Allison Schnell

Postby Goddess Taytay » Sun May 15, 2022 10:05 pm

Canon House Office Building
Washington DC
June 7, 2007

Allison Schnell sat in her house office, she wanted to be seen as a moderate, but also as a leader. While she had a degree of a relationship to Carol Martel, Martel had not reached out to her to go to campaign stops. Certainly, her performance and charisma would have made something of a splash. Just because she was the only member of the house to appear on lists of the most desired women in the country didn't mean she was a dummy. That said, she continued to find Amadeus Putnam intimidating, and was having a hard time reading Stoicism Today, a signed copy he had given her as a gift on her first day in the House of Representatives. Having his office across the hall from her own had led to a somewhat positive relationship between the two, however, it seemed that in the halls of power, Putnam had more fanboys and fangirls than she had.
One of her staffers, a writer on economic policy and grad student at Catholic University of America, Emily Winters, was wearing the mysterious ferret button. Schnell wasn't sure how to respond to it, so she let it go. She was voting for Martel, and if her team wanted to vote for someone else, that was up to them.
Schnell's apparently friendship with the quirky New Englander she actually found relaxing at times, Putnam often merely dropped into her office to see if he could help her with anything. When he bought donuts or made tea she was always welcome to help herself.
Putnam, honestly, probably was more fond of her because like her, he was a bit of an outsider. However, this philosophy book was giving her some good ideas, especially about courage, and she knew she needed some today. She called a press conference.

Allison Schnell remembered to include a slight drawl. Having been born in Pennsylvania her accent was hardly southern.
"Good afternoon everyone, I've been a newcomer to the United States House of Representatives and have appreciated my post, but I feel I can be doing more, I contemplated long and hard on it, speaking to friends, family, colleagues, and God. I hope to be doing events with Carol Martel soon, but also must forge my own path. This morning I filed paperwork to form an exploratory committee for United States Senate in Tennessee. I am a moderate Democrat from the South, on fiscal issues I support lower taxes on the middle class, I support school vouchers to religious, private, and charter schools for low income families, but want to ensure that it doesn't deprive money for public schools either, working to make them better. I support the death penalty for heinous and three strikes for violent offenders, but want to be just on crime more than tough. I want a strong military that we use judiciously, and to invest in quality infrastructure. I support a woman's right to choose, but believe that abortion should only be allowed to preserve a woman's health after 20 weeks of pregnancy. I am a supporter of the Second Amendment, but want some common sense gun reform to stop dangerous people from obtaining a firearm and to restrict access to automatic weapons that have no practical purpose for self-defense or hunting. I believe we should pursue clean energy, including wind, solar, and nuclear, but also should work to make coal clean and continue domestic energy exploration. I'm only exploring a run, but I hope to make my candidacy known before Super Tuesday. Until then, my priority will be doing my job for the people of Tennessee to prove to them they made the right decision sending me to Washington and should send me upstairs. God bless you all, God Bless Tennessee, and God Bless America."

Press team members asked, "so where would you like to join Carol Martell?"
"Wherever I can help, I think as a country performer Iowa and South Carolina would be nice. I of course would hope we can do events in and near Tennessee too."
"You mentioned just on crime, that's been a talking point of Amadeus Putnam, what are your thoughts on him?"
Schell realized she actually had been lifting her friend's talking points from time to time. She also was wise to heed his warning to view him as a colleague and friend and not someone to actively endorse, for her own sake, "Amadeus Putnam is a very intelligent and kind person. His children and ferret are adorable. He's my favorite Republican running. He has my full support in his party's primary, but I'm focused on my own party right now."
"Congresswoman Schnell, "do you think you have any chance of winning in Tennessee? Your district voted for you because it's blue and you still poured money into it. Do you truly think you can win a statewide race?"
"A lot of people in Tennessee talk about Christian Tennessee values, now I'm a Christian and I'm from Tennessee, and the values they discuss are more reactionary than what Tennessee really believes. Our state is far more moderate than many think, and I believe the people of Tennessee are not represented by the far right," said Schnell, " so, yes, I think I can win, and I think Tennessee is sick of far-right partisan actors pretending to be on their side."

The Volker Residence, Falls Church, Virginia

Sunday 10th June, 2007

As the summer arrived in earnest in the District of Columbia, the Volker household was preparing for their New Englander guests joining them that evening. From what Thomas could recall, at least Congressman Putnam may have visited at some point, albeit not for dinner if memory served him correct, and the evening’s events also featured each of the families children, a rarity for the Volker’s given the distance from Missouri. As the clock in the lounge signalled that the hour of the Putnam’s arrival was fast approaching, Thomas walked into the kitchen, and spoke to Abigail.

“That’s it almost time now, I’ll get the children in the hallway and then you can come join us when you’re ready. It’ll all go well.” Thomas said, finishing with a tone of reassurance.

“Of course, I’m almost finished anyhow. I just need to serve the sweet tea.” Abigail replied, entering the dining room and placing two separate trays of ribs and fried chicken, a southern delicacy that the Kentuckian had regularly served before, albeit altered slightly altered for the sake of Thomas’ health, onto the table, before placing two pitchers of sweet tea on either side of the Volkers’ large oak table.

In the meantime, each of the Volker children came downstairs and lined up in the hallway in order of age, with Abigail soon joining her husband as they all awaited the arrival of their guests.

On the other side of the door Amadeus and Kenzie Putnam were walking up to the front door. They had their three children in tow. Kenzie was holding Artemis' hand making sure the toddler retained her balance. Thomas Aquinas and Dagny had followed behind the couple, keenly observing various little things kids always found interesting in the lawn and furniture. Both kids had small backpacks with them to bring some of their own belongings to keep them occupied, especially if the event ran late. Although Amadeus and Kenzie had talked up the fact that the Volkers had a daughter close to them in age.
Amadeus Putnam was wearing a dark blue polo shirt and khakis over boating shoes, Kenzie was wearing a yellow sundress with a floral print. The children were dressed similarly.
Amadeus Putnam knocked on the door and in his best Chevy Chase impression said "Landshark." This prompted an eyeroll from Kenzie who was too young to fully relate to the reference.
Amadeus Putnam was carrying a plate he and Kenzie had made of mashed red potatoes with skin and all, loaded with bits of bacon, scallions, chives, onions, and cheddar cheese as well as cornbread from an old family recipe. Amadeus insisted it "goes back to Plymouth and a combination of European bread-making and the corn of the local natives," however this was probably false. He suggested it was prepared by Israel Putnam's family and he brought it with him on campaign, this anecdote was debatable. However, be it truly connected to the Putnam family on the Mayflower or the Battle of Bunker Hill, it certainly was at least as old as the US Civil War, and was definitely a family recipe and trade secret. Kenzie had won awards for it in a county fair more than once.

Hearing Amadeus on the other side of the door, Thomas and Abigail both managed to stifle a small chuckle at the Granite Stater’s impression before finally opening the door to their guests.

“It’s wonderful to see again, Amadeus, Kenzie.” Thomas said as both he and Abigail smiled.

“I see your children are here too, wonderful. You’ll be pleased to know that ours have come from Missouri, they just arrived this morning actually.” Abigail as both Volker’s stepped back slightly, so that the Putnam family could enter.

Senator Pierce,
Though I'll be actively campaigning for the next several weeks, I'd love to sit down and have a meeting with you regarding the GOP primaries and the gun bill. If you are willing, I'd like to drop by your office on June 9th. I'm a bit late compared to a few of the others that I'm sure have already swung by, but late is better than never, is it not?
I hope to see you soon,

June 9th, 2007: Senator Pierce's Office

Cassie knocked on the door of Senator Pierce's office. She was dressed rather plainly (for her, at least), wearing a simple black pantsuit. She waited patiently for the door to open, a calm smile on her face.

Cassie was graciously invited into Senator Pierce's office and given refreshment by his Secretary before Senator Pierce walked in from an adjacent room.

"Senator its good to see you", he said shaking her hand and smiling "How's the campaign going? Please have a seat." He said gesturing to a couch in the office as he sat in a comfortable chair next to it

Tommy was welcomed into the Speaker's office, a large lavish space that was still being renovated. Several workers were painting walls and bringing in furniture as the secretary ushered Tommy through.

"Tommy!" Speaker Cragie said as he saw the man enter "Welcome to my humble abode". Cragie gave a big southern smile and shook the man's hand. "Please have a seat, apologies for the state of the place... So how can i help you today?"

Dear Governor,

I have been watching your presidential campaign with a certain eye. I believe that your election as President of the United States, especially swimming upstream in these times, would provide a historic opportunity for the uplift of this nation and for the continuance of our great American prosperity which has been sown for as long as I was Treasury Secretary.

And I can see then through the eyes by which I did what I did that you are a woman of good ideals and pragmatism, and that is why I am interested in meeting with you. Perhaps not for an endorsement yet - as I cannot be seen throwing my lot behind someone yet, for the sake of my influence in the party - but because I simply wish to speak to you frankly and openly about your plans as President of these United States.

Most sincerely,
Kensington Alphaeus Montgomery Eastmoreland-Northwoods.

I would like it, but am hesitant to put my name on it without knowing varying details, such as how much use would we get out of it, how much would it cost, would it be for passengers or freight, and so on. I'm a bit of a rail enthusiast, but that's more a personal matter.

June 16: Seattle, Washington
Upon arriving in Seattle, Cassie focused on the cost of living and the MEAD Act, citing that they went hand in hand; she also clarified her position on right-to-work laws, establishing that she believed that they were best left to the states. Glenn briefly joined up with his wife, fundraising among small business owners.

Excerpt: “If the MEAD Act is passed, the cost of living across the nation will go down. The average cost of an apartment right now is nearly $1,000, and estimates suggest that it could go up to $100 or more within three years. Wages are stagnant, and people are not able to live off of their current wages. By cutting regulations and boosting the minimum wage, the MEAD Act is the perfect way to bring down the cost of living and help Americans as they move from day to day.”

June 17: Spokane, Washington
Cassie attended a church service with Glenn. A few people met with her after the service and, despite her initial opposition to answering questions that day, she kindly addressed concerns about her lack of focus on evangelical issues. Cassie stated that she was a lifelong Methodist and based her political views on her Christian beliefs, pressing that she did believe that America was naturally a Christian nation but that she was not going to force her personal beliefs on anyone.

June 18: Nezperce, Idaho
Cassie and Glenn arrived in Idaho. She concentrated on pruning how much of the land (50%) was federally owned and introduced the basics of her tax simplification strategy.

June 19: Boise, Idaho (CHS) and Idaho Falls, Idaho (GHS)
Moving to Boise next, Cassie spoke to business leaders, investors, and healthcare workers about the state of the economy and her healthcare plan. She also highlighted her tax cut simplification plan and the MEAD Act, underscoring the effect that the middle class and small businesses had on the national economy. Cassie also worked to appeal to ranchers and farmers, stressing that farmers kept the American people fed and were essential to protecting American interests. Meanwhile, Glenn attended a meeting of college Republicans at East Idaho University. He introduced himself as a run-of-the-mill Republican and talked about how his wife planned to reform college loans to bring down tuition costs without bringing down the high standards of education.

June 20: Helena, Montana (CHS) and Charleston, South Carolina (GHS)
Glenn flew down to South Carolina and began devoting money toward setting up precinct captains just as he had in Iowa. He met with large numbers of people that had locally campaigned on behalf of moderates and hired a fair few of them intending to make his wife an acceptable moderate candidate with a winning platform among the GOP's base. The Hepburn-Smiths were fully aware of the fact that the winner of the South Carolina primary was the most consistent winner of the nomination, and so they were certain that South Carolina was a necessary state to win. Meanwhile, Cassie met with more farmers and small business leaders in Montana

June 21: Billings, Montana
In Billings, CHS met with small business leaders while Glenn met with ranchers, farmers, and other agricultural workers. Glenn summarized his wife’s ag proposals and highlighted her membership on the Agriculture Committee; meanwhile, Cassie focused on cutting small business regulations and giving local business owners more control over their goods. She also mentioned some infrastructure plans as Billings is the retail and economic capital of Montana and some surrounding counties out-of-state.

June 22: Cheyenne, Wyoming
In Wyoming, Cassie held a town hall focusing on protecting gun rights and pressing for agricultural reforms, emphasizing cutting regulations and doing more to make the cost of corn profit rather than expenses. Cassie also made a few religious references but didn’t go overboard, hoping to catch the eyes of at least a few voters.

June 23: Rapid City, South Dakota
MEAD Act, protecting 2nd Amendment while fighting crime, town halls

June 24: Fort Collins, Colorado
Cassie attended a church service in Fort Collins and then held a prayer luncheon later in the day.

June 25: Jerusalem, Palestine/Israel
Cassie took a trip abroad to flex some foreign policy credentials. She went to Jerusalem and prayed at the Temple, having a few pictures taken of herself there. Cassie also met with Israeli religious leaders, wanting to understand the border conflict better from their point of view. Later in the day, she also met with Palestinian religious leaders, hoping to gain some insight from their point of view as well.

June 26: Tel-Aviv, Israel
Cassie went to Tel-Aviv next on her trip abroad, now meeting with Israeli political leaders. They discussed trade, defense, and unemployment concerns. Cassie assured several Israelis repeatedly that she was a strong supporter of Israel’s independence and that she would veto any bill that came to her cutting aid to Israel.

June 27: Nazareth, Israel
Cassie went to Nazareth next, taking a few more picture opportunities and meeting with local religious leaders.

June 28: Beirut, Lebanon
Cassie went to Lebanon next, meeting with political officials regarding trade and economics.

June 29: Jerusalem, Palestine/Israel
On Cassie’s last day abroad, she returned to Jerusalem, meeting with more Israeli leaders.

GOVERNOR FLEMING'S DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY CAMPAIGN SCHEDULE
June 3rd-June 16th 2007

Date: Sunday, June 3rd, 2007
Location: South Carolina, Charleston County, Charleston
Time Spent: Rest
Summary: Governor Fleming spent most of Sunday resting, along with making some administrative calls in both his capacity as governor and to campaign staff across the country.

Date: Monday, June 4th 2007
Location: Kansas, Wyandotte County, Kansas City
Time Spent: 3 Hours Public meals, 1 hour visit to General Motors Fairfax Assembly Plant 1 hour visit to, University of Kansas Hospital, 1 hour Meeting with African American faith leaders.
Summary: Governor Fleming begins his first trip of the campaign in Wyandotte County, Kansas City, a suburb of Kansas City Missouri. For its part, the country has voted solidly democratic since 1932, with the republicans only winning the county during President Nixon's 1972 landslide. In 1992, it was also one if the few counties in the country in which [not-perot] won the second most votes. Additionally, while the state as a whole is less than 6% African American, Wyandotte sits at nearly 30%. Put together, Governor Fleming carried out the days events with a liberal leaning tone to his message. On account of the General Motors Fairfax Assembly Plant and Kansas Speedway being critical pillars of the local economy, Governor Fleming chose to speak frequently above his intention to protect automobile manufacturing from foreign competition by, among other things, imposing a pollutant tariff on goods imported from other countries. He also spoke of helping ease the cost of gasoline through his Energy For All plan's universal sustainability credit and supporting biofuel production. He also used the visit to get in touch with the african american faith community in the city.

Date: Tuesday, June 5th, 2007
Location: Kansas, Leavenworth County, Leavenworth.
Time Spent: 3 Hours Public meals, 1 Hours meeting with local leaders, 2 Hours Town Hall.
Summary: Governor Fleming arrived in the solidly republican Leavenworth on Tuesday. The state had only gone for the democrat four times since 1920, with the most recent win being by [not-clinton] in 1992. The county was won in that election with an incredibly small vote share, of ~35% to the Republican incumbents' ~33% and to a third party ~32%. As such, Fleming struck a moderate town throughout the day's campaigning. Given the presence of multiple prisons, federal military and private, Governor Fleming focused on his tough on crime record as DA, along with his ability to compromise with a Republican controlled Pennsylvania legislature in order reduce recidivism through job training programs.

Date: Wednesday, June 6th, 2007
Location: Kansas, Douglas County, Lawrebcr
Time Spent: 3 Hours Public meals, 2 hours meeting with local leaders, 2 hour town hall
Summary: Governor Fleming arrived in Douglas county on June 6th, with his campaign centering on the City of Lawrence. The county had gone Republican in every presidential election from including 1920 to 1988 with the exception of the 1964 Lyndon Johnson landslide election, before being won by democrats in 1992, with the county being repeatedly won by democrats since, giving the county a presidential voting record similar to that of much of New England.

Fleming therefore pursued a liberal leaning with a significant dose of moderation. Due to Lawrence being a college town, Governor Fleming decided to focus on his commitment to College access for all, along with his commitment to seeing teacher's salaries raise.

Date: Thursday, June 7th, 2007
Location: Kansas, Shawnee County, Topeka
Time Spent: 3 Hours Public meals, 2 Hours meeting with local leaders, Summary: Governor Fleming's next stop would be Topeka in Shawnee County. The county has only gone Democratic in the presidential race 4 times since 1880, with 1992 being the most recent victory primarily due to high levels of [not-perot] support. However the county has far mire frequently gone democratic on the state level. Governor Flening therefore struck a highly bi-partisan tone, pointing to his ability to get things done as governor of Pennsylvania with a republican controlled legislature. His focus on the trial was more generic and reactive, more focused on absorbing the concerns of those he spoke with and providing answers instead of leaning discussion one way or another. First Lady Fleming proved helpful for 'personable' moments.

Date: Friday, June 8th, 2007
Location: Kansas, Johnson County
Time Spent: 3 Hours Public meals, 1 Hours meeting with local leaders, 2 hour Rally.
Summary: Governor Fleming's. Would hold a two hour rally in Overland Park in Johnson County. The county itself has voted republican presidential in every single election from and including 1920. Governor Fleming's rally focused primarily on largely politically uncontroversial positions, such as improving teacher pay and support for a safe timely withdrawal from Iraq.

Date: Saturday, June 9th, 2007
Location: Kansas, Sedgwick County, Wichita
Time Spent: 3 Hours public meals, 4 Hours Retail, 1 hour mass at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
Summary: Governor Fleming's last stop of this trio to Kansas would be to its largest city, wichita, in Sedgwick county. While the County as a whole has voted republican in every election since 1964 on the presidential level. Wichita itself has been a solid supporter of the democratic party, with its suburbs being the primary source of republican votes. Governor Fleming's retail campaigning, focused on communities closely tied to the city's large manufacturing base, particularly the very prominent aircraft management industry. The Flemings attended mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception to conclude the day.

Date: Sunday, June 10th, 2007
Location: Kansas, Sedgwick County,
Time Spent: Rest
Summary: The Flemings spend the Sunday resting with the exception of some administrative calls.

Date: Monday, June 11th, 2007
Location: Colorado, Larimer County, Fort Collins
Time Spent: 3 Hours Public meals, 2 Hours meeting with local leaders, 2 Hours Town Hall
Summary: Governor Fleming arrives in Colorado for the first time since the state's Democratic debate for a full visit. He begins in Larimer County, Fort Collins. As far as the county goes it is solidly Republican, but a higher rate of turnout seems to be a plausible path to winning the county in 2008. As for Fort Collins its self, it is best characterized as a college town, however the presence of Colorado State University has set the groundwork for growing high tech sector employment. As Governor Fleming has taken to doing in more moderate parts of the country, he spent the stop largely focusing on the importance of improving access to college and on the need to improve teacher to motivate, attract and maintain, talent in teaching.

Date: Tuesday, June 12th, 2007
Location: Colorado, Eagle County
Time Spent: 3 Hours Public meals, 2 hour local leaders, 3 Hours fundraising
Summary: Governor Fleming's next stop would be westward to Eagle County and the Community of Edwards. Eagle County has a highly unique circumstance of being one of the few counties that which the third party vote would combine to exceed both the democrats and republicans in 1992, while the republican incumbent sat more than 7 percentage points behind [not-clinton]. Since then, the republicans won the county in 2000 with thre democrats winning the surrounding years. By and large, the county appears to be trending democratic, after having been dominated by republicans for 20 years from 1968 to 1988. With the town of Edwards' most notable attraction being a ski resort and gulf course, after 2 hours meeting with local leaders from around the county and surrounding counties, a campaign fundraiser was held at Beaver Creek Resort. As a whole, the focus of the stop was environmentalism.

Date: Wednesday, June 13th, 2007
Location: Colorado, La Plata County
Time Spent: 3 Hours Public meals, 2 Hours local leader meetings, 2 hour town hall.
Summary: Heading to the south west of colorado to Durango of La Plata Count, Fleming would enter a county with a similar profile to many he had been to at this stage of the campaign. A once solidly republican county which was bow trending towards the democrats due to its liberal leanings growing to be exclusively aligned with the democratic party. Notably the rate of poverty is considerably higher in Durango than the national average. Fleming's focus sin this leg of the campaign was job creation as a tool of fighting poverty through higher competition for labor.

Date:Thursday, June 14th, 2007
Location: Colorado, Pueblo County, Pueblo
Time Spent: 3 Hours Public meals, 2 Hours meeting with local leaders, 3 hour
Summary: Pueblo County and Pueblo City would prove different from the vast majority of Governor Fleming's recent campaign stops. This was was a county that voted democrat in every presidential elevtion since 1932 with the exception of 1956 and 1972. The city is plurality hispanic as well, with significantly above average rate of poverty. Here, Fleming's message was solidly liberal campaigning on running an active, progressive, problem solving government.

Date: Friday, June 15th, 2007
Location: Colorado, Boulder County, Boulder
Time Spent: 3 Hours Public meals, 1 Hours meeting with local leaders, 2 hour Rally.
Summary: Governor Fleming would hold his Colorado rally in Boukder colorado, featuring willing speakers from earlier in his trip. Once consistently majority republican in presidential elections, Boulder county now votes overwhelmingly democratic. Nonetheless, while the rhetoric was distinct liberal, the specific policies he mentioned during his speech, with the exception of references to his Healthcare for All and Energy for All plan, were distinctly in line with the democrats 2006 midterm agenda.

Date: Saturday, June 16th, 2007
Location: Colorado, Denver County, Denver
Time Spent: 3 Public meals, 4 Hour Retail, 1 hour mass at Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception
Summary: The final day of Governor Flemings Colorado trip would be spent where he had first visited in this campaign in order to attend a debate, denver county, denver. This time he'd be able to dedicate the full day to campaigning in the very Democratic city. Much like his rally the previous day, Governor Fleming's focus was using uplifting framing around the middle of the road policies that the democrats ran in the midterms on, alongside his own announced plans.

But quite frankly until recently i was considering endorsing a Democrat to help our country unify and rise above.... That's turned into a knife fight tearing apart that party so I don't see myself doing that now... I worry that my endorsement at this stage might solidify the image of you as a liberal or moderate which won't help you among the primary electorate."

"I complete understand , Senator Pierce," Cassie said understandingly. "Would it be too much to ask of you to wait until after the two parties have had their conventions to give an endorsement, then? I think it would do well for both of us in the general."

"I would like to speak at the convention or do a segment giving my endorsement... or give it at a key moment in the primary... I think my best asset would be criticizing another candidate on foreign policy grounds... tell the country they arent ready to lead us on the world stage..."

"Listen right now i'm leaning toward you or Calalo on the Republican side and maybe Laasko on the Democratic side... If you manage to survive and be viable for a bit longer with your more moderate to liberal positions then i'll be in your corner... in whatever capacity would be most effective."

You've been doing well in the polls and in the debates, but I've heard talk that your ground game's not the best. What do you say to the people who think you'll be putcompeted by, say, Eriksen, just because he campaigns more?"
