In honesty, we were looking over the premise of the character. Because he reads a bit like a mary sue, with a very small number of weaknesses, and seems as if you want him to be more powerful than he actually is based on his position and history. On top of that, Miami does not have ghettoes the same as New York or Detroit (you can argue for places like Wynwood Gardens before it got gentrified, but those are very Black and Haitian and have small numbers of Cuban-Americans). But after discussion, we have come to the conclusion that Tomas Pilar is accepted.

Could you please repost the app for a formal acceptance?

Well, the big thing is the presidential race, where it's a battle between Carole Martel (CA Sen) on the center and Upton Fleming (PA Gov) on the "left". On the far left is my character, Jéan-Jacques St. Cierge, former mayor of Baltimore and radio host and workers rights firebrand, as well as the bland and white version of him, Robert Wallace (Vermont Senator). On the center is new-to-the-race Washington Senator Julie Littenbaum, who made waves by arguing against gay marriage with Tripp Baylor, who has dropped out but was an airline CEO. Another candidate that dropped out is Bob Woolworth, NC congressman whose career was destroyed when a tape of him saying the n-word surfaced. The candidate with most upward mobility is Everest Laakso, North Dakota Senator, who is boring and bland now but could become the front runner. Louisiana Senator L. L. Bream is considering a run, on the moderate side of the party.

On the GOP side, Hawaiian governor Olivia Calalo is sort of the front runner. Apparently the GOP side is significantly more presidential. They have seen Deb Feyrer, Alabama Senator, take the conservative evangelical position after Ruskie Helms, Senate Minority Whip from NC and son of the infamous Jesse Helms, dropped out to care for his ailing dad. Ben Eriksen, former governor of Oklahoma, has been steadily rising in national significance too, I think. I don't pay as much attention to the GOP side. Cassandra Hepburn-Smith, Senator from Virginia, has been stuck with the unhelpful label of "liberal" because of her liberal views on guns and sexism. Meanwhile Amadeus Putnam, a New Hampshire representative and self-described "libertarian", is the party's fighter candidate after he spoke about mass incarceration, weed legalization, and gay marriage.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House, Abilene Wilson-Carter, resigned a while ago over blowback from her calls for Bob Woolworth to resign over his "n-word tape". She was replaced by Elliot Cragie, Dem caucus chair from Georgia, who is Speaker now and trying to wrangle the Democrats into a coherent policy for 2008. Texas governor Marc Pender banned abortion after a heartbeat is discovered — a lawsuit brought against him could strike this down in court? It would need to be brought by someone from Texas.

What is this "objecting to the motion" stuff? I do absolutely hate parliamentary procedure stuff and find it dull as fuck so forgive me if I'm not following, but Sommo made a motion, it has received a second, and so it should be voted on. Shouting "objection" has no bearing on the matter.

I pushed for us to scrap the Parliamentary Procedure at the beginning of this RP, and that was consensus, but I guess that went out the window.

Yes, they do. If it is objected to, even with a second, it requires a vote.

But you already objected to it. So I don't see what objecting to it a second time does, lol. Let's just vote on it.

The most recent objection is on a vote, it's on a motion to table.

Which you already objected to here: viewtopic.php?p=39610773#p39610773

Anyway shatteringly fun as this is, I'm wondering if we couldn't streamline things to cut down on the parliamentary procedure stuff? My amendment failed despite the actual vote being 5-2, presumably because we're meant to count all the NPC Dems as voting against, which is completely fair, but just illustrates how pointless it is to carry out all the PC voting when there are probably not 10 active House members. Could we, say, draw it up so that the voting is largely automatic unless some members of the majority indicate they'll break the whip, or, the majority agree to permit minority motions? That'd cut down on all the incredibly boring makework stuff and let us start legislating a bit more actively.

I'm not over that, but I would assume that it's necessary to some degree because we need certain votes by members on the record.

I'm totally in favor. Maybe only one day of PC voting just for maverick votes?

For the record, Kropotkin (Gaines) and I (Sommo) were talking about letting the amendment pass as part of a trade off, but that move was sabotaged by Cragie.

Yeah for the record I'm not OOC upset my amendment failed or anything, I just find doing all this procedural stuff boring when we know the Dems have the majority anyway. But you've probably had enough of my grousing by now so I'll leave it to the admins to decide.
