From: Senator Maxwell O'Halloran (senator@ohalloran.senate.gov)

To: All Republican Senators

My friends,

Just wanted to take a moment to check in with everyone and make sure we're all on the same page.

As of right now, our agenda is as follows.

[*] Pass Endless Frontier

[*]Confirm Eliza LeBlanc Wolf as Ambassador Ambassador the U.N.

[*] Pass the American Relief Act.

All other legislation from our side of the aisle will have to wait until after the ARA passes, including a second infrastructure investment bill.

I'd like you all to note that our plan is to pass the ARA as is, without further amendments. Likewise, we'll be blocking any further amendments from the Dmeocarats.

My office door is always open if anyone has anything to discuss.

Thank you,
- Max

Donal Jonsson doesn't seem to trust northwestern states like Idaho to get a grip on our meat. Our meat and poultry workers and businesses have worked far too hard to be insulted by an east coast hack or pinned down by woefully inefficient Washington bureaucracy. PASS MARKET!

But obviously, that's sadly unlikely to happen. I want to use my platform in the Senate to not just to hold the line but also to help turn the tide on the Republicans and bring about a progressive revolution. I don't think I'll be some grand colossus bringing America to a brighter dawn or anything like that, I'm simply here for the good fight we've been fighting since we were young. I'm not sure, if I'm to be pragmatic, how much we could get done without the House, but I'll do all I can, and I'll do all I can to win back the House in my position as a Senator. If nothing else, trust me on my record. I've never relented where it matters. Not once."

"That's certainly interesting." Joe responded, without much emotion. "I'm going to be honest, I don't see an ideological disagreement between us, which is reassuring."

"Now, what about your position as the Chair of the Progressive Caucus? If you're in it to win it, you won't be able to chair it anymore. And whether you win or lose, you'll still have to neglect your duties as the head of the caucus for a couple of months."

"Well, I can still lead it from the Senate. But your concerns about me having to neglect it for a few months are certainly not unfounded. I've considered that at length, and while obviously I can always still spend some time on the phone mangaing things, the core problem remains. That's why I have a deputy, [not-Katie Porter], who will help push the caucus through that time. The reason I'll stay on is, when Wisconsin ends, whether I win or lose, I will begin executing our plans for 2022, and we can all work on that together. We made big breakthroughs back in 2006 when I was chair, and I hope we can make big breakthroughs in 2022 too."

Very disappointed to see a fellow Democrat spread misinformation about the MARKET Act in front of Congress.(1/5)

Out of the 3 states usually considered the “northwest,” not a single one has a state-run meat inspection program. But Donal Jonsson’s home state of Maine does.(2/5)

So in bringing a good-looking steak from Maine compared to an allegedly tainted one from the USDA-inspected northwest, Jonsson refuted his own alleged point that meat inspected by a state is somehow worse. And proved himself to be lying in front of the United States Congress.(3/5)

Further, if Jonsson somehow bought state-inspected meat from the northwest (which he would have to go to the state to do under the current regulations), it’s logically absurd to think that he could then bring the meat to DC while still keeping it properly refrigerated.(4/5)

It only further proves how necessary the MARKET Act is when its opponents have to resort to silly props and publicity stunts to fight it, rather than debating it on its merits. The farmers of Maine and Mississippi deserve better than Jonsson and Durant’s fearmongering and obstructionism.(5/5)

Senator your state, conveniently located both North and West, has a state-inspected facility. Maybe losing that hat will free up some brain cells. #Disappointed that you fell for the Rampant Republican deregulation.

Cool. Call MT the Northwest. It doesn’t change that you either broke the regulations yourself to bring state-inspected meat from MT or ME to DC, or are lying about its source in the first place. Checkmate, buddy.

"Couple of things" Joe started, slightly startled by the words of his colleague. Despite being a progressive at heart himself, Abrahms had experience flipping seats and he knew well that flipping Florida or North Caroline in the Senate would be near impossible. "We're not flipping Florida or North Carolina, that's it. It's a waste of resources and we would do better focusing on actual, achievable goals. Now, neither Baginski, [not-Feingold], [not-Wellstone] or any other Senator ever chaired the Progressive Caucus, they served in an honorary capacity while Senators. Having worked on flipping seats myself back home in Trenton I can tell you this - for that job you need someone committed and with realistic goals. So, if you're running for Senate and you want to show you are responsible, you need to have a co-chair at the very least. I don't care who that person is, but they can't go running for an open seat within the next two years."

Now, when they get out, they have no routine, no order, no money, no support system, and no way to restart without that ten years of knowledge, so instead of trying to get back on their feet, they go back to their old habits, which means more money for prisons. We need to figure out a way to stop repeat offenders from repeating and go back on a righteous path."

“I certainly want to do a Second Step Act during my term. It’s going to be incredibly difficult though, enough people in our party think I’m a soft moderate… Wolf was a sort of… Nixon going to China on that front… in general I’ve been tossing around the idea of drastically increasing sentences for violent criminals and resources devoted to fighting them in the same bill as the reforms we are discussing. But this is probably something the pursue after midterms honestly.”

President Richardson,

I first would like to congratulate you again on your inauguration. I wanted to ask if we could chat sometime in the near future, whether over the phone or in Washington. Your call, Mr. President.

A short time after Richardson received the letter his staff reached out and scheduled a phone call with the governor. At the agreed time Richardson phoned him.

“Hello Governor? This is President Richardson, how are you doing today?”

Milwaukee, Wisconsin
February 2nd, 2021

The two hour flight from Washington to Wisconsin was a pain in the ass. Especially when she had to pull out enough cash from her ATM in order to afford the plane ticket and the return date. A small thought raced through her head, being stuck in there like her chances at re-election next year. "I can't believe I'm doing this just to spite Dairy Dan.." She chuckled affably at the thought as she de-boarded the plane, taking her small suitcase of a few personal belongings, some clothes, a small confederate flag and what she had drunkenly described going through customs (not out loud thankfully) as "just some weapons grade nuclear plutonium" that was simply her purse filled with pretzel crumbs, sticks of minty "grandma-caliber" gum and some three year old make-up kit that she either neglected to throw away out of stubbornness, nostalgia or ignorance.

Walking out of the Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, she was greeted with a far chillier air than she had been expecting. A small hand drove through the increasingly itchy dandruff heavy brown mop that adorned her head. She glanced at her arms to notice a series of goosebumps. She shivered shortly after the realization. God damn it to hell. Why couldn't god have just moved Wisconsin down a few degrees south to the equator. Sure, it would've been a massively disruptive event for a large hand to push an entire state, but she was cold DAMNIT!

Hailing a yellowish-greenish looking Taxi that she had arranged to pick her up from the airport (at the criminally high price of 115 per person. She knew she shouldn't've checked the box on the application that made her sexual identity as a bag of luggage, just to make fun of those weird men who became women suddenly. Back in her day, they had a place for that. It was the guillotine, or maybe that was for sodomy? She couldn't say for sure, but she knew it wasn't legal. She glanced down at her phone to brush up on the Wisconsin Senate Race that was already unfolding. Reading the article out loud to herself in the comfort of the only slightly soiled back seat of the Sprite colored (and sponsored, apparently) Ford cab, she grimaced.

"Y'all mean that us G O P fellers have gots a choice between a goddamned communist that wants the ARA to pass n' is a former bizeness man, competin' 'gainst a feller that's more to my likin. This here, Chris feller. But, I don't really see him havin' as much as what a crazy communist has in my own district, chance in winnin' wise."

She pondered the political calculations in her head. On one hand, openly spitting at the face of her perceived 'revolutionary socalist bastards' of Thomas (and by a far lesser extent, Whip Dumbo from Montana) did make the bee's turn into her knees. But, on the other hand, she'd rather not fuel the man so much that he might become a spoiler that could end up having the elephant businessman win by a plurality come the primary. Wait? was there even a GOP primary.. She briefly turned the physical Wall Street Journal newspaper about the race she had brought with her on the plane for consultation. While it may seem odd that someone in 2021 was still actively getting her information from a Newspaper, considering her livelihood was made in the newspaper prior to her joining the MS state senate and as a member of the House, her old-fashioned decison actually makes more sense with that context put forth.

For Maxine, reading a newspaper was almost as fun as shooting a gun at a paper cut out of Speaker Volker. Almost as fun, a close second actually. She mused through the paper at hand and made sure to highlight the section at the bottom with a trusty yellowish orange sharpie.

'More candidates are expected to jump in for the short primary season and the question of who the nominee will be is far from decided.'

She needed to play her cards right. If she swung blindly on twitter, then her careful calculation would be cast out the window. While not a real fan of the ARA, she at least tried a more 'reasonable' proposal than the 'cash throwing' train-wreck in motion that the GOP was willing to bring out from the station. She wasn't expecting a vote on her bill any-time soon (lest the speaker get a light-bulb and try to sink her bill without her being present in the Capitol for anything). It wasn't like she had much going on for Mississippians at the moment, so she felt justified in taking a brief break, letting hapless Norrington deal with the mobs of angry reporters (and constituents) that would try to tear him limb from limb politically. Hell, so long as it wasn't her neck on the chopping block, she was fine with what she was going to do.

The Taxi-cab came to a halt outside a home. She glanced at her phone and noticed a private Twitter DM from Congressman Boyd.

Taking a picture outside, she hastily replied in a Twitter DM to Congressman Boyd:

@HeartlandDemocrat
I think now is a good time to meet rn. Just arrived about 45 min ago in WI. Nice state btw. We'll talk about the upcoming senate race soon enough. See you then m8. Oh, and you left your blinds open, nice piano.

A short time after Richardson received the letter his staff reached out and scheduled a phone call with the governor. At the agreed time Richardson phoned him.

“Hello Governor? This is President Richardson, how are you doing today?”

Doherty placed his coffee down on his desk, and picked up the phone.

"Hello, Mr. President. It's a pleasure to speak with you." He said, a bit awkwardly. He never really talked with Former President Wolf, and before that - he was personal friends of (Obama) and (Bush). Richardson, however, was different.
