IC Synopsis
Image

The year is 1969.

The Tet offensive was ended 1 year ago, and southern forces have pushed the North Vietnamese back up into the northern regions of Vietnam, securing the Allied positions over the key strategic locations in Da Nang and Hue City. However the forces of Communist North Vietnam are far from defeated, and their soldiers and irregulars are back to engaging in a guerrilla war against forces allied with South Vietnam.

In this RP you are in the Quang Nam region of Vietnam, 30 miles west of Da Nang. The Southern Forces are stationed at Firebase Whitworth, with the main task of providing advance warning to Da Nang to PAVN or NLF movements, and to destroy any North Vietnamese forces they can. While Whitworth is a US Army base, that doesn't meant that only US Army soldiers are in the base. Forces from ARVN, Australia, and New Zealand are present on the base, however the disposition of these forces is much smaller, mostly being Special Forces units such as SASR or the ARVN Rangers. Furthermore, there is a depleted attachment of M113 APCs. While new recruits are beginning to fill in the ranks following the Tet Offensive, many of the forces at Whitworth suffered moderate casualties, and as such no unit is full strength.

Whitworth, being isolated and surrounded by possible enemy forces, is inaccessible by road. Therefore, UH-1 helicopters will fly in twice a week to supply the firebase. The flight from Da Nang to Whitworth is reasonably safe as the USAF presence in the region makes North Vietnamese fighters unwilling to go into the region to harass US air assets.

The Northern forces in the region comprise of 1 Battalion of PAVN infantrymen, 1 NLF Battalion and 1 artillery battery that are currently causing the hairs of all firebase commanders in Quang Nam to turn grey. Their objective is not to push for Da Nang, but rather to harass Southern forces in the region, which they have been doing rather effectively.

However their opponents are not the only thing that the soldiers in Quang Nam have to fear, for there is something in the jungles with them. Something not human. The soldiers in the region have carried on fighting each other, unaware of the presence of this supernatural threat, but for months now it has been stalking them. Lurking in the jungle, waiting for the time to strike as it grows ever hungrier, and that time is soon to come.

1. As OP my word is law, and any co-ops are an extension of my power
2. You are able to debate with myself or a co-op, however our decisions will be final
3. Keep this non-political, I don't want political arguments clogging up the OOC, we're here to have fun, not be Ben Shapiro
4. Be realistic, while this is a horror RP, you still can't take 3 bullets to the chest and keep fighting
5. In regards to language, keep swearing to dialogue only, and use proper grammar when not engaging in dialogue
6. No post length requirement but have your post advance something, whether it be dialogue, combat, or general action.
7. Treat other players with civility, openly racist, sexist, or homophobic remarks will result in an instant ban
8. Every scenario in this RP will be a challenge, and failure to properly adapt to them may result in injury or death of characters.
9. Have fun!

Name: "My friends call me Critter. On my tags, it's Lawrence Mason.

Age: "Twenty-four."
Army: "I volunteered for the Army when I turned eighteen. White trash tends to get drafted first, so I jumped the gun before the draft board could eat me up."
Rank: "Corporal, as of two weeks ago. Bumped down from Sergeant."
Time Spent in Combat: "I've done two tours so far with First Cav. Primarily with the Lurp."
Weapons: "The A1 is my primary weapon. Shit-ass plastic gun, but it shoots straight. Instead of a .45, I carry an S&W M19, as well as a Colt Detective I bought off a street peddler in Saigon. Good holdout gun. In my M113, there's an Uzi - black market like the Detective. Also in there is an M12 shotgun sawed down for comfort, a deer rifle chambered for .270, and an M2. Those are general purpose for me and anyone else in the 113. Really though, you will see me carrying the A1 most of all. In terms of hitting weapons, I pack a combat knife and a hatchet, as well as a switchblade and one set of brass knuckles."
M.O.S (What do you do?): "Nineteen Delta; Cav Scout. What's there for me to do around here?"
General Personality Description:
Biography (2 paragraphs at least): "If you talk to enough of the guys around here, you get usually two different takes on what brought them into the service. Either you volunteered, or your number got called up. That said, everyone has a different story. Whitworth is an anomaly; there are a lot of big-name guys. Dudes who have done a thing, anything to get noticed by the other grunts. You got a lot of 'motivated' guys, the ones born in the Red, White and Blue. Their daddy served, and probably so did their grandaddy, so it runs in the blood. You're born, and immediately fed stories about how your family has been the bedrock of American freedom."

"My whole family served - only difference is every single male in the family joined on the simple virtue that they had nowhere else to go. My grandfather fought in the Civil War, mostly as a Buffalo. That's the name given to it by the Lost Causers. After rhe war, he spent the next sixty years living in the holler, afraid that some Johnny Rebs would remember him from the war and go after their revenge. Married my grandmother when she was eighteen, and they popped out six sons and two daughters. All six sons fought in the Second World War - and four didn'tcome back. My dad fought everywhere from Guadalcanal to Okinawa, and came back without a leg. Any time he talked about the war, it was when he was deep in a bottle."

"Where I grew up was not a happy place, despite the abundance of jobs. I joined the Army so that I could get away from that shit. Did I think I would end up rich overnight? The Army pays shit, and I knew that even then.

M.O.S: M113A1 Track Commander
General Personality Description: Often comes off as lackadaisical or aloof to the horrors of war, Weiz seems to live in his own world shared only with his Driver, PFC Johnson. The pair rely on each other heavily and are rarely seen far apart. Weiz is a heavy drinker though he typically keeps it to a light buzz so as to stay functional when on-duty, his part in the fighting of the Tet Offensive during his first months in country and the death of his first TC likely affected him deeply.
Biography: Weiz's story is one you can find across the US military: his number got called and he chose service over jail time. At first Weiz thought he got lucky, all around him guys were getting sent into the marines but him? US Army. With fingers crossed he hoped he was going to be some clerk in Saigon who could ride out the war in a nice air-conditioned room. Until he got assigned to become an M113 crewman. Still not so bad, right? A nice armored box, couldn't be too bad. The training was cake too, he was always a good driver and it only took a bit to get used to using sticks before he got real good at it, instructors even said he was a natural, this wasn't going to be so bad. Then he got to Vietnam.

The M113 was fine, he even got assigned to a newer model that took diesel, which so far as he could tell from the manual was an upgrade, but when his first job in-country was to clean the last drivers brains out of the forward compartment, Weiz started to have second thoughts. They were forward deployed, the M113 had a bad habit of losing its floor when it ran over a mine, and snipers were looking to take out armored crew any chance they could but so long as he stayed low and the infantry did their job it was all going to be fine. Weiz was disappointed when the hellhole that was Vietnam proved him wrong again. Tet, a wonderful reprieve from the fighting. Weiz couldn't tell you what it was even about, but for a week everyone stopped shooting at each other, it was Christmas in January for all he cared and he spent all that month looking forward to it while he sat holed up in a little base near Huế. Huế. That was rough. Before they had even rolled in, motorpool had strapped logs to the front and sides of their M113, Bill LBJ for damages, and they still took hits hard enough to scratch the paint. Luckily they mostly worked as an ambulance getting wounded infantry and Marines back to one of the field hospitals set up in the safer areas outside the city, which was messy but safe enough work. It seemed sweet until they were assigned to assist the main assault against the Citadel. The tankers got hit the hardest out of all the armor, Weiz had to admit, but even though Bill was never on point, the M113 still took its share of hits, so many that it got a bit of a reputation for being indestructible and it got to the point that infantry would get into arguments about who got to ride with Weiz. Shame that Bill's crew wasn't as lucky as he was. Weiz's TC went down a few days before Huế ended, a sniper took the top of his head off the one time he get on the M2 to put down covering fire.

Weiz got a replacement TC for a while, but they were eventually mustered out and Bill was left with only a single crewman yet again by the start of 1969. Someone somewhere decided it was easier to find a new driver than a new TC so Weiz got his replacement, PFC Eugene Johnson, and promotion to Corporal. Their Company was reassigned not long after to be Firebase Whitworth's tracks and ever since it's been back to it.

Knightwatch is a M54 5ton 6x6 truck that has been converted into a gun truck. This means that the cab
and the bed of the truck have been stripped and Pieces of Quarter inch steel welded into place to provide the crew with cover. The Bed has two walls of quarter inch steel welded in place with just enough space to place spare tires between them. The Drivers cab has been stripped and replaced with Half inch steel for the side walls, doors, and around the windows. The Truck itself is painted black, like all other gun trucks, with the name Knightwatch painted in Blue Letters with Sliver outlines to make the name pop. The weapons layout is 2 M2HBs near the front of the box(one on the front left corner, and one on the front right corner), two M134 miniguns (One half way down the left side of the box, and one half way down the the right side), with a Twin mounted M2HB that has been stolen from some PBRs from the US Navy, on the rear section. M.O.S (What do you do?): Gun Truck NCOIC
General Personality Description: Wesley is known to be a serious person, but is willing to put his life and career on the line for those under his command
Biography (2 paragraphs at least): Born to a farming family in Kansas City, KS, Wesley had a rough time growing up, his family a poor farming family, his parents barely able to provide for Wesley and his 8 siblings, and so they was made fun of by the locals This urged him to become one of the smartest and most athletic kids in his school, becoming a highly prized Three sport athlete, winning state championships in Football, and Baseball, while falling short in Basketball. Despite this, locals still made fun of him for his family's stature in life. Upon graduating high school and being the oldest of nine kids, Wesley was giving a high draft, and his number was called before he could find a job or enlist.

Wesley was trained as a transportation specialist, and not long after training he was deployed to Vietnam, where he started out as a ammo truck driver, and then a fuel truck driver. He someone survived that deployment, and went to Be based in South Korea for a couple years, before returning once again to Vietnam. He spent 3 months in Nam as a driver for a Convoy commander before a mine took out His jeep. He was flown to DC to Bethesda Hospital, and 6 months later, Wesley found himself back in Vietnam but this time He was giving command of a Gun truck called Knightwatch, called that not because of Wesley's last name but because the Original builder thought it sounded badass. When Wesley first took over the gun truck, PVT. Ramirez and two others made up the crew but the was killed when a mortar exploded over the gun truck, and one of the guys was positioned enough to protect Ramirez from the blast and shrapnel by almost complete accident. SPC. Lombardi, and PVT. Johnson were added after a few days when a call for volunteers went out. A few weeks later They helped lead and protect a convoy to FB Whitworth as part of its base defense and patrolling the roads and routes near the fire base, and have quickly made a name for themselves among the Allied forces and enemy forces.

Age: 25
Army: Australian Army
Rank: Sergeant
Time Spent in 'Nam: 2 Years (1966, 1969)
Weapons:
L1A1 SLR modified to be fully automatic using an L2A1 Lower Receiver.
Browning Hi-Power
Machete
M.O.S (What do you do?): SASR - Long Range Reconnaissance
General Personality Description: Henry is known for his brutality, often known for going out of his way to kill "Those Commie fucks", however, he shows a soft side, playing guitar in his spare time and generally tending to be a sociable person.
Biography (2 paragraphs at least):

Born July 3rd, 1944, in Adelaide, Australia, Henry Smith was born in the ass end of World War Two. His family was relatively wealthy, and he received a high-end education. From his youth, he idolized soldiers, specifically paratroopers, his interests advancing from playing with toy soldiers to shooting BB Guns at his friends, once breaking his leg "HALOing" from the 2nd floor window of his house with an umbrella as a parachute. He became a star Rugby player in his youth, playing Blindside Flanker for his Secondary School and earning an offer from a local professional Rugby team. However, his idolization of soldiers prevailed, and he enlisted in 1962.

By 1964, he had passed selection for SASR, and was assigned to 3 Squadron. He saw his first action when he was deployed to Vietnam in 1966. His experience jolted his romanticized expectations of war from his head, and he quickly became envious of Squadrons 1 and 2, who were "Living the Good Life" in Borneo. He became experienced in Long Range Recon Patrols, and adapted to the Vietnamese environment. Chief among these adaptations was an increase in brutality, he began double and triple tapping hostiles, not to ensure death, but to make it just that more painful. His brutality only became worse after after VC ambush killed half of his squad, including one of his best friends. He often plunged combat knives into his dead foes, pinning them to trees and leaving it there as a warning to their comrades. During this stretch, he gained the callsign, "Excess", for his excessive use of force against hostiles. In February 1967, his unit was recalled from Vietnam, cycled out for the 1st Squadron SASR.

He spent his time between then and his second deployment with family when he could, and picked up a hobby in guitar. Many of his major problems caused by the war lessened, and he became a much more social person, opening up and going to a professional therapist. However, in 1969, his unit was called back in-country, and he followed. His brutality quickly regained shape, though in a lesser form from his first tour. As opposed to the disrespect and rage-induced violence he exhibited in his first-tour, his actions were much more cold and calculated. He would stop the patrols he now commanded at the slightest sound of foreign movement, looking for Viet Cong or PAVN fighters among the treelines, sometimes even going as far as diverting patrols from their original route solely for the purpose of hunting VC and PAVN combatants. While this consistently annoyed the men under his command, it saved considerable amounts of SASR lives, and helped fill his need for VC blood.

Name: Arthur Ferry

Age: 26
Army: New Zealand Army
Rank: Staff Sergeant
Time Spent in 'Nam: 1 year (1968-1969)
Weapons:
L1A1 SLR, Browning Hi-Power, L1A1 Bayonet, M3 Fighting Knife
M.O.S (What do you do?): New Zealand Special Air Service Regiment - 1 Ranger Squadron - 4 Troop - Long Range Reconnaissance
General Personality Description: Despite the position of an elite member of the SASR, Arthur has managed to keep his light-hearted and fair weathered mindset with him through his life. Throughout his life, Arthur has been an easy man to get along with, usually choosing to form his opinions around the group or keeping his mouth shut on matters he has no business getting involved in.
Biography (2 paragraphs at least):

Arthur Ferry, born August 14, 1943 to Samuel and Abigail Ferry at Auckland City Hospital at 2:46 AM. Raised by a metal worker and nurse, the Ferrys were far from rich but were able to afford their son certain pleasures that other less fortunate children were denied, as he was able to attend better schools in his youngest years. By the time he was 12, Arthur had been attending Dairy Flat School where he played in the school's rugby and football teams, excelling in the sports and becoming very interested in exercise, such as running. In early 1956, Arthur, along with his father and mother attended a military parade in Auckland, showcasing the fluid and disciplined movements of both the New Zealander and Australian armies. Arthur couldn't help but hide his smile as he watched the soldiers stomp their feet in perfect rhythm as hulking machines of war muscled past the crowds, flags waving atop their hulls as music blared from military bands that followed close behind. It was awe-inspiring for the young Arthur as he pulled on his mother's polkadot dress, jumping and pointing. He exclaimed that he would stop at nothing to "become one of the soldier-boys." During his schooling hours, Arthur and his friends played war, using sticks as rifles, stones as grenades, dodging from cover to cover, poking up to unleash a heavy volley of imaginary rounds at their hidden enemies, ordering their fellow wolves of war to chuck a grenade. He even went so far as to use his allowance money from chores to purchase a Kiwi flag, that he tied to a long stick and carried it into battle.

By the age of 18, Arthur enlisted in the New Zealand Army. By 1963, Arthur had successfully passed the requirements to join the Special Air Service Regiment and was promptly assigned to the 1st Ranger Squadron. In February 1965, Arthur Ferry was assigned to 1 Detachment under the command of Major W.J.D. Meldrum and were deployed to Malaysia. After a period of training alongside members of the British 22nd Special Air Service Regiment, Arthur and his detachment were deployed to patrols. Arthur remained in Malaysia until 11 October 1965, where they were relieved by 2 Detachment. Arthur Ferry was returned to New Zealand, where he received a much needed break and returned to Auckland. There, he met Priscilla Lynch. The brown-haired, hazel eyed Australian immediately caught Arthur's eye at the local pub where he and his friends were frequent to visit. Nervously, Arthur approached the woman, who was surrounded by friends of her own, and asked for a dance. Though she left him in a moment of awkward silence, she eventually accepted. The two danced for hours, even after most of their friends had left and when he dropped her off at her apartment that night, Arthur believed it was love. Between training maneuvers for the SASR and weekly dates with Priscilla Lynch, Arthur was the happiest he'd ever been. By August 1966, Arthur Ferry married Priscilla.

From 1967 to early 1968, Arthur watched Australian Army forces deploy to Vietnam and before long, New Zealand was called to service. By November 1968, Arthur was assigned to 4 Troop from 1 Ranger Squadron and shipped out to Vietnam, leaving behind his young wife Priscilla, who was now four months pregnant. Despite his Troop of 26 men deploying with the 1st Australian Task Force at Nui Dat, Staff Sergeant Ferry was the only one of his group to be transferred to assist 3 Squadron of the SASR at Firebase Whitworth, by order of Captain Terry Culley.

Age: 32
Army: US Army
Rank: Staff sergeant
Time Spent in Combat: One year (1968-1969)
Weapons:
Ithaca M37
M1911A1
M3 fighting knife
M.O.S (What do you do?): Long-range reconnaissance patrol; H Company, 75th Infantry Regiment (Ranger)
General Personality Description: Toporek is quiet, to say the least. Perhaps that's for the best, after all, he is serving in an LRRP regiment. He's been noted to be very easy to cooperate with and, at times, is known to sympathize with the Vietnamese population. He's only really sociable after he's gotten shitfaced drunk, or when sharing a couple of cigarettes with his fellow soldiers.
Biography (2 paragraphs at least):

Michael Toporek, was born on 02 January 1937 to Polish emigrants in the hamlet of North Babylon, on Long Island. His father, Klemens Toporek, had previously served in the Polish-Soviet War and his mother, Julia Samonow (1912-1959), was the daughter of a poor fisherman. They lived a relatively comfortable life, staying in a moderately-sized house and enjoying traditional family values for the first four years of Michael's life.

From an early age, Michael always had an interest in the military. His father had served in the Pacific Theatre and came home with many a distinction, and a fair share of injuries. Once he graduated from the North Babylon High School in 1955, he passed up a scholarship at Hofstra University and joined the US Army. He partook in the American intervention in the Malayan Emergency, and was injured by communist guerillas a few months after he arrived, being discharged not too long after.

He was recalled to action in 1968, serving in the H Company of the 75th Infantry Regiment, and was assigned to Firebase Whitworth in 1969.

Name: Cao Phúc Ðiền
Image

Age: 24
Army: PAVN
Rank: 2nd Lieutenant
Time Spent in Combat: 3 years
Weapons: Type 56-1, TT-33.
M.O.S: Infantry Officer
General Personality Description: Hardened yet cares for the men under his command. More interested in securing Vietnamese independence from foreign influence rather than being a true believer in communism. Generally a pretty easy going guy, but in battle he's steady as a rock and broadcasts confidence to all around him.
Biography (2 paragraphs at least): Cao Phúc Ðiền was born in Hue city to a factory worker and seamstress for parents. They were often busy many hours of the day, and were also cripplingly poor. Ripe for communist sentiment to sprout. Pham's father took heavily to Ho Chi Minh's ideas, and the family would move to Hanoi in early 1952. Cao's father would leave to fight the French in Vietnam's struggle against the French Colonial Empire, and he would never come home, forever buried in the jungles of his native country.

After the death of his father Cao took a more active role in his country's struggle for independence. He would be sent to China to be trained by the PLA on how to fight, but more importantly how to lead. After completing his PLA training he arrived back in Vietnam to carry on the fight that his father had been a part of. However the French had already been defeated, and now the fight was against the southern half of Vietnam. Cao deployed to combat in 1966, engaging in primarily skirmishes with American forces, where he quickly adapted to the battlefield.

His early career with the PAVN was marked by daring attacks and midnight ambushes that resulted in him being withdrawn from his area of operation for drawing a little too much attention too close to the Ho Chi Minh Trail. However when the TET Offensive began, Cao was right back in the action, personally being apart of the attack on Hue city in phase one. It was a strange experience for the young man to be attacking the city which he had been born in, yet he carried on. In the months after Cao retreated with his depleted unit into the depths of the Quang Nam jungle, beginning the process of engaging Southern forces in guerrilla warfare.

Name: Mạc Hòa Thái

Age: 25
Army: ARVN
Rank: 1st Lieutenant
Time Spent in Combat: 5 years
Weapons: M16A1, M1928, M1917,
M.O.S (What do you do?): ARVN Ranger Officer
General Personality Description: Soft-spoken yet projects a hard and steely personality. Cares for his men, yet is not known for his mercy towards PAVN or NLF fighters. Has a mild disdain for his ARVN regular colleagues, preferring to fight with American or ANZAC forces.
Biography (2 paragraphs at least): Mạc Hòa Thái was born in Saigon, 1944. His father was a Vietnamese Colonial Soldier, who had been captured by the Japanese during the invasion of Vietnam. His mother worked as a secretary at the French Colonial Office, and as such was closely tied to French Colonial rule. For the young boy this meant growing up learning how to speak French, mainly with his French stepfather. Unfortunately the cruel hands of the universe would give Mac just enough time to treat his stepfather as a father figure before he was killed in the fighting against the communist rebels of the North. This instilled a deep hatred of communists in the young Mac, who later would go to serve in ARVN to fight.

Upon completing his officer candidacy training Mac would immediately go into Ranger training, hoping to join the elite group of the ARVN military. After months of grueling training he was in combat. Immediately he began to take his pent up anger out on any VC or NVA he came across, regularly putting down wounded combatants and chasing down those who tried to flee. He gained a reputation within both the North and South Vietnamese militaries and allies for his aggression and fighting spirit. Something that set him apart from other ARVN soldiers. Following the Tet Offensive Mac found himself at an American Firebase after chasing a NLF unit all the way from Da Nang.

The Army pays shit, and I knew that even then.

and the bed of the truck have been stripped and Pieces of Quarter inch steel welded into place to provide the crew with cover.
