Biden administration 'appalled' by anti-monarchy legislation in the UK

WASHINGTON, D.C.- When interviewed by reporters outside the White House, President Joe Biden said on recent anti-monarchy legislation in the UK that he was 'appalled' by efforts to 'delegitimize a royal family that has led the UK for hundreds of years'. He stated that the U.S. Government would not at all be attempting to intervene in the affairs of the United Kingdom, but remarked that he continued to support the British Royal Family 'to the fullest extent'. These sentiments were echoed by Press Secretary Jen Psaki who during a press conference stated that the Biden administration was monitoring the situation in the UK closely, and by Vice President Kamala Harris who reaffirmed her support for the Queen of England.

Joe Biden applauds direct UN oversight of the Golan Heights, expresses hope for the reaching of a lasting Syria-Israel agreement

WASHINGTON, D.C.- President Joe Biden has on the behalf of his administration applauded the recent UN resolution officializing direct United Nations oversight and 'occupation' of the Golan Heights, which has been a sight of contention between the Syrian transitional democratic authority and the Israeli government of Benjamin Netanyahu. President Biden stated that 'UN oversight over the Golan will go far in preventing a second Middle Eastern military engagement'. He reaffirmed America's support for Syria and seemingly softened his tone on Israel, stating that 'the United States is willing to cooperate and speak with both parties to help achieve a lasting agreement', something the President also expressed hope for.

White House convenes Democratic leaders ahead of Democratic Congressional Caucus meeting

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Biden White House yesterday convened Democratic Party leaders ahead of an emergency Democratic Congressional Caucus meeting later this month in what seems to be an effort to unify the Democratic agenda ahead of the 2022 midterms, which progressively continue to look bleaker and bleaker for the Democrats. President Biden to reporters on 7 March said that 'the Democratic Party will work both on itself and on bipartisan cooperation'. An issue expected to be discussed at this White House meeting between the President and top Democratic leaders is the two dissident Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, both of whom voted down the White House's landmark Build Back Better bill in 2021.

Biden-Harris administration focuses efforts on EV manufacturing, promotion, lowering EV costs

SAN FRANCISCO- The Biden-Harris administration has been strong supporters for the development of the electric vehicle, or EV, industry in the United States. President Joe Biden made it a priority in his State of the Union address earlier this month to 'begin the rapid and swift transition to electric vehicles', which is expected to go a long way towards reducing carbon emissions in the U.S. At a visit to EV production plants in the San Francisco Bay Area, Vice President Kamala Harris on March 9 reaffirmed the administration's support for EV development, announcing a possible $2.5 billion investment into the industry over the next two years. The vice president asserted the need to buildup EV infrastructure and lower costs to purchase electric vehicles to help Americans make the transitions. She also praised recent developments and innovations in the industry that are helping to lower costs.

Miguel Diaz Canel Vows to "Further Free Press Reforms to the Extent the Cuban People See Fit" Amid Demonstrations, Makes No Comment on Future of the One Party State

Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel held a public press conference in the Presidential Palace, one of the first of its kind in Cuba, in reaction to the recent demonstrations from conservatives calling for an end to the ban on right wing media outlets on the Exemption List, as well as an end to the one-party state. Canel stated that he does intend to review the Exemption List with his cabinet and members of the National Assembly of People's Power. He said, "I have made a vow to bring true Liberation Under Socialism[1] to Cuba, and I cannot do that without heeding the needs and wants of the Cuban people. I promise that I will review the Exemption List and its future with members of my cabinet and top members of the National Association of People's Power, and that starting now, until further notice, the Exemption List will be temporarily, or permanently, pending review, suspended and outlets on the Exemption List, barring any neo-Nazi outlets, will be allowed into Cuba. The freedom of press is a vital part of Liberation Under Socialism, and I shall further free press reforms to the extent the Cuban people see fit."

When asked about the future of the one-party state, Miguel was notably less decisive, saying that, "That is a more sensitive matter that would take an emergency Congress of the Cuban Communist Party, which I currently cannot assure." He did not answer any other questions on the issue

Cuban Ministry of State Commends the Koreas for Ending the Korean War “Once and For All”

The Cuban Ministry of State released a statement, applauding North and South Korea for coming to terms to an end to the Korean War, which before had been technically ongoing since 1950. At the end of combat, a DMZ was established between the two nations and a ceasefire was signed, but until now, no peace deal had been agreed to. The Ministry’s statement reads, in part, “[We] applaud and commend the two Koreas for coming to an agreement on a peace treaty to finally put an end to the Korean War once and for all. We hope that this will lead into a new era of peace on the peninsula that will last generations.” The Ministry also expressed interest in establishing diplomatic relations with South Korea, which Cuba never officially established.

Cuban UN Representative Commends UN for “Decisive Action” in the Middle East, Declares Support for Syria’s Transitional Government

The Cuban Representative to the United Nations, Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, spoke today with the press in New York. She stated that she was “more than glad” that the UN made “quick and decisive action” regarding the Golan Heights, which has a been a piece of land contested between Syria and Israel. She also stated that she “spoke with [Cuban President Miguel Diaz] Canel” and have come to the agreement to “fully support the Transitional Authority in Syria,” going on to state that “Syria has made great strides to recovery from its civil war, and Cuba plans to assist in this recovery any way that we can”, also stating that “Israel’s unabashed aggression is a threat to peace in the Middle East and the recovery and future stability of Syria.”

[1] Liberation Under Socialism is what Canel calls his process of liberalization in Cuba.

Malema acquitted on firearms charges after evidence chain collapses

Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has been acquitted on all charges in the ongoing firearms case relating to the discharge of a weapon during a 2018 celebration. Malema, who was facing charges of illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, and illegal discharge of a firearm, walked free after prosecutors admitted a breach in the chain of custody over the spent cartridge that formed the basis of the prosecution case. Defense lawyers pointed out inconsistencies in the ballistics report between the cartridge first logged into evidence and the one produced at trial, forcing prosecutors to admit the “possibility” of an administrative error. The humiliating collapse of the trial will yet again raise questions about the underfunding of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), which has severely impacted President Cyril Ramaphosa’s attempt at prosecuting corruption. The report of the State Capture Commission noted “paucity of funding in vital departments including evidence collection and storage” as well as a “generalized lack of resources” available for the NPA. Greeted outside the East London magistrates court by a flock of EFF supporters, a triumphant and unrepetentant blamed the “forces of monopoly capital” for trying to silence him before leading his supporters in a chant of “Our land and our jobs, now!”.

SARS blamed for budget shortfall

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has blamed deficiencies at the South African Revenue Service for shortfalls in revenue collection that have necessitated the tax increases announced in the 2022/23 budget. Because of lower than expected collection of revenue, Godongwana was not able to deliver on ANC promises of tax relief. Though Godongwana stopped short of increasing personal or corporate income tax, he has not increased the tax threshold for either to keep pace with what is estimated to be nearly 5% inflation this year, effectively meaning a tax increase across the board. Sin taxes on alcohol and tobacco have also increased. While much criticism of the budget, which saw markets sink 12% at their lowest, has focussed on the massive amounts being put into Eskom, the failing state utility which has needed a further injection of over R100bn to service its debt, Charlize van der Byl of JP Morgan South Africa said that it was clear the tax office’s failure was becoming a “liability” that was underfunding government services and leaving Godongwana with “few options”. Mining companies have reacted with fury to the special Resource Equity Levy, which they have said will drive business out of South Africa.

Democracy At Last: Elections “Successfully Held”

DAMASCUS -
Yesterday, millions of voting age Syrians went out to the polls to exercise, for the first time since the end of the civil war and the overthrow of the Assad regime, their right to vote in the elections for the presidency, the Constituent Assembly, and for executive and legislative offices in the governorates and local jurisdictions. The Federal Electoral Commission, in concert with international election observers, monitored polling sites around the country yesterday to confirm the “security and veracity” of the election. The Ministry of the Interior and the Directorate of Intelligence and National Security were reportedly on high alert throughout Election Day, with MoI security forces stationed across from polling places to ensure the physical security of voters and the polling sites - no MoI forces were stationed within polling sites, according to a statement issued by the Ministry and Federal Elections Commission.

Earlier this morning, the Federal Election Commission announced that Mr. Alaeddine Khaled of the Syrian National Democratic Alliance (TWDS) has won the presidential election, with 52% of the vote, securing more than the required 51% to declare victory in the first round. His closest competitor, Mr. Humaydi Daham al-Hadi of the Democratic Conservative Party (DCP), had garnered 38% of the vote, with remaining votes going to candidates from other political parties. Mr. Al-Hadi formally conceded to Mr. Khaled shortly after the announcement by the Federal Election Commission, saying that, “While we did not secure a victory for our vision of common sense conservatism in these elections, what we have achieved today is a victory for all Syrians. I wish Mr. Khaled luck in the years to come, and I congratulate all of the DCP Deputies, Senators, and other elected officials in their victories.” Mr. Khaled, for his part, congratulated Mr. Al-Hadi “for a race well-run,” and stated he looked forward to seeing him run again in the future.

Mr. Khaled’s strong performances at the debates, as well as his policy platform emphasizing the gradual privatization of various state industries while investing heavily in healthcare, education, and of course the consolidation of center-left and left-wing support behind his candidacy, appear to have contributed heavily to his victory among working class and poor voters, as well as some elements of the middle class that might have been reluctant to throw their support behind a left wing candidacy. Meanwhile, it appears that the Constituent Assembly might be comfortably in the possession of a potential umbrella coalition of center-left and left-wing political parties. Mr. Khaled will be inaugurated in two weeks, on April 18. Meanwhile, the Constituent Assembly’s Chamber of Deputies and Senate will convene this Friday in Damascus, where the Chamber of Deputies will nominate a Prime Minister and Government, though we expect that Mr. Khaled will be involved in the negotiations to build his cabinet.

The Transitional Authority, in its own statement, congratulated Mr. Khaled for his election, and further congratulated the “hard work and diligent oversight of the Federal Elections Commission and international elections observers” in ensuring the smooth rollout of the elections on April 3rd. The new government, modeled after the French semi-presidential system, will formally take over the reigns from the Transitional Authority once the Chamber of Deputies nominates a Prime Minister. Normally, the elected President would be the one to formalize the appointment of the government, however, in order to ensure a “seamless transition,” it will be Co-Presidents al-Abdah and Ehmed who will, at the instruction of President-Elect Khaled, approve of the nomination and after which, the entire Transitional Authority will step down, formally handing power over to the Prime Minister in the interim until Mr. Khaled is inaugurated. The Transitional Authority has begun briefing Mr. Khaled today on matters of national security, the state of the economy, among other “matters of concern.”

Chamber of Deputies Election Results (Out of 250 Seats):
• Democratic Conservative Party (DCP) - 55 seats

• Kurdish Democratic Accord Party (Wifaq): 12 seats

Climate change rallies across the country demand action from the U.S. Government against the climate crisis

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Climate change rallies across the United States were held on the 5th and 6th of April in various major cities and locations all over the country in a coordinated effort to voice the people's support for decisive action against the growing climate crisis. Several members of Congress, such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) most prominently, attended rallies mostly in the Northeast. Ocasio-Cortez declared the 2020s to be 'the turning point in the climate change fight', urging her colleagues on both sides of the aisle to 'swiftly pass legislation that will ensure humanity will have a future to enjoy'. The rallies come as increased pressure is placed on the U.S. Government to act against the climate crisis before it is too late.

Biden White House calls for start of 'new US-Cuba relationship', POTUS pledges to lift sanctions by August

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Biden White House has been particularly active in boosting relations with Cuba compared to the President's predecessor, with the President regularly reaffirming his support for a 'cordial' US-Cuba relationship. Under former president Barack Obama efforts were made to thaw relations between the United States and Cuba, culminating in the reopening of diplomatic relations between the two countries for the first time since the Cuban Missile Crisis of the 1960s. President Biden pledged yesterday during a press conference to 'lift any and all economic sanctions on the Cuban state by August of this year', marking the first time an American president has promised to do so. The President also stated he intended to contact the Cuban president once more within the next month or so to reaffirm this commitment and 'begin the U.S. and Cuba down a path towards a bright, united future'.

Biden administration extends offer of reconciliation to Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Biden administration has extended an offer of reconciliation to Israel's government and its President, Benjamin Netanyahu, following the 'successful' conclusion of Israel-Syria tensions over the Golan Heights, Press Secretary Jen Psaki announced yesterday. Since the start of the crisis the United States and the Biden administration had sided firmly with the Syrian transitional democratic government, neglecting to support Israel, a longtime American ally and partner in the Middle East. President Biden has reiterated his intention to 'rebuild' relations with Israel following the end of the crisis, applauding Netanyahu for his 'decision to choose peace'.

In Port-au-Prince, President Bonnet has commissioned the new Haitian Republican Guard.

Image

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI.- In the first real expansion of the newly formed military, the first batch of cadets to this new military branch have graduated. Trained by Russian advisors, the goals of the newly minted Haitian Republican Guard is to carry out police actions in rural areas, monitor the national highways, guard strategic infrastructure, and handle border crossing with the Dominican Republic. Part of the President’s campaign of making Haiti safe for all its citizens, these young men and women prepare to join the struggle for the national future. The force is planned to reach 40,000 troops, making it the largest branch of the Haitian military. This will accompany the 80,000 National Police nation wide. Some voices raise concern about the militarized nature of the state, to which the the President rebuffs “This is all for our children. The work is not done until Haitian girls can feel safe to walk the streets alone at night.”

President Calls for Rebirth of Haitian Public Transport
Image

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI- In an address announcing new public works, the president announced plans to hear the bids of international companies for the construction of a railway system in Haiti, along with tram systems. The President was noted as saying “The corrupt so called elites of our nation have run our shared systems into the ground! For decades, Haiti has had no public rails, no trams, foundering public transport. I for one, am very proud of the bus system set up in our cities over the past few years. The revitalization of our roads and highways. My countrymen, I’m afraid it is not enough. For the transport of goods and people, railways are needed. As your humble servant, I shall deliver them to you. As such, I will search for the most cost effective corporation to help build these systems. In 6 years time, see that there isn’t a revolution in Haitian Transport!” With the rise of the Haitian mining industry, and the various plans at assisting Haitian farmers, the need for such transport were recognized. First addressing Haitian roads, a renovation of the nation’s railways seems imminent.

Homicides continue downward trend, State not done yet
Image

PORT-AU-PRINCE, D.C.- The Haitian homicide rate has reached 6.3 per 100,000, part of the nation’s continual downward trend. The state’s harsh in school policy, while receiving critism for its heavily restrictive nature on the nation’s youth, has succeeded in denying these young people to Haitian gangs. This, among other things, has helped contribute to the sustained downward trend of homicide in the nation since 2014. The state isn’t finished however, the administration apparently seeking partners for extra security system, that will quote “bring Haitian security onto the 21st century’s cutting edge.” With so much effort being put into a preventive, rather than just reactive mindset, a record of increasing safety continues to be a pillar for the ruling party.

Far-right protests see 4 die
The recent far-right protests against the government, led by controversial far-right party, The Bulgarian Unity Party (BUP), has seen 4 people die within the protests, which had started mid-March. Though protests had originally started because of the government's legislation of homosexual adoption, however, had developed into a protests over the government in general with no particular issue. With seemingly no glimpses to die down, more police have been deployed in Sofia, in which has seen the protests only become more violent. With the party itself stating on a twitter post that "more is to come" - many fear violence could erupt with molotov bottles and advanced weaponry. As police prepare for more violent uproar, the government will be holding an emergency session with the Internal Security Force (ISF) to asses what to do if violence increases.

The Winds of Fortune Blow

Image

(Haitian and Soviet staff conversing)

In the new International airport on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince, Haitian honor guard dressed in white waited for the Soviet delegation to exit their airplane. They stood in humble contrast to the work being done on the still expanding airport. Port-au-Prince was a national capital, though oil changed things. All of a sudden, more people wanted to visit, and Haiti needed to make accommodations. Seeing as how the old airport was literally surrounded by the city, expanding it wouldn’t do. So here, in the outskirts of the capital, the Haitian president and media awaited to meet the Soviets.

President Orlov looked out of his window at the scene below. Slums and desperate poverty collided with newer housing and even sparkling modern buildings that the oil had brought into this country.

Gorbachev had been the man to open up Haiti to the USSR and had spearheaded the 2002 deal in the twilight of his presidency. Now, 20 years later, Orlov prepared to see first hand what this cooperation had brought.

As the jet rolled to a stop, Orlov stood and made his way to the door. Waving as he stepped out, he quickly made his way down the stairs followed by some aides and his personal security officer.

Smiling as he reached the Haitian delegation, Orlov first shook his counterpart’s hand saying in French “It is good to finally visit you here in person. Haiti is certainly a beautiful and budding nation from what I saw from the plane. I truly hope we can continue this growth and cooperation my friend.”

President Bonnet shook President Orlov’s hand, the seasoned politician smiling at his Soviet counterpart. “Of course, President Orlov. Welcome to Haiti. We’ve got a few things to do before our meeting. First up, you’ll get to meet some of our bright young ones. Your car will also pass the planned route for Port-au-Prince’s planned tram system. Then hopefully we’ll answer some media questions together, before having our meeting. Any questions?”

“That sounds absolutely wonderful my friend. Lead the way.” Orlov replied

The first stop was the school that had been selected to be visited. It was a newer middle class school that was only two years old. Walking through the hallways of this new institution, the occasional student who was doing something outside while class was in session gaped at the entourage of reporters, and politicians. They’d be making a few stops, though their first was in a history classroom.
“Alright students, everyone in your seats.” The teacher could be vaguely heard cautioning as the door opened, a class of 25 students looked wide eyed at the two heads of state, and select reporters. “Good morning, everyone!” President Bonnet said cheerily. “We have a visitor with us today! What do we say to visitors?”

“Dobro pozhalovat' na Gaiti, gospodin prezident!” the students chorused in practiced Russian. “As you can see, even our children are hospitable.” President Bonnet said cheerily to his counterpart.

“Dlya menya bol'shaya chest' byt' zdes', druz'ya moi!” Orlov replied to the children. Turning to his counterpart he said in English “They speak excellent Russian for their age! It’s an honor to meet them.”

Turning to the teacher, Orlov extended his hand and said “You have done an excellent job my friend. Haiti is in good hands for the future I can see.”

“Thank you, President Orlov.” The Haitian woman at the head of the class said, nodding politely. Upon further evaluation, it became apparent this woman had an American accent. It was likely she was part of the Diaspora. “Tell us, how has teaching in this new school been for you?” Bonnet probed. “Wonderful, Mr President. These kids are bright, and its practically night and day between this building and the old ones they had to contend with.” She then had her knuckles tap the history book on her desk, a relatively new hard copy. “The three principles motivate this school, and its operations.” She would switch to French. “What are the three principles, everyone?” She asked. “Punctuality, diligence, and Respect!” The students answered.

“Very good! Thank you for giving us such a wonderful welcome!” Orlov replied to the class.

“Your welcome!” The class replied. From this point, President Bonnet took over. “We have of course made every expense to make sure our youth are being afforded opportunities that simply didn’t exist for my generation. Beyond that, we’ve also set up literacy centers for the older among us who were left behind. This school is the partial result. They have school, then their youth groups after. In Haiti, civic engagement is important. The thugs in gangs would try to ruin these bright young people’s futures, but we won't allow it. They’ll be productive citizens, every one of them. Doctors, lawyers, teachers, pilots, soldiers, cooks, innovators. The hope of our island.” Bonnet explained, slowly drifting back to the political.

“Very nice! Well, if these fine young citizens are any example then I am confident that the future of Haiti is bright indeed!” Orlov replied

“Well, thank for letting us intrude.” Bonnet said, nodding towards the class and teacher, who gave their goodbyes. They viewed some other parts of the school facility, before being taken to their next destination. On the way to the Presidential palace, routes for the planned tram were obviously being cleared. This accompanied the constant construction going on around the city. Honestly speaking, it was sort of a mess. There was apparently a planned vision to all of this, but from the ground, it looked a bit disjointed. Though there was obviously improvements, from new buildings, improved roads, small business in the service sector popping up all over, refurbished apartments, it was a city with a future. They’d eventually arrive at the Presidential Palace, where national police awaited their arrival. They’d be shuffled into what was apparently the Haitian press briefing room, where a brief joint session was to be held. Domestic and foreign journalists piled in the room.

“President Orlov, what’s your thoughts on the oil subsidies program Haiti has been doing, giving discounted oil to regional Caribbean states to foster Cooperation and to increase leverage over the Maduro regime?” Marie Moise from Zile asked.

“I think that cooperation is always a good thing. Being a good neighbor should be something we all strive for as individuals and as nations.” Orlov replied

“President Bonnet, Mikhail Mikhailovsky from The Moscow Times, what is your view of the Soviet Union and President Orlov in relation to Haiti?”

“The USSR is a friend of Haiti, and a vital partner. We cooperate on sectors ranging from energy, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and security. While many nations in the west had trampled on our sovereignty, and despised us, the USSR treated us with respect. Every good Haitian should feel a warm feeling for our friends in the USSR. President Orlov has continued this trend, and for that, he has our thanks.” President Bonnet answered.

“Hello, Iris Pierre with France 24. What’s your opinion on the French-Haitian relationship, President Orlov? The USSR is partners with France, and partners with Haiti. Though the latter seems to heavily resent the former, especially under the self described nationalist leadership of President Bonnet. Has the USSR done anything to try reconciling these two nations, or does it plan to?” The French reporter asked

“Both Haiti and France are valuable partners for the USSR. However, I can certainly understand the history here in Haiti and understand the feelings Haitians have towards France. However, I would always be open to helping mediate in anyway that could bring closer ties between the two.” Orlov replied

“Well, how would that materialize? President Bonnet claims that reconciliation is easy, and has a price tag. 21 billion dollars. He even said an extended payment plan would be acceptable. The French Government says that figure itself is a non-starter. Is this a relationship that can find some sort of common ground, a Soviet mediated common ground?” Iris followed up.

“I believe that nearly any difference can be settled at the meeting table. I would be more than willing to provide such a table even. However, it is not for me to say what either side should give or request.” Orlov replied

“President Bonnet, Vladimir Durovich from Pravda, what do you say to critics of President Orlov and the Soviet Union for their recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and the moving of the embassy there?”

Bonnet laughed at that, and shrugged. “Israel is a far away land. Ultimately, I wish the people in the region well. As long as people act in a way they think will bring peace, let them do so. As for the specifics, I’m hardly the man to ask about that.”

“Angela Baker with the DW. President Orlov, what’s your opinion on the Haitian security state. The Haitian government will certainly argue its effectiveness, but some observers are calling the security state’s policies draconian. From the strict control emplaced upon young people, to accounts of police brutality, and the highest number of police killings in the Caribbean. Is this apparent trade of freedom and due process for security troublesome? Many compare it to Bolsanaro’s tactics.” She questioned, to which Bonnet gave an interjection. “Don't compare me to that man. We are harsh, yes, but we have finesse too. Also, I work to address our problems. I've never called for the sterilization of our poor.”

"It is not my position to judge Haiti. I do not believe that President Bonnet is interested in harming Haitians in any way." Orlov replied

“President Bonnet, Mikhail Mikhailovsky again, what do you hope to get out of today’s meeting with President Orlov?”

“Deals over security, healthcare, infrastructure, and education. I told the people I will deliver what they need, so here I am with my friend President Orlov, and we will make good deals for both our nations.” President Bonnet replied. “Alright everyone, that's it for questioning.” He said, gathering his things, and heading to the meeting area or the Presidential palace.

Taking his seat, Orlov smiled as he said to his counterpart “Thank you for showing me your wonderful nation my friend. Shall we get started with healthcare?”

“Of course,” Bonnet began, sitting across from his Soviet counterpart. “I’m afraid the situation is rather untenable. Thankfully due to work with the Diaspora and more training, Haiti now has around 37 Physicians per 100,000 people. In context, Germany has 337 per 100,000. The USSR was somewhere in the 400s last I checked. Cuba, rather infamously, has up to 500 per 100,000. Obviously, we’re lacking healthcare officials to man the healthcare system we’re developing. It's things like this that make Haiti’s rapid rise hard, but it can’t be helped. As such, I'm asking for a few things. One is to help bring in doctors to help staff our new hospitals. Another thing is seeing if we can bring drug manufacturing to the island.” Alexander explained.

“Well, the USSR is certainly interested in helping out as much as we can. Perhaps your government can provide incentives for Soviet medical staff to work here for a time. In addition, we can work on giving medical students the option to finish their residency here in Haiti for a year. I’m also willing to deploy some military medical staff to help fill the gap in the meantime and open up Soviet medical schools to Haitians with an expedited application process.” Orlov replied

“I’m sure we can produce incentives for Soviet physicians to work in Haiti. We can afford to give these employees a middle class to upper middle class lifestyle in Haiti. Mind you, pay will vary by region, so I couldn’t give you any fixed figure. We’ll also offer access to subsidized housing, and the opportunity at dual citizenship. I'm sure you know this already, though that’s important if someone wants to be able to own more property or something of the sort.” He explained. “Of course, we can set up a program so they can finish their residency here. Helping being able to send students to learn how to be doctors in Russia would also be a boom.” He explained.

“Very well. I will introduce the necessary legislation to the Supreme Soviet. How would you feel about having Bashkir State University open a branch here in Haiti? Perhaps starting with the three core academic areas of Education, Law, and Medicine?” Orlov replied

“Extra educational institutions are always appreciated. I'm sure the city of Port-de-Paix would appreciate such a center in the north of the country. What about drug manufacturing, is there any way we can bring such an enterprise to Haiti?” Bonned asked.

“Certainly, we could ask some of our companies like Protek and Pharmstandard about exploring opening operations here. I would suggest helping lure them, offering incentives like free land and tax breaks.” Orlov replied

“Yes, we’ll get them connected to the Industrial zone that is being expanded in Port-au-Prince, with the accompanied benefits, along with access to expanding public transport. We also have plans for a wage subsidy. Say if a job is worth 9 dollars an hour to an employer, we’ll provide a three dollar wage subsidy. 5 dollars can be turned into 8. For these manufacturing jobs, we’ll help these companies out. As I’m sure you’re aware, someone making 8 dollars an hour is doing very charitably for themselves in Haiti. Even more so at 12 dollars an hour. So, this opens the door for more job creation than these companies might have initially considered.” Alexander explained, adding even more incentives.

“I absolutely agree with you my friend.” Orlov replied before continuing “I also wanted to propose to you the expansion of our security and scientific cooperation to include a deep space tracking station here in Haiti.”

“Sure, we can handle such an installation. We’d welcome such a project. On the note of increased cooperation, we’d also like help designing a new national railway, and tram system. This relates to mining, which I'm sure we’ll discuss in a moment, and various other industrial needs. That said, public transportation is dearly needed in Haiti. With such a dense nation, can you imagine the traffic jams of all these newly middle class Haitians, having to get cars due to no other reasonable options? I’ve heard horror stories from the US, and I’d rather not repeat that here.” Bonnet went on.

"The USSR is of course more than willing to help in this in any way we can." Orlov replied.

“Now related to the mining industry. Haiti actually has the second largest Iridium deposits. Very important for certain industries, and I'm confident we’re on the cusp of being able to access it. We do need capital for this, that all said. Capital and experience. So we’d like to invite the USSR to be a leading foreign investor role in this project.” Bonnet continued.

“Certainly my friend. I am certain that NorNickel and Sibplaz would both be interested in helping provide technical support and oversight.” Orlov replied.

“Certainly. Next, I’d like to discuss energy. To preserve our environment, I believe utilizing nuclear power would be the easiest solution. As such, we’d like to receive aid on a domestic nuclear program. It appears to us the most reliable non-fossil fuel alternative for the Island.” Alexander said, going onto the next topic.

“Absolutely, we are more than happy to assist you in this endeavor my friend.” Orlov replied

“Wonderful. The last major area of worry is the first restoration of the Military. The Republican Guard desires APC, transport aircraft, and logistics vehicles. The Army desires AFVs, IFVs, logistical aircraft, modernized artillery, things befitting a force of around 14,000. The AirForces primarily need aircraft to deal with transportation, and utility, and an aerial defense system. A wing of drones for surveillance purposes would also be useful. A token wing of combat jets perhaps later down the line. The Navy needs patrol boats, FACs, minesweepers, and a Frigate as a flag ship. As time goes on, Haiti needs to contribute more to the world. As such, I hope as modernization steams ahead, Haiti will be able to provide UN peacekeepers.” Alexander said, in his part about security.

“The USSR is of course willing to sell all of these to you at a good rate or finance it however you might need. I can have my Defense Ministry reach out to your government to go over the details if you’d like.” Orlov replied

“That works for us. On that note, we’d also like the trainers to accompany said equipment. We’ll also likely have to expand our naval bases as modernization kicks off.” Bonnet replied.

“Absolutely, we are more than willing to assist you in all of that my friend.” Orlov replied

“Great. Now, on to the final subject, we should touch agriculture. Many Haitians are still farmers, and even as Haiti modernizes, making Haitian agriculture a jewel once more seems like a no brainer. I’d like Soviet assistance in the modernization of our agriculture to new levels, and helping set up agriculture schools. Fertilizers, pesticides, machinery, more advanced irrigation methods. These are all necessary. I should note reclamation efforts to heal soil that has been eroded as well is also necessary.” Bonnet said, stating his final ask.

“Absolutely, my Agricultural Ministry will be in touch with your government and they can also assist in sourcing the materials you require.” Orlov replied

“Wonderful. I think we’ve covered our most pressing issues. Is there anything else of note we need to discuss?” Alexander asked.

“I believe that is it, my friend.” Orlov replied

Change in Drug Laws to give Police Officers Reprieve

Image

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI.- In an interesting development, the People’s Party las legalized weed for recreational and medical use. The rationale behind this change? “Drug usage in Haiti isn’t the biggest blight on our society, the trafficking of drugs is. Besides, many reputable nations have decided that cannabis isn’t as dangerous a drug. No more dangerous than say alcohol, which we also tolerate. To accompany this, we will also be investing in social services to deal with drug rehabilitation. This varies from Alcohol Addicts, to users of the hardest drugs. As for cannabis, we’ll be working on getting people on charges of use or small possession back to their lives.” The President reportedly said. Said rehabilitation regime is to be part of the reported expanded Healthcare system. The hope is, with more focused drug laws, the state can focus its attention on more dangerous drugs. Of course, these come with the regulations we’ve come to expect with other products. Expect a fine if you’re smoking cannabis in public.

High Gas Prices fuels State Modernization
Image

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI- The Haitian Republic is seeing the strongest State it has ever had in decades, our president gradually forming and reforming institutions for longevity of our democracy. There’s an American phrase, “Money makes Money.” Well, the same applies here. For so long, Haiti was denied the ability to gradually grow or state capacity. We know this started during the revolution, and was most aggressively displayed during the French heist of 1825. Though, in the modern day, oil now funds our public infrastructure, our education, our security, and allows us to form the communities to hold our institutions to account. It also allows for low tax rates for foreign businesses and Haitians, allowing both to cultivate wealth in the Republic. Haiti is a young nation, but it has been reborn.

”There are 13 Million of Us!”
Image

PORT-AU-PRINCE, D.C.- In an impassioned speech to the Parliament, President Bonnet declared “there are 13 million of us!” in reference to Haitians living abroad. Declaring Haiti to be a nation that should never forget her children, especially her children that are being maltreated abroad, he has passed through a law called the “Law of Return.” Fashioned after the Israeli law, the law in essence sets up a plan for the repatriation of Haitians living abroad, giving them automatic citizenship should they return. It’s a law that works in phases. The first phase giving educated Haitians , and Haitians who have been subjected to being without state the right of return. Then it goes down to more working class people in priority level. By the year 2032, all Haitians will have the intrinsic right to return to Haiti as citizens. The most immediate effect of this law is Haitians born in the Dominican Republic, and were unjustly stripped of their citizenship in what President Bonnet declares a “racist” display, will be given Haitian citizenship. This law has officials speculating the impact. As Haiti grows richer and richer with time, this may very well attract a sizable portion of the 800,000 Haitians living in the Dominican Republic back. The breakneck pace housing developments trying to upgrade Haiti’s housing for its current residents may have more demand soon. Fortunately, they still have time, considering the initial limitations of the law.
"Yeah, you're right. You got lucky this time. If there were Dutch people there, you would be facing so many rebels!"

British Royals No Longer Privileged?
UNITED KINGDOM - The Liberal-Labour Alliance (LLA) has recently passed a legislation that lowered the privileges of the British royal family. The legislation has caused outrage across the world, most notably in the US, where President Joe Biden was appalled by "efforts to delegitimize a royal family that has led the UK for hundreds of years". Similar reactions has been seen in Czechoslovakia, mostly from the extra-parliamentary Monarchist Party of Czechoslovakia (MSČ), who denounced the legislation as an "republican act of terror". On the other hand, the Czechoslovak government has been made aware of the legislation, yet chooses to stay neutral for the purpose of "not causing another diplomatic conflict".

Controversial Mayor Sacked from Office
BRNO - Ahmet Sahçeli (ODS) has recently been sacked from his role as the Mayor of Brno by the Czechoslovak government. This came as the ruling Civic Democratic Party (ODS) got fed up with his erratic behaviour in regards to ethnic tensions and social media. Many Turks in the country fully opposed the decision and called upon the government to let Ahmet stay. However, the demand fell on deaf ears as the government proceeded to both sack Ahmet from his position and then kick him out of the ruling party. Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) described the decision as a "last resort". The Turkish community has since gone on to launch protests against the government, while Ahmet's critics celebrated in the process. As for Brno, Markéta Vaňková (ODS) has been appointed as the city's new Mayor. Ahmet has yet to comment on the situation, but he has expressed absolute anger towards both his critics and the ruling ODS.

Controversial Senator Forms New Political Party
PRAGUE - After a month of political turmoil, Senator Pavel Berman (ODS) and his supporters have long split ways with the ruling Civic Democratic Party (ODS) and formed a new political party called the Civic Republican Party (ORS). Pavel have described the ORS as being more conservative and pro-Israeli than the ODS. He also describes the party as having its own brand of "conservative democracy" and being very hostile towards the BDS movement, whom he describes as an "antisemitic hate group". Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) has expressed concern over the Senator's decision to leave the ODS and form another party, but wishes to not cause further turmoil in the country.

Democrats rebound in polls after GOP stumbles on the midterm campaign trail

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Democratic Party has perhaps by miracle rebounded in polls, albeit slightly, after the GOP made several stumbles on the midterm campaign trail. Polling bodies show that voting intention as of 25 March 2022 were 32% for Democrats, 39% for Republicans, and 29% undecided. Many Americans who partook in these polls attributed the lack of support for Democrats to recent blunders particularly by President Joe Biden as well as a general lack of support for Biden administration policies. However, recent GOP campaign blunders involving Israel, federal charges pressed against Rep. Madison Cawthorn from North Carolina, as well as new controversies around Matt Gaetz and a renewed interest in corruption during the Trump administration has caused changes in polls, albeit slight ones. New polling from 12 April 2022 for voting intentions show 33% for Democrats, 34% for Republicans, and 33% undecided.

Department of Labor backs calls for establishment of Amazon workers' unions

NEW YORK, NY- The United States Department of Labor is the federal government department responsible for the administration of federal laws governing occupational safety and health, wages and hour standards, unemployment benefits, reemployment services, and occasionally, economic statistics. The federal government and the Department of Labor in particular has been so far silent on the Amazon unions issue, as calls for Jeff Bezos, Amazon CEO, to allow for the formation of unions to protect the rights of Amazon workers continue to mount. To the surprise of many, on 12 April, Marty Walsh, United States Secretary of Labor, stated that the Department of Labor would be backing calls for the establishment of Amazon workers' unions, calling the establishment of unions 'necessary to ensure that the corporation in question follows ethical occupational strategies'. Sec. Walsh, himself a former union official, personally called on Bezos to 'do his fair share'. The announcement comes after the Biden administration announced a new plan to increase taxes on higher-income individuals.

Hypersonic missiles 'now a priority', US Air Force spokesperson says

WASHINGTON, D.C.- At a routine Pentagon press conference, the US Air Force official spokesperson was questioned regarding hypersonic missile developments in China, a strong American competitor in the East Asia sphere. The spokesperson stated that hypersonic missile technology development is 'now a priority' as 'the United States seeks to continually provide proper and adequate security to its allies and partners in the Asia Pacific region and elsewhere'. The Pentagon in recent months has raised alarm over Beijing's development of hypersonic missiles, which fly faster than other missiles and could potentially evade US anti-missile systems. The Pentagon has made it clear that the country's own hypersonic missile development programmes are being 'prioritized' and the upgrading of anti-missile systems to 'cope with renewed threats from possible enemies of the United States' are being taken care of.

The Prime Minister's Office

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reading the various English versions of different international newspapers to see what they are saying. He sees that the PRC and Turkey are at each other's throats over Turkey's recognition of Taiwan as an independent country and both nations have mobilized their militaries. The mobilization of the PRC's military has Narendra worried as India and China has had cold relations with each other since their last war with each other. Relations have only gotten worse since Xi Jinping took power and began a massive military buildup. In response, Modi was able to convince Parliament to increase the Indian defense budget to 2.5% of India's GDP. By 2022, that amounted to 305 billion USD allowing the Indian Armed Forces to expand greatly. Now India is considering on whether to join the F-35 program or create their own 5th gen fighter.

Official Press Release of the Office of Prime Minister of India

After seeing the ongoing events of the past couple of months, India has officially called on the PRC to stand down its military as India views the mobilization of the PLA and its various branches as an ongoing national security threat to the Federal Republic of India. Any move towards forcefully seizing Taiwan will result in India stepping in on Taiwan's side and causing a Second Sino- Indian War which I seriously doubt the PRC wants. To President Joe Biden, we ask that you back off as the Golan Heights is Israeli as they rightfully won the territory in their war with Syria in 1973. That has been our stance since 2014 and will remain so until further notice. Many countries around the world will condemn this move and that is their right but India has the right to make its own choices in foreign policy. The United Nations should never have interfered in the conflict and the SC regarding the Golan Heights was one of the biggest mistakes the United States had made during the Cold War. If the United States withdraws support of Israel then India will be happy to step in to fill the gap. India calls on the supporters of Israel in the American Congress to stop Biden from making a mistake he will come to regret later on. Biden's rhetoric only encourages Israel's enemies. As such, the INS Vikrant and its carrier battle group will deploy to the Eastern Med as a show of India's support to Israel. While the United States remains India's friend, Prime Minister Modi does not consider Mr. Biden due to his racist and apparently antisemitic ways his friend.
