He is not far off from Joe Manchin on many of the issues you take issue with, but he is way more pro-green. I wanted him to be an independent candidate, but PA is a pretty moderate state, and I could see a Joe Manchin type democrat winning in PA.

The comparison has a few problems though:
1. Manchin was Governor before being Senator, and he succeeded Democratic governor Bob Wise back in 2003 when WV was Democratic-leaning on economic issues
2. Manchin isn't Muslim post-911
3. Pennsylvania isn't West Virginia, because West Virginia's Democratic voters (or Republicans that vote Manchin) are rural union workers, whereas in Pennsylvania, the rural union workers trend GOP and the Democratic party is led by liberals in Philadelphia that would strap Zahir to a railroad track over his views.
I agree there are differences, I mean Zahir is more left/liberal on environmental issues and immigration. And Zahir is more aligned with the Democratic Platform of 2004 than Manchin was at the time. But I am open to changing one or two positions if needed. The union one, but I don't think many of his views are necessary counter to the Democratic platform even though he was intended to be more of an independent candidate.
