Sebo eyes the merchant slyly.

"Sure, but I want a writ expressing our authority to transport your cargo. And your name, too. Seems like it will be difficult finding what belongs to you if we don't even have your name, m'lord."

The little gnome grins, flashing jagged yellow teeth.

(Roll of 10 + 2 for my stat bonus, so 12. And i'm asking for a written document of some kind that will basically state our authority to receive and transfer his cargo. Just replace "writ" with "document" lol)

(Oh ok. Gah, where would I find the stats in order to see if your roll is a pass? I'm assuming DMG?)

The DMG may have some recommendations, but you determine the check based upon how easy you think it would be. If it’s automatically a fail or success there is no need to roll. To me, something like a 5 would be easy, 10 normal, 15 intermediate, 20 challenging, 25 or 30 extremely difficult. 25 or 30 would be almost impossible without a natural 20 and/or a high modifier, so usually it seems to be somewhere between 5 and 20, and sometimes one just needs to avoid a natural one.

OOC: Depending on the intentions of the merchant. I don't see why the difficulty would be anything higher than 5.

It also happens that I have a map of the region with me at all times, in case I get lost while travelling." The merchant gives Dawson the map, since he was the one who asked. "Courtside South is only a day's journey, but I'm giving you all a week in case something happens. I can provide some mounts for you all if you choose to help me. As for the number of people needed, all three of you should be enough, but I won't say no to extra help you find along the way!" There still seems to be something off about this whole proposal, however.

Dawson nodded, considering the situation. <The proposal seems off. This is a small town. It may be a good idea to check with the town mayors office for additional information>.

Soon three additional people joined himself, the elf and the gnome around the stand. It was starting to feel packed. A lady in a blue Wizards hat, a gentleman knight, and then an orc pummelled a log next to him and the elf close to where the gnome was. That made 6 people. <50 gp divided by 6 people> he considered to himself. <Possibly spread over 7 days, that’s 1 gp 1 sp 9 bp per day per person. Enough for a modest life in that time>. Looking at the lady in a Wizard hat. <I wonder if she might know something about the magic item>.

“I’m not really sure, something about this seems…unfamiliar to me.” Asmodea spoke up, standing a little straighter and speaking for the first time. Whomever this merchant was, he wanted this item quite badly. But it didn’t seem he wanted it badly enough to reveal his true intentions. Perhaps this Corvius was in danger, or the item itself was dangerous. In any case, best to keep an eye peeled. However, she understood quite well what it was like to have unwanted eyes on you.

"I'll do it," Urtrumash said, "we can get that artifact to you before this week's end."

Urtrumash looked at the others within the group, noticing the mixed reactions to the merchant's offer.

On:
He had learned a little bit more about the gathered group, from their conversations among each other and with the merchantman. One claimed to have been a diplomat before switching to adventuring and the knight introduced himself as being from the Kingdom of David.

Elden dipped his head slightly in deference to the other man’s status.
“Nice to meet you Sir Lee. I am Elden, currently not affiliated with any one group or location. While I worked with the Fenris Rangers during the War, we parted ways after the armistice.”

Before Elden could further respond to the Knight’s comment, the Orc slammed down a log and claimed to have knowledge of the nearby woods.
“You have a point my orcish friend, the nearby woods are relatively safe. However, having one or two people along with a more intimate knowledge of the forest can be beneficial.”

Elden nodded to his fellow Elf during his last statement. Once they figured out the plan of action he’d try and pull her aside for a quick chat. In the meantime, he was more than willing to let others negotiate the finer details of the quest. When that was worked out, it was time to prepare to set out. There was one piece of information that no one seemed to yet try to gather so Elden took it upon himself to do so.

“Mr Goldenwood, who is your point of contact in Courtside South? Knowing who was supposed to send your item would greatly aid us in finding it for you?”

Off:
"Just before they went into warp, I beamed the whole kit and kaboodle into their engine room, where they'll be no tribble at all."

Dawson was now in the back. It appeared those in front now included the gnome, an elven gentleman, and the orc with the log. As if reading his mind he listened as the wizard seemed to confirm the situation being unfamiliar. While there was a bit of hesitation in Dawson, given they did not know what the purpose of the magic item was, it was nice to listen to the inquisitions occurring by the other members of what would surely be his next traveling companions.

While it would be nice to receive 75 gp instead of 50 gp now that the split had risen to 7 members, he did not feel like interrupting. Dawson took a step back and waited patiently, taking the opportunity to learn what the merchant was telling the others and allowing his body language to confirm his readiness to go onto the first phase of the journey, the mayors office.

"Ah the Rangers were excellent Allies during the War, if it wasn't for you and your Brothers in Arms myself and the Army of King David would have been vanquished. Perhaps we crossed paths during the war unknowingly? War stories can wait till we hit the road Elf Brother." The Knight reasoned before turning to the Orc. "Good Orc what vial creatures live in these wood? I have vanquished many foe in my Day but tis always best to not enter battle blind." Lee questioned the Orc an inch shorter than himself.

Two Things: About my Inactivity and Session #4

Postby YSG Hermitcraft » Sun Oct 24, 2021 12:58 pm

I need to say two things:
1. About my inactivity
Sorry for being away for so long, I have a reason why:
I'm usually away from NS on weekends, since I'm doing other things. If I'm ever away for long periods of time, check the date. Is it a weekend? If yes, it's to be expected. If not, then something happened and it might be a while.
2. Session #4
Session #4 will be delayed, as I have to catch up on everything I've missed, and also, it's the weekend. (Read above) I'll see you all tomorrow! (Monday, October 25th)

From his place standing in the back, Dawson took note of the knights attitude. It appeared they would be proceeding. “In that case” He began. “We should be off”. Dawson turned to walk towards the Mayors house.

With Dawson going the opposite direction, the rest of you start following Corvius's directions, as well as the map he provided you with. The quest has begun!

The first day of the journey, nothing out of the ordinary, just lush green forestry and nature.
Day two, there is a rustling from the bushes. (Alright, everyone. Roll for initiative)
