“Maybe some on the left will think that I don’t meet their expectations and standards, they could opt to stay home, suggest the same to their friends. And of course there’s the whole ‘Black woman running for statewide office in a predominantly white, Midwestern state’ aspect that could piss off the wrong kind of voter. And of course, while I have experience holding statewide office and running for statewide office, the office I hold isn’t as visible as others, and it certainly has its own skeletons and imperfections that could hurt my chances, especially if a headline grabbing case or issue arose within the month. When my office screws up, or when I screw up, those impacts are more directly tied to me. If a Member of Congress doesn’t vote the ‘right’ way, they have more room to distance themselves from the consequences or anger, they can bring in pork for their district to help voters ‘overlook’ their less desirable votes, more leg room. So, while I have potential and experience running for statewide office, I am also liable to collateral damage, I’m certainly not invulnerable or omniscient.”
