has served as Foreign Secretary since 2023, when he was promoted from the Home Office leadership position to the Foreign Office. As foreign secretary, he has pushed against rhetoric against the US-UK special partnership, and has transitioned to being a staunch defender of Britain's participation in the European Union.

During the meeting, he stated that Britain intended to take a 'more affirmative role' in Europe and in the EU, pledging greater UK support for the European Union's various programs to strengthen the European continent 'against potential threats, both foreign and domestic'. Britain has remained a committed ally to the EU even in the wake of the narrowly-defeated Brexit referendum in 2016, and has worked under Shapps to strengthen their trans-continental partnerships. Shapps noted that the UK was likely to increase their support for Pan-European policing and migration moderation programs, and for the European Space Agency (ESA) and other science and technology programs.

He also affirmed his support for the continuing US-UK special partnership, born in the Second World War and evolved since then to be one of the strongest relationships. Under Prime Minister Theresa May, the relationship between Reagan and Thatcher was emulated by London with the various administrations in the United States. May has been supportive of maintaining a strong relationship with Washington, but recently has grown wary of 'opening up too much' her rightward flank politically, where right-wing Tories are critical of her 'open borders' policies.

'Britain has stood with her partners and allies through thick and thin; we will continue to do so,' Shapps said. 'Britain is here to stay, and we will continue fighting the good fight of defending democracy and liberty and self-determination globally'.




Royal Navy to conduct readiness exercises, first in the new year

LONDON, JANUARY - The Royal Navy has announced their intention to conduct 'comprehensive' readiness exercises in late January to early February in the North Atlantic and the North Sea, according to a presser by the Ministry of Defense (MoD). The Royal Navy has undergone an extensive period of growth and development under the premierships of David Cameron (2010-2021) and Theresa May (2021-present), and is now regarded as one of the more capable and well-equipped navies in Europe. The Navy conducts regular naval readiness exercises to maintain readiness levels especially with the carrier fleets. Regularly these exercises are done in conjunction with the RAF and the British Army as well.

The Royal Navy confirmed that elements of the Royal Air Force and Britain's royal marines would be taking part in the exercises, which will scale from blue seas maneuvers to minor amphibious landing exercises along Britain's southwestern coastlines.




Keir Starmer and Labour: Government not doing enough for the common Briton

LONDON, JANUARY - Leader of the Opposition and Labour Party chairman Keir Starmer appeared before the dispatch box in the Commons for the first time this year to condemn the government of Prime Minister Theresa May for 'not doing enough for the common Briton'. He condemned the government for 'moving slowly and slower and the most slowest' on the issues facing everyday citizens, ranging from inflation to cost of living to their treatment of migrants. Starmer in recent months has gone on the offensive as the Conservatives face a competitive election season this May at the ballot box. Five years ago, David Cameron was re-elected to the premiership by a strong margin; now, with COVID and cost of living on their record, the government of Theresa May - which succeeded Cameron after his 2021 resignation - is going to face a battle for the ages.

Questioning the Government and the Prime Minister's policies on housing, he asked, 'Why has nothing been done? When the state of Arizona counts faster than our Government acts on something as important as housing, then I think we have an issue on our hands,' Starmer said in December of 2024, in reference to the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

He also raised concerns about government military spending during the pandemic and immediate post-pandemic era budgets, where the May government continued budgetary increases for the military. 'What of the NHS? What of the millions of patients waiting for their appointment, or for the medicines they need to live?'. Starmer clarified that he did not support defunding the military, instead saying that 'the budget could have been more balanced'.

George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, led the government's defense that weak, calling Labour's statements as 'hypocritical and narrow-minded'. He declared that the Labour Party would 'steer the country into disaster' if they were 'allowed even so much as a say in our foreign policy'.

Soviet President Kozytskyy Visits Israel, Meets with PM:

Jerusalem, January 26th - Earlier yesterday Prime Minister Netanyahu met with newly-elected Soviet President Kozytskyy, holding talks at Beit Aghion. Later the two were seen together at Mount Herzl, in honor of Jewish who died at the hands of the brutal Stalin regime. According to a spokesperson for the Prime Minister, the two discussed regional security and diplomacy, reportedly speaking about the situation in Gaza, Arab nations, and Iran.

Prime Minister Netanyahu hailed the meeting as being representative of the increasingly positive relations between the Soviet Union and Israel, "correcting decades of anti-semitic rhetoric and prejudice." Netanyahu praised ties as contributing towards regional security and peace, noting that the Soviet Union has been a "significant partner" in normalizing relations with Iraq.

This comes amid speculation from experts reporting that Israel could soon establish dialogue with the new Iranian government with Soviet and American assistance. However a government spokesperson denied that dialogue would come soon, noting that there are "still a number of barriers preventing relations with the 'democratic' government in Iran." Chiefly among those were speculated to be the continued Iranian nuclear program, continued long range missile production, and continued support for Hamas, Hezbollah, as well as other terrorist groups. The spokesperson warned that "Israel's patience is not unlimited," stating that there was only a "limited timeline" for talks to occur between Israel and Iran.

The Prime Minister further expressed his hope that the Soviet Union and the United States would "mend relations and achieve peace," but was careful to emphasize that US-Israel relations were "unshakeable."




IDF Announces First Drills of New Year, Will Simulate Conflict with Hamas:

Jerusalem, January 27th - According to the IDF spokesman, the Ground Forces, Navy, and Air Force will be conducting large-scale joint drills around the Gaza strip starting this week. Drills are set to include simulated air defense against rocket fire, anti-smuggling training, riot control, and even a simulated ground incursion. The drills are set to include over 5,000 IDF personnel from all branches.

This comes as Security Chiefs have issued warnings that conflict with terror groups in the West Bank or Gaza could come at any time, given the "volatile situation." According to defense experts, the likelihood of clashes has been steadily increasing given building tensions and financial problems faced by the Hamas-controlled government in Gaza. Regular terror attacks against Israeli targets, Israeli police action in the West Bank, and tensions at holy sites all risk war breaking out once again after three years of relative peace.

It is said that IDF commanders hope the latest exercises will increase readiness and deter rocket attacks from Hamas.




Palestinian Terror Attack in Jerusalem, Suspect 'Neutralized' by Police:

Jerusalem, January 27th - Tonight gunfire broke out in the streets of Jerusalem as a Palestinian terrorist opened fire on a number of civilians dining at an outdoor restaurant. The attacker reportedly began shooting after drawing a concealed pistol, wounding two civilians before taking off running. Less than an hour later, Israel Police were able to successfully identify the suspect, who as reportedly "neutralized" by Israel Police officers. The pair of civilians are said to be in non-critical condition.

The attack was met with outrage from Public Security Minister Ben-Givr, who visited the crime scene to demand the government take action. Speaking to reporters, Ben-Gvir vowed to "take the fight to the enemy," warning that police operations in the West Bank to root out terrorist leaders were "imminent."

The Security Cabinet is set to discuss the incident later this week.




PM Netanyahu Departs Israel for Visit to the US:

Jerusalem, January 28th - After meeting with the Soviet President in Israel just days ago, Prime Minister Netanyahu is set to take a trip to the White House to meet with newly-elected President Newsom. The Prime Minister is reportedly hoping to coordinate action and stances with the United States regarding Iran, the Soviet Union, and other Arab countries.

According to insider information from senior officials, the Prime Minister is hoping to convince President Newsom to avoid ending sanctions on the Iranian missile program, citing threats to Israel and other American allies. Rumors have persisted that the Netanyahu government is seeking to take military action against the Iranian government should it not succumb to diplomatic or financial pressure regarding its missile program.

Just last week, security officials publicly railed against the continued operation of Iranian-built missile facilities in Syria, warning the Assad regime against supplying the equipment to terrorist groups such as Hezbollah or Hamas.

Smiling, President Kozytskyy extended his hand saying “Shalom my friend! Thank you for having me here today! It is an honor to visit Israel as my first trip abroad as President. I bring with me the sincere prayers and blessings of the Soviet people for you and your nation.”

"I am so glad you could come." replied Netanyahu as he shook hands with President Kozytskyy. "The Israeli people are grateful for your visit. It is our great hope that we can continue to develop our good relations, as well as cool down tensions both in the region and globally."

Netanyahu smiled. "If you will kindly come with me, I have a car ready for us to travel to Beit Aghion, so that we can speak on these issues."

As the pair arrived at Beit Aghion, the Soviet president followed the Israeli Prime Minister inside and into a meeting room. Taking his seat, President Kozytskyy smiled before saying “Again, thank you for hosting us here today. It is my honor to be here with you.”

"It is an honor to host you." said Netanyahu as he sat across the from the Russian President. "So, what brings you to Israel?"

“Firstly to show our commitment to the Israeli and Jewish people. In the past, unfortunately, this was not always the case. Thank God, in recent years better leadership has prevailed. With that being said, I would like to formally and officially apologize for the actions taken against the Jewish people under that horrible man, Joseph Stalin. He represented the worst of the Soviet Union. I plan to order the construction of a prominent memorial to those who lost their life to anti-semitism in the USSR, notably the victims of the Night of the Murdered Poets and Doctor’s Plot. If it is ok with you, I would also like to lay a wreath at an appropriate memorial here In Jerusalem in honor of those murdered and tortured in the Night of the Murdered Poets and the Doctor’s Plot. May God forgive our nation for those and the many other horrors committed against His people.”President Kozytskyy said, solemnly.

“Secondly, on a better note, I would like to discuss furthered security cooperation. Perhaps a fund to help Israel in defense and to assist in financing your humanitarian efforts?”

"I would be pleased to join you later laying wreaths at Mount Herzl to honor those who were repressed by the anti-semitic regime of Stalin. I believe the people of Israel and the Jewish people worldwide accept the Soviet Union's apology. Many Israelis came from the USSR, and we will forever have that connection." replied Netanyahu.

"I am very glad to discuss security cooperation. Regional security is of the utmost importance to Israel, particularly involving anti-terrorism operations across the Middle East. I would be happy to accept Soviet financial assistance that goes towards strengthening our border security and air defense. We would also appreciate assistance in our humanitarian efforts toward the West Bank and Gaza."

"I would also be very grateful for Soviet diplomatic assistance to work towards normalization of relations with Arab states, as well as joint counter-terrorism cooperation."

“Thank you my friend, May God forgive us as well. Now, I am glad you mentioned that last part. As you know, we’ve worked to mend relations here in the region and, thank God, we were successful with places like Iraq. Now, after here, I am scheduled to go to Tehran for talks with their new government. A government that, Lord willing, is more… amenable to better relations with Jerusalem. I intend, with the Lord’s will, to do just that. As such, I would like to know from you what your preconditions would be to start even backroom dialogue with Tehran?” President Kozytskyy replied, leaning back into his seat.

Netanyahu nodded solemnly. "Israel has a number of grievances against the past regime, and our preconditions are just as numerous. Firstly, we ask that Iran completely close its military nuclear program, destroying or handing over the the UN any advanced centrifuges capable of producing weapons-grade material. Second, we ask the Iran completely end destabilizing activities around the globe, including completely ceasing both government and private support for groups designated as terror organizations by Israel. And finally, we ask that Iran completely end its missile program, and destroy all long range ballistic missiles."

"That is the bare minimum we ask for us to begin dialogue."

"Very well, I shall take these demands with me to Tehran. Lord willing, we can soon have true dialogue. Now, is there anything you wished to discuss my friend?" Kozytskyy asked, leaning forward with a smile.

"As you are helping Israel by mediating with Iran, I am obliged to offer the Soviet Union the same, but with the United States. If the time comes, feel free to call and I would be more than happy to help mediate." replied Netanyahu. "But besides that, I do not have anything else my friend. Thank you very much for your assistance. I pray for our nations to continue our good relations."

“Thank you my friend, I may just take you up on that offer. We seek cooperation, not conflict with Washington. Now, shall we get to that memorial?” Kozytskyy replied, standing up.

Making sure I can find this again
Ardchu is a fun country to enjoy nature in, but also you can be murdered on the street by police or by the native wildlife, who are citizens here. And yes, we can talk with them and they can talk with us. They are equal citizens of this country, and we are disgusted by speciesism. They are canonically as smart as humans and can think for themselves, and many of them have run the country. National language is Ardchuan, but it's mandatory to learn at least one other nature language in school.

It has been three, long, years since the Ba'ath Party declared victory over the rebels, and yet, the scars of the conflict still shows themselves in the largest and most important city of Syria. Three years of repairs haven't been able to hide all of the damages, nor have they been able to get people to move back into their old homes. Many buildings still are destroyed or damaged, whole city blocks are still void of life, and it's clear to everybody, that the city will never return to its prewar state. How could it? Just like the rest of the nation, there was no way to return to how things were in 2011, before the war started. It has been 11 years. 11 long years of warfare. How does the population of a nation move on from such a thing?

It doesn't, at least not within its current generation. Maher al-Assad knew this, for even he was changed by the war. He was always known as the most brutal of his siblings; the war only made him worse. The atrocities that he have committed were more than enough to get him shot, yet that wasn't what was on his mind. He was able to hold onto the power that he, rightfully, deserved, and yet, it is still in a precarious position. What if there was another civil war? What if the nation was invaded by a foreign power? He might not survive another conflict, especially on Syrian soil. Even his fellow Alawites weren't the most supportive, for they sacrificed many of their own lives in order to protect the privileges that they, rightfully, are entitled to, but once they began refusing to enter military service, it really opened Maher's eyes to how carefully he must tread.

He, personally, had supported the idea of ending conscription, not because he wanted more career soldiers, but he wanted to ensure the loyalty of those with power. Alawites were tired of having their sons conscripted, and he could see why from the casualties. If transitioning to a full-time professional force was required to ensure loyalty, then he was more than ok with it. He wasn't a fool; he knew not to bite the hand that feeds him. The Kurds and Sunnis had very little reason to support him. Hezbollah only supports him due to pragmatic reasons. Iran could no longer be relied upon and the Soviets were proving to be useless partners. He had no allies outside of those born into a certain sect. He would do everything, in his power, to make sure that sect stayed with him.

As he looked down upon the city from the Presidential Palace, he began to think of more rewards he can offer his fellow Alawites. Remove all taxes upon them? More social liberties? Maybe even a universal income for them? The ideas were many, but the resources weren't there. The nation was still recovering and anything he does could easily make the economic situation worse. For now, he'll try to relax. He already knew this year would be like the rest, stressful. But at the end of the day, he's going to make sure that those who have proven themselves, loyal and capable, are rewarded, even if that means others must suffer for it. He would hold onto his power and fix this broken nation, whatever the cost.

PRESIDENT NGOGA, PREMIER MATHUKI CONGRATULATE NEW AMERICAN AND SOVIET LEADERS IN JOINT STATEMENT


ARUSHA, JANUARY 27 - President Martin Ngoga, as well as Premier Peter Mathuki, have sent their congratulations to Gavin Newsom and Maksym Kozytskyy, the new Presidents of the United States and the Soviet Union, respectively, in a joint statement. Newsom was sworn in as President of the United States on the 20th, while Kozytskyy was sworn in as President of the Soviet Union on the 10th.

Their statement reads, in part, "Our hope is that, with the arrival of new administrations in Washington and Moscow,the East African Federation can continue to maintain peaceful and friendly relations with both nations, and that the two new administrations can work together to secure peace, cooperation, and stability both between each other and around the world."

In recent times, Soviet-American relations have grown rather tense, which has many within East Africa and beyond concerned about a potential return to the Cold War era of competition between Moscow and Washington. The arrival of new leaders should help cool those fears for now, though it remains to be seen if both sides are equally willing to lower the growing tensions.



SKIRMISH BETWEEN EAST AFRICAN DEFENSE FORCES, INSURGENTS REPORTED IN NORTHERN BURUNDI


ARUSHA, JANUARY 27 - There has been a report of a clash between insurgents and members of the East African Defense Forces in Northern Burundi, part of which has been under insurgent occupation since 2022, soon after the formal establishment of the East African Federation. Casualties are currently unconfirmed, though estimates are at at least 8 dead EADF soldiers and 13 dead insurgents. The skirmish was the result of an insurgent ambush, according to Lieutenant General Neema Sekibo.

This comes amid rising tensions in the region between the insurgent militias and the EAF, as many politicians and military officers have urged to take action against the militias and end the insurgency once and for all. Premier Mathuki, who has supported a new offensive, has vowed "swift action" on the issue in response to the skirmish. What exactly this entails is yet to be seen.

YAOUNDÉ, JANUARY 27th - President Paul Biya gave a televised speech today in the capital formally calling in the new year. Millions of Cameroonians tuned in to hear the words of their president live as screens all across the nation were lit up with his face. President Biya was calm and collected, with several viewers noticing that he looked less jovial than usual. With the President nearing his 92nd birthday, speculation was up in the air if he would name his successor during the speech. However, no such announcement was made. The full text of President Biya's speech was as follows:

"My fellow Cameroonians, good evening. 2024 was a year of great challenges, but also great success. I have no doubt 2025 will follow suit. Our economy continues to grow, partly in thanks to our foreign friends. We are currently on track to reach 50 billion in US dollars by the end of this year, a major success all Cameroonians can get behind.

However, we still have to focus on the challenges at hand. We are all gravely concerned by the situation in Southern Cameroons. Our efforts to rebuild and stabilize the region are greatly complicated by separatist violence. All Cameroonians, no matter their language, are one people. I call upon the so called "Ambazonian" separatists to lay down their arms and contribute to peaceful dialogue in this situation.

Next, I would like to ensure that Cameroon will continue to work with our international partners around the globe. I extend my formal congratulations to President Newsom on his recent inauguration, as will as President Kozytskyy. Cameroon hopes for peaceful relations between nations, and hope to work with both the United States and the Soviet Union on economic development and maintaining peace.

My fellow Cameroonians, I foresee good things in our nation's future. Our country, as well as our regional allies remain committed to continued economic growth and fighting terrorism and separatism. I look forward to what this year holds for our nation. Thank you all, and good night.


SPECIAL BREAKING NEWS UPDATE-PRESIDENT BIYA HOSPITALIZED



YAOUNDÉ, JANUARY 31st - Breaking news now from the capital, President of the Senate Marcel Niat Njifenji confirmed in a televised speech that 91 year old President Paul Biya has been hospitalized just a few days after his new years speech. This announcement comes after speculation from viewers that the President looked unwell during his address. The President of the Senate was quoted as saying:

All of us are gravely concerned by the President's health, and extend our wholehearted well wishes to him to get better during this time. In the absence of our causing his inability to carry out presidential duties, I will be temporarily assuming the position of interim President, as is law according to our constitution. Myself and all Cameroonians give our well wishes to President Biya and his family at this time.

The Interim President's announcement was met with some condemnation however, with Prime Minister Joseph Ngute calling it a "violation of government norms" for Njifenji to appoint himself as interim President while Biya still lives. Both protests and counter protests have broken out in several cities, with some supporting the Interim President and others supporting the Prime Minister. President Éric Ciotti praises President Li's move toward democracy, condemns ultranationalists and Maoists in China



President Éric Ciotti praised Chinese President Li Xianglin for her efforts of moving the PRC away from Communism and towards democracy. Due to her uncle's policies, relations between France and the People's Republic of China were at an all-time low but with his niece's rise to power and her reforms then there is hope for the future. President Ciotti stated that he was happy that Communism coming to an end in the PRC and wants President Li to know that here government has the full support of France. President Ciotti has also condemned the ultranationalists, the Maoists and those who supported President Li's late uncle and predecessor for refusing to accept the reforms that are moving the PRC into the future. President Ciotti has stated that he would like to invite President Li Xianglin to Paris to discuss on how to improve relations between their two countries.






France extends an open hand to the East African Federation


President Ciotti extends an open invitation to the EAF's President Martin Ngoga and Premier Peter Mathuki to come to Paris to discuss how France can assist the EAF in dealing with the insurgency in Northern Burundi. President Ciotti said that one of France's biggest mistakes in the last 40 years was not doing anything to stop the Rwandan Genocide.






France to deploy Verdun Carrier group and 1 light armored brigade to Eastern Med for Joint exercises with Egypt, seeks joint exercises with UK


The French Ministry of Defense announced yesterday that it will conducting planned joint military exercises with Egypt. The units that will be deploying will be the Verdun Carrier Battlegroup and the 9e Brigade Légère Blindée de Marine (9th Light Armoured Marine Brigade). The exercises are set to take place February 6-20, 2025. The French Ministry of Defense has also decided to reach out to their counterparts across the English Channel about possible joint military exercises later in the year and are waiting for a response.






French Parliament passes a few bills
French Parliament passes a few bills stating that there are only 2 genders in biology, only biological females can play in in female sports and a ban on the use of puberty blockers, hormone therapy and/or gender reassignment surgeries on minors. President Ciotti immediately signed these bills into law stating that these bills were passed to stop radical transgenderism and Wokeism from creeping into French society and give those biological girls and women a fair chance. While many decry these laws as 'transphobic' and 'anti-lgbtq+', it was celebrated by people all across France as sign that normalcy is back.
History remains the same except Russia remained neutral during WW1, reforms were made so no USSR and Russia controls all Soviet territory plus Manchuria. Now in March 2023, the New Russian Federation has been formed.

LONDON, JANUARY - Prime Minister Theresa May faces her first Prime Minister's Questions (PMQ) of the new year this Wednesday. In her appearance before the House of Commons, she re-affirmed London's "unwavering" commitment to its Brussels responsibilities, and touted her proposed NHS waiting time cuts plan as '"incredibly imminent". She also pledged to work her "very hardest" to "support any and all efforts to bring about a stable and lasting peace" in Yugoslavia, and to continue to re-affirm Britain's security commitments to her Commonwealth partners globally. The Prime Minister's Questions is a weekly event in the Commons where members of the House (from both sides of the aisle, both government and opposition) may ask questions of the Prime Minister or, if allowed, of their Cabinet ministers as well. The practice has gone on for decades, and has become the main point through which the Prime Minister's government could be easily and publicly scrutinized. Generally, the PMQs focus on domestic policy and financial issues facing the country, but recent Prime Ministers - Cameron, May and Thatcher particularly - brought foreign policy to the table and carried it to public scrutiny as well.




PM May: Pro-democracy, "pro-people" reforms in China welcome, influence of CCP ultranationalists not

LONDON, JANUARY - Speaking at the Chatham House for International Relations, Prime Minister Theresa May offered her comments on recent reforms in China initiated by the central government intended to conclude communism and usher in democratic reforms. Addressing a question from a scholar on the issue, the Prime Minister welcomed the "pro-democracy and pro-people" reforms in China, calling the Chinese president "someone who I can certainly envision myself working with in the future". She stated that the "undue influence of CCP ultranationalists who seek to destabilize rather than unite" would be "hopefully eliminated" from Chinese politics. As for whether or not the reforms would change the UK's neutral stance on China adopted as the rise of China has put Western powers in an awkward position, the Prime Minister stated that "we will cross that bridge when we get there". The Foreign Office, under Secretary Grant Schapps, released its own separate memorandum, praising the reforms and calling it the "first step towards developing a greater China".




Sadiq Khan, London Mayor and Labour leader potential, to lead Labour reforms ahead of '25 cycle

LONDON, JANUARY - Sadiq Khan, a senior member of the National Executive Committee and a potential candidate for Labour leader, has been tapped by opposition chief Keir Starmer to lead Labour "internal reforms" ahead of the 2025 electoral cycle, which has already begun. Khan was previously appointed in 2023 to tackle discrimination, racism and equality issues within the Labour Party when Starmer pushed a shift in policy to a more pragmatic stance on social issues. The party has become slightly more progressive than the last time they were at the ballot box, and the Labour leader has refrained from making comments on the LGBT communities as he was previously seen as making. Khan told the media that he intended to "ensure that the Labour Party truly represented the common classes of Britain". Starting in 2024, the party began a comprehensive internal sweep of the party to clear out far-left or discriminatory elements of the party, in an effort to clear up the party's public image. With polls showing the coming general election to be heavily competitive, it appears the effort has worked to some extent - though Labour's strength in the polls against the incumbent Tories are more likely linked to inflation, economy and social issues.

Clashes Erupt in West Bank Between IDF and Palestinian Terrorists:

Jerusalem, February 1st - Following months of mounting violence in the West Bank, the IDF and Israeli Police have conducted rounds of police operations to capture terrorists planning attacks. In the latest police operation earlier today, the IDF has reported that significant clashes erupted between IDF soldiers and Palestinian militants in Jenin. Videos circulating social media seem to show an IDF convoy coming under attack after conducting an operation to arrest an unnamed senior Islamic Jihad leader, with IDF troops returning fire.

According to an IDF spokesperson, no casualties were reported among IDF troops, but "hits were observed" against Palestinian militants. Terror groups in Jenin appear to have confirmed this, announcing that two members of the PIJ were "martyred." Additional videos appear to show Palestinian militants bringing down an IDF commercial drone, which the IDF has not confirmed.

The latest development comes after National Security Minister Ben-Gvir has vowed to respond harshly against West Bank terror attacks, as the IDF ramps up its arrests in the West Bank. The latest escalation had led to fears of rocket fire from Gaza, which has become routine after terror group members are killed in the West Bank. Defense Minister Gallant warned Gaza-based groups against this, vowing to respond "disproportionately" to attacks originating from Gaza.




Explosions Reported in Syria, Israeli Involvement Suspected:

Golan Heights, February 3rd BREAKING - Early this morning, reports and footage has been circulating on social media of explosions in Syria, with some experts suggesting Israeli involvement. According to reports, strikes targeted Maysaf, which has been repeatedly struck in the past by Israeli airstrikes. This strike would be the first major Israeli attack in Syria in over a year. The IDF spokesperson declined to comment, saying "The IDF does not comment on foreign reports."

As the Security Cabinet convened for a regular meeting at the Prime Minister's office, the not so out of the ordinary debate was in full swing, as the far-right cabinet members clashed with the "moderates" on policy towards the Palestinians. Prime Minister Netanyahu stayed largely silent, having played the careful role of moderator, critical to keeping his government afloat. Finding the right moment to jump in, Netanyahu suddenly interrupted their debate. "Gentlemen, please. We are all in agreement here in terms of policy, our disagreement is in terms of implementation. Itamar, rest assured, I will be directing our police and the IDF to intensify security and our counter-terror operations in the West Bank. We are not looking for an escalation with the Palestinians. We are preparing for one."

Defense Minister Gallant nodded and gestured to the screen. "We are facing a more serious threat once again from the north. The Palestinian groups have been on the decline, at least in terms of their capabilities for the past few years now. After being cut off from the flow of weapons and cash from the IRGC, the growth of their rocket arsenals have been limited. Every time over the past few years they fired a few rockets and we responded with airstrikes, we have been destroying their arsenal a little bit at a time. Yes, they are now backed into a corner and that makes them more dangerous and unpredictable, but they know that the next major conflict they initiate will be the last. That has been a good deterrent. What is more concerning is Hezbollah. Ever since the fall of Iran, the Assad regime has been their biggest backer."

He paused, showing a map of missile production facilities across Syria and the former Lebanon. "As you are all aware, we have slowed the pace of our covert strikes against missile facilities in Syria in the past two years. In part to deescalate, in part because Iran had largely vacated the region, and in part because following the relative conclusion of the civil war, Assad has reigned in his Hezbollah allies. That is still the case, but looking at things from a strategic sense, we are entering a danger zone. Hezbollah has been able to continue to arm itself with long range rockets and missiles. Not as quickly as it was before, but at a steady rate. Should we enter a major escalation with Gaza, the intelligence community believes Hezbollah will be inclined to join in. In the past few years, Hamas and Hezbollah have been cooperating more than they did just twenty years ago. If they see the opportunity to attack us while we are distracted, we will be caught in a multi-front war once again. That is why the IDF chiefs and myself are asking to consider resuming our regular strikes against Hezbollah targets in Syria."

There was a few short murmurs across the room, but the entire cabinet was in agreement. "What do you have in mind?" asked Netanyahu.

"We have been monitoring Hezbollah and Syrian targets for years. The IDF has a database of thousands of targets. But the IDF has selected a number of formerly Iranian-backed sites for our air forces to strike. With the cabinet's approval, we will go down the list, striking a few targets each month. If successful, we can cripple Hezbollah and the Assad regime's capability to produce long range missiles over the next year. At the very least, we remind them of our capabilities, and send a strong warning to the new Iranian regime." replied Gallant.

Foreign Minister Cohen raised his hand. "Does intelligence expect any retaliation?"

"No, if precedent holds, we will not see anything significant." said National Security Council Chief Hanegbi. "In the past we have struck Syrian targets hundreds of times, and as long as we did not confirm involvement, the Assads have turned a blind eye. They do not want a war. And I think, secretly at least, Assad would be happy if Hezbollah's power was diminished."

Netanyahu nodded. "If we are all in agreement, you have the greenlight. I would rather take down our adversaries one at a time, at a time of our choosing, rather than wait and let the enemy bear down on us from all sides."

Six F-35Is took off from the runway as midnight approached, flying high over the Negev desert. Each was armed with four GBU-31 Mk84 JDAMs, two GBU-31 BLU-109 JDAMs, two AGM-88s, and two AIM-260 air to air missiles. Not the largest strike package, but surely enough to pack a punch. Reaching altitude, the jets quickly flew over the rest of Israel, and within half an hour, they were leaving Israeli airspace and flying over the sea. Nearly an hour after taking off, they racing to cross the Syrian border and nearing their target, the Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Center facility in Masyaf.

The facility had been struck dozens of times in the past, but each time the stubborn Syrians and former Iranian-backed groups had rebuilt it. This time would likely be no different, but unlike before, this time the attack would not be focused one or two buildings. With 24 JDAMs at their disposal, the strike would focus on the several missile production buildings, storage site, and the research lab.

As the jets closed on their target, they began electronic warfare to jam enemy air defense radar, cautious of the SAM battery located nearby the facility. Sure it was equipped with old S-200 and S-300 systems, but they would still pose a threat. On their final approach, the jets split off in waves of three jets apiece, allowing one to provide security while the other struck the base. Releasing their JDAMs and allowing them to glide onto their target, the F-35s loitered overhead for a few minutes as they conducted a damage assessment.

The soldiers of the 1st Armored Brigade had established themselves in the deep trench lines along their side of the training ground. A quarter kilometer away were trenches simulating a Soviet defensive position, dug based on the Poles own Soviet-era training manuals. About eighteen kilometers behind them, the Brigade’s artillery battalion was established, with a specific mission, much like the maneuver battalions had their own missions.

The artillery battalion’s mission for the exercise today was to drive up to their firing points, then burst fire a Multiple-Round Simultaneous Impact fire mission based on drone reconnaissance against the simulated frontline before driving back to an alternate firing position and executing another MRSI fire mission against simulated artillery positions. The maneuver battalions would then use their mortar companies to launch their own MRSI fire missions against the front lines just before the tanks and IFVs lurched forward, taking the position by fire, maneuver, and shock effect.

The seconds ticked away like hours as soldiers ran through final checks on their equipment. Officers checked watches and NCOs double checked their subordinates. Just as the sun began to peek over the eastern horizon, the artillery battalion cranked their engines and raced forward, driving a thousand meters to reach their primary firing positions. In thirty seconds, their guns were in action.

24 155mm guns barked in unison. Each gun would fire six rounds, precisely timed so that they would all land simultaneously on the same target. As each gun completed their firing, the crews packed up and raced back before moving to their alternates.

Within a few minutes of the exercise beginning, the first barrage of shells landed. The artillery had been focused on hardpoints, namely mortar and machine gun positions spotted by drones. The custodial unit that ran the training ground rotated brigades each month and would regularly change up the shape of the defensive position, even adding decoy positions to prevent the units training there from becoming too comfortable with the course. However, it also meant that the units spent a long time practicing their battle tasks and 1st Brigades Fire Support Teams were worth every zloty of their salaries.

The simulated hardpoints, including ATGMs, mortars, and medium and heavy machine gun nests, were almost entirely destroyed by over one hundred and forty Excalibur guided artillery rounds, which placed 3,200 kilograms of explosives on those positions. Certainly some in Parliament would moan about the cost, over 42 million zloty, but it put the rounds on target and the Polish military had long accepted that it couldn’t hope to match the Soviets for numbers, opting instead for precision.

And even as those shells, along with all the money it had cost to build them, exploded, the mortar companies rolled into action. The AMOS twin-barrel mortars could also fire MRSI missions, with each barrel capable of firing seven rounds in such a mission. Like the larger guns, they were firing guided rounds to maximize precision, though this time they focused on the trenches rather than specialist weapon positions. As the mortar rounds exploded on their targets, the K2PL tanks and Borsuk IFVs raced forward. About a quarter of a kilometer away, the IFVs stopped to offload their rifle teams, sending forward nearly four hundred soldiers to secure the position.

The entire exercise lasted only about an hour from when the artillery cranked their engines to when the line battalions ceased their advance. They would run several other exercises through the day, including attacks against inhabited trenches, naturally without live rounds in support. However, they always wanted to start an exercise day with live firings, to ensure the weapons worked. And to ensure that the Soviets knew that they could do it.

The cold winds of the steppe chilled Talgat Amangeldyuly Musabayev, Administrator of Sovcosmos, as he looked up at the looming rocket before him. Any moment, President Kozytskyy would be arriving at the launch site proper where the two would take an elevator up to the bridge that would be the final path for the four Soviet cosmonauts who were slated to make history today as the first Soviets to the moon and first humans back since the Apollo missions ended.

The four cosmonauts chosen were from across the Union and represented every corner of the vast country. The Commander, Artem Beridze, was from Georgia and an experienced cosmonaut. The Pilot, Sergey Ryzhikov, was from Russia. The first Mission Specialist, Oleg Novitsky, was from Belarus. Finally, the second Mission Specialist, Yaroslav Pustovyi, was from Ukraine. The group brought with them experience and determination.

As Administrator Musabayev pondered the crew, a convoy of vehicles arrived to where he was standing. Within seconds President Kozytskyy exited his SUV and waved to the cluster of media cameras. Making his way up to Musabayev, Kozytskyy smiled as he said "Administrator, today is the day! Lord willing, we will be sending our boys to the moon!"

Simply nodding, Musabayev smiled saying "Indeed. Sir, when you are ready, the crew is already upstairs and ready to board. The plan is for you to greet them, wait as they enter the command capsule, and then bid them farewell before returning to the observation room. We have global media set up for this and to capture all of the events. Moscow Mission Control is on standby as well."

Nodding, President Kozytskyy smiled as he followed the Administrator up and into the bridge that housed the cosmonauts before they entered the spacecraft. As he arrived to the holding room before the capsule, Kozytskyy smiled as he shook each crew member's hand saying "My friends, you today are making your nation, your people, and your world proud. May God bless you and keep you." Giving each one a salute, the President waited as the four loaded onto the craft before saying a prayer over them. Turning, he then made his way back to the elevators to return to the observation room with the Administrator and other officials following behind.

Arriving at the observation room, President Kozytskyy took his seat as the preparations started. As the final checks were conducted, a countdown clock for ten minutes started. Watching it with anticipation, Kozytskyy kept praying in his mind. Soon enough, the clock reached the final ten seconds as a voice over the radio started "Luna One, T-minus 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Luna One is good for launch. Launch commenced. Luna one has lifted off."

Looking out ahead, President Kozytskky smiled as he watched the rocket lift off and raise up into the sky above. Thanking God, he turned to the Administrator and gave him a hug before turning to everyone and saying "Good job everyone! You have all made your nation very proud today. In three days' time, Lord willing, our brave men will step foot on the Moon for all to see!"

President Kozystkyy sat glued to his television screen as the images beamed down from just above the moon. The Soviet craft was nearing the surface of the moon ut just moments before, Kozystkyy had concluded a call with the crew prior to their descent to the surface. Now, everything was in God's hands as the craft fluttered down towards the ever-increasing lunar surface.

Modern camera and communication technology had allowed the events from the Lunar orbit to broadcast for the entire world to see in fairly clear resolution, starting when the descent was initiated. Now, all over the world on TV and through the internet, people would be able to watch as man returned to the lunar surface. Across the Soviet Union watch parties organized by individuals, groups, local governments, Republics, and even a few Federal ones had been organized for the day.

Before long, the voice of Commander Artem Beridze came over the video as the lunar surface engulfed the screens of televisions, computers, phones, screens across the globe. "Moscow, 30 meters. 20 meters. 10 meters. 8 meters. 6 meters. 4 meters. 2 meters. 1 meter." the voice of Artem announced before a pause as a jolt was seen on the video stream. A second later, the voice of Artem returned announcing "Moscow, this is Tycho. Luna has landed. EVA in three hours."

Cheers rang out from aides in the office with Kozytskyy, in mission control, men and women celebrated as the joy and excitement spread across those who had been watching with bated anticipation. In just three hours, Lord willing, we will walk on that lunar surface. Kozystskyy thought to himself, smiling and embracing those around him.

Three hours had passed as the crew had prepared. Now, as the cameras were again ready to capture the moment, Artem Beridze unlatched the module's door and checked the ladder. Making sure it was secure, he nodded to his compatriots before turning and making his way down the ladder. Stopping on the bottom rung, he turned to one of the exterior cameras pointed at him and said in English "Today, we thank God for this great moment. In remembrance of those brave men who went before, I say that this is again, one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Jumping off of the ladder and touching down onto the Moon, Artem raised his hands as he said in Russian "We are here!"

As the others came out behind him, Yaroslav Pustovyi carried out the Soviet flag. Making his way to a few meters from the capsule, he raised it up before spiking it into the ground and wiggling it into the lunar surface. Soon, all four stood back and saluted the flag for the broadcast to see. The Soviets had reached the Moon.

KREMLIN MOVES ANNOUNCES NEW ACTIONS AGAINST GLOBAL TERRORISM

President Kozytskyy today announce that the Soviet Union has listed Hamas, Hezbollah, the Palestinian Liberation Front, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and other such groups as terrorist organizations. The move also came with a warning, largely seen as being aimed at the wider PLO that "Actions of terrorism or support in any form for those committing terrorist acts will not be tolerated by the Soviet Union. Those found responsible or responsible for providing any form of aid remain open to sanctions, designation as terrorist organizations, or any other measures necessary to secure the safety and security of the Soviet Union, her people, and her allies."

The new designation was added to the Foreign Ministry website and a notice was sent out to the public with 72 hours given for any individual or group to cease any contact with the groups or face charges of aiding a terrorist organization. The move comes o the heels of the President visiting Israel last month, with many seeing the region as a key focus for the new administration.





BATTLECRUISER ADMIRAL LAZAREV RETURNS TO DUTY AFTER REFIT

The Navy today announced that the Admiral Lazarev Battlecruiser has returned ti active duty in the Pacific fleet after undergoing a refit and upgrade to its systems. The ship now boasts the ability to launch Kalibr missiles and has had massive upgrades to the electronic systems onboard the ship. This now makes the Admiral Lazarev the third of five Kirov Class Battlecruisers to have received the upgrade.

The Navy has stated that the last two remaining Kirov ships are scheduled to undergo their own refits later this year and later next year respectively. This comes as tensions are simmering in the Middle East with increased focus in recent weeks on the region from both Washington and Moscow.





SUPREME SOVIET PASSES BILL FORBIDDING ANY FORM OF AID TO GROUPS LISTED ON TERROR LIST

The Supreme Soviet today passed a bill that would give the President powers to add any organization or individual to a terror list that would ban Soviet companies, individuals, and organizations from having any contact or providing any aid to those listed. The bill also notes that the President or 3/4ths of the Parliament are the only entity able to remove a name from the list.

The move comes as President Kozystkyy wrapped up his time in the Middle East with meetings in Jerusalem and Tehran and as the Supreme Soviet passed a bill reaffirming the Defender agreement with Iraq. In recent years, Jerusalem and Moscow have grown closer with Moscow recognizing Jerusalem as the Israeli capital several years ago. Experts believe that this move may be the prelude to something larger happening in regards to the region.

Prime Minister Sayyid Kharazi, as well as some of his staff and a Russian interpreter, waited on the tarmac as the Soviet president's jet taxied into place, with a military band on standby to play the Soviet national anthem once the president stepped outside.

As the president exited his plane, the band began to play, and the Iranian delegation waited to greet with the president and his staff. "President Kozytskyy, welcome to Tehran," Prime Minister Kharazi stated, shaking Kozytskyy's hand with a smile, allowing the gesture to linger for the cameras.

“Mr. Prime Minister, thank you for hosting me here today. We have much to discuss.” President Kozytskyy replied with a firm smile.

"Please, this way." Khazari - and his interpreter - directed the Russian president to their convoy, which would take them to the Sa'dabad Complex, where the residences and offices of the president and prime minister were housed, in the northern reaches of Tehran.

The duo would be led to the Boostan Palace, where they would be settled after a few more pictures from the press corps. A staffer reminded Khazari and Kozytskyy that after their meeting, the Soviet president would be due to meet President Pahlavi in the Prince Abdol Reza Palace for the ceremonial exchange of gifts and comments between the two heads of state, before the two and their respective interpreters and staff were left alone.

"So, Mr. President, I know that your office likely received a message of congratulations from our embassy, but once again, congratulations on your election and inauguration," Khazari smiled.

“Thank you, Mr. Prime Minister. Indeed, I was grateful to receive that message. Congratulations to you and President Pahlavi for restoring a sense of sanity to Iran. I look forward to working with both of you to help ensure a brighter future for your nation, the region, and our wider world. With that, with your permission, I’d like to delve right into business.” Kozytskyy replied, taking his seat at the table.

"Of course, you have a busy day ahead, I understand," Khazari said, taking his own seat. "What can we do for you, Mr. President?"

“The USSR is interested in helping aid in bringing Iran back into the global community and bringing your nation into the modern area. Firstly, we’d be willing to donate humanitarian aid to your people. We’d also be interested in aiding in the construction of modern hospitals and civilian infrastructure.” The President replied, sitting back into his chair.

"I appreciate the offer, Mr. President. There are a few remote regions that require attention, and I'm certain we could put some resources to good use there for the development of modern hospitals and infrastructure," Khazari noted. "Though I would state that the main roadblock to our re-integration with the global community are US and EU sanctions that continue to hobble us on different fronts," Khazari grumbled. (edited)

“Indeed. Well, we are willing to advocate on your behalf with Washington and Brussels. However, we have our own concerns. As I’m sure you’re aware, I have just come from Jerusalem and I will not beat around the bush. We would like to see Jerusalem and Tehran cooperating, at least behind the scenes if not publicly. As such, we are requesting that you and your government end the possibility of a nuclear weapons program, long range missiles, and destabilizing activities in the region such as backing or allowing the backing of groups like Hamas.” Pausing for a moment, he continued by saying “I recognize and thank you for taking great steps in all of these areas, but I would like to see how we can work together to completely shut the past chapter in your nation’s history and move forward into a brighter future together.” Kozytskyy ended with a friendly smile. Khazari couldn't help but raise an eyebrow to the Soviet president...rather, the Israeli prime minister's, demands. "Forgive me, Mr. President, but my...counterpart is aware that we are in compliance with both the JCPOA and the NPT, yes? Even if my government, or any future government for that matter, wanted to resume the regime's nuclear weapons program that was, ahem, 'allegedly,' being developed before the implementation of the JCPOA, to do so would mean the re-imposition of devastating sanctions for my country, through the snapback measures in the Agreement."

"As for our long range missiles, look, they should not have been a priority for the regime, but now that we have them, we can't just get rid of them. There are those who would think us weak if we were to unilaterally disarm, the Saudis, for one. Not to mention the cost."

"When the regime fell, our focus was on the transition and domestic issues. We haven't been tending to those particular gardens for some time now. If anything, they've likely found material support from the Syrians. I'm not sure what you mean by 'allowing the backing.' Do you mean we need to impose a restriction on our citizens from providing material and financial support to those groups?"

“Yes indeed, I suppose the concern is over the future possibility of a nuclear weapon being developed under the radar so to speak. Plus the fact that the JCPOA sunsets after 10 years. As for the missiles, I understand, but perhaps there is a way around that? A way we can signal strength against the Saudis and prevent you from bearing major costs. We would be willing to bear the cost of destroying the missiles and finding a path to show strength to the Saudis. As far as the aid to terrorism, yes. That would be ideal.” President Kozytskyy replied.

Prime Minister Khazari scratched at his beard for a moment. He had not been prepared for this kind of conversation. "Frankly, you have me at a disadvantage, Mr. President. I was not expecting the Zionists to make demands of us, let alone these kinds of demands, through you," Khazari said, taking care with his words - technically, Iran still did not recognize Israel.

"If I were to submit a bill to the Majles tomorrow banning private citizens from providing financial and material aid to, say, Hamas and Hezbollah, the first question we'd get is, 'why?' Now, we could tell them that we are righting a wrong, we are hoping to stabilize the region, and so on. But we have a free, and very inquisitive, press, Mr. President, and I hazard it would not take long for this new generation of journalists to put two and two together. Now, that bill alone probably would not burn down this government, and we'd have a certain degree of deniability on that matter."

"But disarmament on top of that?" Khazari continued. "Either they'd think we were trying to appease the Zionists, or that we were incompetent on matters of national security at the expense of Saudi posturing, or that we were trying to appease you and the Americans. And frankly, Mr. President, I don't know which would be worse."

“I understand. I do. Perhaps, we take a measured approach? A sign of goodwill, introduce a bill against funding destabilizing groups. I have plans to take similar actions in Moscow. Perhaps then your actions would both cast a much larger net and be less likely to bear hard questions given our own actions against destabilizing factors? From there, we can work on the other areas of concern and find reasonable and realistic solutions. I pray you, and I believe you do, want a stable and peaceful Middle East.” President Kozytskyy replied.

“And, perhaps both of our nations release a joint statement against Saudi aggression and practices? I feel confident we could get Iraq to sign on, making Tehran look like a regional power player and a nation committed to moving forward for a better and more secure region and future.” He added quickly.

"I will take the matter of a bill concerning the funding and support of Hamas and Hezbollah to the cabinet. Considering none of us have much love for the last regime's steps in that regard, it shouldn't be too hard to rally support. There will be some opposition from the clericalists, but assuming your government announces a similar bill, we should be able to quash any...suspicions, as it were," Khazari answered.

"If you can get the Iraqis to agree on a joint statement concerning the Saudis, that might help alleviate some concerns. Though concerning Saudi influence among Sunni practitioners...it might be a hard ask," Khazari said. "There are other ways we hope to expand our influence. It's still in the works, but we are preparing to announce grants for civil society programs in the region, to promote, among other things, democratic engagement, journalistic practices, organizing, and such. The ayatollahs were too short-sighted. There is an appetite for regionally informed democracy that, perhaps, my government can satisfy."

“Thank you. Lord willing, we are about to see the dawn of a new era in this region. Now, was there anything you wished to discuss?” Kozytskyy asked.

Khazari thought to himself for a moment, before shaking his head. “No, I believe that is enough for the moment. Should anything else come to mind, we will be in touch,” the prime minister said, extending his hand for the president to shake.

Standing, President Kozytskyy smiled as he shook the Prime Minister’s hand. “One last thing, if we can absolve both sides of immediate fears, would you be willing to engage in at least backroom talks with Israel?”

Khazari could only shrug. "If it is possible and if there is appetite for it, then yes, we can make that an option for the future. In the meantime, I'll take you to the president's residence to meet President Pahlavi. I'll see you at the state dinner, later," Khazari said.

“Thank you. My friend. I look forward to continuing this relationship.” President Kozytskyy said, with a smile.

Skies over Turkmenistan SSR, USSR

President Kozytskyy looked out the window of his office on Soviet Air One. Thank God, the meetings in Jerusalem and Tehran both seemed to have moved in a positive direction. But now, he had to make good on a deal.

Shifting his eyes back to his desk, he waited for a moment before the light on his phone turned green, indicating a connection to the Iraqi Prime Minister.

Picking up the receiver, Kozytskyy said a silent prayer before clearing his through and saying “Al Sudani, my friend! Thank you for taking my no notice call!”

"I expected something sooner or later. You were in the area and we just finished our own paperwork in terms with your people as well..." replied Al Sudani in return at that. As ever since the Soviets had assisted out the 'rebels' during the Arab Spring and for years later on, more and more culture had flown into Iraq as well. Granted it was just the odd movies, clothing style and language - not Communism and World Revolution anymore.

"How may I provide assistance?" he added, his own Russian being heavily accented yet understandable for this occasion.

“Thank you, I believe that, Lord willing, the Supreme Soviet is set to vote on our end of the renewal later this week. But, on to other matters, as you alluded to, I just spent a few days in the region between Jerusalem and Tehran. Thank God, I believe these were both promising meetings, but I do now have a request of you. Would you be willing to send out a joint statement against Saudi aggression in the region? It would be jointly between you, Iran, and us.” President Kozytskyy replied, leaning back into his seat, putting the phone on speaker, and setting the receiver down.

"Hmm. May I ask what is the 'statement' about?" asked Al Sudani, being naturally curious and naturally uneager to attach their name to anything, without having it questioned first. As such was the way of politics nowadays - as ideological unity was a thing of the past, same with the Communists whom still remained yet whose ideas had been sidelined by more pragmatic ideas. That...and it was easier talking with a man of the faith - whom understood somewhat their thoughts and culture.

"I'm not against the joint union against those fanatics. They give too many of us and Him a bad name for things..." he added. As it was partially the actions of the Saudis and their 'funding' that had made many assume, that all Muslims were radicals and fanatics - instead of people. All for the sake of gaining power in the area. Instead enough, it had unified many in opposition - both on the side of the West and the East.

“Of course my friend, the general idea is we would be openly calling out Riyadh for their ideology and their actions that destabilize the region. At least that’s what I am thinking. We can iron out the exact details before it’s release. The main point is it shows a united front against destabilizing actions from the Saudis.” President Kozytskyy replied, waving his hands as he talked even tho nobody could see him.

"Hmm. I'm more curious about what Washington is going to reply towards. As one could say...it is an open declaration to their inability to contain their 'allies'..." commented Al Sudani, as in this developing world - things were heating up again...or rather cooling. Seeing how, for many involved - it seemed like these past decades of peace had been merely another 'détente' between the United States and the USSR - and many were thinking enough that another Cold War was rising...or 'resuming' by some more cynical observers.

"...still...if you deem it necessary, I am willing to support things..." he spoke - after a few minutes of thought and contemplation. As civil conflict seemed a constant in the Middle East, all of which organized by some 'radical' eager to blow themselves up or unleash a firefight with the local people. Not helped by the fact, most targeted Shia-areas for the sake of them being the 'lesser brother' to Sunnism.

“I truly believe that it is something we should do. Lord willing, it will accomplish three goals. First, bringing Tehran out of its shell, secondly, winning good will with them making future talks regarding talks with Israel easier, and thirdly taking a stand against a dangerous actor in the region.” President Kozytskyy replied, shifting in his chair.

Al Sudani took a moment to contemplate and think at that - knowing enough that doing so would get some hairs ruffled and others angered. But that was part of leadership in the Middle East, as you always displeased someone at that. That and with it being a Soviet plan, it did carry some requirements and agreements that needed to be fulfilled.

Case in point, Washington was more 'generous' whenever it wanted something - in contrast to Moscow, whom demanded more unity among their 'allies'. On the other hand, Washington had a habit of flip-flopping between one policy and another, in comparison the Soviets were sometimes more direct yet also more open and willing to defend their allies beyond points of disconnect...unlike the Americans.

As he knew enough, that their alliance was a give and take - one needed to provide too. "President Kozytskyy. You have my approval. It may take time for us to formulate our own official stance. But if you take your own, the Kingdom of Iraq will support you..." he declared.

“Thank you Mr. Prime Minister. Now, is there anything else you wished to discuss my friend?” President Kozytskyy replied, making a mental note to check with the Supreme Soviet on the vote to renew the Defender agreement.

- Breaking news today from the capital, as it has been announced that President Paul Biya, longtime leader of Cameroon since 1982, has died aged 91. President Biya succeeded President Ahmadou Ahidjo on November 6th, 1982, and has led Cameroon ever since. He is survived by his wife Chantal and three children. Interim President Marcel Niat Njifenji has announced a period of national mourning, and fully assumed the role of President until new elections can be held. In a televised speech today in the capital, Interim President Niat Njifenji gave remarks.

My fellow Cameroonians, today I come to you with terrible news. Our beloved President, Paul Biya, has died. I was as shocked as the rest of you to learn of the passing of our great leader, and grief for him. My deepest condolences, and the condolences of all Cameroonians go out to his family. This great man led our nation through trials and tribulations since 1982, and we all owe him a great debt.

In accordance with our constitution, elections will be held within 90 days to elect our next President. I also have given the order to enact a two week period of national mourning, to give our country time to give President Biya a proper send off into his next life. President Biya worked hard to address the challenges facing our nation, such as the current situation in Southern Cameroons, which we must address to properly honor his legacy.

My fellow Cameroonians, we all mourn the loss of our President, which is why we must work to see his work finished. Thank you.



SPECIAL BREAKING NEWS UPDATE-POSSIBLE COUP IN PROGRESS

YAOUNDÉ, FEBRUARY 12th, 2025
- Less than three days after the death of President Biya, the loss of Cameroons leader seems to have ignited a tinderbox. Armored Personnel Carriers and soldiers equipped with assault rifles and RPGs were seen storming the streets of Yaoundé, moving towards the Presidential Palace. Reports are already emerging of the arrest of Interim President Niat Njifenji by military forces loyal to Prime Minister Joseph Ngute, a man seen as a rival in the struggle for the Presidency post-Biya.

Sounds of gunfire and explosions were heard near the government district, alongside reports of clashes between pro-coup and anti-coup military forces. Shortly after, several soldiers of the Rapid Intervention Battalion, an elite military unit, appeared on state television. The men claimed loyalty to Prime Minister Ngute, and a man who identified himself as "Captain Issa Ahmadou" gave an address giving motivation for the coup.

"Today, important action was taken to liberate Cameroon. Interim President Niat Njifenji and his allies in government were planning to take the presidency and continue to allow Cameroon to be subjugated under French Neo-colonial rule. This has ended. This man has been arrested, and a temporary military government has been established while we deal with the remaining traitors.

For over a century our people have suffered under the French, both during and after their colonization. Today we break free, and create an independent Cameroon free from European rule. We will no longer be forced to use their currency, or follow their orders. Yesterday, it was Cameroon for France. But today, it is Cameroon for Cameroonians!


However, the planned coup seems to have not gone completely as planned, as Cavayé Yéguié Djibril, President of the National Assembly and close ally of the imprisoned Interim President, has reportedly successfully escaped to the port city of Douala. Djibril and several political allies gathered in the city and declared the Cameroonian government to still exist in opposition to the new military junta in Yaoundé. The Douala government has put out a plea to the international community, especially France and the United States, to oppose the junta and recognize the constitutionally supported Douala government. Marines of the Naval Infantry have gathered in the port city and declared their intention to support the government there, as well as thousands of civilians.

Across Cameroon, both pro-coup and anti-coup protests have broken out, with some even turning violent. In one incident, pro-coup military soldiers were attempting to break up a fight when one soldier panicked and opened fire, followed by a massive volley of automatic fire into the crowd. Reports are giving casualty updates as high as several hundred.

Several cities across Cameroon are burning, and both the Yaoundé and Douala governments have called for the other to stand down. Now the nation holds its breath, as Cameroon teeters on the edge of the abyss.


ANGLOPHONE SEPARATISTS LAUNCH OFFENSIVE

BUEA, FEBRUARY 14th, 2025
- The rebel forces of the self-proclaimed "Federal Republic of Ambazonia", have reportedly decided to take advantage of the chaos and launch a massive offensive, capturing significant amounts of territory in both the Northwest and Southwest Regions. Government forces, unaware of who they are even supposed to take orders from as a result of the ongoing crisis, were overrun and driven back without giving much of a fight. The Ambazonians have made significant progress, reversing several years worth of government success in driving back the rebellion.

The city of Buea, which houses over 300,000 citizens, is reportedly at risk of complete encirclement due to this offensive. Government troops did eventually halt the rebel advance, but the damage has already been done, with reports of hundreds of government soldiers captured and dozens of villages falling to the rebels. When asked of the current crisis, rebel leaders reportedly rejected both competing governments, saying the following:

It does not matter who is ruler of Cameroon, as we are not Cameroonians, we are Ambazonians.

The nation of Cameroon was already reeling from the ongoing succession crisis, and this offensive by the separatists is certain to make matters even worse.

Prime Minister Theresa May nodded to her PPS as she walked through a rear hallway in 10 Downing Street - official residence of the Prime Minister, and the PM's official office as well. May had resided in the historical home since 2021, after her former superior, David Cameron, resigned from the premiership after 11 years in power. She glanced briefly at the paintings of the previous prime ministers as she walked down the hall, passing by several staffers who nodded, smiled, or did both. A Cabinet deputy entered 10 Downing Street through the front door just down the hall, providing a glimpse of the media eternally camped outside.

Entering the Cabinet Room, those inside stood up in attention and nodded to the Prime Minister.

"At ease, gentlemen, ladies," May said, as she took her seat at the head of the table.

The Prime Minister opened her maroon folder - the folder tagged for national security and foreign affairs concerns, and turned to her immediate left, where Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Secretary Grant Schapps was seated.

"Grant, what do you have for us today?" May said.

The Foreign Secretary cleared his throat as he opened his own folder and pulled out his briefs.

"There appears to be an ongoing critical situation in Cameroon. Prime Minister Joseph Ngute and forces allied to him have seized power from Interim President Niat Njifenji after the death of their former president."

"Motives?" May asked.

Schapps nodded. "It's anti-colonialist. Anti-French, specifically, it appears."

May shook her head. "Anything we can do?"

"Nothing that wouldn't be seen as provocative to at least one faction out there. I recommend we monitor what happens, see if any British citizens are endangered. If so, then we move on from that."

"Alright," the Prime Minister said. "What else do we have?"

"Well, the Kremlin at the start of the month announced new actions against global terrorism. Hamas, Hezbollah, PLF, PIJ, the like. All Middle Eastern. The Soviets have also placed crew on the Moon, near Tycho Crater."

"How's UKSA going?" May asked. "We allocated additional funding for them in the 2023 round and kept at 3.5% increases annually, right?"

Ben Wallace, the Secretary of State for Defense, spoke up. "UKSA is moving along well, Prime Minister. We've expanded our efforts to open our own domestic spaceports, and we're readying up for regular sounding rocket sub-orbital test flights. We could have an orbital flight-ready vehicle - likely from a private company - by the end of the decade, but no promises at the moment, unfortunately."

"I see. Well, keep at it. I plan to visit Sutherland next week, so I hope we can make preparations for that as soon as now. Mr. Schapps?"

The Foreign Secretary nodded. "There were clashes again at the start of the month between the IDF and Palestinian forces. Explosions reported in Syria, Israel was accused."

"Suggested course of action?" the Prime Minister asked.

"Monitor the situation well, as usual. Nothing much we can do."

"Can we sit down with Netanyahu, talk things out? A stable MENA is a MENA that Britain can work with easily. A MENA Britain can buy resources from easily."

"I'll see what I can do." Schapps said.

"Is that all?"

A nod.

"Splendid. We can bring in the economic team now."

Schapps and Wallace stood up, leaving the rest at the table. They shook hands with Prime Minister May as they were ushered out of the room. May took a sip of her tea as she turned to look out the window, where she caught the glimpse of flowering plants. Spring was coming, and she prayed it would be a quiet one.
