Character Description
    Name: Mark West/Night Wolf
    Gender: male
    Age: 28
    Appearance:

Superpowers!
Skills and Powers:
3 points- Armor. The Nightwolf titanium armor will protect Mark from almost any impact, so gunshots, car impacts and concrete walls are no biggie. It has it's weaknesses though, it's not invincible.

2 points- Agility/Stealth. The suit has jumping boots in the legs, making it possible for him to jump over walls up to 8 feet. The hands and feet of the suit have a synthetic gecko-like material, which allows him to climb up walls. The suit is also programmed with acrobatic maneuvers he uses to run to or from places. The same exoskeleton can be programmed with hand-to-hand martial arts moves, but Mark once tried this and pulled a hamstring, so he sticks to acrobatics. The suit is designed to blend in with the backdrop of urban nighttime, which is Nightwolf's time of activity.

2 points- Weaponry. And a lot of it. Mark isn't a gun nut, and since he tries to keep his identity secret, he can't register a firearm. So his main weapons are his tungsten retractable claws, a flamethrower, and last but not least, his shield, which is concealed in his arm.

1 point- Night vision. The suit's helmet has a heads up display primarily used for night vision and spotting targets. He can also check traffic, news bulletins, listen to police scanners and things using this. Think of the heads up displays you see in video games, that kind of stuff. He can't use it to see through things though.

Backstory:
Mark West was born into an ordinary family, and from an early age demonstrated a knack for building gadgets. He loved watching superhero movies, especially Batman. His other interest was dogs, especially wolves. His parents divorced when he was 16, and this had a profound effect on Mark. With his family life ripped apart, he focused on his studies. This allowed him to graduate high school as the valedictorian of his class.

He went off to college in New Cottington on a scholarship. After graduating, he worked at a company that supplied manufacturers with parts and materials. Bored with this, he decided to start a YouTube channel where he shows DIY builds, engineering projects, hacks and things like that. His YouTube carrer blossomed, and he now does that full-time, doing videos like those of Mark Rober and Colin Furze. He made enough money to buy an apartment in New Cottington, or at least half of it. So he found a roommate, Lana Ericson. Lana is a fitness trainer working at the studio gym on the street level of the building with her apartment. She and Mark are platonic friends, simply sharing an apartment, but Mark has feelings for her, which he keeps secret from Lana, for fear that they are not reciprocated. Lana does not know Mark is Nightwolf, but she does suspect he is up to something when he sneaks out at night. Mark wants to tell her, since he feels that between his secret vigilantism, and his true feelings for her, he is keeping too many secrets from Lana. But he still hesitates.

In 2017, a number of things happened that spurred Mark to become a vigilante. First, a friend of his was killed, and the killer never caught. Second, a superhero had just been involved in a very public scandal. And lastly, Mark had just finished a prototype power suit for a video. Rather than show off his invention, he decided to create his own weaponized armor suit to serve as a vigilante. The Mk. I suit was bulky, badly armored, and the helmet was a military helmet with a bulky night vision set sticking out. Still Mark's face was covered. One night, however, the night vision goggles fell off, and Mark's face was visible. At the moment he was in a fight inside a store, so he used the first thing he saw: the helmet from a wolf costume. And so, the Nightwolf was born. By the Mk. II, Mark had added claws, and a better, more protective, more wolf-looking helmet.

By 2022, Mark's Nightwolf 3.0 suit is his best suit yet. This was around the time the Sentinels reached out to Nightwolf about joining. Initially apprehensive, Mark's opinion changed after speaking to Lana. Of course, he framed he situation as if he was being asked to consult on a space project by a private space company, to avoid telling her he is Nightwolf. He is about to start his first day (or night rather) as a member of the Sentinels. He is excited, about the opportunity to do more good, but is also nervous about working with others, since he is a lone wolf (no pun intended). He says he is not jealous of those with natural/built-in superpowers, but he kind of is. This may fuel a rivalry with them. He thought his identity was hidden from the Sentinels, but apparently, the government knows a lot.

The fact that he is very protective of his true identity, and will not remove his helmet, adds to the whole air of mystery that surrounds him. He speaks through the helmet, but uses a device that makes his voice sound deeper, to avoid people recognizing his voice.

Character Description
    Name: Evelyn "Ev" Briggs (Kraken)
    Gender: F
    Age: 28
    Appearance:
    Image

Superpowers!
Skills and Powers:
- Telekinesis (4 points): Evelyn's powers are among the upper tiers of measured telekinetic. Not only in their scope as Evelyn is capable of crushing an armored vehicle at fifty meters ( the range of her powers) but also in her control. Evelyn is capable of precise control of her powers when needed (i.e.
worming a key out of a pocket or hitting the mag release of a firearm); though this precision requires greater then usual concentration on her part and its utility on the fly is questionable. However, her powers are still durable on their own and she is capable of the standard telekinetic practices with
little to know effort (throwing, pushing, etc.).
- Defense (2 points): Evelyn has experimented over the years with creating her own personal "telekinetic shield". She has met mixed success in that regard. She is capable of forming a barrier capable of fending off limited small arms fire and some elements ( electricity and fire are capable of
bypassing the shield); but the shield has to be actively raised by Evelyn and can only be formed in one direction. Maintaining the barrier is fatiguing and is mainly useful for covering runs for sturdier cover for a small time frame.
- Telepathy (1 point): Evelyn's telepathy is extremely basic. She can only read a person's most basic intent and even that is usually a vague notion. She mainly only uses it to detect hostile intentions.
- Agility (1 point): Evelyn was originally trained as an infiltration specialist. While she has let these skills decline as of recent; her previous training combined with her powers allow her a decent degree of maneuverability in the field.

Backstory:
Evelyn was found abandoned on the door of Fire Station 8 of Annapolis, Maryland as a baby. A ward of the state since a young age; Evelyn was saved from an endless cycle of foster homes by virtue of good genes and timing. She and three hundred and ninety nine other eight year old orphans were selected from across the country to participate in a secret government program. Project Icepick was the collaboration of the CIA, NSA, DHS and several quasi-goverment agencies to produce telepathic interrogators capable of cracking even the most hardened of agents. Evelyn and the rest of the orphans were subjected to years of mental and physical conditioning, surgeries, experimental gene therapy and untested technology. By the time the candidates were sixteen over a quarter had died as a result of the program's untested methods. The program was eventually halted with three dozen candidates identified as meeting the program's standards. Evelyn was not of them.

While the graduates of Project Icepick were at the top level of known telepathic power levels; the program's failures displayed minimal to no telepathy. For the most part, the washouts and failures were eventually shuffled into one of the program's many sponsor agencies as junior agents or analysts. Given new identities and names in addition to their NDA's. For the most part left to their own devices within the depths of their respective government agency. Evelyn however belonged to a small group of outliers that had failed to develop telepathy; but had instead developed a wide array of other powers. Not wanting to waste such potential; the outliers were hastily scooped up by the CIA and assembled into the newly developed Specter Teams.

The Specter teams were in essence, the heavy hitters of the CIA, sent on deniable, high risk missions that the typical agency field team couldn't handle without the support of an invading army. The Specter teams of the beginning were mainly composed of aging veteran Supes from the initial superhero projects and the wet behind the ear kids of the Icepick program. The early days of the Specter Teams were fraught with casualties and setbacks. The Icepick washouts were powerful but inexperienced; a dangerous combination that led to a string of failures, deaths and collateral damage culminating in a high profile assassination attempt failing. Its entire Specter team killed except for one. The survivor, Evelyn, spent two months in a drug induced haze, undergoing intensive torture before being traded back as part of ongoing peace talks.

Evelyn threw herself into training and rehabilitation upon her return stateside; getting cleared for active duty in record time. She returned to the Specter teams in time for a major reorganization of the program. New commanders, training, protocols and equipment were finally being implemented as a result of the hard earned lessons. When the reformed Specter teams were finally deployed again; their operational record showed success after success of nigh impossible tasks. Evelyn's team was evaluated as one of the top tier Specter teams in operation and she was being groomed for her own team leader position.

However, her career with the CIA and the Specter's came to an abrupt end. Evelyn's team had been deployed to dismantle a cartel; with several CIA paramilitary teams in support. While conducting the operation; Evelyn's team reportedly turned on the CIA support teams. The reasoning for the fight, its participants and its cause are heavily redacted if not unknown, all that was known is that Evelyn was the sole surviving Specter team member by the end of it. While the specifics are once again unknown; rumor has it that Evelyn avoided massive punishment via the use of blackmail; though its contents are unknown. Regardless upon her return stateside; Evelyn was discharged from the CIA with no further consequences. Left to her own devices; Evelyn took to wandering before ending up in New Cottington.

Landing a job as a bartender; Evelyn seemed content with her newly simplified life. Time and guilt eventually made her restless however. The need to make up for something saw her take up vigilante work for a short time before she ran into the Sentinels. The Sentinels offered another team, another place she could belong, and perhaps a clear cut way to make up for her past.

A past that was rapidly coming back to her.

My travels take me many places, from the scorching sands to the cold, dark vacuum of space. But I always return to my friends and family at The Pub.

I've taken the story in a different direction here with a possible new one-shot/filler villain for the characters to take on.

I know that you said:

Decisions: My word and the word of anyone I appoint as a Co-OP is binding. If you don’t like a decision, you can, of course, ask for us to reconsider it. Once. If we made a decision you don’t like, complaining for pages and pages is not going to endear you to anyone. Not me, not the Co-OPs and not your fellow writers. On that note, I intend to run this thread as an anarcho-communist cooperative. This is an unnecessarily complicated way of saying that my word DOES NOT overrule theirs. If there is an appeal and a dispute amongst the Co-OPs we will take a vote on the matter.

so am asking here, and whether this would be an interesting story to have.

So far, it's introducing a possible second new character who is a supe, if that is OK with you, Dyelli Beybi.
Although she's only in it for a short period if that's allowed (consider it like the equivalent of a guest star for a season on a TV show, they appear for the season then the character's never seen again), she could be interesting.

Well if you want to have your character run off and do something different that's fine so long as it doesn't impact the overall state of the world (I have plans for stuff down the line).

I'm not averse to other people taking over and running a chapter (I've done that with EU before), but this one has already started and there's already a mission everyone is going on.

I haven't appointed any Co-OPs yet, though I generally ask the Discord Mods who are in a thread if they are happy to do it (in this case that would be Aren, EU and Bing) since that makes everything neat and tidy.

She's not going from this chapter.... far from it, it's mentioned as something for later down the line. As you're the OP, I think I'll go with what you've said.

I had some minor characters added in, just to give them some background and some friends. Nadia and Olivia Parker are just minor characters included in, they're only there so she's got some people to interact with for now.

I can remove them if needed.
Sort of like NPCs, sorry if that's wrong to include them.

I don't have a fundamental problem with people inserting minor characters. You'll notice some others have done it.

The issue here is you've written Nadia as just wandering into the secret HQ, acting like she belongs there and knows the people present. You haven't written an app for her so other people don't know who she is or how their characters should react to her. If it's something you've worked on with Te Ahaa, that's fine, but you should let people know what is going on in the OOC. At the moment she looks like another member of the group and someone like that should have an app, not just so I can make sure they fit, but also so other people can refer back to them in writing their characters' reactions.

I'm slightly confused about the Olivia Parker stuff and other backstory stuff, but if you've worked on it together with Vox, that's fine

I did not know about this other Olivia Parker. I named her after the most popular name in 2014 and the surname of one of my friends, not some chick in Toronno.

Edit: if they asked to create an NPC with the same name as my NPC, I would have said yes.

I've just retconned out the other Olivia Parker; as for Nadia, sorry for the mistake.

Character Description
Name: Searah “Sally” R. Viorrubie-Nourtine, aka April Showers
    Gender: F
    Age: 19
    Appearance:
    Image

Superpowers!
Skills and Powers:
  • Weather Manipulation(Macro) Level 4: While meteorologists can predict weather, Sally can cause it. So long as it’s plausible in the region, she can generally effect it within a radius of around 25 kilometres—similar to the range of a standard weather station. At a radius of around 10 kilometres, she can generally bring about most possible weather situations on Earth. At this larger scale, though, there is little delicacy to the control. If she causes a hurricane, it’ll hit everyone in the area all the same—just like any normal weather event.
  • Weather Manipulation(Micro) Level 4: Within around a dozen city blocks, however, she can perform more delicate manoeuvres, such as exempting something from a tornado’s grasp, or, yet more locally, using a concentrated gust of wind to blow someone off their feet, strike them with a lightning bolt, or put a cloud of heavy rain right above someone’s head. Her control over the weather may be influenced by her emotional state, which may lead to unexpected consequences if not appropriately regulated. Furthermore, at a more localised scale, she is able to divert weather events in such a way that one person might be untouched by rain or papers are blown in just a certain way by wind.
  • Cooking: Although not a superhuman ability in of itself, her control over aspects of the weather such as localised temperature, sunshine, and especially humidity may facilitate any cooking endeavours Sally undertakes as she cooks manually.

Backstory:

Sally was born from a union of two fairly wealthy families in south Louisiana. The family of her father, Claude Nourtine, owns the Nourtine Lumber Ltd, one of the largest timber companies in South Louisiana, while her mother’s side collectively holds enough stock in several toy companies to make work essentially optional, though most still work in order to afford an upper class lifestyle. Had she been a normal human, she would likely have had a childhood of little incident, marked by material comforts and the high academic standards of her parents.

Although further research would find that her great grandfather, at least in a technical sense, could be considered a Supe, at the time of Sally’s birth, any display of supernatural abilities was quite a surprise. Her great grandfather’s abilities were largely restricted to moderately superhuman agility, bone strength, and resistance to electricity in his youth, specifically tailored for laying telephone lines in trees in the Pacific Theatre of WWII—the cautious first steps of a United States looking to replicate reports from the European Theatre. As these were preliminary experiments, Sally’s great grandfather was not informed of the intent of these experiments until declassification in the early 2000s. Because of this, for several years after her birth, it was quite a mystery as to why it was that there was an uncanny correlation between her mood and the weather. As she grew older, it became more apparent that it was no coincidence, but in fact her will that affected the weather.

Naturally, a child learning that they can control the weather makes for a miserable time for the parents of said child, but, fortunately for Claude and Roseline, Sally was quite an even-tempered child, even if her very first cries had compelled her parents to name her after the Hebrew term for a storm. She was long discouraged from making any use of her abilities, even in the cases where it likely could have prevented some damage rather than caused it. As she grew older, however, her father in particular began to take a different view on the matter. Despite the negative views surrounding Supes, he came to figure that it was likely better she get a firm grasp over her abilities and use them for good rather than try and keep a lid on them and only have control over whether she used them at all.

Due to this change in course, she was sent off before her penultimate year of secondary school to a boarding school in New Cottington. A few phone calls from Claude later, and Sally was put under preliminary Sentinel supervision, combined with a few interviews to see if she would potentially be a good fit. While Sally maintains strong ties with her family, her father’s decision has placed her firmly with the New Cottington Sentinels, for better or for worse, even now that she’s an adult. Now living full time at the Octagon, Sally has come to find an appreciation for her own abilities and is quick to help around the house when not needed for missions.

Probably a bit more powerful than the others but I trust you to behave yourself. Welcome aboard!

Character Description
Name: Mariska Jikeli a.k.a. "Crazy Bird"
    Gender:Female
    Age:33
Appearance: Mariska is most often encountered as a street person of unremarkable features marked by a life on the street. Tousled, unkept dark hair, dark suspicious eyes that make her look unapproachable. Invariably wearing black, she's well-known among the homeless for her famous black feathered cloak made of raven-feathers that never seem to fade.
    Image

Superpowers!
Skills and Powers:
She of Many Eyes 2pnts - Ravens are Mariska's eyes and ears in the world, and wherever they are so is Mariska. Mariska must concentrate to use this ability.

The Dark Conspiracy 3pnts - Mariska is the Lady of Ravens and they are her domain. They flock to her summons, can perform simple tasks a raven might perform, up to and including attacking her enemies en masse with no regard for their own safety; pecking out eyeballs, tearing exposed flesh.

Flight of Feathers 3pnts - Mariska herself may take flight by erupting into a flock of ravens, traveling as the crow flies and reconstituting at will.

Backstory:
Mariska generally prefers the company of her birds to people, and maintains no close relations. She doesn't speak of her past at all. According to police records though, she's been a regular on the streets of New Cottington since her teenage years and a familiar vagrant to police who frequently found her sleeping under bridges, parks, or old abandoned industrial parks; usually wherever people weren't. Though she was familiar with the backseat of police cars which she endured with weary forebearance, Mariska avoided facing any criminal charges despite a history of noncompliance with police investigations on various street crimes they were aware she'd witnessed. Mariska's record is littered with petty fees and fines for public intoxication, loitering, public disturbances and other vagrancy laws; her long history with petty larceny was almost entirely to pay off police fines. No one ever much noticed that the straggly, oily haired waif of a girl was never seen outside the presence of a raven or two watching from a nearby lamp post.

A fairly recent addition to the Sentinels, her life, thefts, and powers might have otherwise have passed without note had she not targeted a member of the team in order to turn a quick dollar in order to pay off fines for sleeping on a park bench. The chase proved far more difficult than either intended, and in the end Mariska took a deal to avoid criminal charges by, reluctantly, lending her services to the Sentinels.

Although she's well known among the street population, she's not really a part of that or any community. Most just know her as "Crazy Bird" though older residents still remember her as "Crazy Bird Lady" or more politely "Bird Lady".

Character Description
    Name: Johnny Jones/Captain CounterFlex
    Gender: male
    Age: 25
Appearance: In his civilian identity, he looks like Jim from The Office with a light beard. When he is Captain CounterFlex, his hair is spiky, held up with gel, and he is clean-shaven. His suit is yellow, with a black cape and a big X on it, because of company branding. He also wears a mask over his eyes to protect his identity.

Superpowers!
Skills and Powers:
3 points- Superstrength. He can lift, move and push heavy objects with ease. Punches are included. That said, he's not good at gauging how forceful his blows need to be to accomplish a certain task. While he does not always go for brute force the first time round, if he needs to break, open, lift, or throw something he usually does so more forcefully than is needed, and his aim in lacking very much.

3 points- Superspeed. He can run up to 160mph (the average speed of a helicopter), but as usual for him, he can often overshoot his destination and crash, to rather comedic ends.

2 points- Flight. He is capable of flying without wings or power. He can also levitate, or hover above the ground. He can fly up to 96mph, so he usually just runs, unless he needs to climb something, in which case it's easier to fly. In keeping with his theme of not being able to use his powers right, he cannot land properly. At all. Every attempt at landing ends in him crashing into the ground, a wall, a rooftop, water, a vehicle, or a tree, with funny results.

Backstory:
Johnny Jones is quite possibly the most average American you can think of. He is the middle child of a working-class suburban family. He's not a genius, but at least he isn't a total idiot. Formerly, he was not athletic or fit at all. And yet, he still dreamed of doing something great, of being someone. But he couldn't act, sing, play an instrument, create art, write literature, or play sports. He never did anything particularly notable, especially in comparison to his two siblings. After high school, he decided to move to the bright lights of the big city, where he would make his fortune, and achieve fame. Somehow. To go along with his new start, he signed up for a rigorous physical fitness regimen from fitness megacorp CounterFlex.

CounterFlex was founded by health scientist, and absolute fitness nut Terry Perkins. It is the equivalent of Adidas, Peloton, Gatorade, Planet Fitness, and more sports/fitness companies combined. They own and operate gyms, sell sports drinks, energy bars, exercise machines, sportswear, and run training programs for athletes and amateurs alike. However, behind the façade there is a real reason for their success. Terry Perkins's father was a scientist in the Cold War-era US supe program. After that program ended, he wanted to commercialize the formula, believing it would make Americans healthier, more active, and able to lead long, productive lives. However, he died before he could realize his dream. His son founded the company, to use serums, formulas and methods from the program to sell and make money. Perkins was secretly putting small doses of super-serum in his products.

When Johnny signed up for CounterFlex's famed fitness program, he expected to come out on the other side all ripped and fit. He didn't. For some reason, the program didn't work on Johnny, who still had average abilities. So, he threatened to sue CounterFlex. Fearing it would open the floodgates to countless legal issues, lawsuits, and possible exposure of the secret formula (which Perkins was selling under the table directly to certain people), Terry Perkins cut a deal with Johnny. Terry would give Johnny the last remaining dose of original, undiluted, super-serum, and Johnny would be the company's mascot. Johnny, naturally said yes, and so Captain CounterFlex was born. for the first year or so, things looked good. Then Terry Perkins' underhanded deals were exposed. Although the FBI thought they were just special steroids, Perkins still went to prison, where he is now. Johnny was fired in the ensuing PR fire, and CounterFlex is likely to be broken up and sold soon. Following this turn of events, Johnny went to the Sentinels for help, hoping to be a real superhero. They agreed to let him join. Johnny is currently on vacation visiting his family to tell them the good news. But after an alert reached him, he is on his way back to the city, ready for action.
