Character Application and Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Federal Republic of Countesia
Character Name: Ernesto De Sandoval
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 64
Character Date of Birth: April 9th, 1958.
Character Position/Role/Job: Chairman of the Partido Forwardista de Carbania
Character Country/Province of Birth: Carbania
Character Province of Residence: Bolívar y Carbán
Character Party Affiliation: Partido Forwardista de Carbania
Faceclaim: Danny Trejo
Main Strengths: Pragmatic, in touch with the common man, business savvy.
Main Weaknesses: His goals are considered too ambitious by many for a country of its size and wealth. Criticised by many as a pathological fence sitter due to his views.
Biography:

Ernesto De Sandovals childhood, by his own admission, was completely unremarkable. He was born on the 9th of April 1958 to banana farmers Maria De Sandoval and Pablo De Sandoval. The eighth and youngest child of the De Sandoval Family. As was typical to dirt poor farmers of the time, Ernesto did not attend school nor did he learn to read. From the moment he was able to walk, Ernesto tended to the farm with his sister and brothers for eight hours a day, machete in hand, harvesting crops, clearing weeds and keeping the local pests from swiping produce. On the few hours of his day that he was not expected to work the farm, he would often be found playing football with friends or exploring the wilderness.

Ernesto was three weeks short of his twentieth birthday when Marcelo Mendez usurped power in Carbenia. As a simple farmer who had never left a twenty mile radius of his community, he had little interaction with the local authorities, and was largely ignorant of the world beyond. This simplistic worldview of his would be shattered when his out of the way village found itself caught in the middle of an incredibly violent guerilla campaign between communist rebels and soldiers loyal to the Mendez Regime. His home had been transformed from a tight knit community into a police state almost overnight. Soldiers flooded the village, enforcing curfews, checkpoints and random searches at gunpoint. Many homes were raided under the pretext of searching for communist rebels. The surge of army activity in the area inevitably drew in the very communist fighters that the army had arrived to snuff out, leading to skirmishes being an almost daily occurrence in the surrounding countryside. The damage to the community was not just physical, as many residents took arms against the Mendez regime by siding with the communists, with others choosing to become informants for the army and local police.

By the time the communists had been driven out of the area, Ernesto had lost two brothers in the fighting as one had been spurred into joining the communist in response to what he perceived as an invasion of his home by tyrants. His other brother had died in a mass shooting perpetrated by the army. The surrounding farmland itself had been razed by the fighting, and many of the local populace lacked the funds to repair and reseed their homes, Ernesto's family being one of them. Those who had not already fled the fighting found themselves migrating towards the more urbanised areas of the country in look for work. This included Ernestos sole sister, and two of his still living brothers.

choosing to stay instead of relocating to the cities, Ernesto was desperate to find a new income for his parents who were growing too old to work. Although he was able to finds ome work as a harvester in the farms that were able to recover from the fighting, he struggled to provide for them. His hopelessness was cut short however, as he was suddenly hit by an idea after witnessing his employers lend farm equipment to less well off neighbours for cash. Alongside with the two brothers that had also stayed to look after his ailing parents, they were able to save up a sizeable sum of money over the course of a year. With their funds, they purchased dozens of various agricultural tools and began renting them out to neighbours for fixed periods. Taking advantage of this niche in the local economy, their small business grew exponentially, and within the year Ernesto and his brothers had hundreds of clients and a considerable cash flow. They took this opportunity to finally get an education, and learnt to read to help support their business. Within five years they had made their first 500,000 sucres.

In the next thirty years, their local business had expanded outright to become a massive operation with several warehouses across Bolívar y Carbán and Camparroz, leasing out tools and tractors to farmers which had become a more cost effective method as opposed to buying them outright. As the youngest brother, Ernesto was the sole founder still in the business. All three of his brothers had retired with their own fortunes. By this point their venture more or less ran itself. Ernesto had found himself with more free time than he knew what to do with. With the death of Marcelo Mandez in 2016 and the subsequent promise to hold free and fair elections, Ernesto took the leap into politics. The traumatic events of his early adult years had left him with an extreme dislike of the far right junta that had invaded his home, with an equal level of disdain towards the communists that turned it into a battleground. This led Ernesto to found the Partido Forwardista de Carbania, a strictly centrist and politically moderate party that would have pragmatic and logical solutions towards the issues his country faced, instead of the solutions fuelled by fear and emotion that tore his home apart.

Forwardista is a bit funny, but I'm not here to critique Google Translate :) (if you want me to, I can help!)

Before I give the party a formal review, I want to strongly encourage you check out one of the other four billion centrist parties already. That way, chances are you won't steal other peoples' votes as much and they won't steal yours.

For the character, the dictatorship started exactly fifty years ago this year (2022) so he would be 14 when it happened, not 20.

From what I've seen, most other center parties are radical left-center. I want the FPC to be radical centrist with a slight left wing bias, like Andrew Yang.

PLP is somewhat like that. It's socially liberal, supports carbon tax, digitization and a Minimum Guaranteed Income (for those below poverty line). On the other hand, its tax and regulatory policies tend to be more right-wing/classical liberal. But I still believe you would fit in.

Fair enough, i'll admit it seems silly for two parties of near identical political beliefs to run against each other.

If you'll have me, I'll gladly run as a MP in your party with my constituency being somewhere in the farming province.

A VP is a sort of a deputy leader. It's below the party president but above all other party members.

Sorry for really sort of abandoning this. School just really caught up to me in that last bit there. But most the work should be out of the way, and hopefully I can get back to things like this now, hopefully I can get myself to finish my app soon. I'll go through all the IC posts, but until could somebody please give me a quick run down of what's happened so far?

Character Application and Information Sheet

NS Nation Name:Arengin Union
Character Name: Mariano Arturo "El Halcon" Cabrera
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 57
Character Date of Birth: December 25, 1963
Character Position/Role/Job: Colonel of the 73rd Paratrooper Division "Los Halcones"
Character Country/Province of Birth: Bolívar y Carbán
Character Province of Residence: Intichiquan Federal Distirct
Character Party Affiliation: SaNa
Faceclaim: Juan Carlos "Tigre" Bonilla
Main Strengths:
  • Natural Leader: Colonel Cabrera is defined by his impressive military history. Having risen to the ranks and fought against communist guerrillas since the 80s he always excelled at taking the initiative and facing problems head on, even if it at great personal risk. As such he would be an ardent defender of Carbania's interest and her people as he would face problems instead of ignoring them.
  • Man of the Common folk: Being born in the rural side of the country, Cabrera is seen as a man of simple tastes and one who is not afraid to dwell among his fellow Carbanians even if it means exposing himself to personal risk just as he did in his military days. Cabrera can connect with those who have felt abandoned and unheard by the political elite and he will do anything to address their grievances.
  • Sin Pelos en la Lengua: Much like his talent in warfare Cabrera also has a talent for addressing the issues at their core and that usually means being critical of the brass, the political establishment and the issues he identifies as important to Carbania. He will not recoil himself to political parlor and much less any kind of fancy talk or double faced formalities, he will always face and call out his opponents no matter the time or place.
Main Weaknesses:
  • Hot-Heated: Despite being a courageous soldier Cabrera was always tempered and at times arrogant, he would lead his troops into battle but he would also cause their unnecessary deaths all out of pride and a need to prove to the brass that he was willing to do what they couldn't. He got into multiple shouting matches with superior officers which left him stagnated to the role of colonel while many of his colleagues were promoted to higher positions. If he were to be a ruler it is very likely he would not take kindly to any opposing opinion around himself and would be dead set on doing things a certain way because he believes he has earned that right after being denied the credit for his efforts for far too long.
  • Brutal History: As mentioned Cabrera would lead his paratroopers personally, if it was victory he would be beloved by his men but at many times his forces would be severely beaten by guerrillas and he would stop at nothing until they would eliminate them, he would refuse retreat and much less adopting any other strategy until there was no other choice. He earned his "Hawk" nickname due to his ability to pile both enemy and friendly bodies at little concern for the costs, all that mattered to him was victory. With this reputation in mind there are also many rumors that he personally oversaw massacres and death squad operations in the provinces of Mugre Oro and Alturas.
  • Brutish Speaker: Just like he is not afraid to speak his mind Cabrera also has a tendency to say stuff out of the bloom with little dexterity or desire to be polite, he can get into heated exchanges with anyone and even resort to personal insults at which he excels particularly well. This all has earned him his reputation as a man with no a no hold bars attitude but also as uneducated and profane, something that the media can exploit.
Biography: Mariano was born to a farming family in the great state of Bolivar Y Carban, his father was a cattle rancher who would work hard to make ends meet while his mother would work at the local market bringing Mariano at his free time from school and work at the ranch. Mariano adored the countryside, he adored the life at the ranch and attending at the relatively small Bolivariano Public School, though he struggled with dyslexia he was helped by the professors who knew his family and by the friends he had at the school. Things came crashing down with the Mandes power grab in 1972, much of the land became absorbed by big business agricultural companies and this included the Cabrera lands. Through intimidation and coercion the big farms absorbed the smaller ones at a fraction of their price but Mariano's father was stubborn as he and several local farmers grouped together to confront the Grupo Agricultor Cota company, the group faced repression by private security as well as local policemen. Mariano's father was hit by a baton in the head during a dispersal and was later bound to a wheelchair due to brain damage. Eventually Mariano's mother took the GAC's offer for selling and the family moved to the city of Puerto Plata to live his Mariano's uncles, his father would die from complications of brain hemorrhage soon after.

Leaving his rural life behind Mariano attended the Los Santos y Reino public school and his struggled with dyslexia worsened with little support from the school and he fell victim to bullying by other kids who targeted him for being from the rural zone as well as being shorter in stature and of a lower class. Mariano was constantly beaten and outnumbered and would repeatedly arrive with wounds to home, his uncle was a military man who would tolerate no weakness from his own kin and would take matters into his own hands. Mariano's uncle taught him how to box, how to defend himself and how to never back down from other people despite the odds. One day when attacked by three kids who tried to take his lunch Mariano put his lessons into action and beat up the biggest kid until he was out cold with blood all over his face, he did the same to the other kids and eventually everyone in the school knew not to mess with a Cabrera. Mariano's uncle became a second father figure to the boy, showing him pictures of his time in the military and stating how the military had become filled with weak willed individuals who could not take the necessary decisions to bring peace to Carbania. Mariano took after his uncle's teachings and became a self made man by the time he graduated school, he refused the idea of attending college mostly because he could not afford it but also because he came to believe higher education was useless as it would soften him up.

Mariano worked various odd jobs in his initial adulthood, from working as a construction worker, a repairman and even taking part of local street brawls for betting money so he could support his mother. Though it was tempting Mariano did not wish to join the military as he had no intention in being part of what his uncle believed was a weakened institution, this changed when the Communist Guerrilla began attacking indiscriminately and one of these attacks resulted in Mariano's mother having her leg amputated due to an explosion at her marketplace. This event angered Mariano to the point of near madness as he immediately signed up to the Carbanian Armed Forces at age 23. Mariano excelled at all kinds of physical assignments at boot camp and proved to be a soldier with a courageous if not aggressive dedication and initiative to lead. He was snubbed from officer school however since he lacked any kind of higher education background but he was assigned to the 73rd Infantry Division which was in charge of repelling communist guerrilla in the state of Mugre de Oro. Quickly after deployment Mariano found military life boring and lacking in action as his unit would simply patrol endless jungle and man checkpoints with no intention of seeking out the actual bad guys, he would get into trouble with his lieutenant multiple times due to his tendency of extorting passing peasants, he would be called the "Chico Rural" by several of his squadmates in a mocking tone as he was assigned to punitive duties due to apparent insubordination.

Mariano had become disheartened by life in the military, his uncle was right at it being a failed institution led by a bunch of "culeros" as he called it. This came to change when Mariano's patrol came under attack by guerrilla and his lieutenant was immediately killed by a mortar impact, when all other soldiers wanted to flee from their posts Mariano rose up took a deep breath and yelled out "Vamos pues, o son culeros!?" and charged up the hillside where the insurgents were attacking from. This act of courage caused a spur in Mariano's squadmates who followed and engaged the ambushers with ferocity as Mariano led on. Eventually Mariano's squadron was single handily responsible of 34 kills and 7 captures as well as the destruction of rebel explosive ordinance. Mariano's feat came to be known by many in the military as he was promoted to Sergeant at the ripe age of 25, he was proud of his accomplishment but he refused to be settled for just that as he would lead his squad in search and destroy missions in defiance of orders. Constantly Sergeant Cabrerar's forces would engage rebels and annihilate them, his next promotion would come after his squadron captured 84 rebels and destroyed an entire coca plantation used to provide the rebels with money. Cabrera's aggressive and effective tactics came to be noticed by the Carbanian Intelligence Services which advised by the CIA would promote him to Captain and give him an entire company to run in an experiment to see what tactics worked against the communist rebels.

Captain Cabrera continued to lead his men in the field much to the surprise of the brass as he would seek out and decimate rebel hideouts and outposts, he would not relegate himself to working at some HQ away from the fighting and much less be chained to a desk as he would personally rack up kill after kill. Cabrera would work closely with the CIS in order to improve his fighting force, he came to the conclusion that the Armed Forces had something the rebels lacked and that was proper air power, and despite the brass believing such a branch to be useless in the deep jungle he disagreed as he had studied the US efforts in Vietnam against communist forces he believed that an airborne unit using light attack choppers and planes could seek out rebel activity and jump into their vicinity for a lighting and brutal elimination. Cabrera's company would be outfitted with several HUEY helicopters and surplus C47's as he would train up his force into a paratrooper counter-insurgency elite unit. By 1995 Cabrera had become Field Major and his experimental elite airborne company had become a fully fledged Division which employed fast tactical air deployment to locate and dispatch rebel cells, the unit would come to be known as "Los Halcones" and Cabrera himself as "El Halcon" due to his infamous ability to swoop from the sky and eliminate guerrillas like a hawk would kill its prey from the sky.

Despite his prowess as a military leader and soldier Cabrera would constantly be snubbed from leading the division itself, relegated to the position of Major under several different career officers who delegated their duties to him while they engaged in constant debauchery at military clubs and political events. Cabrera came to hate what he called the "Academierdos", career officers who came from rich affluent families and who concerned themselves with luxury and privilege rather than leading the military, this had become a usual problem under Mandes and Cabrera would not shy away from speaking of it among his own men and other officers who like him had risen through the ranks by merit and not by attending some fancy institute. Cabrera's constant criticism and influence among the lower ranks was tolerated by the regime simply because he was good at his job of sniffing out and killing rebels and because everyone believed he was incapable of leading any kind of revolt due to his lack of education, influence on the political class or any general knowledge of politics. Cabrera became ever more critical in the latter years of the regime, despite the guerrillas being contained he believed the brass and the government itself lacked "Huevos" and were all a bunch of "Culeros" who would rather sit in comfy chairs and talk big with little to show for it. This eventually did earn him the ire of the higher brass in 2013 and Cabrera was officially charged with insubordination and incitement of sedition and faced a military tribunal.

The tribunal was a dramatic affair, originally planned to take place behind doors Cabrera was so highly respected by the non-commissioned officer class that thousands of officers petitioned the trial to be public. The higher brass acquiesced with the hopes of publicly shaming and discrediting the rebellious officer. The trial was nothing but an embarrassment for the Mendes government and the military Junta as a whole as Cabrera showed himself confident and throughout the event, would smile at the cameras and constantly laugh at the prosecution. He managed to slip out of the incitement charges which were the more serious ones thanks to testimonies which demonstrated he never once incited any kind of internal rebellion despite the prosecution's assertion that the Non-Commissioned Officer circles that Cabrera attended to were his efforts at organizing a power grab. The charge of insubordination was also thrown out due to Cabrera's own testimony which ascertained that he never disobeyed any orders and being critical of command's decision was in no way insubordinate as he would carry them out regardless (albeit modified). Cabrera's laid back and joking personality earned him the admiration of more in the military as well as many civilians as well, the trial lifted Cabrera to the mainstream as he would make use of social media like Youtube and Facebook to answer questions about the military, his life, and generally about what he believed worked and didn't. Through public pressure and in the wake of the death of Mendes in 2016 Cabrera was promoted to Colonel and continued to serve in the military though with much less on the field presence.

Cabrera hid from public eye in the wake of Mendes' death as he respected the man despite their disagreements and he would respect the efforts by the Junta to continue the system that Mendes had set in place. Once it became clear that the Junta system was not sustainable Cabrera saw the writing on the wall and as expected a transitional period would begin and would eventually lead to a democratic system. Cabrera continued to hide from public eye while still mingling with his fellow soldiers and other colleagues who constantly called for him to try his bid at becoming the next president of Carbania to which he dismissed with his signatory big teethed laugh. Once the election season came into fold Cabrera saw as a sea of parties began to spring up, some advocating for smart reform and others made up by communist "Chanates" as he referred to them. As the
debates continue and more candidates call for more ridiculous things and keep giving empty promises Cabrera has become disillusioned with the repertory that the Carbanian citizens have, especially with the PNPC which he personally abhors due to it being led by a career "Academierdo" and wanting to continue a failed status quo. Cabrera has decided to take matters into his own hands as he had to before as he believes that it would take a man like him to guide the country in the right direction, as such he returned to social media to the surprise of many and organized with fellow retired military friends and their families to start the Partido Salvacion Nacional or "SaNa" which is a play on words to mean "heal." Cabrera plans to announce his official candidacy late in the game but with the intention to win nonetheless.

Other Info: He makes use of social media constantly and many accuse him of being a war criminal due to his actions at multiple towns and villages in Mugre de Oro and Las Alturas that saw the death of thousands of civilians who were believed to be aiding rebels, though it cannot be confirmed if he was present in these events or that he ordered them.

Character Country/Province of Birth: Carbania, Tres Rios
Character Province of Residence: Tres Rios
Character Party Affiliation: PLP
Faceclaim: Takeshi Kaneshiro
Main Strengths:

Disciplined: Unlike other politicians, Alejandro stays on message and refuses to deviate from the script given to him. While this makes him perhaps appear unauthentic to some voters, it also means he avoids embarrassments and gaffes.

Hero to economic liberals: With opinions to the right of the party on economics and strong support for economic liberalism, he has become popular among those who support neoliberal economics in Carbania.

Good looks: His good looks have certainly helped him stand out from the average MP, especially among women voters.

Main Weaknesses:

Japanese-Carbanian: While Alejandro was born in Carbania and thinks of himself as a Carbanian, some still do not accept him because he does not look like a 'normal Carbanian' would.

Neoliberal: While his support of economic liberalism has made him a hero to the neoliberal right, it has also made him unpopular among left-wing and even social democratic or right-wing populist voters.

Unauthentic: Alejandro sticks to the script and is always prepared when he is interviewed or on a debate stage. This makes him look unauthentic to many voters.

Biography:

Alejandro was born on 1st March 1990. His grandparents from his father's side were natives of Kumamoto, Japan, who migrated to Carbania in 1934. His maternal grandparents migrated to Carbania from Spain in 1938. His father is a business owner who owns a number of sea resorts and restaurants in Tres Rios, mainly marketed towards foreign tourists. His mother helps run the family businesses. Alejandro was an adequate student at school, neither excelling but nor failing.

In 2008 he began studying economics at a local university. He graduated in 2012 and pursued a major in Tourism Management, which he got in 2015. That same year, he began working at the family business and helped both in advertisement and management of the sea resorts, managing to attract a far greater number of tourists than before. At the same time, he would author at a local newspaper, expressing his liberal economic views and opposing increasing calls for greater state intervention in the economy.

Initially he did not bother with politics, but PLP recruited him to stand as a candidate for the Tres Rio party list. His disciplined messaging and ability to stick to the script impressed Alan Castañeda. After Alejandro was elected MP, he was thus offered the position of Press Secretary. Castañeda privately explained to him that the results of the party in the legislative elections had been rather disappointing and that a big reason for this disappointment was the lack of a coherent and disciplined message on the part of the PLP.

Alejandro, with his discipline and good looks, now has the task to rebrand the party.

He is single, but owns two cats.
