Andromeda: Raider's Gambit (SciFi Character RP|IC, Open)

Hello everyone, and welcome to Raider’s Gambit. Raider’s Gambit is a character RP in which you play as the crew of the Misguided Faith, a heavy cruiser that turned to piracy instead of laying down her arms in the wake of losing her home. How will you seek adventure and riches as you ambush merchant ships, fight off the authorities, and out-maneuver ambitious rivals in the pieces of a shattered hegemon and states beyond its frontier? Who knows, you may just forge a legend when the dust settles. If you survive, of course.

This RP is a part of the Andromeda family of RPs, though there is absolutely no need to have read any of the others to participate here as this is a standalone RP in the setting.

This RP will remain open to newcomers. The Misguided Faith has a crew to pull from, and people freely leave and sign on as they please.

The wider Andromeda setting also has a Discord. It’s a good place to help find inspiration for a character concept, learn about the setting, or find help from the community as you are building a character for the RP. Or you can simply come and have a chat if you want. Our door is always open.

Taking a trading vessel from Ferahel was always a gamble, but they usually had the good sense to surrender instead of choosing to fight when given the choice. This time, however, the merchantmen had fired the first shot, leading to a fast, brutal battle once it became clear that the Misguided Faith was not going to be jumped by a task force.

Once aboard, there was a small but experienced force of majority Kiel Marines waiting trying to repel the boarding parties alongside mixed-species crew sailors who, while equipped for the task of repelling the boarding parties, proved entirely unwilling to die to the last man for their cargo. The crew of Misguided Faith seemed to luck out during the engagement, suffering no fatalities and about a dozen with assorted injuries.

While the tell-tale ozone from a fierce display of firepower still hung in the halls of the boarded ship, the fighting was mostly finished for Misguided Faith’s marines save for a squad of marines and the crew still sealed inside the bridge on the Commissar’s order. The orders for the crew of the Misguided Faith were simple, steal everything that wasn’t owned by most of the merchant crew, and get into the bridge, ideally without exposing the crew to unnecessary risk and without murdering the defenders.

Thellemnia Ashann went aboard the merchant vessel once the active fighting had wrapped up, passing the captured crew, primarily Shufrans and Kiels alike, as they were being marched to more controllable areas under the watchful eyes of the Misguided Faith’s marines. With every step she took towards the merchant ship’s bridge, the less obvious it had been that a fight had ever broken out in the ship.

The sounds of a few enterprising rummaging through assorted rooms for minor things to take were also apparent through the hallways, but she soon found them drowned out by the sound of the intercom crackling to life as she stopped by the group of marines on the entrance to the bridge.

“You are all cowards,” the voice, which Lady Ashann quickly guessed was the commissar, screamed in impotent rage over the speaker. The bridge had been locked out of pretty much all key functions at this point, and most everyone alive knew it. “Surrendering to such traitor scum. Dindriann will have you all in chains for this if you don’t fight these damned pirates!”

With a quick motion, Thelliemnia’s hand went to her own communicator.

“Can one of the engineers lock this bastard out of the intercom before he convinces someone to try something very stupid?” Ashann calmly ordered as she glared up at the speaker overhead.

She looked over the scattered marines with their improvised defenses around the main entrance to the bridge and softly sighed. “Does anyone have any ideas on getting through?”

Harak Helstran | Engineer of the Misguided Faith

"Ooohh, shinies... I'm keeping this one..."

Harak Helstran pored over what was one of the merchant ship officers' private collection, consisting mostly of jewelry. He had a few precious moments of vanity at times, trying on random accessories to see which ones were good on him. Most of the time, he didn't keep them, as these were sellable luxury goods and they needed money to keep their pirate cruiser running. In a few occasions, though, he would find just the right fit... by few occasions, it means literally just twice. He was... perfectionist, one might say.

"Hey, Kledahn.", the Kanorite engineer waved at the other pirate, a Kiel, that was taking things from the same room as he was. "You reckon that this nice golden bracelet fits me?"

"Who are you kidding?", the Kiel replied as he walked out. "You'll probably decide that it's a little off and not use it anyway."

Harak nodded, recalling his own quirks. "Right... sorry."

“Can one of the engineers lock this bastard out of the intercom before he convinces someone to try something very stupid?” Ashann calmly ordered as she glared up at the speaker overhead.

Sure enough, Harak heard the request of their most glorious redheaded XO. "Helstran here... fixing the problem right about... now." He began typing on one of the consoles, altering permissions so that the commissar that was currently screaming at the crew and the marines of this merchant ship to fight and die for the sake of their dear leader. The Jokarun was quite irritated that the commissar wanted the men and women under his command to fight on for some cargo and minimum wages... who would bother trying to die for a job that pays just enough to make basic needs meet?

Harak soon spoke through the airwaves once again. "The annoying little bastard is cut out from the intercom. I think."

Orau moved through the halls of the vessel, receiving strange looks from the captured crew being shuffled to elsewhere. Kiels and Suffrans alike would turn and spare glances for the strange being. Sensing this, Orau hastened her pace, her six limbs bounding up and down on the vessel's grey flooring, producing a telltale tick-tack sound. She didn't care to loot much, only carrying with her a few valuables she could pawn off for a quick, small buck. She'd have to work with the dividends she'd get from higher up the chain of command, those same higher ups, especially the pre-piracy old guard which would probably not be pleased with looting this Ferahel vessel's crew quarters, among other such qualms.

Hate to say this, she thought to herself, but not getting on their bad sides is perhaps the best way to go about this. Would attract unnecessary attention. There's always the next vessel.

Moving to the bridge, Orau found herself greeted by Lady Ashann, several other pirates, one Jokari included, and a guarded marine line blocking access to the bridge. There was of course also the commissar's announcement over the intercom. Immediately, she brainstormed, about how might one break the line. These guards were good, so a frontal assault would be futile. Judging by the, rather lackluster performance by the rest of the ship's crew however...

One of Orau's large, alien eyes swiveled to face something rather innocuous. A gated vent. Gauging its size, shape, and presumed strength, and recollecting past experience, she began to formulate a plan.

Send some of the smaller-dimensioned crewmates up the vent systems, me included maybe. Would likely be too small for average kieloid, and perhaps even me. Drop into bridge from behind, and eliminate commissar. Judging by previous performance of other crew members, the marine line should capitulate following this. However, there is no telling what is behind that closed door. Could be the commissar, could be the commissar and twenty other marines. If latter, then means to quickly neutralize all targets at once is needed. High powered weapons are not on person, and handing them to others is not going to be an option. Will need other means..

"Sir," curtly announced Orau. "I have an idea. It will need some of the smaller crewmates, and suitably powerful explosives." She gestured with one of two front limbs, pointing towards a gated vent.

Secondary Boarding Team
Securing Merchant Vessel
Cdr. Thellemnia Ashann present

Tzeraspnir Mdthythaerin had a purposeful stride as he moved in step behind Ashann. Older and taller than the younger Kiel, he wore neither the haphazzard wear that some of the other crew had adopted, nor the identifiable uniform of the old Ferahel military; rather a long-necked black military jumpsuit scoured of insignia. The sort that could double as EVA-wear if needed. The cowl that could be drawn over his head hung behind his neck. The emergency air cylinder, along with a late period Ragon Wars service pistol, hung from the belt at his waist.

Despite not having any defined role or responsibilities aboard the Resolute, Tzeraspnir was never shy in sharing his opinion on how things were going or giving orders. "Fucking shambles." He declared irritably as he observed the looting occurring. "Cargo holds are down a deck! We're here to loot Dindriann's fucking cargo you miserable ratfucks, not rob the deckhands blind!" He'd said, banging a flashlight against bulkheads as the boarding command team made their way towards the bridge, making a terrific racket and sending several enlisted ranks scattering. "Get your asses down there!"

When the commissar's voice began drowning out his own, Tzeraspnir just looked even more annoyed. A look that only grew in intensity as the contents of the message came spilling out.

When the intercom finally died, Tzeraspnir gave a notable sigh of relief just as they rounded a corner and were greeted by the contingent of marines that had the commissar and company holed up on the bridge. "Balls of fucking steel on that one." He said to the marines and the rest of the command contingent present. "Imagine having the fucking nerve to spew that shite while you're holed up cowering in a fucking panic room. Miserable little shit."

Danubian Peoples wrote:"Sir," curtly announced Orau. "I have an idea. It will need some of the smaller crewmates, and suitably powerful explosives." She gestured with one of two front limbs, pointing towards a gated vent.

Tzeras looked to Orau, then to Ashann. "Where'd we get this one?" Then back to Orau, a smile on his lips. "There's some fucking initiative! Much as I'd sorely like to blast that commissar fuckwit to death though - and I betcha a drink Lady Ashann he's one of yours by the way - for now, if ya can fit, I'd be tickled fucking pink you could just get eyes on that bridge for us. Maybe see if a datalink can eavesdrop. Love to hear what they got to say about the fucking predicament they got themselves into. Your call though Lady Ashann. Meantime..."

Trailing off and stepping aside Tzersaspnir tapped the datalink on his wrist, calling up Herak Helstran directly. "Bang up job there Helstran. Can hear myself fucking think again: we all fucking owe you a drink the way I figure it. For the bonus round though, what do you suppose odds are you can patch that intercom over our way?" Tapping the datalink off again, he turned back to rest of the team standing outside the bridge. "Think it's high time we had a word with the crew and the dear commissar ourselves, yeah?"

Ko’kwunu Yiska
Prisoner Guard

"I would kill you if I had the chance, Pirate," a dazed marine muttered to the medic, watching him with tired eyes as the Ke'oi carefully cut around the fiber mesh that failed to protect him from their blasters. Burned to a mix of ash and charred material, it was a dirty wound that would require surgery to heal, but he didn't have the time or patience for someone that had made themselves an enemy. He was lucky enough to have survived the sustained fire, and even luckier to have Ko assigned to guard them.

Meeting the Kiel's words with a smirk, and a half chortle, he answered lightly, "You are not the first to say that, my friend." Lifting an aerosol in hand from his medical kit, Ko began to spray it over the man's wound, causing him to recoil in pain as the disinfectant kicked in. Following the pain was a sense of relief as a cool foam expanded around his burns, giving him a layer that should buy him enough time for their medical to treat him later.

"This profession tends to carry a grudge, so when you make it out of here, you are always welcome to try," he'd add, moving to his feet while showing off the Kiel's wallet, "And as you know, treatment isn't free, so I expect an honest man such as yourself to pay your debts."
Miss me with your bs

Captain Aurelia Lorcan

Aurelia kicked open footlocker after footlocker, tossing each one over and viewing its spilled contents with disgust. Most of them contained relatively modest knickknacks or affects, which she had no interest in. There were a few pieces of jewelry to be had, which she quickly pocketed. She'd have to look at them later to see if they were authentic or not. On a ship like this, she expected the majority of them to be counterfeit so she wasn't holding her breath for a major haul of precious stones. The real issue she had though, was in the wardrobe. Her expectations for the regular crew were low, but the jumpsuits she saw hanging there were downright hideous.

She threw them all out onto the floor, hoping to find something better hidden in the back, but to no avail. In a way she almost felt pity for this crew. They were forced to wear such dreadful uniforms, now they were fighting and some of them were dying, meaning they might even be buried in them? Truly a tragedy.

She exited into the hallway holding a hanger at arm's length, not letting it touch her. "Have you seen the absolute state of these outfits?" she asked to the assembled group. "I think it might be more illegal than anything we're doing today." as she was speaking, the intercom came to life and someone was angrily ranting about not surrendering and being a coward, but she didn't really pay attention much. They all started to blend together after a while. She drew her pistol and shot it at the intercom, disabling it. "Honestly, the nerve of some people. You come here to rob them, and they get so uptight about it." she shook her head and dropped the hanger, stepping back so the jumpsuit wouldn't land on her boots.

"So, Thelma," the captain began, "Give everyone on the other side of the door a nice little scare. Have the plasma cutters brought up. I know it will take too long, but they don't. Make 'em sweat a little."

Chira bet Zimir
The Misguided Faith

With her eyes closed, Chira could see the dancing strands of hyperspace flickering all around her. A lattice formed from the unexplainable tides and currents of that alternate reality, that unveiled itself before her eyes. Each filament represented a potential route: a clearing in the interstellar forest, or perhaps a gust of wind that promised to carry them safely across its waves. Some of them shone with the brilliance of an elongated star, the safe and stable hyperlanes that formed the backbone of commerce. Others existed more tenuously, bursting into existence from the chaotic motions around them before dissipating once more into the churn. And between these two extremes was a spectrum of stability, with every strand shifting and flowing of its own accord. It was beautiful. Breathtaking.

“Navigator, any signs of party crashers?”

Blinking her eyes open, Chira offered the kiel officer a quick glance. He was standing at the helm, the rapidly cooling cup of caff held loosely in his hand as his eyes ran across the main viewscreen. Most of the Faith’s upper command had gone over to the merchant ship after the fighting had died down, leaving a skeleton crew to monitor the situation from the bridge. Some of those instructed to stay behind had bristled at the command, feeling like they were being cheated of their chance at the loot. But the current ranking officer didn’t seem to mind. Chira was pretty sure that he was one of the older members of the crew, although she’d never gotten around to asking directly.

“No, I haven’t seen anything yet.” Chira’s fingers darted across the controls. Despite her protective suit, she had little trouble manipulating the display. Information from the ship’s sensors streamed directly through her neural interface, sharpening and focusing the view of hyperspace in her mind’s eye. She concentrated on the closer hyperlanes, until she could see small pulses of light steadily moving along their lengths. Ships in transit, potentially close enough to have picked up the merchant’s last cry for help. “I'm not picking up any vessels vectoring to our position.”

“Alright. Keep an eye on the scopes, then.” The kiel replied, taking another sip from his mug. He frowned as he monitored the chatter coming from the boarding party. Apparently there were some holdouts still manning the bridge.

Shit, this is taking too long. He didn’t like sitting still like this, even if the yudieth could give them some early warning of any heroes coming over the horizon. Glancing over to the alien’s station, he saw that she’d once again closed her eyes even while her gloved hands continued to move across her console. They’d picked her up from a recent mission, with her service apparently coming as part of the payment. She hadn’t been much of a talker, keeping either to her room or her station most of the time. He’d heard the stories about what her kind were capable of, but he’d also been around long enough to treat any story with a healthy dose of skepticism. If she were wrong, and a hostile ship just blinked into the system, they’d have precious little time to bring the boarding parties back in time for the lightshow.

The Mess Hall

Uncharacteristically for a merchant ship, the mess hall was empty. Granted, there was a small coeloidic kieloid with a headset that was blasting Dok music at the highest volume dancing across a wall with a spray paint can in each hand and illustrating a stylised scene of an octopus tackling a Kiel while two stars shone on either side, not to mention what appeared to be the mess hall’s staff, who happened to be unconscious, tied into chairs in a circle, and bearing tentacle marks on their necks. Suddenly, the small Kolmoik stopped dancing around and painting. She touched her headset with two tentacles, pausing the music with one and evidently activating her mic with the other.

“Hēthēt,” she chirped in response to her commander, “Four blink, Lamio, you will see me!”

Sure enough, Dila practically appeared behind Maelamiory, holding out every weapon she had on her person.

“What weapon will I bring in the vent?” she asked, “Does anybody know how many to fight on the next side? And how many to kill? Or do I kill all?”

Ozeize Vux

The blue mercenary leaned against the wall, blaster at the ready, though not pointed at anyone in particular. Her eyes scanned the various prisoners, looking for signs that they might know something she was interested in. The rest of her squad was assisting in moving the primary target loot. Ko was nearby, patching up a rather ungrateful prisoner. Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

Her squad was a good bunch, though they generally didn't interact very well with xenos unless they were holding the purse. Which generally left her in charge of dealing with the various aliens of this part of space in a more diplomatic manner.

Suddenly, a booming voice rattled over the ship's intercom, impotently raging against the crew for making the smart decision. Seeing the chance to gain some intel, Ozeize spoke up. "That your captain? Sounds like a real ball-buster if you ask me." she asked, to nobody in particular, and simultaneously anyone who cared to answer.

A shufran dressed in a fluid stained drab jumpsuit, typical of the merchant crew, glared at the blue-skinned mercenary before deciding to speak-up. "That's the damned commissar we've been assigned, apparently the marshal thinks it will encourage us to put up a fight for his cargo. The captain obviously didn't want to fight fucking cruiser in a freighter, but some of his thugs seized the bridge."

Lady Thelliemnia Ashann of Erdundre

Thelliemnia Ashann remained quiet as Tzeraspinir loosed his rage on the assorted crew more busy looting the quarters than the hold. She certainly agreed with the older man in practice and his explosive rage certainly proved useful at times. This wasn't because Lady Ashann's voice was far too soft to shout over people. The former gunner actually had quite the shout when the situation called for it, but Tzeraspinir's presence generally meant she could save her voice for when people absolutely to pay attention.

"One of Dindriann's rats have found himself cornered," Ashann calmly added. A frown had formed on her face as she glared at the door to the bridge. Someone holed up in there had shot the camera, leaving the crew blind and making Ashann very hesitant to brute force her way through the problem. "And," she continued, "he knows we have all the reasons in the galaxy to kill him when our business here is finished. Surrendering with out an actual battle was never an option for him, only the fool thinks we're going to give him his glorious last stand and let him meet Rhustus with some honor left."

"Explosives are not an option. Things are easier if we don't kill the Captain, but going in through the vents isn't a terrible idea." Ashann replied.

Tzeras, meanwhile, managed seemed to strike a nerve, earning him a sharp glare from the much shorter aristocrat. "I assure you, that fool isn't one of my people. That upstart marshal never cared for us, even as someone's staff on Relenar, and I am led to believe it wasn't an unpopular opinion for allegedly self-made men."

The scream of a blaster shot interrupted the chance of an argument forming, and Thellmiemnia snapped to face it.

"Cut the door slowly, Divaacu," Ashann ordered as she once again turned to the line of void-troops that waited for their orders. "It's just a distraction for Dila once she gets here, we've done this before."

"As for the rest of you, stay alert. We wouldn't want to be overwhelmed if they are dumb enough to open their only cover." she addressed the rest of Maelamiory's men.

After a few minutes, Dila's presence was a welcome one to avoid turning this into drawn-out siege.

"We are blind, but we want you to correct that. We will decide what to do from there." Ashann said as she bend down, though she was keen to at least maintain a semblance of eye contact as she opened her ankle holster. Drawing her hold-out pistol, a small, sleek little gun, she offered it to the Kolmoik. "This should easily fit in the vent, but it only has six shots. Take a flashbang with you as well."

With both the towering, pointy eared politician and the redhead second in command of their merry pirate crew telling him to do this one thing, Harak hurried over to one of the consoles that was embedded on the corridor's left wall. It was pretty much the same as the other consoles placed on the important locations in this merchant vessel... and accessing the intercom for the sake of his benefactors from here should be an easy job. It was just basic to do that, really. Not like he has to hack a highly encrypted network similar to the likes of banking databanks.

Quietly, Harak inserted a datapad into the console through a flash drive port, and dived right into the connections that ran all over the merchant ship. A few more buttons were pressed, and the process of patching the intercom towards their side was soon underway. Just as the other man said... a bang up job.

"That should do it in a few moments.", Harak said as he stood up from his rather hunched posture. "We'll be in within the minute."

Ithia Kanzima

"Don't worry, it wears off after a couple of hours," Ithia assured the captured crew member who was, currently, writhing about on the floor of the room they were holding the prisoners in. He looked like he was dying, though the only sign of injury was a small hole in the arm of his uniform and a dark stain around it. He'd bled, though it didn't look like he was still bleeding.

He'd assumed that Ithia would be an easy person to wrestle a gun off. He'd seen a small, green kieloid and made the perfectly logical assumption based off that. He had now discovered that she was also venomous. Next time he saw a berdikon (which probably wasn't all that likely), he would know better. For now though, it hurt. She could sympathise, having been stuck by others of her kind as an adolescent.

Bingellia wrote:“You are all cowards,” the voice, which Lady Ashann quickly guessed was the commissar, screamed in impotent rage over the speaker. The bridge had been locked out of pretty much all key functions at this point, and most everyone alive knew it. “Surrendering to such traitor scum. Dindriann will have you all in chains for this if you don’t fight these damned pirates!”

"If he wasn't probably going to get a lot of your people injured or killed unnecessarily, I'd say he's funny. The stuff we are relieving you off can be replaced, your lives can't," she remarked to the captives, "And it's remarkably easy to make a big song and dance about how cowardly everyone else is, when you're holed up where nobody can get to you," she tsked, tossing her head and rolling her eyes.

Bingellia wrote:
Grenartia wrote:Suddenly, a booming voice rattled over the ship's intercom, impotently raging against the crew for making the smart decision.

"A sensible choice on the part of your Captain," Ithia nodded, "I fought over a ship and lost once," she reminisced, "I got put in a zoo. A zoo. I guess it wasn't so bad though, considering the alternatives."

She sighed. The captives didn't really seem in the mood for conversation, which she supposed was understandable given their situation, though it didn't make guarding them all that interesting. She reached for her intercom, "Hey Commander, if you think this will turn into hand-to-hand combat, you can number me as a volunteer," she paused, before adding, "That's Ithia Kanzima," just in case the Commander had forgotten who she was, "the green one."

That ought to do it. Hopefully the Commander remembered she was useful in that kind of scenario.

Pānddàuddlâ “Dila” Ýagàm Ghhómláixàahěeddkàe
Vents

As Ashann offered her a flashbang and a pistol, Dila dropped her other weapons and emptied her belt of things that weren’t grenades (an act which, though nonetheless fast, took just long enough that it was somewhat comical), made a small salute, and then took the weapons from Ashann’s hands. With one of her tentacles, she showed another flashbang. Her tentacles almost involuntarily had a few waves of blue blink through, from the base to the tips as she stowed them both on her belt as a smirk appeared on her face, and she turned on her headset to keep the mic on manually so that anyone who desired could head what she heard. Just as she was about to crawl into the vent, she suddenly stopped and gave a slight gasp. She sat down for a moment and directed her audio to Harak.

“Sir, can you turn off all lights in the bridge? If not, I will lack orange, but please try!”

After awaiting a response, she looked back to the others and opened her lower pair of eyes more widely. Pointing two fingers at them, she said “No light, I will see, they will not see.”

With that established to Dila’s satisfaction, she began her journey into the vents, headfirst. With little space, she was stuck in a commando crawl, but thanks to her tentacles, she was able to drag herself forward much more quickly than most other kieloids in her position would be able to. After a few false starts from vents that she couldn’t get clear sight through due to obstructions, Dila found her way to a vent that was positioned on the ceiling, and pressed her face up against it to peer through. She checked her count several times over, and then whispered into her mic.

“We have six enemies, angry commissar is still in there,” she said, “Tell me when it is flashbang’s time.”

Delicately, she wriggled a few tentacles through the vent to try and begin the process of detaching the vent cover so she could drop a flashbang in at a moment’s notice.

The Misguided Faith - Gymnasium
Atilia "Ati" Vetui - A sort-of engineer in a surprisingly saturated job market for one single vessel
__________________________________

THE MACHINE DARES. IT WILL NEVER, IT MUST NEVER, IT SHALL NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER.

Words are hardly ever enough to describe the orchestra of brain signals that can very easily tame one's mind during a stressful moment, but whatever was currently going on... It was loud, and annoying.

NEED MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE. Whatever it was, it faded into something that could only be described as white noise. With each word from the intercom, her mind's own blaring speech got louder and louder. "Shut the fuck up... I'm working on it." From an exterior perspective, Ati had said that to no one in particular, the engineer supporting herself on the wall as she attempted to make her way through the gymnasium and to a locker that she used as her de facto secondary storage.

Atilia was part of the unenviable dozen to have been "injured" to some capacity in the latest fighting, if one considered a disabled prosthetic to be an injury, though deactivating that weapons system had hopefully been worth the bullet. Unfortunately, said projectile happened to have hit the engineer's prosthetic arm at just the right angle to ruin the load of landarane that was meant to have lasted months. Although usually capable of going a week on low supply without any major symptoms, the sudden, total loss of the drug responsible for preventing biological rejection of the prosthetic triggered an almost immediate onset of withdrawal. Trembling joints, an ever-shrinking field of vision that saw nothing but how to get the next hit, and in her head was...
An unwanted guest.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. OI, ATI... ATI! GO HELP THAT CUSTOMER, BUT DON'T OVERCHARGE HIM, ALRIGHT? HE'S OUR FOLK. THE REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR HIS MODEL SHOULD BE SOMEWHERE IN SECTOR 3.

Tormenting her conscious was one thing, scavenging her memories for her father's voice was another. Ati briefly closed her eyes. "Shut up, shut up, shut up, I'll get the stuff, alright?!" The dialogue with seemingly no one continued. Having finally arrived at the locker, the shakiness of Ati's hands were no obstacle to swiftly getting hold of one of the vials of green liquid. Quickly picking out leftover shards from the vial that had been shot, Atilia inserted the new unit of the drug into its appropriate slot on the prosthetic arm, the glowing green oil spreading through its appropriate channels. Peace.

As the annoying white noise evaporated from her mind, her peripheral vision was back, and the prosthetic arm finally felt hers again, much like the restored blood flow to a numb arm. Ati took a deep breath, enjoying the newfound peace she so often took for granted.
...
...
A loud bang was heard as the frustrated engineer closed the locker with the prosthetic powered by the recently acquired crackhead might of a thousand junkies, the poor structure acquiring quite a lot more than a permanent dent. Staring down at the now fully-functional arm, Ati's face changed into repressed, albeit unmistakable ire. "...alright, screw this." Obviously secondary to her needing to shoot up, the crew was still dealing with a situation, so maybe she should go help with that.

-----------------

Ati walked into wherever the captives were being held, pupils dilated, wrench in hand, and fancy LED coat hanging off from her shoulders. Immediately upon entering, she could feel the negative mood of that place hit her like a lead pipe to the face, something that was understandable given their... predicament. "Gentlemen! I appreciate you having made the correct decision. All is going swimmingly well, see? Except for your fucking braindead of a... Uh... Whoever the intercom fella is, but hey, cheer up! You're all doing great, mostly.." Despite having her own personal reason to hate Dindriann, she knew better than to channel that towards anything but the man himself and his associates.

Meantime...

"Explosives are not an option. Things are easier if we don't kill the Captain, but going in through the vents isn't a terrible idea." Ashann replied.

"Understood," stated Orau in response. Now, peering harder at the vent, Orau deduced that it wouldn't be practical to try and jam her down there. While she wasn't exactly large, she wasn't exactly small either. Someone smaller though, that might just work. There are perhaps over a dozen intelligent species with members occupying the Misguided Faith, and at least one of them is probably small enough to cram through that vent, she reasoned. Now, whether or not they're participating in this pirating excursion, on the other hand..

“What weapon will I bring in the vent?” she asked, “Does anybody know how many to fight on the next side? And how many to kill? Or do I kill all?”

And lo and behold, there was someone smaller. Orau herself had some reservations, she wasn't exactly familiar with Kolomik biology but from eyeballing their dimensions and those of the ventilation shaft, she got the impression this one would be a very tight squeeze down the shaft. Regardless, she heeded her confidence. She did get the green light from a superior, after all. They must know what they're doing, reasoned Orau. No one can possibly be that stupid and be here. Still a bit skeptical though, she continued to watch the Kolomik.

Orau watched as Dila began to enter the ventilation shaft. It wasn't exactly easy to make out, but Orau managed to catch a glimpse of the Kolomik bending-no, deforming so as to fit into the shaft's width before finally vanishing into the ventilation system's bowels. She made a clicking sound in response, clasping the hard teeth of her facial tentacles together. To Xaroans, it meant something like a "mm-hmm," a "woah," an "ugh," and a few other meanings, sometimes all at once, depending on the context.

Kiellar space, you never cease to surprise, Orau thought to herself. That was indeed, something she found very true. Ever since she'd crossed into this empire's grave, she's found nothing but surprises. It was as if the grave were exhumed, its contents devoured by twenty different species of scavenger, who then proceeded to turn upon and tear at each other, attracting more ravenous forms whose presence itself then invited even more predators, the feedback loop continuing until a planet's worth of biomass is fighting and festering at the gravesite.

As Dila moved out of view and into the labyrinthine vents, Orau turned her attention back to the wall. Keenly, she waited, blaster trained in its direction. Something she felt, was without a doubt going to happen.

Captain Aurelia Lorcan

As the crew set about to cracking the bridge, Aurelia's attention was fading. Without hesitation or permission, she grabbed Ashann around the shoulders with a sense of familiarity that was not shared between the two. "While this is being sorted, I'm going to go interrogate some prisoners, see what they know about the route and cargo, get some up to date intel about the situation planetside, maybe have some fun while I'm at it. Come find me before you get into the captain's quarters—or if you want to join in." she said with a grin and released the shorter kiel before wandering away from the door. "Don't go in there without me Thelly, you'll break my heart." she said teasing.

The selection of prisoners that had been taken so far were either averting eye contact with the Dyndrel or staring daggers at her as paced in front of them with her saber drawn. "Ladies and gentlemen, as you might has guessed, this is a robbery." she made grand motions as she spoke, barely even looking at the people she was addressing. "We'll be relieving you of your valuables, and if you behave yourselves, not your lives. You can call me Captain Aurelia." She paused in front of one female kiel that was looking down at the floor. Aurelia placed the tip of her sword under her chin and lifted it up so their eyes met. "But you can call me tonight." she said looking her over before moving on as the kiel looked disgusted.

"Now, we're only interested in what's in your hull, but since we're here, you can also help us out with a little bit of information that is of no significance to you. My colleagues are going to ask you a few questions and I encourage you to be as helpful as possible, and I'll be sure to look favorably on you." She walked back up the line to the female kiel she had bothered earlier. "I think I'll question you myself, though." she said, taking ahold of her arm. "Shall we go somewhere more private?" she asked as the captain started leading the struggling merchant away from the group.

"Don't go in there without me Thelly, you'll break my heart." she said teasing.

Ashann's face contorted into a scowl as Aurelia grabbed her from behind. Ashann stiffened instinctively and balled her fist as a bitter mixture of anger and disgust mixed within her, but she knew a physical confrontation was likely not an option. Instead, she took a long deep breath as the woman said her piece, which she did not even dignify with a verbal response, and offered her an icy death glare as she left the various crewmates at the bridge to their task.

Khasinkonia wrote:“We have six enemies, angry commissar is still in there,” she said, “Tell me when it is flashbang’s time.”

"Five marines and a useless Commissar," Lady Ashann said aloud as weighed the odds in her mind. "We need to hit them hard and fast if they don't surrender before we flash them."

Dyelli Beybi wrote:She sighed. The captives didn't really seem in the mood for conversation, which she supposed was understandable given their situation, though it didn't make guarding them all that interesting. "Kanzima," Thellemnia radioed out, "We'll need you up here if we need to storm the bridge. It's better to make it hurt than to kill them."

Taking a breath, she steeled herself as she connected to the ship's intercom with a few taps on her data. "Gods make this easy,"

"As I am sure you have probably guessed, we are not your typical pirate crew," Ashann began, not hesitating as she heard her own voice in the hall.

"So allow me the privilege of introducing myself, I am Lady Thelliemnia Ashann of Erdundre. It is my deepest regret that we need to take such hostile actions against our own countrymen, but I need to keep my people fed as an illegal regime has occupied our homes, killed my family, and proclaimed me an outlaw. I hope you will cooperate with us to spare any further bloodshed, as nobody else needs to die for the cargo for a marshal who does not care for you in the slightest. Please remember, the sooner we are finished, the sooner you all can return home."

"For those still trying to resist by force of arms, I give you my word that no harm will come to you if you surrender now. This is a promise I have made many times in the past, and I have stayed true to the honor of my house. Please accept my mercy while you can, for the gods cannot save you from my fury."

The Bridge Crew

A pale red Suffran, whose dress marked him as the Captain, was clearly tired of the situation that had been thrust upon his lap by the Commissar's actions and had silently been watching the crew slowly cut through the doors onto his bridge. The pleas of the crew had fallen onto deaf ears, so there was little to do besides glare at the Kiel who had landed him here.

The Commissar was dressed in a dark service uniformed complete with a slightly ornate peaked cap, as one would have expected from a junta being run by former Command Command, and the dark-skinned Kiel would have cut an imposing figure in it if it were not for the fact that the man was anxiously pacing along the bridge.

When the intercom once again crackled to life and they listened to Ashann's speech, the crew seemed to perk up earning the attention of two of the Marines, who turned their blasters to dissuade the bridge crew from trying anything funny, though, like their officer, their shakey expression clearly communicated a sense of dread as the torches worked their way through the bridge doors.

"Odra, please," the captain finally broke the silence between the two nominally equal officers. "Don't be a damned fool here. Surrender to them, your marshal doesn't care if you live or die, and you know they are going to kill you if you don't as a traitor to the Republic. You have a chance to walk away from this."

"Enough," Odra barked out, "I'll shoot you for fucking treason if you try to speak up again."

"This whole charade has gone on long enough and you know it unless you are looking for pirate-assisted suicide" the captain retorted. "It was your men to force mine to pick a fight with a cruiser. The dead are on you, and you're a failure of an officer. Is that why you defected, you bastard, the Republic wouldn't keep men like you in the ranks?"

"I'm not going to be lectured by a damned civilian who has never fought for a cause in his life!"

Chira bet Zimir
The Misguided Faith

While Chira wasn’t involved with the final preparations to stamp out the holdouts on the merchantman’s bridge, she was nevertheless able to follow along with events through the trickle of overheard updates and messages flowing back to the Faith. She tried not to intrude too much on the back-and-forth between the bridge staff and the boarding party, but it was impossible to entirely ignore her niggling curiosity. There were only so many times that she could scan the surrounding hyperlanes before the task veered towards monotony. And so Chira directed only a sliver of her attention to monitoring their local bubble of hyperspace, on the off chance that by some miracle a ship running quiet had slipped beneath her notice. Instead, the majority of her conscious thought was directed towards the information - hacked or captured - that the boarding party were streaming back from their latest prize.

The blocks of data floated past her awareness haphazardly, trickling by in stops and starts as the crew worked their way through the captured ship’s memory banks. Some of them were effectively whole, although those blocks of flickering light were unlikely to be of any interest. Rather, Chira focused her efforts on the segments of data that came to her in damaged, disjointed chunks, or that recoiled away from her attention - guarded by some form of encryption that the Faith’s automated protocols had yet to entirely breach. She occupied herself by guiding fractured pieces of information back together, or by coaxing the unthinking encryption programs into letting down their guard. Many pieces of data were beyond her capabilities - either too well secured for now, or far too damaged to ever be reformed into something comprehensible - but even relatively unimportant records could prove useful to the boarding party.

Chira frowned. That’s what she really hoped this endeavour would be: useful. She’d offered to fly with the Faith in order to repay them for what they’d done for her family, but so far she feared that she was proving to be more of a burden than a boon. She knew that it wasn’t easy for a kieloid ship to house one of her kind, and that plenty of accommodations had been made to keep her comfortably aboard. In exchange, all she’d offered to the crew so far were some slightly faster jump calculations, and an extra pair of eyes watching for pursuers who were woefully unlikely to ever appear: their quarries rarely had the chance to send out a buoy with a distress message. Chira knew that she could offer more, if only she were allowed to do so.

A segment of data slid into place, fitting as satisfyingly as the last piece of a multi-dimensional puzzle. Pushing her thoughts to one side, Chira grinned as she assessed the merchantman’s now complete cargo manifest. This would help the boarding party, she presumed. Surely knowing what their prize was carrying would help them prioritize their efforts? Packaging the data, Chira was about to send the manifest back across the ship’s network when a particular item caught her eye. Blinking in the real world rather than in the digital domain she’d been inhabiting, Chira had to check to make sure that he hadn’t misread the data.

Should she message the Captain? No. The woman wouldn’t want to be interrupted. Especially if it turned out that Chira was mistaken.

“Lady Ashann?” Chira began, having opened a channel to the Faith’s second in command. “I have…found something interesting in the merchant’s manifest. I believe that you should take a look.”

Securing Merchant Vessel
Cdr. Thellemnia Ashann, Pānddàuddlâ “Dila” Ýagàm Ghhómláixàahěeddkàe, Orau Haron, Maelamiory Divaacu present

"Hmph!" Tzeraspnir declared standing next to Orau. His head cocked a little sideways as Dila squeezed into the vent as though he couldn't quite believe what he was seeing as Dila promptly disappeared from view. Shaking his head, he turned around to head back towards the captain and XO when his datalink lit up with a communique from Harak.

Europa Undivided wrote:"That should do it in a few moments.", Harak said as he stood up from his rather hunched posture. "We'll be in within the minute."

"Great job Harak." Tzeraspnir replied. "I take back every vile word I ever said about ya." He made a point of glancing towards the captain a moment, before her studious disinterest caused him to turn to Ashann instead - at which point he transferred access to the ship's PA system to her datalink then keyed his own comms again. "Anyone down..."

Bingellia wrote:Ashann's face contorted into a scowl as Aurelia grabbed her from behind. Tzeraspnir's voice didn't miss a beat as he saw what was happening, though whatever goodwill had been on his face talking to Harak quickly drained away back to usual icy glower. "... in engineering? How soon before we can get this bucket moving? And what about this cargo? Do we know what it is? Is moving already? Does it even fucking exist? Maybe someone should to look into that?"

Captain Lorcan was already moving away as he drew up and paused next to Ashann, fixing Lorcan with an icy gaze as she left. While he said nothing, he did a quick look around the area to see who they had with them. Or perhaps, more accurately, to assess how many witnesses were present. Almost all were Ferahel military marines and jumpers. Solid types. Seemingly satisfied with what he saw he shot a questioning, sideways glance at Ashann - as though asking for permission - and was somewhat disappointed she didn't respond with a perfunctory nod.

Bingellia wrote:"Five marines and a useless Commissar," Lady Ashann said aloud as weighed the odds in her mind. "We need to hit them hard and fast if they don't surrender before we flash them."

"Kanzima," Thellemnia radioed out, "We'll need you up here if we need to storm the bridge. It's better to make it hurt than to kill them."

Tzeraspnir seemed uncharacteristically preoccupied watching Lorcan disappear down the corridor. An unfamiliar observer might have been forgiven for thinking he was giving Lorcan a taste of her own medicine. The truth was, more and more Tzeraspnir was starting to believe that every day that nod didn't come, a debt was accruing that would have to be paid in blood. Recovering from that revelation, he snapped back to reality, looking around at the handful of marines closest to him.

"We just going to let our captain go wandering off alone on a hostile fucking ship are we?!" He boomed.

"No sir!" Looking amongst themselves, their eyes collectively settled on the most junior among their number. A young kiel woman. Tall. Red hair done up in a tightly coiled bun. The look in her eyes was like he'd just signed her death warrant, but like a good marine she started off down the corridor anyway. Before Tzeraspnir's hand caught her by the shoulder.

"Not you!" He said in an exasperated tone as he steered her by her shoulder in a circle back to her original firing position. "Obviously." Searching around the marines, he fixed on the first familiar face he found among them instead, who looked back at Tzeraspnir with an expression that clearly said: Fuck my life.

Leaning in close to the man, Tzeraspnir growled in a low tone. "You keep an eye on her. Last thing we fucking need is more rumours going around that we're abusing fucking prisoners. Stick to her. Like glue."

"Fuck me." The marine replied in lieu of a yes sir, before clanking off down the corridor trying to catch up with Captain Lorcan.

Tzeraspnir turned back around and seemed to rejoin what was happening, jumping back on comms. "Ko, likely use a medic up here as well. Might be we're about to shoot some folk. Be a cryin' shame they didn't get proper medical care."

Bentus wrote:“Lady Ashann?” Chira began, having opened a channel to the Faith’s second in command. “I have…found something interesting in the merchant’s manifest. I believe that you should take a look.”

Waltzing back past trolling past Ashann to where Maelamiory Divaacu was cutting through the door. "You want to look into that, I'll kick off these negotiations. I'll be gentle with them, I promise."

Tapping Maelamiory on the shoulder he gave a short cutting motion with his hand to indicate he wanted her to take a break from the door. Using the flashlight he'd been using earlier, he started pounding it against the bulkhead.

"Ahoy in there!" He yelled. "Looks like you fellas are in a bit of a predicament. Someone in charge in there maybe want to talk about that?"

Demencia wrote:"Now, we're only interested in what's in your hull, but since we're here, you can also help us out with a little bit of information that is of no significance to you.

As befitting her rank, Captain Lorcan was accompanied by a marine escort that said and did nothing as she dragged the struggling merchant away from the group, but nonetheless silently dogged their steps.

Maelamoiry Divaacu,

Using the moment of pause from cutting down the door while Tzeraspnir tried to reason with the Commisar again, she came up with a plan.

"Dila are the Marines in the bridge not wearing mag boots and are the bridge crew belted down in their chairs? If so Harak, can you access the gravity and navigational controls? My plan is to dip the nose of the ship down by 45 degrees and rotate the ship on the central axis by the same amount and turn her to Port by maybe 15, it's worth a try, with the hope it will throw off the marines guns as they float. I hope everyone else can find something to brace on. Void Borne turn on your mag boots, in case we can do this. We'll need to get good timing on this, so they get knocked around and flash banged before I get the rest of this door cut. Lady Ashann, may you work the coordination?"

Dila took a moment to respond as she took stock of the present marines only after she finished removing the cover. She left it hanging open, gently letting it open with two tentacles, and then peaked over the edge again. After ensuring everyone wasn’t wearing magnetic boots, she whispered into the mic again.

“All of them stand; three marines have no magnetic boots,” she paused for a moment, “Commissar wants to fight but captain has no colour; possibly we can negotiate.”

Cowritten by Bingellia, Khasinkonia, and Tesserach.

Tzeraspnir broke in, his voice a hoarse whisper over the comms. "We go in together or not at all. We wait on Lady Ashann's go ahead. Anyone jumps the gun, I will personally skull-drag them back to the ship myself."

Meanwhile his face propped up against the door - after listening through one of the seams Maelamiory had cut through the door - he addressed the bridge again.

"Odra, was it? I hear that right?" He called through the door, pausing to see if he got a response this time.

"Tell me, what did those miserable cunts you call 'superiors' say to you that's got you looking to die so fucking badly?

"Seems to me they gave you, what? A handful of marines, some blasters - now they expect you to run screaming at a Ferahel heavy cruiser? I applaud your fucking enthusiasm - I do - but I think now might be the time for us all to lower our weapons, use our words..."

Tzeraspnir paused looking back at the rest of the breaching team, giving a look, as though to say: check out the shit coming out of my lips right now.

"...and give peace a chance."

Lady Ashann gave Tzeraspnir a sideways glance as he attempted negotiations, but remained quiet. There was little need to barrage the bridge crew further, and she had given them her ultimatum.

There was, at first, some muffled shouting back and forth from the bridge before the sound of boots echoed through the seam.

"You think I haven't heard the stories? I know how you bastards play," the voice frantically answered, "Your little experiment with democracy died, and you just want revenge. I open these doors and that Ashann bitch will just put me against the wall for her family or you'll do it for some dead government."

Listening intently, his head near the seam of the door, Tzeraspnir looked back at the rest of the assault team. He whispered over his ear piece comms while Odra was yelling back. "Everyone make sure you got somewhere to go if they start rolling fucking grenades."

He assessed his own escape options, made sure if the door popped unexpectedly, he knew exactly where he was going. When Odra finished, he turned his attention back to the bridge.

"Word of advice Odra: out here - in the deep black - none of that politics shite matters. We're all out here, and all we got is the people next to us. Mine are counting on me not to drag them into shite that doesn't need to happen. Same as yours.

"I can't afford to jerk you around. I got people waiting on me; wife; kids - the whole deal. What about you Odra? You got anyone? What about the rest of ye? You got people waiting on you?

"Your band is one to talk about politics not mattering, I've heard who you are. You and Erdundre Ashann were household names back home, that's why you and his daughter haven't laid down your arms and died yet." Odra replied with a scoff.

"My marines all knew the risks when they signed up," he continued after a moment." I just wasn't expecting a maintained cruiser. I just needed to buy more time for the drive to cool, and we were close to jumping out too."

"Sounds like a tough day at the office Odra, truly does." Tzeraspnir acknowledged, though outside the door he was rubbing the temples ob the side his head. "But the fact of the matter is you didn't have the numbers or the firepower. Us kicking your arses up one end of this bucket and down the other hasn't improved matters for ya either. Face it: the fight's fucking over.

Your people are down below, getting patched up best we can manage. Let's end this Odra."

There was a long silence from the bridge as Odra pondered the options in front of him.

Ashann, meanwhile, kept an eye on her clock, curling a finger of her held-up hand as minutes slowly crept by. As her hand shot up to her communicator, finally finished waiting to give the orders to start finish the breaching of the door, there was a long sigh.

"Stand down," a muffled cry broke the silence, clearly from Odra turning to his mean. "Gods, forgive me for this," he mumbled back through the door."

"You made the right choice here Odra." Tzeraspnir called back then turned back towards the rest of the assault team. "Might want to make sure they're actually weapons down in there before we go in." He said, jerking a finger in the direction of the bridge.

After a moment of silence, Dila quietly radioed over to Ashann and Tzeraspnir.

“They stand down now,” she affirmed, “Their weapons already not drawn.”

At Dila's reply, Tzeraspnir finally seemed to relax a little. "All right people!" He declared sharply so as to get everyone's attention. When he resumed the tone struck a more cautiously optimistic note. "Let's get this door open, shall we?"

"Dila, shoot if any one of them goes for a weapon as we enter," Ashann radioed as she slowly moved towards the door. "Remind them what will happen if they try to earn a medal for valor."

"Maelamiory," the aristocrat gestured towards the Shufran, "your group is up first when that door opens. Properly disarm the marines, and lead them off the bridge for interrogation so Tzeraspnir and I can have a chat with the officers."

The EBAT* Captain took a second to draw her sidearm before the door opened under its hydraulic strength. The EVA Assault Team entered the door, following their Captain. Inside the bridge, they were met by the Bridge crew of the freighter and the Commandist marine squad. The Commandist marines had mostly laid down their weapons before the door was open, those who didn't were dropping their holster belts as the door opened.

Maelamoiry had one of her enlisted gather the weapons before ordering "I want the Captain of the Vessel and the Commisar of the Marines, I want you two to say here, our officers will be in her in a bit to question you. All enlisted marines and the bridge crew, I want you all to go with the EVA-C team to the Mess Hall."

The slow shamble of marines and mariners made their way out of the bridge, heading towards the Mess.

Merchant Vessel

Lady Ashann marched onto the bridge as the Void-Jumpers cleared it of most of the personnel. In a well-practiced display, her expression was stern and her hand rested on her sword's pommel. It was all pomp for the sake of optics, but it would take more than time for the disgraced aristocrat to lose her bearing. However, there was nothing that could veil the utter contempt she held for the black-clad commissar. She turned her gaze to the Suffran captain, who gave a look of relief once it was apparent that Ashann was a woman of her word.

"My first question is simple, Captain..." Ashann spoke clearly,

"Vicuxii," the man answered.

"Vicuxii, why is that parasite in uniform here? The marine contingent is a little small to justify the waste."

Tzeraspnir drifted near the back of the bridge as Ashann made her entrance, taking a moment to tell the marines waiting outside to go search the captain and commissar's quarters. "Thoroughly." He added.

Watching Ashann approach the captain, in a pique of paranoia the thought crossed Tzeraspnir that the two of them being in the same room was a mistake. They were both on the short list of people Dindriann most wanted dead right now, and while he doubted Dindriann was smart enough to think of setting this whole 'lost freighter' thing up to get a dupe like Odra close enough to detonate a bomb... he'd seen stranger things.

Nothing for it now though, he thought drawing up next to the commissar as Ashann addressed Captain Vicuxii. "I don't think she likes you." He muttered to Commissar Odra.

Odra simply stood, impotently seething at the aristocrat and her jester in tow.

"He commandeered our ship," Vicxuii answered. "Rumor among my crew say that some officer on a longshot mission actually found something, so they sent the Commissar and some marines to protect the data disk they kept their findings on."

He," the Captain jestured to Odra," thought that taking a civilian ship gave him better odds of making it through this stretch of space, considering his Marshal's forces are stretched thing occupying our home and word from ports claim that his frigates keep going missing.."

"That is surprisingly smart of the parasite," Ashann conceded. Turning toward's Odra, her imperious scowl etched itself deeper as she directly acknowledged the man's existence "Where is the disk, Odra, and I do not suggest you do not try my patience any further."

The Gem

It would be a few weeks of operation before the ship returned to the Gem, laden with goods to sell and with another corvette to crew for the small task force they had assembled through their operations. Then it would take a few more days to see all of the cargo offloaded through the web of fences and merchants the crew had built up over time while the ship was repaired and resupplied, but it did leave the crew with some spending money.

Waiting outside the ship was the Sonnodrik Docks, one of the many set among the Gem, eager to suck in new victims and customers alike. The brought district would not have been Ashann's first choice to make a base in, but it was nominally neutral and had the capacity to work on the Misguided Faith.

More importantly for sailors with money to spend and plenty of steam to blow off, it was lined with all sorts of entertainment. Dives and other working-class bars where the liquor was cheap and burned like a blaster bolt were never far from the bays for ships. Slightly further in the district laid an assortment of brothels, gambling dens, and even a fighting ring. Of course, accommodations could also be rented, and transit to more up-scale districts was always available for those with more discerning tastes.

Ashann, meanwhile was fixated with the disk that the fool of a Commissar had so kindly provided her during the boarding action. She couldn't crack it herself, of course, and Odra had claimed that it would erase itself if it was tampered with. Harak was good with electronics, but she was hesitant about the hardware aboard the Faith. She needed a Specialist on the Gem, and wagered it was likely that Aurellia knew one. She sighed as she tapped into the intercom, maybe their illustrious Captain could be knocked down a bit if she started with the good news.

"This is Ashann," she took on a warm tone, "I'm happy to announce that we are starting a three-day rest. You all know the rules, stay in pairs outside our district, don't cause too much trouble, and the ship gets its take for any extracurriculars you may get up to on your own. I also need Aurellia and Tzeraspnir to meet me in my office."
