Holds up hand.

But, I'm sure we're not here to argue the history of the Great Depression. We can probably disagree on more substantial matters. Suffice it to say: I am opposed to the federal government bailing out failing businesses, or even causing the moral hazard of sending a signal to businesses that they can freely fail and expect taxpayers to bail them out.

Senator, the US rescinded Libya's designation as a sponsor of state terrorism last year. Yemen has been an admittedly not always faithful partner in the Global War on Terror. I have no interest in speculating on our allies turning against us nor any plans, as President, to pursue a course that would cause them to do so.

But constraining wasteful spending is actually vital to ensuring our military have the means at their disposal to protect our freedoms. We are spending half a billion dollars on transport aircraft that don't meet DoD specs. The GAO warned Congress not to fund the F-22A program. Instead, Congress poured more funding into this wasteful boondoggle. Hawaii and Alaska have earmarked tens, hundreds of millions apiece in defense spending projects that do nothing to protect our country.

I would never compromise necessary operation resources to defend America, but (realizing his time is running out, hurriedly says) that does not mean approving every wasteful earmark in the Congressional pork butt.

Yes. The Balanced Budget Amendment contains a specific waiver for times of military conflict. That does not mean we should allow wasteful military spending under the shaky guise of "national security". Economies can be made without sacrificing security.

"Exactly. This is what I'm talking about. The Balanced Budget Amendment is intelligent, flexible and pragmatic, whereas Governor Calalo's pledge to never raise the debt ceiling is stupid, inflexible and demagogic, dismissing the realities of the modern world. It is a frankly populist manouevre which is nothing more than pandering to a conservative base which will no doubt scrutinise her liberal record of handouts, financial misconduct and liberal social policies such as opposition to the death penalty."
This is Emazia's puppet, will be main soon.

Ruskie, you're getting desperate. My record isn't perfect, and I've never claimed that. I was saddled with the most Democratic legislature in the nation, one with a veto-proof supermajority. In each of those cases, I either tried to stop the law from passing, or had to compromise to get one of my goals passed. My governorship has been as conservative as possible, and has created an era of unprecedented prosperity in Hawai'i. But by all means, let's compare records. Do you want to start before or after you rode daddy's coattails to the Senate?

"I'm with Governor Calalo on this," Cassie interjected. "She doesn't want the system socialized, nationalized, or anything like that. She wants every American covered under a free-market system with prices that are affordable to the poorest among us. We have a system for that, Senator Helms, and in Massachusetts, it is known as (Romney)care. If we want to talk about failures in healthcare, then we need to talk about how Governor Calalovetoed a bill that would have required all hospitals in Hawaii to provide emergency contraception to rape victims. "Governor Eriksen, you understand. When you were Governor, Oklahoma was still a majority Democratic state. In those situations, compromise and collaboration are essential. We both managed to accomplish major things as Governors with, frankly, hostile legislatures.

I served in Vietnam, got my honours - more than many men could do - then started by long fight for religious freedom. I was there with Jerry Falwell, I was there with Ronald Reagan. I fought for my country and its freedom not just abroad, but here at home too. I fought to save unborn lives, I fought to stop rapists from getting into our schools and I fought to ensure that Christianity in this country stood strong. And where were you? For all your bluster, you were in a city where the crime rate started to rise as soon as you came in and fell as soon as you left.

While, later on, as Governor, you were out there giving handouts to bums, when I had my show on TV I went out and did charity, both abroad and at home. I went to Africa, I went to South America, I helped the sick and the ill, and I helped them here too. The charities of this world help people far more than some damn welfare scheme like you put up as Governor of Hawaii. I preached the word of God, denouncing criminals while helping the people who fought them, and I did my best to bring together the nation when 9/11 happened.

That's my record, and I stand by all of that, every single thing. I've nothing to be ashamed of. I fought for tax cuts in the Senate, and stood up to North Korea and Belarus while you were out there nominating crooks to government positions, abusing your power to hire unelected bureaucrats - unelected bureaucrats whose negligence, which, for the record is your responsibility, killed 7 people - and presided over rising gas prices, gas prices higher than any other part of the country.

Talk about my record, Ms. Calalo, all you want, but at least I can stand by it. You, on the other hand, whenever I stop speaking, will probably start flip-flopping so hard that I reckon you should drop out of the race and try to become CEO of IHOP instead."

Lies, Damned Lies, and No Statistics

Postby New Luciannova » Wed Apr 13, 2022 3:30 pm

I'm not sure if Calalo and Helms are aware they’re lying.
I'm going to spell this out for them. I have opposed more spending on a per dollar basis than anyone on this stage. I have never voted to raise the debt ceiling or raise taxes once. Increasing debt and spending our way out of a deficit results in future taxation and inflation. I have the only plan that will make immediate and defining cuts to the deficit such that your taxes either directly through tax hikes or indirectly, through inflation will not strike your home. I have the blood of the lamb.
The war on drugs should be re-evaluated to view drug abuse and addiction as a public health problem. Cush and Calalo think they know what's best for you. They don't trust you to make your own decisions about your health. They think you are going to get stoned 24-7 if you don't submit to their will.
The war on drugs has failed. Now I've found a way to stop spending money on that problem, reform how we handle drug laws, and in a way that would shrink the deficit to keep spending and your taxes down. I don't see anyone else who has any plan that the evidence shows us will work on handling the scourge of drug abuse, just like nobody here has a plan to cut spending.
Chicanery in the debates to match the chicanery of your policies.

Meanwhile, you took your Dad's Senate seat and used his name to get your name on as many bills as possible. Tell me one thing you achieved on your own, without the Helms name behind you.

"I fought for this country before my father was a Senator. If you don't think that's an achievement, then just ask any other serviceman or woman. I could've lived a comfortable life back home, but I didn't. I chose to fight. And I don't regret it at all.

But, just like my father, I got into my office after speaking to the people on the issues that matter, rather than failing my job as Hawaii's prosecutor as the crime rate still rolled up and up."

If being on television was all that you had to do to be President, Tripp Baylor would be in the Oval Office. But I'm glad that you think that it qualifies you to be in office because Daddy was a Senator and he helped you make your way up in the world.

My father wasn't a Senator, Ruskie. He was a lawyer, and he was a Republican in Hawai'i. He taught me a great deal of lessons that I've carried with me all through my carrier--lessons about how to compromise and communicate and collaborate, even when you vehemently disagree. I have made mistakes as Governor. My record isn't manufactured to be spotless. I've made tough choices, I've fought hard fights, and I've had my share of screw ups. I'll admit that.

Senator, I'm very thankful for your service. You fought bravely and with honor, and you should be commended for it. Unfortunately, though, you're also a liar and in denial about how you inherited your Senate seat from your Dad. When was the last time a freshman Senator was chosen to be the second-highest ranking in the chamber? Would you have been given the opportunity to put your name on all those bills other people wrote without the Helms name? I don't think so.

While I was prosecutor of Honolulu, I slashed organized crime and government corruption. I personally prosecuted the most deadly mass shooting in Hawai'i history. And I rooted out dirty cops and corrupt officials en masse. But please, Senator, keep lying and obfuscating.

"The first majority whip was actually made majority whip as soon as he was sworn into the Senate, whereas I served 4 years beforehand. Other examples include Leverett Saltonstall, James Wadworth and Robert Griffin. It's pretty common, actually. You would be very surprised. I served more time in the Senate prior to being made whip than all of those men, yet I am still accused of nepotism. It seems very petty to me, in all honesty.

But all your petty attacks disguise the true, policy-based attacks, which is that, on an objective basis, the crime rate did rise while you were prosecutor, while as Governor your negligence lead to people losing their lives and nominated crooks to government positions all while abusing your power and giving out handouts to bums."

"Senator, do you understand what a prosecutor does? My ability to deter crime was fairly limited--but I did my best. I was working with a hostile city council, a hostile mayor, an ineffectual and hostile Governor and legislature. I was constantly fighting against their soft-on-crime policies and liberal ideas, trying to keep Honolulu safe, and I was fighting alone. Our state economy was in freefall, the crime rate was climbing and climbing, and as Prosecutor,my job was simply to prosecute. And I did. We didn't take plea deals, didn't make bargains. We pursued the harshest sentence allowed by state law, and we always fought to put away the scumbags who terrorized the city."

Olivia leaned forward, fixing Helms with a point and a stern look. "I fought day and night to clean that city of organized crime, to clear away the rampant corruption and waste, to make our streets safer. I held mothers and wives and husbands while they sobbed because a madman murdered their loved ones. I fought every day and I fought alone and I made more progress than had been made for years, and now you have the audacity to tell me I didn't do well enough for you? I'd love to see how you would've done, Ruskie.

"There is absolutely no need to yell just because I have offered genuine and policy-based criticism of your performance as prosecutor. It is sad to see how you are resorting to this weak, emotional stropping when faced with actual criticism of what you have done. Mighty rhetoric may allow you to grandstand on this stage and stroke your ego, but it did not save the lives of those who died because of a massive increase in the homicide rate."

Senator, how fragile are you that any response to your overblown and dishonest attacks is so hurtful? I worked within the law and within the confines of my job to do as best I could.

"Let me simplify this, just for the benefit of the American people. You want to give out free crack pipes and think that'll somehow reduce the use of crack. What nonsense. And you talk about us not having plans to cut spending, well, we've all talked about that. I've said that I'll focus on welfare reform and on cutting red tape. It is not me who is lying, it is not me who is perpetuating chicanery, it is not me who is deceiving the American people, it is you who is doing all of these things, and your accusations of lying are nothing but dust in the wind, wiped out by the arms of truth. I will not be slandered, and I will not be degraded, for you may spit your lies towards me but I shall still not move a step back, because I know that I am in the right. You may think that you are Moses upon the mountain, Lincoln at Gettysburg, thinking that you are eminent and brilliant in saying what you have to say, but despite your hubris you are simply the Platonic form of a pot calling the kettle a pot, a soapbox demagogue and a crank only afforded an opportunity to speak here through sheer bluster. I ask you a question: how many more? How many more times do you have to be humiliated here? How many more times do you have to be told that you are wrong to finally accept common decency, to finally accept what is merely common sense, if you were to actually listen, rather than continue making up these lies and feigning some victimhood like a common medieval beggar putting soap in his mouth to attract sympathy and attention?"

I missed where I advocated handing out crack pipes. If anyone is smoking crack, it’s you, Senator. I recommend switching to decaf lest you blow a fuse. I’m not intimidated by you or your petulant ranting. I am afraid, however of having someone with your hot-headed rage with his finger on the button. My wife’s a clinical psychologist, if you don’t like talking to me, I strongly encourage you to talk to her. She can help you.
